Zukors. An abandoned storefront in Stockton, California.

Zukors was a very classy jewelry store at one time in Stockton, California. This jewelry store manufactured their own jewelry boxes. The building was a Neoclassical architecture styled building with great details such as terrazzo flooring and stucco bricks. Zukors is now an abandoned store. Stockton has so many original storefronts that have been untouched and are just abandoned.

Zukors is located at 310 West Main Street, Stockton, California, US 95202.

History of Smith Apartments in Benton Harbor, Michigan.

The Smith Apartments was the first apartment building of its type to be built in the city of Benton Harbor, Michigan. This brick apartment building was built in 1923. Smith Apartments were constructed using iron, brick, and stone. Contractor E.L. Smith was the person who built these apartments. Smith Apartments contained six units equipped with sun parlors, telephone service, private store rooms, laundries, and other conveniences. These apartments were the first of its kind to have telephone service. The lot size was over 6,500 square feet. (Ref: https://newspaperarchive.com/benton-harbor-news-palladium-jun-25-1930-p-4/)

By 1940, Smith Apartments were equipped with steam heating, 8 bedrooms, and 4 full bathrooms. Each unit had 3 different rooms. Some units had 4 rooms.

The exact year of when the Smith Apartments became abandoned is clearly unknown. What is known is that Zillow.com reported the Smith Apartments were sold for $35,000 in September 2005. Date of sale was 09/22/2005. (Ref: https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/275-High-St-Benton-Harbor-MI-49022/120525586_zpid/)

Today Smith Apartments are abandoned and boarded up. Not many apartment buildings of this type exist in the city anymore. Of course not anyone can afford to buy this building. The continuing government shutdown highlights the fact that most Americans have little to no savings. The address for Smith Apartments is 275 High Street, Benton Harbor, Michigan, US 49022.

History of Riverside Casting Plant in Benton Harbor, Michigan explored.

Riverside Casting Plant was built as a casting plant on the outskirts of Benton Harbor, Michigan in 1921. Although the address is listed as being located in Benton Harbor, the Riverside Casting Plant was actually located inside the township of Benton Harbor northeast of town. A reservoir was built on the rear end of the property.

Riverside Casting Plant produced artillery shells during World War II. Production of artillery shells started in in December 8, 1941 after the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Production of artillery shells ceased in 1945 after World War II had ended. (Ref: http://www.uer.ca/locations/show.asp?locid=24189)

Herald-Palladium reported that Auto Specialties Manufacturing made a decision to close Riverside Casting Plant on August 1, 1980. 210 jobs were lost after Auto Specialties Manufacturing made the decision to close Riverside Casting Plant. Many people were laid off. The closure happened because of the 1978 recession. It was an “already depressed economy”. Production was moved to the St. Joseph casting center in St. Joseph, Michigan after closure. (Ref: Herald-Palladium, Page 3, Wednesday, June 18, 1980)

Their equipment remained on the property for taxing purposes. Paperwork was left behind all on the floor. The main building remained extant despite the fact all of the other buildings were demolished. A couple of garages escaped demolition. (Ref: https://www.newspapers.com/newspage/365483074/)

Benton Township Supervisor James Benson cited a sharp reduction in light truck and car production. This was a result from the 1978 recession in the United States. However the Riverside Casting Plant was not the largest employer in the township. Clark Equipment Co. Construction - Machinery Division and Whirlpool Corp were the larger employers of the area. (Ref: Herald-Palladium, Benson Says Loss Of Hardship To People, Wednesday, June 18, 1980)

Today the Riverside Casting Plant is abandoned and remains so. Riverside Casting Plant is an example of industrial archaeology of what is now just ruins.

Riverside Casting Plant was located on 2201 Riverside Road, Benton Harbor, Michigan, US 49022.

History of Flint Second Church explored.

Flint Second Church facing Chavez Drive.Flint Second Church is one of the many forgotten churches of Flint, Michigan that has been long forgotten. The history of this church has not been very well preserved. Flint Second Church also went under the name of Roosevelt Avenue Free Methodist Church and Roosevelt Free Methodist Church as both churches had shared the same property.

This church was established at the corner of Roosevelt Avenue and Chavez Drive near Willow Street sometime possibly during the 1920s. The church was established by free thinking Methodists in Flint. There was a lack of Methodist churches in the area at that time. Roosevelt Free Methodist Church built on the same property as Roosevelt Free Methodist Church only this church building faced Chavez Drive.

Flint Second Church was the first name for this church before becoming Roosevelt Free Methodist Church. Their addresses were 1233 Roosevelt Avenue and 1237 Roosevelt Avenue. History of Hazelton School in Flint, Michigan explored.

Hazelton School is one of the forgotten schools of Flint, Michigan. Only so much history of this school has been preserved both online and offline.

Hazelton School bka Hazelton Elementary School was established in 1843 as a log cabin in what was the precursor to Flint Community School District called Union Free School District. This school would operate in a single story log cabin until 1867.

In 1867, the log cabin was replaced with a 3-story brick building which included a basement, blacktop, and soccer field. Renovations were made in 1877. The school became a 3-room building. Despite being 3 stories tall, the building was only a 3-room building.

Hazelton School was named after George Hazelton. George Hazelton was a business person and educator. He had strong and firm beliefs in education.

Hazelton School would receive more modifications, alterations, and renovations as the school was torn down in 1903 with a more modern building equipped with amenities. Ramps for the physically handicapped were installed as well. Clark & Munger were the architects responsible for designing Hazelton School. The school building had terrazzo floors and doors made out of oak. The oak woodwork was the most notable feature throughout the entire school building. (Ref: https://books.google.com/books?id=xpwhAQAAMAAJ&pg=RA2-PA10&lpg=RA2-PA10&dq="hazelton+school"+flint&source=bl&ots=mRchZegQHa&sig=ACfU3U0I6ubiwfiVYDjWlAXyXrIhoJlL-w&hl=en&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwir1NzU_ODkAhVOUK0KHSqPAAwQ6AEwEnoECAgQAQ#v=onepage&q="hazelton school" flint&f=false)
Clark & Munger were the architects for Hazelton School.

Hazelton School was largely improved through the efforts of George Hazelton in 1904. It was through his untiring perseverance that the school received adequate funding. He had strong and firm beliefs in education. (Ref: https://quod.lib.umich.edu/m/micounty/bad0918.0001.001?rgn=main;view=fulltext)
Hazelton School in 1911.

By 1916, Hazelton School had increased to 10 rooms due to the phenomenal growth of Flint. During the 1916-1917 school year, Hazelton School had an addition built to accommodate the school as conditions were already growing overcrowded in the main building. This addition was built with a seating capacity of 280 at a cost of $58,000 dollars. (Ref: https://quod.lib.umich.edu/m/micounty/ARX8251.0001.001/97?rgn=full+text;view=image;q1=roosevelt)

Hazelton School would not last forever. This school was one of the many schools in Flint that would be later closed down and demolished. Hazelton School was no exception to this case. Hazelton School was leveled in 1966 for a parking lot. (Ref: Flint Journal, Looking Back, March 28, 2004)

Hazelton School was located at West Second Street (West 2nd Street) & Hazelton Street, Flint, Michigan, US 48502.

History of Roosevelt Elementary School in Flint, Michigan explored and explained.

Roosevelt Elementary School (Roosevelt School) is one of the many forgotten schools of Flint, Michigan of which only a few people seem to know about. The history of this school has not been preserved very well and seems to have been long forgotten.

Roosevelt Elementary School aka Roosevelt School was established and constructed near Stewart Avenue and Dort Highway (I 475) inside the St. John neighborhood in 1924 by the Flint Community School District. Roosevelt School was built with a seating capacity of 810 at a cost of $284,000 dollars. Construction started in summer of 1924. The time period for construction of this school lapsed over 2 years. (Ref: https://quod.lib.umich.edu/m/micounty/arx8251.0001.001/97?page=root;size=100;view=image, Title: An account of Flint and Genesee County from their organization, William V. Smith, Collection: Michigan County Histories and Atlases)

General Electric was awarded a contract for electrical wiring installation of Roosevelt School in 1924 for several thousands of dollars. General Electric helped build foundations to support the brick walls and concrete foundation. They also helped erect the basement. (Ref: Battle Creek Enquirer, Page 13, Friday, July 11, 1924)

Oliver Roland organized a team and the youth sports activities at Roosevelt Elementary School in 1928. He was a Hi-Y leader. It was during this time he served as sports director and was also responsible for the sports teams at Roosevelt School during much of the 20th century. (Ref: http://aashof.org/1986/12/11/oliver-twist-roland/)

Lee Watson was a community school director at Roosevelt Elementary School for 5 years. He was replaced shortly after 5 years. (Ref: Flint Journal, Lee Watson dies, August 21, 2001)

Buick assisted in development of a large park area for community recreational purposes at Roosevelt School through the youth bureau of Flint. Buick donated some of their land to Flint Community School District for a park during that time. (Ref: https://www.mott.org/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/FoundationForLiving1963.pdf)

Roosevelt School was an elementary school only. Not a middle school or a junior high school as many would have you believe. After students graduated from Roosevelt School, they would attend Emerson Junior High School aka Emerson Jr. High School.

By 1954, Roosevelt School had integrated enrollment despite being located in a majority-black neighborhood. The main building of Roosevelt School had a 95% percent rate of black enrollment. This was because the school board drew attendance boundaries that resulted in a shift of racial population changes.(Ref: Demolition Means Progress:Race, Class, and the Deconstruction of the American Dream in Flint, Michigan, Andrew R. Highsmith, 2009)

The school board‘s plan assigned approximately 600 students to the main school building. The 1954 plan effectively split the enrollment at Roosevelt School along both racial and geographic lines, establishing separate sites for the white and black students of a single school. (Ref: https://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/handle/2027.42/62230/ahighsmi_1.pdf)

However Roosevelt Elementary School would be one of the many schools in Flint that would be demolished for being located in the right of way of I 475.

Roosevelt Elementary School closed in 1976 due to the construction of I 475. Construction of I 475 through the St. John neighborhood displaced Roosevelt School. 12 vacant parcels next to the school were cleared to make way for I 475. Replacement of the Roosevelt School with compensation was paid by the Michigan Department of State Highways and Transportation as stated in an agreement with Flint Community School District. (Ref: I-475 construction and Pierson Road reconstruction, Flint, Corridor and alignment statement : environmental impact statement)

1978 is when Roosevelt Elementary School was demolished. A 300 right-of-way line was paved over where Roosevelt Elementary School once stood. Today nothing remains of Roosevelt Elementary School. The parking lot has been paved over. (Ref: https://babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/ssd?id=ien.35556030793533;seq=106)

Roosevelt Elementary School was located at 1401 East Stewart Avenue, Flint, Michigan, US 48505.

Sonny Fortune - In Waves Of Dreams is an album which uses a mixture of soul and jazz music. The solos on this album are worthwhile to listen to. Sonny Fortune is a virtuoso on the flute. He plays the flute on two of the five songs off of this album. You can feel warmth and power as you listen to the jazz music from this album. In all honesty, this album is one of the most underrated and overlooked jazz albums.

In the sheet music for In Waves Of Dreams, a handful of beamed eighth notes and sixteenth notes were used. Not too many single notes were used as most notes were grouped on a tenuto. An eighth rest is used on the 5th time signature. This denotes a period of silence. A whole note/semibreve (º) is used at the beginning of 6th time signature which is located next to a whole rest. No sharp signs (#) were used though as the pitch was perfect. The soprano sax uses a bass clef.

Sonny used many instruments in layers on the song Revelation. However the song sounds dated for a song that was recorded in the mid-70s.

Thoughts uses a mellow tuned double bass viola to accommodate the jazz sound. The tempo is not too upbeat but is mid tempo instead. Angel Allende puts down some nice work on the congas. Thoughts uses a 7|4 time signature. Not many songs use the tricky 7|4 time signature.

I rate this album 4/5****.

The S.O.S. Band’s - Sands of Time album offers nothing but the best in music. Sultry love songs and soulful pop ballads. The legendary production team by Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis produced nearly half of this S.O.S. Band album. With a legendary production team such as Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, you know the album is going to have wonderful songs and great ballads.

On The Rise is about a love going stronger in a relationship. Gene Dozier produced On The Rise for The S.O.S. Band.

Verse 1 makes things no secret with the fact that love is growing stronger inside a relationship. All of Verse 1 is about moving up.

[Verse 1]
Everyday I can tell our love is growing stronger
My blood runs hot
When I think of what we've got
And it's because we care for each other
That the bad times have passed us by
We're on the rise
Can't you tell?
We're moving up to love
Can't you tell?
We're moving up

Everyday is to tell that love is growing stronger. That is because both people care for each other. The bad times have passed by. Can't you tell? They’re on the rise. They are moving up to love.

Verse 2 gives a detailed description of a love journey.

[Verse 2]
Since the day we began
On our love journey
We've seen love come
And we've seen love go
We've come a long way

Since the day they began on their love journey, they both have seen love go and come. Love came and went. Only to find they’re still on the rise. Can't you tell that they are moving up to love? They are going to keep on moving throughout life. Moving up to love. They’re never gonna give up.

They’re on their way to a love with no ending and to live a life of purpose and meaning. A love with no ending is very much similar to living a life of purpose and meaning.

Sands of Time was one of their better songs which produced by the legendary production team by Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis. Honestly this is one of their most overlooked songs produced by them. Abdul Ra'oof and Mary Davis did a wonderful job singing on the chorus.

Hours pass. The weeks turn into months. Nothing can change time as time moves forward. We are bound by the sands of time. The song is about the symbol of love. Love can be everlasting.

The lyrics shown here are an example of how love can be everlasting. This will give you an idea.

Still I watch the hourglass
Wondering when I'll see you
Longing for the person I love

Mary Davis will cure your troubles with her vocals on the song Even When You Sleep as she soothes you with her caress. Even when you sleep you’ll know that Mary is there to hug and keep you warm. Shimmering thoughts of joy run through your head. The song is a relaxing R&B/soul tune. You can feel the soothing melody of this song.

The lyrics to the chorus display dreamy imagery. Read some of the lyrics below to grasp a better understanding.:

[Chorus: Mary Davis]
Even when you sleep
You’ll know that I am there
To hug and keep you warm
And soothe you while you’re dreaming
A twinkle in your mind
Shimmering thoughts of joy
Sweet dreams, my love
Until you’re awake again

Verse 2 explains a brief summary of the sadness of being lonely.

[Verse 2: Mary Davis]
Time is loneliness
When you're not around
But I continue turning the hourglass

Mary will do anything to please her man. She’ll do the best she can. This is explained in a non-discreet manner throughout the song.

By believing in yourself you can make almost anything you ever want come true. That is what is explained during the bridge.

[Bridge: Abdul Ra'oof + Mary Davis]
Thought time had run out
I almost lost hope
(No, don't)
It's hard to keep the faith
Oh, but if you believe
You can make almost anything
You ever want come true

The S.O.S. Band offers nothing but the best in music on the song Nothing But The Best. Nothing But The Best is a smooth love ballad with a pop flair. It's no secret that Nothing But The Best is a love song.

I rate this album 5/5*****!

Krushin MC's ‎– Coming Down Hard is a product of early Lansing hip hop and rap. Which in turn predates Simken Heights, Cap One, True Hustlers, Brainwater, and Bad Mind. Coming Down Hard was released as a vinyl single on Icon Records and Macola in 1986.

Coming Down Hard is a snare ridden song with laced with electro synths and old school beats. A couple of looped samples are used on this song. Coming Down Hard is an example of electro rap from the 80s. Jam It Slow has some nice beats. The song uses an incorporated mixture of electronic music and rap. Jam It Slow is similar to a King Sun song since it was released in the 80s.

I rate this single 4/5****.

Gino Washington ‎– Doing The Pop Corn is a soulful record that is a long forgotten classic with the many soul singles already out there. This rare vintage soul record is perfect for the dance floor. Doing The Pop Corn is an upbeat soul song considered to be a dance floor shaker. A touch of funk is used on Doing The Pop Corn hence the guitars and horn selection. Doing The Pop Corn is similar to his other song Do You Have That Soul due to the upbeat nature and tempo. What Can A Man Do is a sad mournful love song about what can a man do to please his woman. What can a man do when love walks away?

I rate this single 5/5*****!

Mixerr Album Reviews #1,865

KSJ ‎– Hard To Stop is a four track EP not too long of a single. The beats are fresh and the lyrics are dope. However the single is nothing too special being that everything is short. Hard To Stop is a single that got overlooked in the beginning stages of Detroit hip hop/rap being that this single was released on vinyl in 1989. KSJ is none other than the K-Sone who dropped the underground classic 601 album on Bryant Records. Yes, the same K-Stone from Detroit, Michigan.

KSJ explains why he’s so hard to stop lyrically on Hard To Stop. Never underestimate K-Stone when he takes a stand with a microphone in his hand. He is getting bread on the table. He is raising hell with his lyrics on this song of his.

Bass Head is an ode to bass music hence the heavy bass. Bass Head is similar to those 80s anti-drug songs you would hear in rap, eletronic, dance, and pop. A lot of anti-drug songs came out back then. Bass is not something you sniff, shoot, or roll. Addiction is fine as long as you’re not on the drugs. KSJ has an addiction the bass sound that comes from subwoofers. It’s like a massage when the beats collide. It’s a smooth jam. So turn up the sound!

Hala-Hala has those boomin’ old school beats that hip hop heads will truly enjoy. It’s a super dope jam. So turn up the speakers and listen!

I rate this EP 3/5***.

Smiley ‎– Keepin' It Clean is an EP where Detroit female rapper Smiley keeps things clean. This is good for the kids. So no worries parents. There are only clean lyrics on this EP. The EP has that old school Detroit hip hop/rap sound. There are 4 songs on this EP. Keepin' It Clean was released on cassette by Bryant Records in 1990. Smiley was Detroit’s first female rapper to make a national impact for the city. Not too many people know about her. She was the first female rapper from Detroit to receive a gold plaque.

Keepin' It Clean was written by Smiley and produced by Duncan Hines in 1989. The song samples The Jackson 5 - I Want You Back.

Smiley stays away from the rumors. She is not easily skeezed as she is the greatest female emcee from Detroit. The majority rules and she rules the majority.  Never git punched out or blasted by a female. She is living kind of dandy. She is constantly on the go as she is on the road often. Smiley is a self-employed MC. She gets paid by the way she dances and raps. She is keeping hers raps clean. That is what she means by keeping it clean.

Smiley had a degree in mass communication by age 19. By then she was an independent woman. She had no excuses for anything. So she supports herself. She is in it and down with it for the profit.

Inside My Thoughts has that old school Detroit hip hop with the electro synths, bass, and thin beats. Smiley shares with us what’s on her mind during the song Inside My Thoughts. Inside My Thoughts was was written by Smiley and produced by Duncan Hines in 1989.

Smiley is at the age where she wants to go further. Her ability to flow makes her wonder. Is she musically demented? What is the reason for her musical existence? She applies herself in her writing skills. It’s poetic language far beyond the known level. She speaks her mind and delivers her thoughts in her songs.

Take a dictionary and explore for some words. A couple of sheets of paper and a ballpoint pen. She begins to unravel her thoughts. Negative things are what she blacks out of her mind. Smiley is destined to be better for longevity.

Peanuts is a song that can only be found on this cassette and nowhere else. The song was never issued on CD or vinyl. This song is not any of her other albums.

I rate this EP 5/5*****!!

K-Stony Jamm - Motown/K-Jamm is a long forgotten classic but short K-Stone vinyl single from 1988. K-Stone came hard with his raps back in the 80s and 90s. K-Stone must have been highly influenced by LL Cool J when he recorded this whole single. The single has an East Coast rap feel and vibe. You will love the old school beats and vinyl cuts.

Motown is a song which pays homage and tribute to Motown Records legends. K-Stone pays homage and tribute to successful singers/groups from Detroit such as Smokey Robinson, The Miracles, Diana Ross, The Supremes, Aretha Franklin, The Temptations, The Four Tops, Anita Baker, and The Whiners. Now all of those mentioned are great singers. But the most successful rappers in Detroit are K-Stone, Awesome Dre, and Smiley. K-Stone must have been influenced by LL Cool J when he recorded the song Motown. This was an anthem dedicated to everyone who was reppin' the city.

Never underestimate K-Stone when he takes a stand with a microphone in his hand. He is getting bread on the table. He is raising hell with his lyrics. Detroit is the place he calls his home. Here comes K-Stone!

He is cooling out downtown with babes on his jock. The money is his. He had a recording contract back in the late 80s with Ren-Sin City Records. That is what the lyrics “The money is mine/All I did was sign my name on the dotted line” All you punk DJ’s keep your mouth shut. K-Stone was made to rap and never sing.

K-Jamm is a lyrical jam K-Stone wrote himself in 1988. K-Stone was highly influenced by LL Cool J when he recorded this song. The song uses a hodgepodge of various samples.

I rate this single 4/5****!

This is Michael Mixerr. I will review Cherokee Tribe -  Cherokee Stomp Dance.

The Cherokee Stomp Dance album was an album composed by the Cherokee Tribe of Oklahoma State in 1993. Cherokee Stomp Dance was released as a cassette on Litefoot’s Red Vinyl Records label from Oklahoma. Cherokee Stomp Dance is a collection of songs, chants, hymns, rhythms, tribal dances, and percussion ensembles performed by the Cherokee Tribe. Native American music at its finest. Native American Indian music is quite soothing and soulful.

The catalog code for the cassette is RVR 0968. If your copy of this cassette does not have the following catalog code, then your copy is probably a bootleg, a misprint, or counterfeit. There is a high possibility your copy is a bootleg if the catalog code for the cassette does not appear as RVR 0968.

On the J-card of the cassette inlay is a message from Tommy Wildcat stating the following:

“This tape is dedicated to our Cherokee people who recognize the need to teach and enlighten our children with tradition so that our ways remain alive and are never forgotten. - Tommy Wildcat”

I rate this album, Cherokee Stomp Dance, 5/5*****!!

The I-Cue ‎– Derelicts Of Jazz EP uses a mix of jazz and hip hop creating a jazz hop fusion. Most of the songs on this EP use thick SP-1200 beats. New Breed never fails to disappoint when it comes to jazz hop. I-Cue is known for using jazz hop on many of his instrumental songs whether it be singles or EPs. I-Cue released this EP as a 12” vinyl on the New Breed label in 1996.

Maxin' And Relaxin' uses thick snares and kicks for the percussion set. A mixture of jazz and hip hop is used hence the looped trumpet sample, thick snares, kicks, and low upright bass. The looped trumpet sample, low upright bass, cymbal kit, and thick snares are what represent the jazz portion of Maxin' And Relaxin’.

Ill Style is another fine example of jazz hop where jazz and hip hop are blended in together as one big musical incorporation. I-Cue used SP-1200 beats Ill Style. The whole song is an instrumental with a hip hop-tinged drum set. The beats are considered by jazz hop heads to be truly timeless. There is some real dopeness here on this song. Ill Style samples breakbeats from Carlos Bess - Funky Drummer breakbeat series.

Ready To Flip uses medium bass from upright bass strings over a jazz sample. Piano samples can be heard throughout various parts of this I-Cue song. The song uses thick beats and bass.

I rate this EP 4/5****!!

Connoisseurs Of Groove ‎– Reap And Destroy is an example of early Flint hip hop and rap. This was probably the first hip hop/rap album out of Flint, Michigan! This was way before MC Breed, The Dayton Family, Top Authority, and Jake The Flake.

The album is filled with everything hip hop heads will enjoy. Heavy turntableism, loud heavy pounding beats, electro synths, and phat bass. You can tell the group put in a lot of work put with production due to the use in multiple layers of instrumentation The number of instrumental layers used in their songs is amazing. 2 layers of instrumentation for percussion and 4 layers of instrumentation for keyboards.

This album was released on vinyl only in 1987 on the Flint City Fresh label. Bernard Terry engineered the whole album at Silver Sun Studios. L. N. White served as executive producer. Connoisseurs Of Groove consists of 4 rappers which are Fresh Kid, Master Emcee, Doc Beat, and Jay.

Reap And Destroy serves as an introduction to the album telling who Connoisseurs Of Groove are. As the liner notes read, “The Connoisseurs of Groove is a group of young men from Flint, Michigan, who insist that the Midwest is the best when it comes to rap music.” Connoisseurs Of Groove seek out to reap and destroy any of those who oppose through their rap lyrics. They cold crush emcees using their incredible lyrics. In rap music, it’s about who’s crew is the best and who is the better rapper.

Things start to rumble as Connoisseurs of Groove introduce to us who they are. Down thought the years as the properties were told. A crew came out that was skilled and groomed by the masters. They would come into the rap industry. And throughout def words they shall deploy. There’s no place to hide as Connoisseurs of Groove have come to reap and destroy.

Have you ever heard MC’s so raw? That is what Connoisseurs of Groove are. They have potential with their credentials. They are supreme. They are kinetically inclined and have visual rhymes meaning that their rhymes use such vivid imagery. So duck! Connoisseurs of Groove are coming fast! Their legions of lyrics are coming tight as a beast. Not a bitch. Surely they will raise hell with their lyrics.

The song uses a bit of rock influence hence the guitar. Most hip hop and rap songs from the 1980s sampled rock guitar riffs. Heavy turntableism throughout different parts of this songs. The song uses old school beats.

Def Words uses dope and def sounds. Heavy turntableism, loud kick drum beats, and phat bass. The song uses old school beats. Def Words is one of the highlight tracks which uses multiple layers of instrumentation.

You can feel the beats as you listen to their lyrics. Def words are what you hear. Connoisseurs Of Groove is always on the go due to their def sounds and words.

Def Words uses samples from Hashim - Al-Naafiysh (The Soul) (A-Side) and The Fearless Four - Rockin’ It. Connoisseurs Of Groove never fail to disappoint when it comes to choosing creative samples for their music selection. Hip hop and rap nearly always uses samples. 80s rap more than anything did that.

Jay's Beat uses a hodgepodge of old school beats and samples. The bass explodes with rhythm and force. The rhyme is ignited by the sound of a voice. You’ve never heard of a rap group so fierce when it came to Connoisseurs Of Groove.

The song uses 80s electro synths over low bass. The Connoisseurs Of Groove are suppressing all beats that you thought were hard. Their beats are darker than Darth Vader.

Stone Break is similar to both Jay's Beat, To The Beat, and Rock the Lynn in terms of sound and beats. Of course some of the beats used for the songs on this album are recycled. Stone Break is one of the more slower songs which slows down the album and calms down the mood for this album. It’s some slow big beat type of shit here.

The thick heavy beats are what really stand out the most and are considered the highlight for this song. 80s rap can’t go without heavy beats. The song uses a bit of rock influence also.

Friends (Watch Who You Call Friend) is the Flint, Michigan answer to Whodini - Friends. Their take on the song is much slower than Whodini’s using a slower tempo. The song serves as a cautionary tale telling us we better know who our friends are and watch what type of person we call a friend.

The beat used on Rock the Lynn is similar to Reap and Destroy. That is no coincidence given that both songs were recorded in the same studio session. Rock the Lynn uses some amazing beatbox skills! All 4 rappers use fast complex rapping skills on this song of theirs. Overall Rock The Lynn is a dope fast paced rap song.

Free-Base City is an example of early Flint hip hop and rap. This was probably the first rap single out of Flint, Michigan! L. N. White produced Free-Base City in 1986. This song has got some faster raps than Reap and Destroy.

Free-Base City is an anti-drum rap song which in turn is based off the life of a cocaine addict where the cocaine user turns into a cocaine abuser. Free-Base City also serves as a cautionary tale on why to not use cocaine and the effects using cocaine. The dangers of using cocaine are discussed too. Cocaine. You ought to leave it alone. Raw cocaine from an 8 ball can be highly addictive. Cocaine if it’s raw is highly addictive.

Now Flint was turning into cocaine central back when this song was written and produced. 1986 is the year when cocaine was becoming big in Flint. Cocaine hit Flint hard.

The 1987 version of Free-Base City is different from the 1986 version of Free-Base City. The 1986 version is longer than the album version. This version here is the album version which is shorter than than the 1986 version which issued on a 12” vinyl single.

To The Beat is similar to Jay’s Beat as the song uses beats from that song. Some of the beats are slow. It’s some slow big beat type of shit here.

I rate this album, 5/5*****!

Mixerr Album Reviews #1,859

BOS - Growth And Development is an album that uses a balance of positivity and negativity. Most of this album promotes positivity of growth and development in songs such as Safe Sex, Hip Hop Heavensent, and Growth And Development. BOS uses a mixture of conscious rap and hip hop on this album. BOS - Growth And Development is a forgotten EP in Cleveland rap. This rap duo from Cleveland, Ohio never fails to disappoint. For those who did not know, BOS is Brothers of Struggle.

The thing I like about the back credits is the “Unthorized duplication is a violation of applicable laws.” label. BOS used their own version which reads “Unauthorized duplication will get you beat down!” You don’t get stuff like that anymore. Gotta love 90s rap.

Growth And Development is a song about keeping your mind focused. The song promotes positivity inside growth and development. Put your head up to the sky. Keep your mind. You must stay focused and maintain. Nowadays there’s too much shit in the game.

Growth And Development samples Zapp - More Bounce To The Ounce and Zapp - Funky Bounce. The whole song was heavily influenced by the sounds of funk.

Safe Sex is and ode to safe sex. The explanation for the title of this song needs no further description. Like Keith, you’ll sweat. BOS will give your pussy a big ass stretch it won’t forget. They are swift and slow in the sack. They are stiff as a dildo. You better have a couple of rubbers.

You put a rubber on your dick to prevent sexually transmitted diseases from entering in your body. Unprotected sex will have you ending up in a casket eventually. Sexually transmitted diseases and death. That is the negative side of sexuality. BOS promotes wearing condoms.

Twisted Mind uses SP1200 produced beats over a bit crushed yet smooth and subtle TKO sample. The pace is fairly slow tempo. References to slavery are mentioned throughout the duration of this song.

The song is about a young black brother in his freshman year of high school. Things are changing for the worst for this young black brother. His vocabulary changed from cuss words to street slang. Neighborhood friends are now an organized street gang. He is already rebelling and getting himself into all sorts of trouble. His grades have dropped all because of teenage rebellion. To him, school is a big waste of time. So he quit school.

This young black brother is in rival gang territory getting shot at and chased. A strong armed robbery doesn’t last long or pay enough as people in his neighborhood have it financially tough. Someone called the gang unit on him and he did an 18 month sentence. As long as his pockets get fatter, it don’t matter. He suffers a disease called the twisted mind of a native son.

Although he is no longer a juvenile, there is no change in priorities. His goal is to dodge authority. His outlook on life is a game of hangman. Served a sucker a half of bird. Now he’s got it going on. Young boys are on the corner grinding double ups. This young brother gets locked up again as history is repetitive.

Hip Hop Heavensent uses more of a hip hop sound than rap. BOS gets on the lyrical tip.

Backstreets is a gangsta rap song which is similar to Twisted Mind. The song is dedicated to the GD’s (Gangsta Disciples fka Growth and Development). Backstreets explains how the back roads of Cleveland, Ohio really are. The song explains daily life in inner city Cleveland as well.

I rate this album 4/5****.

Axual Facts - Axual Facts was the very first album from now deceased rapper Axual Facts which was recorded from 2003 to 2005. The album was supposed to be released in 2005 but never was for whatever the reason(s) may be. Axual Facts was pressed up on CD-r by Small But Mighty Records in 2005 and only a few people have this album.

The album was produced by the Small But Mighty Records camp. Chewboogie, Moodswang, Benji, and Snapalini were the producers for this album. Chewboogie, Benji, and Moodswang were the hottest producers in the city of Flint, Michigan at that time. Benji was a monster on them beats and so was Moodswang.

Axual Facts is one of many unreleased projects that was and recorded at Small But Mighty Records back in the day. Specifically in their prime during the 2000s. The album was not finished yet. So as a result, a promo CD-r was issued to radio stations in/around Flint. Kettering Radio played some of his songs. The songs were The Plain, YEAH, He Is So, Make Me Floss, and Nationwide.

Axual Facts put in work when he was gracing the mic with his lyrics.

I rate this album 4/5****.

Homes in Fletcher neighborhood of Beaumont, Texas being raised above ground.

After several incidents of flooding, a handful of homes in the Fletcher neighborhood of Beaumont, Texas are being raised above ground. Home owners decided enough was enough after several occasions and incidents of flooding. They put their homes on stilts as people in New Orleans, Louisiana and Hawaii have. The flooding comes from nearby Neches River.

A home located at 430 Manning Street is a prime example of a home raised above ground. The interior of this single family home has been stripped down to the frame and was raised above ground in 2013. Now the house is held on a pier foundation type. This is to prevent water damage during flooding. The owner decided enough was enough. A decision was made by Beaumont City Council to demolish and/or either raise them. (Ref: https://www.trulia.com/p/tx/beaumont/430-manning-st-beaumont-tx-77703--2070381912)

Missy Elliott throws it back with her new iconic EP called Iconology which is now streaming online. Missy never fails to amaze her audience, old heads and new heads alike, with her music and her songs. Missy can do no wrong when it comes to production, rapping, and songwriting as well as singing. Iconology is her fresh comeback to music. Although short, this EP has highlight songs such as Throw It Back, Cool Off, and Why I Still Love You.

Missy Elliott announced the release of her new EP, Iconology, on Instagram on August 22, 2019. This  announcement came suddenly days after she, herself, revealed to be the recipient of the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at the 2019 MTV Video Music Awards. The EP was released to online streaming services by Atlantic Records on the date of August 23, 2019. It has been 14 years since we last saw an album from Missy Elliott since the release of her last album from 2005, The Cookbook. This EP is considered her comeback.

Why I Still Love You has a Frankie Lymon & The Teenagers meets Queen type of vibe. Why I Still Love You is a slow jam produced by Timbaland. Again, Missy can do no wrong when it comes to production, singing, and songwriting. Missy can do no wrong when it comes to singing especially! Missy took 50s pop and blended that sound into neo-soul.

Why I Still Love You is about a man Missy cannot seem to let go of or get rid of even though she really wants to leave him. There are many reasons as to why she still loves him.

Missy keeps going back to him. She asks herself why. Missy goes out of her way to satisfy him. Or in this case make him satisfied. She loves him too much. That doesn’t matter to him how hard she tries. He doesn’t care how Missy feels on the inside emotionally. Missy gets jealous. She tried and tried. She’s tried and tired. She don't know what to do. He’s walkin' around. Got the girls thinking he’s cute.

Missy shows awareness of how her man doesn’t care about her emotionally at the end of Verse 1. Read the lyrics to get an understanding on what I mean.

It don't matter, boy, how hard I try
You don't care how I be feelin' inside
You gon' make me tell you, "Kiss my ass goodbye"

During the chorus, Missy asks “Why the hell I still love you? Why the hell I still love you, baby?” She feels like she can’t trust him. Because he is doing her wrong by cheating on her. Why must he cheat on her? This is the big question.

Missy is not afraid to get physical. She takes a fighting stance in her lyrics. “I’ll fight you and your chick on sight/Don't play with me 'cause baby, I'm 'bout that life”

Missy stands up for herself at the end of Verse 2 by saying, “I’ma do me” and tells him not to play around with her. These lyrics explain how she stands up for herself and what she clearly tells him.: “I’ma do me, nigga, you can go and do you (Hey)/Better not play me 'cause you gon' get the boot”

It doesn’t matter to him how hard she tries. He doesn’t care how Missy feels on the inside emotionally. He will realize when Missy finds a new guy.

Missy tells him during the outro that he can go his own way and she’ll be alright. She let’s him know that she doesn’t need him anymore. She’ll be alright by herself. Missy tells him at the very end of the song to stay out of her face. Be on your way. Don't try to come back.

One would expect DripDemeanor to another annoying pop song or rap song. However that is not the case with DripDemeanor. DripDemeanor is a song about what is required for a man to date Missy Elliott. Throughout the song, she makes a list of requirements a man must meet to be with her. This goes on and on throughout the entire song.

Brandon Black was the one on the vocoder. Missy Elliott, Timbaland, and Corte Ellis wrote this song. DripDemeanor samples and interpolates Big Sean - I Don't Fuck With You.

Guys just want to her twat hot and get inside her pants. She’s too smart and sexually aware to let that happen again. So instead she lists requirements and goes on and on throughout the entire song. These are the things he must do to be with her. This what a guy must do to be with her.

You have to do marry her first in order to be with her. Her ring must be big as a rock. Don't treat her like she’s a bitch. (Da real world anyone?) She is not going to take your shit nor is she going to take shit from anyone else. Missy is lookin' for a romance.

Cool Off served as her second comeback song for this EP. She lets the public know she is back and will continue to record top charting hits which will surely hit the top charts. Missy Elliott is back in this bitch. It’s round and round like a ceiling fan. Cool off. However this song gets repetitive and annoying very quickly after 20 seconds into the song. Many fans of music can agree with this. Cool Off is one of those hit or miss songs with the fans.

The refrain to Cool Off is very repetitive and annoying. The lyrics show it all.

[Refrain]
Do it, do it, do it, do it
Do it, do it, do it, do it
Do it, do it, do it, do it
Do it, do it, do it, do it
Get it, get it, get it, get it
Get it, get it, get it, get it
Get it, get it, get it, get it
Get it, get it, get it, get it
Missy in this bitch doin' shit you ain't never seen
Missy in this bitch doin' shit you ain't never seen
Get it, get it, get it, get it
Get it, get it, get it, get it
Get it, get it, get it, get it
Get it, get it, get it (Stop)

However things start to change after Verse 1 as the refrain after Verse 1 is not as annoying or as long either. Of course the lyrics are still repetitive.

[Refrain]
Cool off
Cool off, cool off, cool off
Cool off, cool off, cool off
Cool off, cool off, cool off

Rap game, songwriting, or production, Missy and her friends will surely win. Her songs will reach the Top 10 on the BillBoard Charts. You know what they say. The song never ends. All the DJ's gon' hit that spin.

Missy throws it back on the song Throw It Back when she incorporates trap music layered over old school beats. She is not like the female rappers of today. Remember, Missy was making records with Tweet before ya’ll could even tweet. She lets everyone know on this song that clearly she is back and here to stay. This song is clearly a Missy Elliott mega melody expect without all the songs being sampled but referenced instead.

I rate this EP 4/5****!

Lil Mark’s Dimensions EP is a quirky but short electronic EP that was issued on vinyl and a digital download in 2004. The EP is nothing short of compelling meaning it’s worth listening to and writing home about. Fans of deep house music or electronic music will enjoy this short EP from Lil Mark. This EP was produced by Lil Mark and Andrew Macari on the Greenhouse Recordings label. All the song on this EP are 126 BPM.

The song Life’s A Dream uses a minimal touch of tech house mixed in with deep house music added with deep bass and electro synths. The electro synths give Life’s A Dream a tech house feel. Lil Mark takes us deep into his perspective of how life is a dream.

Isjazz is a jazz themed electronic song which uses a looped sample of a jazz song. Upright bass is used on the song to blend in the jazz and fits in appropriately. While the jazz sample gets annoying after a while, the upright bass helps balance things out for the listener.

Freak Confusion has beats, synths, and sounds fans of house music and electronic music will surely enjoy. The medium bass blends in well with the electronic sound.

I rate this EP 3/5***.

Simken Heights - Smoke Box is a long forgotten classic Lansing rap album filled with horrorcore, gangsta rap,  and acid rap. The album has that early 90s sound you would expect to hear from a rap album that was released in 1992. Of course their album has some wicked shit! Overall Smoke Box is an excellent rap album. The rough brash gangsta rap sound (along with the horrorcore) gives this album an edge.

Far warning. 3 of the songs on this album/EP came from their first album, Ashtray Junkees, which was released in 1991. Those 3 songs are Blast Blast, Smoke Box (Smokebox), and Lead Rain. On the cassette version of Smoke Box, the A Side is the Loonie Side and the B Side is the Zombie Side. Smoke Box uses the same name scheme for both sides on the cassette version.

If you are a fan of Esham, Natas, Mastamind, Mars, Twisted Insane, Twiztid, or any horrorcore rap artist, then you enjoy Simken Heights. You can't really go wrong with Simken Heights as they are true horrorcore heroes of acid rap!

Simken Heights first made their way through the Midwest in 1991 with one of their most well-known songs Blast Blast. Simken Heights began building a loyal fanbase immediately with this song. The song appeared on their debut album from 1991 called Ashtray Junkees.

Simken Heights first made their way through the Midwest in 1991 with one of second most well-known songs Smoke Box (Smokebox). Simken Heights began building a loyal fanbase immediately with this song. The song appeared on their debut album from 1991 called Ashtray Junkees.

Overall Smoke Box is a great song to burn a blunt and get high to. Despite its calming title, the song has an upbeat sound and uses an upbeat tempo. Its uptempo sound is what stands out. The sound quality is not perfect and is very low budget. Vocals play more on the right speaker than on a balanced stereo setting. This song will bring back memories.

Lunatics in the Hall is a song where both the sounds of horrorcore and acid rap are utilized. The raw distinct vocal blend of Cap One’s voice blended in perfectly with the horrorcore vibe. So does the voice of Mass. Lunatics in the Hall takes you into the mindset of a serial killer. No filler material here.

Cap One raps the first verse.

Beechfield Drive in Lansing, Michigan is where Cap One dwells. He’s clocking Gs and making cash. Cap One sits on his smoke box and takes a blast. Paranoid like a fiend, he starts to hear voices in the background. He looks to see who's talking but there is no one around. His mind is playing tricks on him. He feels possessed and prays for homicide. So he grabs the pumps and the shells. Now it's time for drama!

Stalking victims in the night like Jeffrey Dahmer. You can't escape a killer. Three pills of Prozac is the main ingredient to detonate this maniac. His goes for his first victim using a pump shotgun. Somehow he misses. So he grabs a machete instead. He can't take it anymore. So Cap One tries another hit of the hydroponic smoke before making his next move.

Cap One is on a hunt like Michael Myers but this ain't Halloween. The next place Cap One goes to is Belmont Park Apartments on Reo Road. Belmont Park Apartments on Reo Road soon turns into a murder scene. He goes to apartment 306 and killed residents.

Then he glanced out the window and saw someone jump the fence. The person climbing the fence stumbles and falls. So Cap One takes the opportunity to chop this person up into pieces. Blood and guts are all over the street. Cap One is a cannibal. Some say he’s sick. And deranged in the halls was a crazy lunatic.

In the tunnel of confusion with evil in his eyes, hunting for his prey, the victim slowly dies. As the bodies start to fall, the lunatic lurks in the hall.

Mass raps the second verse and hook.

Unwilling to escape from the world that Mass is trapped in. A voice starts to speak in his mind. Unconsciously it tells him to go create a disaster. He crosses the Styx River and follow shadows in his sleep. Psychologically, he's lost it for good.

Isolation is building from the pressure inside him. He can't manage. Walking down the hall, looking for his prey. He put his hands around their neck and commences to doing the damage. There is no understanding this chaotic individual. Of course he likes to watch them scream.

Tied to this lunacy by bonds of fate. His head gets to spinning quick and now he's full of hatred. And the spirits keep on whispering, "tear them at the seams!"

While sneaking down the corridor his blood starts to boil. Now he begins to devour his next victim just stepping in the door. Then he buries them in the soil after he watches them gurgle up on their blood. He sits beside the body on the floor where it lay.

Cap One pleads insanity in the second verse. Cap One is not your everyday crook. He has a schizophrenic habit of cannibalism. Body parts is what he’s after.

Notice how he uses the suffix “-ing” in his rhyming scheme. The rhyming scheme Cap One uses is similar to the ABAB rhyming scheme.

Insanity's what I'm pleading
On the flesh that I'm eating
Evil grin on my face as the bodies start bleeding

A chainsaw is his murder weapon of choice. Cap One skins his victim like a hunter would a deer. From the front to the rear. He kept their heads for souvenirs. Blood is on his face.

As his brain starts to swell, he begins to see visions of Hell. Cap One feels as if he were trapped in the Village of the Damned.

Cap One did a drive-by on 58 innocent victims at random. Even people who he knew. His mother, his boss, his cat, his brother, and his kids. Now the damage is done. His mind is at peace. He proceeds to blow his brains out. The lunatic is now deceased.

War Horse follows up where Lunatics in the Hall left off. The song is a story of revenge.

Yeah! Once again it’s Simken Heights and Cap One. Grand Avenue and Simken Heights is where the group is from. These niggaz used to roll the streets on Cedar Street and Baker Street.

Mass is one shady ass character who has got the knack for serving out the punishment. It’s another bloody night in the Village of the Damned. Mass is a nigga who's a warhorse. And his brain is feeling heavy off that reefer that he smokes. Police have warrants on his ass and his license got suspended a long time ago for several violations.

But it's time to settle a beef. So it's time to go for broke.Time to sacrifice at another ceremony. Destruction on his mind. So he grabs his gun quickly.

He is prowling the night for revenge. However Mass is outnumbered five to one (5 on 1). The beef is uneven. This causes him to come up with a different plan. So he pulls up in his car a block away from where his enemies kick are located at. They are standing in the kitchen. He sneaks up to the side of the house, peeked into the windows, and with no hesitation, he cocks his ammunition unloading shells. Now it's time for the kill.Blood is about to spill.

The blood drips from the tables and the chairs. Oozing in the sink and down the kitchen stove. Looking to the sky for the very last time. Now he takes his last breath and his body turns cold.

Cap One jumps into his jeep. He grabs his gun plus a fifth of E & J. He is headed for Willow Vista. Time for some drama. Simken Heights ain't no joke. Niggas tripping off the hit of hydroponic smoke. Cap One kicked open the door and caught people in their sleep. He blasts out a full magnum round.

Six niggas dead with hollow points in that ass. One nigga got away out the window. So Cap One ran through the back looking for that nigga. At least that's what he thought.

He gets into the car and goes down the road. He made a left at Chestnut and drives toward Saginaw Street. That nigga would have got away but not tonight. Cap One is right behind the fool so he pulled out his heat. Put a slug in that ass on Saginaw Street. "Please, oh please, oh please don't shoot me anymore!" Cap One put the barrel into that nigga’s mouth like a dick. The last sound heard was his trigger going click.

Deteriation Piece is diss song aimed at rival neighborhoods in Lansing. Simken Heights had a handful of beef and rivalries in the 90s with certain neighborhoods. For instance there was time when Pinebrook Manor had beef with Simken Heights. The song Deteriation Piece is perfect example of gangsta rap.

Cap One raps on Verse 1.

The west side gots the drama. The west side of Lansing seems to have beef with Simken Heights. Cap One knows it’s time to settle the score. The neighborhood runners in the hood got things hot right now. Ain't no love for those that want to run up or jump up. They get their serve on in the spot that Cap One pumped up. He is taking no losses. Cap One handles his business with hollow points then bails out.

Then he moves onto Shepard Street with four deep in a jeep on a creep. 17 shots in the glock for the holdup. The rocks are floating in his smoke box. You best to clear his path as he loads up. And when the lead hit your body tell me do it burn as you lay on the concrete your body squirms. They called the paramedics. They arrive on the scene, try to give you anesthetics, And CPR. Paramedics are running out of time. As you take your last breath, your body is stiff and then you flatline. Now death takes control. Steppin' on his toes is a result of gun smoke.

What can I say? He loves blood and guts. And he won't hesitate to take a motherfucker's life.

Demonstrating complication hypnotized by the fire from the cannon. Taking the body in a devastating way. Burning in a storm that still will create. The holder of this will respond and destroy them. Now they lay deceased.

See him coming at him in a frenzy of powder. Reaching his target in a final situation. Silent on the hit. That's the method of the Beast. Now the body is ready for deteriation.

Running for cover and shelter is the best solution. Running to stay alive is what happens. Running for shelter to escape the heat. Running to believe only to be caught up in the possible. They stumble to the ground. Now they bleed and feel pain. Nobody stands tall after the incident. The aftermath is very indecent. Tearing in the cavity while blowing out the organs and sending the receiver to be judged by Christ. Coming at him at a speed that he can't imagine. And now he digs 7 holes for another sacrifice.

5-0 (police) is on Cap One’s trail by Verse 3. He tries to maintain and keep his head right. He takes a hit of Hennessey and then I commences to light twelve blunts of skunk.

He takes his victims, dips them into cement, and drops them in Lake Michigan. As they sink to the bottom they begin to lose oxygen.

Cap One’s going after his rivals holed up in the Pinebrook Manor Apartments on the Southwest Side of Lansing, Michigan. That is what the lyrics “Retaliate on they crew up in Pinebrook” are referring to. Pinebrook Manor and Simken Heights were rivals with each other. Infrared beam on that ass. Another life is took. Cap One gots the lead, the ammo, and the buckshots. Leaving dead bodies laying in the parking lot. Murder one. Cap One is not a killer not for hire.

His next plan is to torture some people through methods of electrocution. He ties his victims up in some water and live wire. Finally he proceeds to electrocute motherfuckers with many volts. Your best bet is call up the military to get some help because this shit is gettin' scary! You don't believe me? Take a look at this hostage.

I rate this album 4/5****!

Mixerr Album Reviews #1,854

Simken Heights - Ashtray Junkees is a long forgotten classic Lansing rap album filled with horrorcore and acid rap that meets the sounds of blues music. The album has that early 90s sound you would expect to hear from a rap album that was released in 1991. Of course their album has some wicked shit!

If you are a fan of Esham, Natas, Mastamind, Mars, Twisted Insane, Twiztid, or any horrorcore rap artist, then you enjoy Simken Heights. You can't really go wrong with Simken Heights as they are true horrorcore heroes of acid rap!

The A Side is the Loonie Side and the B Side is the Zombie Side.

Learning To Fly has a unique sound where blues music meets acid rap with a touch of that wicked horrorcore sound. The song uses heavy bass. The strings selection is composed of upright bass, acoustic guitar, and an electric guitar. Learning To Fly has a mellow mid tempo vibe. The electric guitar used gives Learning To Fly that sad downtempo blues sound.

Simken Heights first made their way through the Midwest in 1991 with one of their most well-known songs Blast Blast. Simken Heights began building a loyal fanbase immediately with this song. The song later appeared on their second album from 1992 called Smoke Box.

Ignite It has that eerie sound similar to that crunk Memphis rap. Simken Heights shows a nihilistic look on life on this song.

I rate this album 4/5****!

A look into history regarding the Sterling Mines of Stirling, Nova Scotia, Canada.

Sterling Mines was one of the many mines that operated in the country of Canada. In fact, Sterling Mines is one of the most forgotten historic metal mines of Canada. Not much history regarding Sterling Mines has been accurately preserved.

The Sterling Mines were established in 1872 southbound of Stirling Road in Stirling, Nova Scotia, Canada. This mine was operated by the Glace Bay Mining Company as a shaft mine. (Ref: https://www.mininghistory.ns.ca/lfrost/lfster.htm)

The Sterling mine belonged to deputy surveyor Thomas Peyton, Dr. William Stirling, and two other men. Thomas Peyton sold his portion of the mine to Dr. William Stirling later. (Ref: https://travelsdocbox.com/68166017-Budget_Travel/Special-volume-26-the-canadian-institute-of-mining-and-metallurgy.html)

A hydraulic system was installed to pump water to the mines during that time. These collieries were operated between 1872 and 1914. The water in this system is assumed to be at equilibrium with the outfalls, which are at approximately 5ft ASL. Sterling Mines were also known as Old Harbour Mine and Sterling Mine. (Ref: http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/obj/s4/f2/dsk2/ftp01/MQ39671.pdf)

People made a lot of money working at mines panning for silver and zinc during the boom days. Many people worked at the Sterling Mines panning for silver and zinc. Old timers remember the boom days of panning for metals.

The mine dried up sometime in 1895. During that time, coal was discovered near the business section of town. This led to a decline in metal mining. Coal was becoming an in-demand natural resource for the town and Nova Scotia as well. A huge percentage of the Nova Scotia providence had coals mines scattered around.

The Sterling Mines closed in 1896. Executives made a decision to abandon Sterling Mines during that time. Many of Cape Breton's natural resources had already dried up. Sterling Mines had produced 1,151,199 long tons of metal during its time of operation.

The Sterling Mines are located at Mine Road, Stirling, Nova Scotia, Canada. Look for the t-shaped intersection of Stirling Road (Sterling Road) & Mine Road. Postal address for Sterling Mines is Mine Rd, Stirling, NS B2J 1G2, Canada.

Pleasantville Janeway Hospital in St. John’s, Newfoudland, Canada forgotten. Revisited by Mixerr Reviews.

In the year of 1966, Pleasantville Janeway Hospital was built as a 4 story children's hospital in St. John’s, Newfoudland, Canada. Pleasantville Janeway Hospital was originally named the Dr. Charles Alderson Janeway Child Health Centre after Charles Alderson Janeway. Dr. Charles Alderson was hugely responsible for helping establish this children’s hospital. (Ref: https://www.hiddennewfoundland.ca/janeway-hostel)

Pleasantville Janeway Hospital was established on the old US Military Base Hospital at Fort Pepperell. In fact, Pleasantville Janeway Hospital used to be the Fort Pepperell US Military Hospital, but was converted into a new children's hospital in 1966. Pleasantville Janeway Hospital operated as a children’s hospital for 30 years until 1996.

Pleasantville Janeway Hospital went under several names over the years when it operated as a children’s hospital such as, Pleasantville Janeway Hospital, Janeway Children's Health and Rehabilitation Centre, Dr. Charles Alderson Janeway Child Health Centre, Pleasantville Janeway Children’s Hospital, Pleasantville Janeway, Janeway Children’s Hospital, and Janeway Hospital.

This children's hospital helped children and infants who suffered from serious health conditions get better and continue a healthy lifestyle ever year when it was in operation.

However this hospital faced conditions of overcrowding but there was not enough room to house the parents of children admitted to the hospital. No hotels were located near the hospital. Travel prices were a burden for many visiting parents who needed to be close(r) to their children.

Because of this among several other issues, St. Johns Northwest Rotary Club raised $2.5 million dollars to build the Rotary-Janeway Hostel in 1982 to relieve overcrowding at the children’s hospital. Rotary-Janeway Hostel was located across the street from the hospital. The hostel provided parents and families with a cheap and close place to stay. Rotary-Janeway Hostel charged parents and family members the cheap price of $32 dollars a night for a room and could check in 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

In 1996 the hospital to be part of a health complex at a nearby university after much need to expand its space to a growing population in Canada. The hospital was abandoned after that.

There was a fire in one of the wings on the main floor in 1997. Several ceiling tiles collapsed inside after the fire. Many wires were found hanging down. Nobody exactly knows what exactly caused or started the fire to this building complex. (Ref: https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/newfoundland-labrador/old-janeway-hospital-to-be-demolished-1.641205)
