This is Michael Mixerr. I am going to do a short album review on the Don't Test album by Lil Maniyak out of Memphis, Tennessee. However I will discuss the musical sound and production of this album mostly. The Don't Test album by Lil Maniyak was released on cassette in 1994 and to the internet in 2013.
If you are looking for that grimey underground crunk music sound from Memphis similar to Tommy Wright III, Al Kapone, Project Pat, Lil Corb, 3 6 Mafia, DJ Zirk, Kami Kaze Klan, and La Chat, then this album is for you. Lil Maniyak is very similar to Lil Ramsey, Lil Slim, Orange Mound Playaz, Al Kapone, and DJ Zirk. If you are an avid collector of Memphis rap, buy this album!
The musical production sound and sound quality of this particular album is very similar to the acid rap and ghetto tech coming out of Detroit. This cassette is filled rawness and griminess. Think raw raps from the underground. There is a huge difference between the crunk music from Memphis and Atlanta. The crunk music coming from Atlanta is geared more towards the club scene and mainstream radio while the crunk music coming from Memphis is more grimey for the underground rap scene. Crunk music from Memphis was not originally geared for the mainstream radio in the music industry. That is my experience with crunk music.
I rate this album, Don't Test, 5/5*****!!
