This is Michael Mixerr. I will do a review on Black Mikey - Premeditated Music.
For those who don't know Black Mikey is a musician/artist out of San Diego, preferably Southeast San Diego (SESD) who in 2009 signed to Mitchy Slick's Tha WrongKind Records. He has been writing his own lyrics since 1990. Black Mikey has been rapping since Rappers Delight and I don't think that there has been a rapper as tight!
Black Mikey mixes soul, reggae, and rap on his own cover of Mark Morrison - Return Of The Mack. Only Black Mikey’s cover version is called return of the Return Of The Black. Black Mikey uses his reggae chanting with a soulful touch. [He was well known for his Reggae style voice in the 90s in San Diego (SESD).] Reggae Black Mikey is sick! The production is off the hook!
Black Mikey goes straight up lyrical on Jealousy. He spits out a bunch of bars and verses. He is known for his lyrical witty rhymes in his rap.
Lyrical geniuses Black Mikey and Redrum781 go lyrical on the track Spit Flame. The combination of the two made Spit Flame an underground success. Black Mikey and Redrum781 do their best to bring the West Coast back.
Black Mikey is a crossover of old school meets new school and new school meet old school. Also he has this Jamaican reggae-ton voice in a lot of his early tracks and a few in his new tracks. The album is sample crazy unlike most today. Stepping Stones, Return Of The Black, Burn Rubber, We No Scare, Spit Flame, and Jealousy are the best tracks off the album! This is a must have!
I rate this album, Premeditated Music, 5/5*****!
