Kidd-X - The Unknown one of the lesser known Bay Area rap albums that have been very much overlooked and overshadowed. The album leaned toward using a more East Coast rap sound than the usual West Coast rap sound that was prevalent and burgeoning in the Bay Area during that time. This album uses touches of jazz hop, jazz rap, and soul. We (Represent), Worse Thing In This World, No M.C. Has, M.C.’s, and Payback are examples of tracks that use samples from jazz songs and soul songs. Rap from San Jose tends to get overlooked as Bay Area rap fans tend to buy music from Oakland, San Francisco, Palo Alto, Vallejo, or Richmond. This album is one of those example of overlooked Bay Area rap albums.
Worst Thing In This World uses a mixture of jazz and hip hop. Kidd-X raps in an East Coast rough neck style as he kicks mad rhymes. Kidd-X stood out here. Worse Thing In This World uses a tinge of soul music over a jazz sample.
The song Payback heavily relies on the funky soulful sample of James Brown - Payback. A handful of collected samples are used throughout the song.
Kidd-X rips MC’s to shreds on We (Represent) as he is on the prowl to take out wack MC’s. The song is about who is the baddest MC. Classic lyrical rap is what this song is. Plado from the Twisted Mind Kids contributes to the track with his vocals. We (Represent) samples Grover Washington, Jr - Tell Me About It Now.
Kidd-X on the prowl to rip MC’s to shreds. Especially wack MC’s. He also rips folks to shreds. He does not stop when he raps on the mic. You know who’s the baddest. He practices with his rhymes. That is how he gets better at rapping. His skills are dynamite. He’ll serve you something phat from your menu. A microphone is what he uses to rock the crowd.
Kidd-X is on the hunt for wack MC’s. He is about to break them down. Suckers are trying to burn him. How are they going to test him? Their knowledge is minimal. This makes him really mad. So he cuts them up like meat in a scullery.
I rate this album 4/5****!
