The second phase of clean up at San Jose Cemetery II is in progress. Many trees have been cut down to make room for pathways. Many branches have been cleared out. A couple of tombstones and grave markers have been repositioned in the process.
New burials are being discovered in the cleaning process. Many of these recently discovered burials are unnamed and unmarked graves. The San Jose Cemeterio Trusteeship is currently trying to figure the names of people who are buried in these unmarked graves and locate their living descendants, heirs, or relatives. Many of these unmarked graves are the burials of infants.
The main goal San Jose Cemeterio Trusteeship is looking to accomplish currently is to clear up the south side of the cemetery so pathways can be allotted and established to grave sites in time for Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead). This cemetery has much so much history dating all the way back to the mid-19th century The grounds of have been prepared for Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead). Volunteers are still needed to help set up.
