Mixerr Album Reviews #278

This is Michael Mixerr. Today I will review Tunnel of Love by Insane Clown Posse. This EP was released in 1994/2013 on Psychopathic Records. The rerelease was in 2013. Think thrash metal and horrorcore.

To me, ICP signing to Jive Records & Hollywood Records was a bad move because Jive Records was a family friendly record label in the 90s. Jive was known to be a censorship bully as well. They censored the shit out of UGK and Too Short's music. The same goes for Hollywood Records! No surprise there with that said. Going back to Psychopathic for ICP was a good move before signing with Hollywood Records.

Tunnel of Love was done right after their contract with Jive expired. ICP had just 2 days of being independent again before officially being signed to Hollywood Records, so their decided to record and release an EP independently on Psychopathic Records.
Tunnel of Love was released with an alternate version with a pornographic album cover and a bonus track called Mental Warp. Shaggy 2 Dope had replaced the actors face with his on the albums front cover. An actor with an erect penis is standing next to two women.

Record stores refused to sell the Tunnel of Love album, so this album was sold at concerts by ICP at the time of 1994. The pornographic addition became sought after by many ICP fans and collectors. This edition is very rare and hard to find.

Not everybody can handle the dopeness of Shaggy 2 Dope! (Or wickedness of Shaggy 2 Dope for that matter.) So the 2013 rerelease is censored for the lighthearted fans. Which sucks! The album didn't make as much money as ICP planned for. I was saddened to hear that.

The promotional tactics used for Tunnel of Love were incomprehensible to many ICP fans and Juggaloes. A pink Tunnel of Love van with flowers on it was used as a promotional tactic in order to promote the Tunnel of Love EP at one point. The public debt not understand why Psychopathic Records what using on usual type of tactic in their promotions.

I love the visual concept of this EP so far. So it seems that this EP's visual concept is filled with love Amore with the Horrorcore juggalo sound. ICP's shows off their more darker side for the Dark Carnival saga. ICP is more sexually explicit on this EP then all their other album/EPs.

I rate this album/EP, Tunnel of Love, 5/5*****!!
