This is Michael Mixerr. Today I will review Tow Down - Chicken Fried Steak.
After enjoying moderate regional success with his first album in the state of Texas, he released a sophomore album titled Chicken Fried Steak in 2002. Chicken Fried Steak is a fine example of country rap for which Texas is well known for. Tow Down is an example of fine country rap next to Haystak, Butta Bean, Paul Wall, Bubba Sparxxx, Mean Gene, Lil Black, and Nelly. In fact, Tow Down’s delivery style of rap is similar to Haystak, Butta Bean, Paul Wall, and Bubba Sparxxx.
Included in the liner notes are recipe for chicken fried steak and ingredients for that recipe. A high amount of salt and pepper is used in this recipe. This Tow Down album wouldn’t be complete without a recipe for chicken fried steak. Hence the title.
Chicken Fried Steak is a fine brehsive country rap tune by Tow Down. The tune is the highlight of this album. Of course you can’t have chicken fried steak without the grits. Add a portion of steak sauce and you are good to go. Ironically everything mentioned in the tune is food theme. Not everyone can handle the brehsiveness of Tow Down. Take noice of the raw country sound.
The Tow Down tune is all about getting high. Plain and simple as the Tow Down tune is smooth country rap. The beat is bananas and totally funny. Tow Down contains a portion of Slow Down by Brand Nubian. The whole track was produced by Grizz.
The Interview is spoken word over a funky funny beat with such great storytelling. The chorus in the background is gold. His rhymes are gold. He always delivers out great rhymes.
Rich Girl is about how a rich girl falls in love with a man for his money. She is basically using him as she is after his money. It was love at first site as Tow Down explains. This rich girl had intentions and ambitions for the finer things in life that rich people can afford. Tow Down explains he’s not having it in the middle of the song. (Even his manager couldn’t manage this.) The moral to the story is that you can’t rely on another man’s money. You can’t rely on Tow Down’s money. Rely on your own money.
Ronetta Spencer is featured on the chorus hooks. The chorus in the background is gold. Rich Girl is a country rap cover version of Hall & Oates - Rich Girl by Tow Down and Ronetta Spencer.
I rate this album, Chicken Fried Steak, 5/5*****!!
