Business behind ginning at Elroy Gin Company in Del Valle, Texas explored.

Elroy Gin Company is one of the few cotton gins operated in Elroy, Texas. Not to mention Del Valle, Texas. Elroy Gin Company served as a cotton gin where some of the ginning in Travis County was done during the early 20th century. Cotton was grown here also. Elroy Gin Company is one of many forgotten cotton gins of Travis County.

George Eklund opened Elroy Gin Company sometime during the early 20th century. Elroy Gin Company was established somewhere along the line south of FM 812. This cotton gin would reside there for many years.

New equipment installed at the Elroy Gin Company in summer of 1934. The price for each bale was 15 cents per pound for the cotton. (Ref: https://www.newspapers.com/newspage/386112099/)

Tom Blomquist started operating the Elroy Gin Company in 1947. Tom Blomquist re-opened Elroy Gin Company in August 2, 1947 after a change in ownership. An average between 700 and 800 bales cotton were produced at Elroy Gin Company in past years. However since re-opening the gin he had ginned only 47 bales. In the past, he frequently has ginned through March. (Ref: https://www.newspapers.com/newspage/385924912/)

Sadly not much is known about what happened to Elroy Gin Company or what led to its demise.

Elroy Gin Company was located on 13212 Piland Triangle, Del Valle, Texas, US 78617.
