History behind the blue colored Stripes building in Port Aransas, Texas explained.

The blue colored Stripes on North Alister Street in Port Aransas, Texas is something that many Port Aransas Island residents and locals wonder about. This news article will explain some of history behind the blue colored Stripes building.

The blue colored Stripes on North Alister Street in Port Aransas, Texas was built in 1982 and first opened as a film processing center called the Ice Box. People would take their film which came from their camera to get processed. Inside of this film processing center was a lab where film would be processed. Ice Box operated from 1982 to 1991. This building was later sold to 7 ELEVEN INC to become a 7 ELEVEN store/branch in 1992. This 7 ELEVEN store/branch would operate at this location from 1992 to 2020 and would own this property for close to 20 years. A convenience store called Stripes operated at this location. Stripes operated at this location for close to 20 years. Stripes was known for serving some of the best hottest freshest meals in Port Aransas. Even in the entire Coastal Bend. This led the building to become renown.

Hurricane Harvey heavily damaged the building in 2018. The building became unusable. Much refurbishing work and renovation needed to be done. Stripes was one of the three Port Aransas properties where convenience stores have been out of business since Hurricane Harvey struck on August 25, 2018. Workers from R&R Petro removed an underground gasoline storage tank on Thursday, July 26, 2018. The store already was closed before Hurricane Harvey struck. 7 ELEVEN INC would own this building until 2020. For whatever reason, 7 ELEVEN INC sold the property to Dan Breaux on a special warranty deed on the date thereof 1/22/2020. Today Dan Breaux now owns the property. (Ref: Nueces County Deeds, Deed #2020003201)

Today the former Stripes convenience store remains vacant, abandoned, and shuttered with no refurbishing work underway. 7-Eleven has no plans to open the building anytime soon. The City of Port Aransas has sent the property owners a letter asking what the owners plan to do with the property.
