A look at one of Staten Island’s lesser known houses called the Pessolano House. A perspective of pre-Civil War Staten Island.

The Pessolano House was believed to be built in 1860 as a multi-family home on a 9,975 square foot lot. The Pessolano House was 2 stories in height, had 4 bedrooms, and 3 full baths. 2,688 square feet is the size of the living area. The lot's depth is 105 feet and width is 95 feet. Jonathan Pessolano was the original owner of the house. (Ref: https://clustrmaps.com/a/1lon8c/)

The Pessolano House was rebuilt in 1901 and had 2 units instead of 4 units. The height in terms of storied remained the same as when originally built. (Ref: https://streeteasy.com/building/228-fingerboard-road-staten_island)

India Navigation Co. operated out of the Pessolano House during the mid-1970s. India Navigation Co. was owned by Bob Cummins and was distributed by Jazz Composers Orchestra Association. His business sold jazz music recordings and releases. (Ref: https://worldradiohistory.com/Archive-All-Music/Billboard/70s/1974/Billboard-1974-09-14-International-Buyer%27s-Guide.pdf)

By 2003, the Pessolano House became abandoned and was no longer being used as a place of residency. Teresa Pessolano and Jonathan J Pessolano boarded all windows shut using thin sheets of plywood. This plywood was to keep trespassers out. Teresa Pessolano was still paying property taxes on their house and property during the mid-2000s.

Suddenly a suspicious fire ravaged the Pessolano House on the night of February 20, 2007 at 10:30 PM. The flames were extinguished in a little less than an hour, and the Buildings Department was notified to inspect the building's structural integrity.
