Rice Temple was an independent Methodist church that was separate from any congregation and was not affiliated with any other church. Rice Temple IM was Rice Temple Independent Methodist Church aka Rice's Temple. Preaching services began at 11:30 AM on each Sunday. Rev T. W. Rice was pastor of Rice Temple IM during the 1950s and 1960s.

The first cornerstone of Rice Temple IM was laid at the corner of Wheatley Avenue and G Street in the Wheatley Heights neighborhood on Sunday, July 31, 1957 at 3 PM. T. H. Holden served as the master of ceremony. A spiritual feast had been conducted the following week.
