History of the Rice Temple IM in San Antonio, Texas explored.

Rice Temple IM is one of the most forgotten churches of the Wheatley Heights neighborhood in San Antonio, Texas. This news article will explain the history of Rice Temple IM.

Rice Temple was an independent Methodist church that was separate from any congregation and was not affiliated with any other church. Rice Temple IM was Rice Temple Independent Methodist Church aka Rice's Temple. Preaching services began at 11:30 AM on each Sunday. Rev T. W. Rice was pastor of Rice Temple IM during the 1950s and 1960s.



The first cornerstone of Rice Temple IM was laid at the corner of Wheatley Avenue and G Street in the Wheatley Heights neighborhood on Sunday, July 31, 1957 at 3 PM. T. H. Holden served as the master of ceremony. A spiritual feast had been conducted the following week. The second cornerstone of Rice Temple IM was laid down on the Sunday afternoon of March 16, 1958 at 3:30 PM at the corner of Wheatley Avenue and G Street. An old fashioned revival using the method of the old 100 hymns and fervent prayers to the city of San Antonio “a gateway to heaven” started at Rice Temple IM on April 25, 1958. Rev. L. C. Rice Temple also hosted and ran a 30-day campaign on May 12, 1961. The religious campaign lasted from May 12, 1961 to June 12, 1961. Rice's Temple ran a campaign to determine the number of non-church numbers, sinners, and members in the city of San Antonio, Texas.
