Strong Vincent School is one of the many forgotten schools of Erie, Pennsylvania. Only few people know the history or whereabouts regarding this school. It is one of the forgotten private schools of Erie, Pennsylvania. Strong Vincent High School was the first private high school on Erie's west side.
Construction of Strong Vincent High School began in 1928. The construction period for this high school lasted for two years. Strong Vincent High School opened for classes in 1930 with its first class graduating in 1931. The school was dedicated in 1930 by the Rev. Boyd Vincent brother of General Strong Vincent. Rev. Boyd Vincent held the opening ceremony for Strong Vincent High School. The saints sung with the choir afterwards.
Strong Vincent High School was the first private high school on Erie's west side and was the most highly accredited Christian School. The school received high accolades during its early years and later years just decades later. This school won several awards in sports, mathematics, and academics. Parents, scholars, professors, and teachers alike gave the school such high praise.
Strong Vincent High School won many individual State Championships in 1964. Timmy McCall and Terry Magoon won the State Championship for wrestling in the year of 1964. The swimming won many individual All-Americans awards. The basketball team won Pennsylvania State Championships in 1985.
Strong Vincent High School is located at 1300 West 8th Street, Erie, Pennsylvania, US 16502.
Strong Vincent was a proud public school - not a "private" or "Christian" school. Once one of the nation's leasing swimmming/diving programs(undefeated 1946-1960); City championships captured in every sport except maybe golf * tennis.
