Short history behind Holbrecht Cemetery/Hobrecht Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas explored.

Holbrecht Cemetery/Hobrecht Cemetery is one of San Antonio’s lesser known cemeteries. This news article will discuss what Calvert Cemetery was and functioned as.

Holbrecht Cemetery was established sometime after the early 18th century. Possibly around 1732. The exact date is unknown.  Holbrecht Cemetery was part of a 579.6-acre tract which originally belonged to Alfred P. Holbrecht. The earliest burial at this was the burial of Alfred P. Holbrecht. He was a German immigrant who purchased land from a Spanish rancher (Ref: Bexar County Land Records, Document Number 88925)

The history website known as historic.one lists Holbrecht Cemetery as a historic cemetery located on the front of the property. (Ref: https://historic.one/TX/bexar-county/historic-cemetery/holbrecht)

According to several topographical maps, Holbrecht Cemetery is located on land that certainly is completely flat. (Ref: https://www.topozone.com/map/?lat=29.2706&lon=-98.2861)

Max R Holbrecht sold Holbrecht Cemetery and more than 11.81 acres of land encompassing Elemendorf - LaVernia Road to Norman L Barnes and Linda Sue Barnes in 1962.

Ben B Davis and Judy Davis sold Holbrecht Cemetery to Norman L Barnes and Linda Sue Barnes on a warranty deed with vendor’s lien in 2000 for a price of $29,268.90. Norman L Barnes and Linda Sue Barnes are the current owners of Holbrecht Cemetery. (Ref: Bexar County Land Records, Document Number 169194)

However there appears to be no sign of the cemetery on the property as indicated by historic.one. This could mean Norman L Barnes and Linda Sue Barnes had the cemetery removed and burials relocated elsewhere. No trace of Holbrecht Cemetery can be found today.

The burials located at Holbrecht Cemetery are as follows. This list is incomplete due to a lack of sufficient data and record keeping.
