This album was released on cassette in 1994 on Po-Man Records/Rouse Records, Inc. and distributed by DJ Clay’s Boomin’ Distribution from Flint, Michigan. DJ Clay was the man responsible for securing a distribution deal for Welfed for a short stint in the 90s. Welfed was affiliated with the Boomin’ Records Posse.
DJ Clay of Ruff-N-Rugged lends a hand in production on this album. That’s why you can hear the Boomin’ Records sound and production style throughout this whole album. That’s also the reason why Flint hip hop/rap group Ruff-N-Rugged was all over the album. DJ Clay was the man responsible for securing a distribution deal for Welfed to have his albums distributed by Boomin’ Distribution. Welfed was affiliated with the Boomin’ Records for a short stint in the 90s.
Soul music meets rap and spoken word on the Soulman album. The albums sound is similar to smooth Quiet Storm soul. Welfed (Anthony Austin) performs spoken word on this album with tracks such as Daydream, Caught Up, Open My Window, and Soulman.
Daydream is a smooth Quiet Storm soul ballad with a both dreamy vibe and feel. This dreamy vibe will make you feel nostalgic. Welfed takes us on a journey to a world where there is 100% peace. Open your mind and close your eyes to imagine what Welfed is describing. Your mind is at peace. Your mind is at ease. All the tension is released as it’s time to get mellow with Welfed. In this track we just daydream. The track turns into a love ballad after getting 1 minute into the song. We are caught up in a daydream. Peace and love are the themes for Daydream.
Open My Window has a retro vintage soul sound. Soul music meets rap and spoken word on Open My Window. Both C-Lo D of Ruff-N-Rugged and Welfed hook up on this track. Open My Window debates how other MC’s try to test their lyrical skills when it comes to rapping. Both C-Lo D and Welfed test their lyrical skills against each other on this track.
