This is Michael Mixerr. Today I will do a review about Stacy G. – One Man Riot.
Stacy G. was the first rapper from Las Vegas, Nevada to have an album out that received major distribution on a nationwide basis. His album was distributed by Pump Records in 1990 as that is when the album was released. The album was released by KQ Records and Pump Records. One Man Riot is early gangsta rap and hip hop from Las Vegas, Nevada predating Doomsday Productions, Playah J, and 187.
Big Dale (Dale Mitchell), Fila Al, and Stacy G. produced a majority of this album while DJ Scratch was in charge of the vinyl scratches you hear on this album. Most of this album is hip hop oriented with a touch of gangsta rap. Stacy G produced damn near the whole album himself. Stacy G is a pioneer in Las Vegas hip hop and Las Vegas rap.
I’m That Nigga was the select hit single for this album. I’m That Nigga was selected to be a single because Stacy G chose to do so himself. DJ Scratches is responsible for the vinyl scratches on I’m That Nigga. Other than that, I’m That Nigga is a Las Vegas style Jackin’ 4 Beats.
Gangsta Poetry features spoken word and gangsta rap from rap pioneer Stacy G. Spoken word meets gangsta rap on Gangsta Poetry.
Ain't Nothing Like This features KC and the Sunshine Band which is truly an odd decision for a someone to feature on a rap album. Ain't Nothing Like This samples KC and the Sunshine Band. Having a track or song sample KC and the Sunshine Band is pure genius!
I rate this album, One Man Riot, 4/5****.
