This is Michael Mixerr. Today I will review Bloody Mary - Day Of Resurrection.
Bloody Mary - Day Of Resurrection was released on CD in 2003 by none other than Dangerous Records. Day Of Resurrection is one of the lesser known albums from the Dangerous Records catalog along with Benni Banks. Day Of Resurrection is a compilation album that was a “double play” album with 23 tracks. Ronnie Ron, Captain Geek & DJ Noise, Leroy Dukes, and DJ Battlecat, produced a majority of this album which is why you hear his & others work all over this album. (Although it was Ronnie Ron that produced damn near this album.) Belizean rapper Big Stretch is all over this album. So are rappers Moe-B and Ms. Bonnie. Big Stretch is all over the album in fact. (This is the same Bloody Mary that appeared on Bloods & Crips - Piru Love just to set the record straight.)
Crabs Keep On Slipping (Closed Casket) is a diss track aimed at the Crips gang. Blood gang members retaliate against rival Crip members on wax. Which is exactly what Bloody Mary, Redrum781, and Red Rag (now Big Wy) do. They take shots against other rival gang members by going up against them on Crabs Keep On Sliping (Closed Casket). [Crabs is a derogatory name for Crips.]
Crabs Keep On Slipping (Closed Casket) was a leftover cut that did not make it onto the final cut of the Bangin’ On Wax album. Bloody Mary, Redrum781, and Red Rag were featured on Crabs Keep On Sliping (Closed Casket). Although Bloody Mary was featured on this cut, she however, does not rap but is instead included in the hook. Redrum781 and Red Rag take charge of most of the track. They are the ones that rap all over Crabs Keep On Slipping (Closed Casket).
Bitch Get Lifted is a B Brazy/Bloody Mary duo cut although B Brazy performs most of the rapping donning the track into a B Brazy solo. Some B Brazy fans and Bangin’ On Wax fans regard Bitch Get Lifted as a B Brazy solo track. B Brazy is all over the place here.
A funky James Brown sampled is looped all over Bitch Get Lifted. The track Bitch Get Lifted seems to be overall James Brown inspired. Ronnie Ron must have been inspired by the funky sounds of James Brown when he produced this track in 1997. Bitch Get Lifted is a perfect song to listen to with bass boosted. Bitch Get Lifted came from Ronnie Rons' Gangsta-Lation Album in 2000.
Kill Crabs 4 Fun has an old school hip hop feel with brazened wild Jamaican vocals. Bloody Mary and Ms. Bonnie rap with a faux Jamaican patois accent on Kill Crabs 4 Fun. Kill Crabs 4 Fun has an upbeat Jamaican style punch to an upbeat vibe and upbeat beats. Kill Crabs 4 Fun sampled Buck ‘Em Down by Captain Geek & DJ Noise. Captain Geek & DJ Noise from DJ Battlecat’s East Side Tag Team production crew produced Kill Crabs 4 Fun in 1993 for the Bangin’ On Wax album. Of course, Kill Crabs 4 Fun is another leftover from Bangin’ On Wax.
Kill Crabs 4 Fun is about how Bloody Mary kills Crabs (Crips) for fun. She kills Crip gang members just for the fun of it. Kill Crabs 4 Fun is another diss track aimed at killing Crips. Bloody Mary and Ms. Bonnie are all over Kill Crabs 4 Fun as Moe-B and Big Stretch are.
Fruit Town Brim Shit was a leftover cut from the 1993 Bangin’ On Wax album. This track was a track that did not make it onto the final cut of the Bangin’ On Wax album. Fruit Town Brim Shit features Fruit Town Brims (Bloods) gang members Big Stretch, Lady S, Ms. Bonnie, Moe-B, Finders, and Stretch. The beat gets overall annoying and repetitive after a while. It seems wholeheartedly that most of the rappers were not putting forth their best effort when rapping on this track.
Piru Luv 2002 is mainly Piru Luv revisited. Only this remix of Piru Luv features Los Angeles rapper Big Stretch and Big Wy (then Red Rag). Now for those who didn’t know, Bloody Mary made her national debut on the music video and song "Piru Love" in 1993 along with rappers Lil Stretch, Redrum781, and CK (Lil Leak). She was featured on most of the first Bangin On Wax album.
Crabs We Wreck is another where Bloody Mary uses a faux Jamaican patois accent when rapping. Crabs We Wreck is another leftover from Bangin’ On Wax. Game of Mackin is the sample used on Crabs We Wreck. It’s another Crips diss track. Bloody Mary, Ms. Bonnie, Finders, and Big Stretch are all over Crabs We Wreck.
Put Dat On Da (B.) is Blood gang posse cut featuring Bloody Mary, Ms. Bonnie, Finders, Tiny Stretch, Moe-B, and Big Stretch. Put Dat On Da (B.) uses a Captain Geek & DJ Noise sample.
Murder 1 (On A Punk Mutha Fucka) features Tweedy Bird Loc and Bloody Mary. Murder 1 (On A Punk Mutha Fucka) came from Tweedy Bird Loc’s 187 Ride By album in 1992. Break Ah Mutha Fucka Down came from the She’s Dangerous album.
Bloody Mary - Day Of Resurrection is basically b-sides and leftovers from other albums and tracks. Many are recycled verses over recycled beats. Most tracks came from the following albums such as Nini X - She’s Dangerous, Tweedy Bird Loc - 187 Ride By, Tweedy Bird Loc - No Holds Barred, and Bloods & Crips - Bangin’ On Wax. There is really nothing too special about this album. If you were looking for or at least expecting 100% new material from this album, then you’re out of luck. So don’t feel shortchanged if you were expecting much. So if you are a collector, buy it. Day of Resurrection is perfect for Dangerous Records collectors.
Now the Bloody Mary - Day Of Resurrection album is very hard to find to the point you will be lucky enough to find the album on eBay. Sales for this album run in the hundreds (over $100) when sold on eBay. That’s how rare this album is. So if you are a music collector or just a fan, buy it!
*Tracks 2, 4, 5, 6, 14, and 17 can only be found on this release and nowhere else.
*Track 15 was lifted from Ronnie Rons' Gangsta-Lation Album.
*Bloody Mary is Nini X.
I rate this album, Day Of Resurrection, 3/5***.
