Behind the short history of the Delaware State Hospital - RE/RW building.

The RE/RW building for Delaware State Hospital was established by the county in the late 1800s and was established as a county hospital. The RE/RW building was taken over by the state when Delaware State Hospital was taken over by the state in 1889. The RE/RW building used for alcohol rehabilitation from 1889 to 2005.

The paintings in the hallways indicate that the building was used for alcohol rehabilitation. A map of the campus identifies it as the "RE/RW Building". The building was a clinic for alcohol rehabilitation much of the 20th century.

In 2005, the RE/RW building for the Delaware State Hospital was abandoned due to its unsafe flooring, air quality, and asbestos making the building unsafe for patients. The unsafe flooring led this building to be shut down. The extreme air quality inside caused mold to be spread in certain places in some areas across this building.

All of the abandoned buildings on the Delaware State Hospital campus were torn down at the end of February 2007. There is now nothing left at Delaware State Hospital. This was part of the Delaware State Hospital expansion plan.

Delaware State Hospital - RE/RW building was located at 1900 North Dupont Highway, New Castle, Delaware, US 19720.
