The Winston Tunnel was once the longest railroad tunnel in Illinois. The tunnel spanned over 2,493 feet long. The tunnel was located on the CGW main line of 152 miles. Now it's an abandoned tunnel that has been forgotten by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources alone in the woods near Galena, Illinois. Winston Tunnel was built in 1888 and closed in 1972.
