La Feliz Motel is one of the many forgotten motels of Corpus Christi, Texas. Not much history is known about this motel. This news article will explain and explore the history behind La Feliz Motel.
La Feliz Motel originally started out as a series of apartments which were called La Feliz Apartments in 1960 on a 0.3 acre lot size north of the city. The rent was $75 a month. This apartment complex sported a series of remodeled kitchenettes. Each unit had 1-2 bedrooms and 1 kitchen. Each unit was equipped with air condition. Corpus Christi Caller-Times referred to this apartment complex as La Fellz Apartments. Their phone number was 512-832-5236. (Ref: The Corpus Christi Caller-Times, Page 41, October 28, 1971)
The layout for this apartment complex was a generic combination of multi-family dwellings with nearly each unit being the same size. These apartments were wall to wall as described in the Corpus Christi Caller-Times. (Ref: The Corpus Christi Caller-Times, Page 41, October 28, 1971)

La Feliz Apartments was know for having a friendly environment, having large bedrooms, and being the least expensive. The owner put an advertisement in the Corpus Christi Caller-Times looking for renters. The Corpus Christi Caller-Times ran an advertisement which went under the heading of “AVAILABLE IMMEDIATELY! VERY LARGE 1-2 BEDROOM APTS. LEAST EXPENSIVE MOST FRIENDLY”. (Ref: https://newspaperarchive.com/corpus-christi-times-may-26-1972-p-56/)
La Feliz Apartments would later turn into a motel which would be called La Feliz Motel. This motel boasted 9 rooms, a private bath, and a kitchen area. Rooms were rented by the day, week and monthly. The rates were $22.50 weekly and $75 monthly.
Now La Feliz Motel was prone to constant flooding due to the close proximity being located along the coast line of Corpus Christi Bay. The place would get flooded after high tide. Hurricane weather would often hit this place first.
Frequent water leaks would occur on Seagull Boulevard along La Feliz Motel as semi trucks often travel down that narrow street. Most of the water leaks occurred during the month of August. Hundreds of gallons of water spilled onto the La Feliz Motel property. This flooded the front entrance. As soon as crews would get one leak fixed, another one would start.
