2 Black 2 Strong MMG - Doing Time On Planet Earth album review

2 Black 2 Strong MMG - Doing Time On Planet Earth is hardcore rap and hip hop at its finest. Queens rap group 2 Black 2 Strong released a politically album with socially conscious themes often considered too realistic and hard for mainstream audiences militant, angry MCs make the album interesting with their black power oriented lyrics and militant attitude. This is true political rap. The music is still relevant today.

Relativity dropped the ball by not promoting this album properly by not giving it the recognition this album deserved. Relativity is not all at fault. This album was released during a transition period in hip hop/rap where gangsta rap and pop rap where taking over, which lead this album to get overlooked as many albums did during that time. Hip hop was moving from political rap to more street-level gangsterism. This group was one of the obscure collectives coming from New York City (NYC). Unfortunately 2 Black 2 Strong vanished from the political rap scene.

Burn Baby Burn is their politically conscious song that garnered them controversy due to the subject matter based on flag-burning. Burn Baby Burn addresses the issues of flag burning. Chuck D of Public Enemy makes an appearance here and there.

In this song, 2 Black 2 Strong is against the colors of the American flag. So they go on a tirade to burn the American flag. The group does not believe the colors of the American flag represents them. To them, the colors of the American flag represent oppression, greed, hate, bigotry, and corruption. This was their controversial song which included the line, "Fuck the red, white and blue”.

You can feel the anger from 2 Black 2 Strong as they get bot socially conscious and politically conscious. Their anger is directed at oppression of which the American flag represents.

Now this song came from their early 1991 album/EP entitled Burn Baby Burn. The song was so controversial to where Relativity's tape manufacturer refused to press promotional copies due to the line "Fuck the red, white and blue”. Relativity's tape manufacturer flat out said no due to the offensive language used in such context.

Iceman Cometh is about police brutality. This song tends to unfairly generalize about law enforcement. Its point about excessive force is well taken.

Skulls frightening accurate song about the crack epidemic. The frightening accuracy is terrifying. This song tends to fairly generalize on the crack epidemic. The bad crack epidemic is as the plague itself. Crack tends to hit urban areas of inner cities before it hits the suburbs.

2 in a Room - Wiggle It album review

The album Wiggle It by Manhattan hip house duo 2 in a Room is an album that will surely want to make you jiggle, wiggle, and giggle due to its upbeat hip house sound and nature. Mix dance and hip house and the result is this album. This album had only a couple of songs that were considered to be charting hits such as Wiggle It and She's Got Me Going Crazy.

Manhattan hip house duo 2 in a Room released an important single about the dangers of drugs and alcohol called Wiggle It in 1991 on a vinyl single. The single was a charting hit on the BillBoard in many countries specifically the United Kingdom and Australia. Wiggle It got a lot of plays by club DJs in New York and Chicago. The song reached #3 on the BillBoard in Ireland and was #1 in US Dance.

The song Wiggle It will make you jiggle, wiggle, and giggle. The song Wiggle It will want to make you dance as well. Although Wiggle it is about dancing and partying, the song contains a serious message which encourages people not to drink and drive. 2 in a Room urges people who are drunk or under the influence of alcohol to dance it off temporarily. They want those who will be driving to stay sober of course.

The lyrics have a serious message encouraging people not to drink and drive. Read below.:

Let your body go as you listen
Let it flow to your system
It'll take control of your mind
And make you move your behind

But don't drink it,
If you're driving
Word 'em up, y'all
I ain't jiving

She's Got Me Going Crazy was a minor hit that was not as well received as the song Wiggle It was but managed to become a minor success on the BillBoard charting at #72 in US Dance.

The song She's Got Me Going Crazy is about a woman who drives a man crazy. Throughout the duration of this song is where the woman drives the man crazy. He doesn’t know what exactly to do with her. She drives him crazy to the point where he ends up leaving her.

Body To Body is a song which has sound similar to what you would hear from Soul II Soul. Soul meets dance music on the song Body To Body.

Blinded by Rage - Mirth, Mayhem and a Better Tomorrow album review

Blinded by Rage - Mirth, Mayhem and a Better Tomorrow is a thrash metal album every metal head will surely enjoy for the years to come. Half of this album has anti-religion songs that go against oppression set out by the righteous. The album has the raw sound you would expect to hear from a metal album. Dark sounds, anti-religion, going against oppression, angst, dealing with your inner emotions, and such. All these songs have a theme of negativity.

Forces of Misery is about how religion prey on weak souls and destroys life altogether. The song itself is very anti-religion.

The twisted minds of religious people who feed on the blood of innocents. They prey on weak souls. Through centuries of oppression, wars, crusades, and inquisitions is how religious people controlled nearly everything and how religion has ruined humankind.

Somewhere along the line is where religion turned into hate. This is explained in the first chorus.

(first chorus)
the blood of Christ is tainted
the tomb of Mohammed - defiled
religion turned into hate
by forces of misery

Somewhere along the line is where religion turned into hate by the forces of misery. The tomb of Mohammed has been defiled and the blood of Christ is tainted by forces of misery.

Human history is rife with holy wars. Romans killed Christians. Christians slaughtered Muslims. Inquisition turned the church into the enemy of the people. Religion turned to tyranny. One example of how religion turned tyranny is bombing of abortion clinics.

Perspectives is a song about how perspectives change when you’re in a hole.

You live life in vain because the past has haunted you. Loss = pain. Latent = intent. Now you lament on your past. Now things couldn’t be worse. You are not event free to roam the Earth. Perspectives change when you’re in a hole.

Absolution is a song about fighting with the devil. Yes, it’s another anti-religion song.

The devil tries to dismount you and emotionally cripple you. He discovered somehow that you are very weak emotionally. You curse him as you pistol whip his face. His teeth are sent flying all over the place. Only his death will set you free. Heather screams for mercy, “Please spare me.”

Absolution is what you crave. You need absolution from all that torments you. Absolution will set you free. Yet a trial begins after you kill the devil.

The judge asks you to plead guilty or innocent of a crime you are being charged with. Suddenly you feel utter betrayal of a fellow being by intention infliction of suffering. The judge charges you guilty as charged. The sentenced is passed. You have to antone for your crime.

Imperialist Inferno is a parody of the 70s hit Disco Inferno. The song incorporates much sampling with remixes and instrumentals. This parody of Imperialist Inferno is quite militant as it goes against the grain of imperialism.

No Blood For Oil is an anti-war song which calls out private corporations for profiting off of war so they can sell and buy oil. 2 Black 2 Strong MMG calls out the government and private corporations for having soldiers die for oil. The song has a much similar tone to Jello Biafra - Die For Oil Sucker.

Phantom, Rocker & Slick album review

Phantom, Rocker & Slick are one of the very few rock bands in the 80's who attempted to think outside the box. This album is not the typical heavy metal album or an average glam rock album. 50s rockabilly meets 80's hard rock on this album of theirs. It’s a breath of fresh air for those who are looking for something new to listen to. It’s a breath of fresh sound from Staten Island. Guitar hero Earl Slick is on this album.

Hollywood Distractions is about the good old days of dating in Hollywood, California. The old time flames flare up in this song with New York backstreet ways. Bless those West Coast wind-up days of Hollywood distractions. No the song is not about being caught up in the celebrity lifestyle of Hollywood, California.

It is hard to find romance back home. So the band went to Hollywood. You don’t get a second chance very often. There is no second chance at finding a partner for romance. So if you do get a second chance at finding a partner for romance, keep them. The past don’t matter as the good old days are gone.

Well Kept Secret tells a story of a local football hero who saved a girl’s life. However there is a twist in the song as this football player commits crimes during and throughout this song. He ended up killing someone. An old man gets jailed for a crime he didn’t commit as the football player gets away with the crime. It is a well kept secret nobody expected.

There are trophies on the mantelpiece and pennants on the wall from previous football games. He was a local star on field and off. Success never spoiled him. He never lost his touch. He saved a little girl’s life. Headlines of the newspapers called him Superman.

The football hero hid away his troubled dreams. His actions were not real. He woke with bloodstained hands. He began to sharpen his knife. After that he goes out to kill someone. Scenes of untold pain remain hidden from the public eye.

He scored the winning touchdown during a football game when they found the man to blame. Now an old man is sitting in a jail cell for a crime he didn’t commit. This young man keeps his secrets of crimes he won’t admit to doing. It is a well kept secret nobody expected or suspected.

Runnin' from the Hounds is filled with adventure and action. The song tells the tale of an escaped convict on the run after he escaped from jail. The setting of this song takes place in Louisiana.

A dead’s man kinfolk are tracking down an escaped convict who escaped from jail. Judge and the jury waiting in the town. Footprints on the river bank cover up his trail. Ain’t no way he’s gonna spend another night in jail. He is runnin’ from the hounds. He will never will be found as he is hiding in the marshes.

It starts to rain. Now he is running from the pouring rain breathing hard and fast. He heard a shotgun blast. The kinfolk must be catching up to him. He can’t stop to rest. The scene is like a shootout from the Wild, Wild West. Bullets fly right by.

Sheriff on the radio is calling for backup. The escaped convict is heading for the interstate as he escapes the swamps. He is still runnin’ from the hounds in Louisiana.

Men without shame is a song that spawned the band a moderate buzz single which was well favored in the United States and United Kingdom. For a short time, the song reach #43 on the BillBoard Charts, but somehow fell out afterwards.

There’s a certain breed of men who feel the need to put people in their place. They are not a bad bunch of guys. Don’t tell them no lies. So stay off their case. Don’t try to please them or tease them as they know the game. They are men without shame.

People within angle never should tangle with the men who kill with words. You don’t stand a chance.

Sing for Your Supper has a vibe much similar to Aerosmith - Dream On. The song is very similar to an aftermath of a post-apocalyptic society or an abandoned city. You can help but feel a vibe of negativity when you listen to this song.

Children in the Southern United States are demanding a better trade in the job market. They also demand better food too. They are tired of living in a cycle of endless poverty. The following lyrics below explain how the children in the Southern United States are demanding a better trade in the job market.:

In the south the kids are screaming
They demand a better trade
The heroes hide in penthouses
The bills have all been paid

Portions of lyrics from this describe the negativity and the aftermath of a post-apocalyptic society. Take these lyrics for example.:

In the bars there are no women
The survivors change their names
All that’s left is shattered windows
And a grocery store in flames

On the ranch there are no cowboys
Things have changed, you’ve been away
The hills reveal their silence
The cops demand more pay

In the school there’s no laughter
The lesson can’t be learned
The reasons seem to whisper
Something lost means nothing earned

On the street there are no children
All fair maidens stay inside

No Regrets is a song about living with no regrets and letting the good times roll. The song has a good carefree vibe. Time’s a wasting as the road’s getting blurry. So please hurry. The sun bleeding right through the shadows as morning shines and the nighttime fades. You should be gone and enjoying the good times. Put away your regrets for now because tonight you’ll have no regrets. Be carefree and grab a bottle. You’ll have no regrets.

Avril Lavigne - Rock N Roll single review

Avril Lavigne’s Rock N Roll single from 2013 was highly slept on by the music industry and the general public. Avril Lavigne went back to her rebellious punk rock roots on this single of hers.

Rock N Roll has some fun, rebellious anthems. The song is about care-free non-conformance where Avril sing-shouts lyrics in her usual cadence and piercing voice. Her usual piercing falling cadence shimmers throughout the song. Chords from the guitar are electronically synchronized to a full drum kit.

This rock song is similar to classic rock anthems such as I Love Rock ‘N’ Roll, Detroit Rock City, I Wanna Rock, and We Will Rock You. The song itself pays homage and tribute to the genre of rock music hence the appropriate title.

Avril does not care about conforming to current trends of music set up by the corporate executives who control the music market. She does not care about conforming up to the standards of mainstream hipster music. Verse 1 sums up everything about Avril not conforming to current trends of music.

[Verse 1]
I don't care about my makeup
I like it better with my jeans all ripped up
Don't know how to keep my mouth shut
You say, "So what?" (What)
I don't care if I'm a misfit
I like it better than the hipster bullshit
I am the motherfuckin' princess
You still love it

You know what she’s really all about. She reminds us that she is still the princess of rock ‘n roll. It was due to her success int he early 2000s that she had earned this nickname. Avril Lavigne is the Punk Rock Princess. She stays true to what she does. She does not care about reputation unlike everybody today.

The chorus is full of rebellion as hinted in the lyrics.

[Chorus]
When it's you and me
We don't need no one to tell us who to be
We'll keep turning up the radio
What if you and I
Just put up a middle finger to the sky?
Let 'em know that we're still rock n roll

Avril Lavigne went back to her rebellious punk rock roots on the song Here’s To Never Growing Up. It's about being young and wanting to be young forever while living in the moment by having fun. The song itself is a nostalgia trip. Its music video on YouTube received millions of views online. Here’s To Never Growing Up was a hit and the lead single.

This song has a moderate tempo of 82 bpm and is composed almost entirely in the key of F major. This song has a moderate tempo similar to Complicated from 2002. The song has a “punch” in its sound due to constant usage of a kick drum. Guitars and drums are the melody.

At the beginning is where Avril references English rock band Radiohead. Ironically Radiohead is also featured in the chorus. At the chorus, she continues "We'll be running down the street yelling kiss my ass"

Avril declares her celebration to never maturing in the second verse. It is clearly a "celebration of being forever young".:

This is who we are
I don't think we'll ever change
They say 'Just grow up.’
but they don't know us
We don't give a fuck!
And we’re never gonna change

The songwriting on Hush Hush conveys such deep meaning as the song emits a barrage of feelings. Feelings such as regret, anger, hopefulness, and desperation. Hush Hush is a piano driven ballad that is an original song written by Avril Lavigne herself.

The song starts with a calm vibe where Avril whispers “hush” repeatedly. She seems to be trying to calm someone down or maybe even herself. This could have been after a fight or a breakdown. The chorus is full of pain and regret. She whispers in a peaceful and comforting way “hush hush” planing to ease the sorrow along with the mood.

Verse 2 is where Avril is now filled with regret.

[Verse 2]
When I try to forget you
I just keep on remembering
What we had, it was so true
And somehow we lost everything
Hush hush, now (Hush hush, now)

The chorus is also filled with pain, sorrow, and regret as well.
