The Last Stop documentary deemed shocking and controversial.

For those who didn't know, director Todd Nilssen filmed and directed a shocking and controversial documentary called The Last Stop which was released in 2017. The Last Stop was a documentary which exposed Elan School. A former infamous controversial private coeducational behavior modification program located in Poland Springs, Maine.

Many seriously emotionally disturbed youth (primarily adolescents) who were students of the infamous controversial private coeducational behavior modification program called “Elan School” were shown throughout the documentary. These students were sent to this behavior modification program because they were using drugs or becoming criminals. They were headed to prison or their deathbeds. Elan School was used as a last resort for behavior modification.


Some of you might remember a therapeutic circle where children were being yelled. That was what was called a “haircut”. If you break one of the rules or your attitude isn’t right, you get yelled at in a circle with the other “residents”/“students”. If you want to act like a baby, you get screamed at. If you want to act like a mature adolescent, you get talked to.

Incidents of physical and verbal abuse in the guise of "treatment" were made public in 1975 and 2001 in the Hartford Courant. Elan School was approved by the State of Maine Department of Educational and Cultural Services on an annual basis. This means that once a year the State of Maine has the right to grant or deny approval for Elan School. Many of these facilities have had complaints filed against them it is the nature of the business. Elan School is no exception.

Elan School accepted adolescents who have exhibited repetitive uncontrollable behaviors. These behaviors may include vagrancy, trespassing, substance abuse, family conflicts, truancy, and sexual promiscuity.

These students place blame on others for things that are their own responsibility. They also fill their lives with dishonesty.


Psychotropic drugs were not used to control their behavior as these children and sound adults who were students did not benefit from psychotropic drugs. Ironic enough since a minority of them were already using drugs. They are teenagers who have victimized themselves and others.

The documentary explored the lack of mental health care in the United States of America for juvenile psychiatry and adult psychiatry. Many seriously emotionally disturbed youth were shown throughout the documentary. Parents would send their children to Elan School and spend than $20,000 a year to send them there for treatment.


Elan School was no stranger to controversy and did not shy away from controversy. The school made headlines in newspapers throughout the Northeastern United States.

Elan School was blamed of the murder of 15-year-old Martha Moxley. Prosecutors believed Elan School founder and chairman Joseph Ricci overheard Michael Skakel admit involvement in the murder of Martha Moxley while Michael Skakel was a resident of Elan from 1978 to 1980. However Judge Maureen Dennis ruled that there was enough sufficient evidence to prosecute Michael Skakel, but had yet to rule on whether the case should be transferred from juvenile court to adult court.

Several years ago in 1980, there was a conspiracy against Joseph Ricci by Depositors Trust and state officials.  Ricci sued Depositors Trust (now Key Bank) for $41 million because the bank had revoked his $1 million line of credit based on unfounded rumors from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) that he had links with organized crime.

The Clint Eastwood film “True Crime” is a movie that is filled absolutely stunning work. The orchestra arrangements were conducted beautifully by producer Johnny Mandel. Larry Bunker contributed to some of the film scores for this movie as well as producing songs.

Clint Eastwood plays the role of a character that is undercover journalist that to prove a death row inmate's innocence just hours before his execution. The way he played his role as a character who was a journalist was charismatic despite being for two months since he was an alcoholic. That was the eerie part of his character. But that is not surprising about the characters he plays in his movies.

One interesting aspect about this movie is the quotable dialogue. Especially this quote. "Frankly I don't give a rat's ass about Jesus Christ and I don't care about justice in this world, or the next." Clint Eastwood delivers that line perfectly.  

Why Should I Care by Diana Krall is the highlight track that is on Clint Eastwood film “True Crime”. This work is absolutely stunning! The song highlights Diana Krall’s breathtaking vocals. The orchestra was arranged by notable producer Johnny Mandel which he also conducted as well. Larry Bunker performs the vibes.

Michael Mixerr’s thoughts on the Happy Gilmore movie.

Happy Gilmore is one of those movies that makes you more retarded than you already are. The movie resorts to lowbrow slapstick comedy humor. Now we all know that slapstick humor is the oldest form of comedy in the book. That is nothing new particularly with his movies. Not surprising since Adam Sandler movies are known for their stupidity. Yet somehow Adam Sandler managed not to make his audiences cringe. Although one could consider this movie to be cringeworthy.

Adam Sandler playing the role of a character who is hot-tempered hockey player that can hit a golf ball 400 yards is plain absurd and unrealistic. Not to mention cringeworthy. But one can expect that nonetheless from Adam.

The production company used the same cast and crew from Adam Sandler’s other movies. For example, Ben Stiller appeared in the movie. Ben Stiller appeared as a borderline nemesis archetype/frenemy. David Spade from The Wrong Missy appeared in the movie. Heck even long time actor Rob Schneider appeared as a character in the movie although his role was the role of a minor character. Rob Schneider is well known for playing of role of minor characters in He’s appeared in several of Adams other movies over the years.

This is one of those 2/5** movies that you would find in a bargain bin at Walmart or some other store. In other words Happy Gilmore is a bargain bin movie. Honestly you should save your money by streaming this movie instead of purchasing this movie.

Snoop Dogg and Puff Daddy announce possible partnership.

In recent news lately, Snoop Dogg and Puff Daddy made a shocking announcement when they had  announced a possible partnership with potential for the future.

Snoop said, “Now we can do what we want to do Death Row and Bad Boy. We been doing it, Come on, Puff. I’m going to put it in the air quit playing with me. I’m going to put it in the air, nigga. We left niggas hanging.”

Fans wonder what new ideas they will both bring to both infamous labels. This is controversial given the history of tumultuous beef between both labels. Bad Boy Records and Death Row Records changed hip hop/rap forever. Snoop had been hinting at a future Bad Boy/Death Row collaboration. Possibly sometime within this year of 2022. It will be a history-making moment if Snoop Dogg and Puff Daddy manage to get an official collaboration done between the two labels

Surviving Compton: Michel'le’s life in a biopic.

Surviving Compton: Dre, Suge & Michel'le is the autobiography/biopic movie based on R&B songstress Michel'le Toussaint. The movie is based on the life of a woman who held on to her dream through poverty, domestic violence, and drugs. In with it came the fame and betrayal from men she loved, dated, “married”, and trusted.

Michel’le did a great job performing on all of the songs which were used in the movie of hers. Her vocals are still on point. Her voice is just as powerful as ever.

Michel'le was truly in love with Dre. She had no limit to the love for him. Her love for him during that time was unconditional. Dr. Dre knew that he had all of her love. However this all was not true he had constantly abused her. So did Suge Knight.

There were times Michel’le remembered where she had to fight just to hold her head up. There were times when her friends tried to make a fool of her. Things her heart attack that people just couldn’t see. Some said she was hopeless. Strong willed she was. That’s why she is still standing here today. Michel'le is finally at a happy point in her life. Her past life is nothing like the one she knows. She hopes for a bright future. Michel’le is just trying to make something out of her life. There is no easy answer for that. She has to keep moving on in life.

Emotional scenes in Hot Boyz movie discussed by Michael Mixerr.

Hot Boyz is one of the highly known movies produced by No Limit Films and directed by Master P. The film is filled such heartbreaking emotional moments. Such emotional moments which went sorely overlooked.

For example the Porsha song called Nothing Stays The Same which played at the end of the Hot Boyz movie when Kool was reminiscing about the memories of his girlfriend Lashawna whom he had lost. It's foolish to hide the pain because nothing can shield from the rain. We all know nothing stays the same. So stop holding it in. You know the saying, “Nothing stays the same on a lonely road.”  

The aggressive vivid scene Snoop Dogg scene was another example of an emotional moment in the Hot Boyz film. C-Dawg caught Pee Wee getting high and snorting cocaine from their own supply of cocaine. Pee Wee fails to C-Dawg why he was sniffing cocaine which leads us to a transition scene where Kool is kicking back lounging. Kool mentioned to C-Dawg that Pee Wee’s mother died a month ago in a nursing home. Hardly anyone mentions that scene when Hot Boyz is brought up.

Societal value of the movie Ben not accepted.

The rat in the movie Ben isn’t welcome or accepted by many as he is constantly searching for a place to find acceptance and approval in society. People don’t understand the value of Ben though. Yet the rat that is loved by an abused child and the rat returns his love. The movie captures all of those deep emotions. There is something about the beauty of a boy and his rat that gets people emotional. Sadly society has not valued or accepted the movie Ben as a whole.

Ben was a reflection of Danny Garrison. Ben was his only friend since Danny Garrison was a social outcast who did not have any friends. Now Ben protecting him from bullying inflicted by his own peers. Not to mention heart condition.

The film's theme song "Ben" is performed by Michael Jackson during the final scene and ending credits. This was also a song mainstream society did not accept despite being a No. 1 pop hit.  

Ben is the best song written about a rat in the history of music. No one can sing a song about a rat the way Michael Jackson can and could. Even at such a young age, Michael had such an amazing voice. Michael was a prodigy. Michael Jackson captured deep emotions at a young age where most child singers don’t until they’re adults.

The song Ben is about a rat that is loved by an abused child, which is Michael Jackson, and the rat returns his love. The rat, Ben, isn’t welcome or accepted by many as he is constantly searching for a place to find acceptance and approval. People don’t understand the value of Ben though.

The reason why he recorded and narrated this documentary is because he felt the movie industry paid no attention to the plight of Flint, Michigan. At least during the time and overall.

Maybe it was because Michael Moore's Roger And Me documentary was giving Flint a bad reputation at the time. This was in the mid 80s mind you. Flint at that time was gaining notoriety for a major violent crime center. Flint had been previously known for its capitol industry but was quickly gaining notoriety for being the murder capital of the United States at the time.  The crime rate in Flint during that time (at least in the 1980s) was one of the highest on the continent. Money Magazine had rated Flint one of the worst places to live in America in 1989. That also brought another blow to the city of Flint.

However crime in Flint had already been growing prior to the year 1989. Crime in Flint was at its peak in 1987, 1988, 1991, and 1994. Flint's economy has been going down since 1987 possibly even earlier than that.

At that time deindustrialization in the Midwestern part of the United States was happened at rapid rate. Flint was facing those same problems as the rest of the Midwest and North. It all started with the downsizing and outsourcing of GM in 1987. Ever since GM closed down their automobile manufacturing plants in Flint, the effect on Flint was absolutely devastating! That brought another blow to the city of Flint.

Michael Moore also talks about how rough Flint really is with all the violent crime, drugs, and political corruption. Crime in Flint continues to grow. Flint has gotten worse year by year. The city continues to fall into decline and a de-industrialized state. Flint keeps people trapped in an impoverished environment. It is so hard to escape the drugs and violence that plague Flint. Nearly more than half of the city of Flint is on welfare and food stamps. Flint does have homelessness problems and housing issues as well.

Cocaine had swept the streets of Flint like an epidemic as the drug was everywhere in Flint at that time. Cops, politicians, and teachers were using crack. Parents were having crack babies.

Things have changed. Billy has undergone several behavioral interventions and therapy sessions. Some of his phases eventually passed. The lobotomy and shock therapy never happened. As a result, Billy Calhoun now receives 24 hour care around the clock at South Beach Psychiatric Hospital and is heavily medicated by fair amounts of drugs. He is well cared for.

The self-injurious behaviors and self-destructive behavior is still evident and present. Just to a level that lets him function to the point where he can function to be not as aggressive or dangerous as he once was earlier in his lifetime.

As a child, Billy was suffering from severe autism. His severe autism caused him to act out in an aggressive manner as he was dangerous around others and himself. His family could no longer handle him or his dangerous destructive behavior. His self-injurious behaviors worsened as he acted more aggressive towards others.

At the age of 7, he was placed in a state institution called Sagamore Children’s Hospital. His mother, Mary Calhoun, saw him every week until she died.

A news article from the Boston Globe referred to Bill Calhoun as an abusive child. He had reportedly beaten himself on every part of his body. (Ref: Boston Globe, Page 67, Wednesday, May 4, 1983)

“A self-abusive child, he has beaten himself on every part of his body, torn at his body with his hands and smashed his head to the point of detaching his retina. You'll hear his mother ask tearful, painful questions. "Why is this child? Why did God create him? That's all I've ever wondered. You know - what does it mean? It has to have a meaning. Everything has a meaning. What is his meaning? Why is Billy here? I don't know." This may be the most shocking segment.”

During his stay as a patient at the Sagamore Children’s Hospital, Billy underwent intense therapy while being in restraints for 2 ½ years long. Every 2 to 3 hours, Billy would be “walked” by orderlies around the hospital so his muscles would not atrophy or deteriorate. Billy had attacked hospital staff and orderlies in the past. Most of the time he was strapped to his bed at the time. He was in a state of constant panic being unaware of what was going on around him. When he was 19, he was transferred over to South Beach Psychiatric Care Center in Brooklyn, New York. During his stay as a patient at the Sagamore Hospital, his self-injurious behaviors worsened as acted more aggressive towards staff. Every 2 to 3 hours, Billy would be “walked” by orderlies around the hospital so his muscles would not atrophy or deteriorate. Billy had attacked hospital staff and orderlies in the past as described in the documentary. Most of the time he was strapped to his bed most of the time during the filming session for this documentary. While at Sagamore Children’s Hospital, Billy underwent intense therapy while being in restraints for 2 1/2 years long. 


Billy Calhoun is still alive and is now at the age of 53. Things have changed. Billy has undergone several behavioral interventions and therapy sessions. Some of his phases eventually passed. The lobotomy and shock therapy never happened. As a result, Billy Calhoun now receives 24 hour care around the clock. He is well cared for. Things have changed, but we can never undo the abuse, trauma, pain, suffering, and torture he went through as a child. What happened there is beyond words.

The self-injurious behaviors and self-destructive behavior is still evident and present. Just to a level that lets him function to the point where he can function to be as aggressive or dangerous as he once was earlier in his lifetime. Billy is now heavily medicated by fair amounts of drugs.

What happened to Brian McAnally? Revisited!

For those who didn't know, Brian McAnally was featured in the 1983 documentary called Children of Darkness which was broadcasted nationally on television in the United States on PBS that same year. Richard Kotuk filmed and directed Children of Darkness documentary. Brian McAnally was the star of the documentary as he was featured all over the place in regard to this documentary. Richard Kotuk focused much of his time filming Brian McAnally due to his strange behavior inside said documentary. The Children of Darkness documentary explored the lack of lack of mental health care in America for juvenile psychiatry. Many seriously emotionally disturbed youth were shown.

To recap, Brian McAnally was first seen punching the backseat of the bus during a trip to the zoo in the beginning of the referenced documentary. He was shown with patients and attendants rode The reason why Brian was punching the backseat of the bus is because Brian had a though in his head a car located behind the bus was following him which led Brian to become paranoid which eventually led him to become physically aggressive with attendants/staff as they tried to restrain Brian McAnally in an effort to calm him down. Despite efforts to calm Brian down, his aggression escalated as his behavior escalated during an attempted restraint by attendants/staff. Brian kept screaming "I want to get off the bus! Let me off the bus!" .

His behavior episode lasted from 2 to 3 minutes. Brian McAnally was eventually secluded to an empty seat on the bus as an attempt by attendants to deescalate his behavior in order to calm him down. (Attendants relocated Brian McAnally to an empty seat during an offscreen moment.) 2 attendants helped Brian calm down as he cried in anger. As Brian cried away in anger, he eventually calmed down. He was tightly hugged and squeezed by attendants in an effort to comfort Brian.

Later on in the documentary, Richard Kotuk takes us to the scene at Eastern State School where 2 attendants have to restrain Brian McAnally by laying him down on the bed because he is trying to pull the dresser over on himself. He was tightly restrained by attendants in an effort to calm him down.


Patient Brian McAnally was a product of an unplanned pregnancy. As result of an unplanned pregnancy, Brian was abandoned by his mother when he was 2 years old. He lived with his father until he was 15. (His mother was Lois Marie McAnally and his father was James McAnally.) His father was very much involved in his life. Every weekend, he would take Brian home to his home in Kensington, Pennsylvania. He father was very much active in his life in his roll as a parent when he was alive.

Brian has had schizophrenia since he was 4 years old. Brian McAnally was admitted to Eastern State School in 1979 because his father could no longer handle him or his behavior episodes combined with his self-injurious behaviors on top of aggression. As of 1979, Brian McAnally was a patient of Eastern State School. From 1979 to 1983 is when Brian lived at Eastern State School in Trevose, Pennsylvania as a patient where he lived for 4 years. The first few years Brian did well at the school. However, a months prior to the filming of Children of Darkness, former Eastern State School childcare worker Mark Williams admits Brian has been regressing. Brian had been hallucinating more with no sense of reality.

Psychotropic drugs were used to control his behavior while at Eastern State School. Doctors suggested that Brian be heavily medicated. It was at Eastern State School that psychotropic drugs became a form of therapy for Brian. Such medicine only made his mental condition worse overtime. Former Eastern State School childcare worker John Brooks states Brian has a likeable personality and that he is mildly retarded.

Back in the day, it seemed ridiculously easy to have someone institutionalized. Brian McAnally was an example of how easy it was to have someone institutionalized back in those days. States such as New York, Pennsylvania, and Texas are examples otherwise. Texas was 50th out of the 50 states for expenditures to provide for the care of people with mental illness or mental retardation. That was in 1986.


Now here is an update about Brian McAnally and his life after Eastern State School.
In 1983 (after Brian McAnally turned 18), he was moved to a brand new group home which was located 4 blocks away from his fathers home in Kensington, Pennsylvania. Brian is thriving and doing pretty well in his group home better than he did at Eastern State School. He wasn’t as anxious or aggressive despite having been diagnosed with mania and schizophrenia earlier in his life. Later on, he was diagnosed with mental retardation.
