Menace To Society - Ink Town Posse EP review
Menace To Society’s Ink Town Posse EP is an obscure dope hip hop/rap EP which overshadowed by music coming from Detroit, Flint, Saginaw, and Grand Rapids. This EP is filled with dope hip hop cuts such Back To The Basics, socially conscious songs such as Words From The I.T.P., and love songs such as The Feeling Mutual.
Menace To Society’s Ink Town Posse EP was the only EP they released under the name “Ink Town Posse”. This was because the term “posse” was an outdated term by 1992 in the world of hip hop/rap. That’s why you see the name Menace To Society on credits to the vinyl and that’s why Ink Town Posse changed their name to Menace To Society. This obviously worked in a musical sense because the trio was able to release more albums under that name.
Ink Town Posse was gangsta rap trio from Inkster, Michigan which formed in 1988. Ink Town Posse changed their name to Menace To Society in 1992.
Words From The I.T.P. is a dope hip hop cut where members of Ink Town Posse share some knowledge and keep the public informed about social and political problems which affect their community. For example, Ink Town Posse sheds some knowledge on Words From The I.T.P. about the high death rate of Inkster. Unsurprisingly the high death rate of Inkster can attributed to drugs. Inkster had the highest murder rate caused by drugs in 1992.
One of the members share some knowledge and share awareness about the high death rate of Inkster the lyrics. Read the lyrics below to get a better understanding.:
Ink City is full of drugs
Thank the media
Do the people really care?
Stop for a minute
Or pause for a second
Put the mic in full effect
And check it!
Inkster ain’t nothing but a city worth of coroners
With a lot of violence
A very high death rate
But it’s my hometown
Ink Town Posse searches and asks for a solution as how to end crime in the middle of the song. Read the lyrics to get an understanding.
Garden Boys are on one side
Saigon is on the other
Pimp Posse is in the center
Shooting at each other
How can you stop the crime in the streets today?
Words From The I.T.P. samples N.W.A. - Gangsta Gangsta, Cybotron - Clear, Beastie Boys - Brass Monkey, and Nemesis - Get Ya Flow On.
Honestly this song sounds much older than a song that was recorded in 1992. The synths give that away. So does the bass. The song sounds like it was recorded during the late 80s. This could be the reason why the music always sounded older than it was.
Back To The Basics takes things back to the basics with simple and basic rhymes. The synths and harmonies are quite forgettable. The rhymes are too simple.
Here is an example of some simple basic rhymes used in this song. “My homeboy’s out there making paper/Struck into the girlies and the girlies catching vapors” “When you go to jail, you’ll look the other way/You caught her all day, all night”

The Feeling Mutual is a long sappy love song about mutual love. Nothing too special unless you’re interested in romantic love songs. It’s a mutual feeling.

Michelle Branch - Hotel Paper album review
Michelle Branch’s Hotel Paper album is another platinum success which came and went. This album took a different turn in terms of songwriting. This album has a theme of independence and spirituality instead being filled with just love songs as her sophomore album from 2001 was. The romantic theme was not as stretched out on this album as it was on the previous album. A change in topics is what led to this album’s success. It also helped that the album was released during pop-punk’s rising success of the early 2000s. The pop market was at a high point.
Are You Happy Now? was a moderate hit which should have been as big of a hit as Everywhere was. The song had that loud pop flair and was perfect for fans of all ages to relate to.
The song begins with a girl telling her man not to walk away and treat as if their relationship was nothing. She knows it meant a lot to both her and him. Well she knows he’s a liar and he don’t care about her. She knows it's just no use when all his lies become his truths. So she doesn’t want him to act any differently. Verse 1 discusses this fairly well.
[Verse 1]
No, don't just walk away
Pretending everything's okay
And you don't care about me
And I know it's just no use
When all your lies become your truths
And I don't care
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
He lies so much that his lies become the truth. All this is because he’s never actually told the truth. She gave up on trying to win him back. She asks him if he is happy living his life without her in it. She finds this very unfair. When he left her, he left her with nothing.
Either way, she is through playing games. Done playing his game. She discovers that he’s not a good guy as he breaks her heart all over again. Verse 2 explains the tricks and games he’s played.
[Verse 2]
You took all there was to take
And left me with an empty plate
And you don't care about it, yeah
And I am giving up this game
And leaving you with all the blame
'Cause I don't care
The girl asks him at the end of the chorus at the very end fo this song two questions. Or have I been replaced Are you happy now?
One of These Days explores the mysteries of bus stations.
Michelle watched the bus station. She saw the bus pulling on through. She don't mind saying a part of her left with left. She tried being honest but that left her nowhere. Michelle didn't notice and didn't care. So one of these days she won't be afraid of staying with him. She hopes and prays. Waiting to find a way back to him. Wouldn't that be nice?
The mystery part of this song is her wondering what things would be if he were with her. Waiting to find a way back to him. Did Michelle ask for too much? Was she not deserving one second of his touch?
Tuesday Morning is a dark depressing spiritual song. The song takes place in a past memory of a Tuesday morning.
Michelle remembers stormy weather. The way the sky looks when it's cold. So unaware of the world. She was with someone. Content with walking. Michelle asks to be driven home tonight because she does not want to feel alone to night.
Michelle was finding out who that person was in the dark of that Tuesday morning. She took their picture while they were asleep and then paced around the room. If she had known then that these things happen, would they have happened with them?
The chorus at the very end has a spiritual vibe when they are trying to find each other.
[Chorus]
Tuesday morning
In the dark
We were finding out who we are
Tuesday morning
In the dark
We were finding out who we are (Who we are)
Whole wide world
Who we are
Who we are
Whole wide world
Who we are
Finding Your Way Back is a song about giving up. Everybody's got their reason for giving up. Michelle used to get away with so much. Now she can't get away. She even thought that it was simple. When everybody's got a reason, she feels like giving up. What if that says too much?

Menace To Society – In A State Of Emergency EP review
Menace To Society – In A State Of Emergency was their second EP which was released the same year as their Ink Town Posse EP was released on vinyl. In A State Of Emergency was released on cassette only in 1992. There was never any CD pressings.

You On The Scope is a straight up gangsta rap track. Not surprising seeing as how Menace To Society were street dudes.
The Feeling’s Mutual is a long sappy love song about mutual love. Nothing too special unless you’re interested in romantic love songs. It’s a mutual feeling. This version is a few seconds longer than the one on the Ink Town Posse EP.

Michelle Branch - Broken Bracelet album review
Broken Bracelet is the debut album from Michelle Branch. Michelle Branch self-produced her debut album Broken Bracelet in June of 2000. The album is a compilation of songs she wrote as a teenager. Her debut album was released on the independent label Twin Dragon Records. The title of this album was inspired from a bracelet made given to her by a musician named Steve Poltz at a Lisa Loeb concert she had attended. Steve Poltz told her that "when it breaks, you'll be famous." Her bracelet was made by pop singer Jewel.
80%-90% of this whole album is love songs. Not surprising seeing how this is Michelle Branch we’re dealing with here. I’ll Always Be Right There and Second Chances are motivational songs with an inspirational touch to them.
I’ll Always Be Right There is a heartwarming love song about how Michelle will always be there right by your side when you need her support. The song is good for someone who is need of emotional support.
When you need someone to guide you, Michelle will be right there for you. When you're all alone and you need a light to guide you through the night. Just remember that she is here. When you're all alone and you need a friend to help you to the end, she is there for you. Just remember that she is here to hold you close and dry your tears. When you need someone to catch you when you fall, she’ll be there through it all. She’ll be there through the good times and the bad. Whenever you need her, she’ll always be right there.
You Get Me is about how Michelle is an unordinary person in a mixed up world and about how everything is okay if she has her man. Not being ordinary in a mixed up world is not exactly a bad thing. So what if you’re a little left of center or a little out of tune? Nobody is perfect.
So what Michelle is a little left of center or a little out of tune? Some people say she is paranormal. Some people say she is crazy. Who wants to be ordinary in a crazy, mixed-up world? Michelle doesn't care what they're saying as long as she has her man. Her man gets her when nobody understands. He came and took the chance by being with her.
Verse 2 gives us some imagery what goes on inside of her wild mind. You’ll never know what you'll find if you look inside her wild mind.
[Verse 2]
So what if I see the sunshine
In the pouring rain?
Some people think I'm crazy
But you say it's okay
You've seen my secret garden
Where all of my flowers grow
In my imagination
Anything goes
The song Second Chances is about second chances in life. Sometimes we get second chances. Sometimes we never make it past the first chance we get. It really makes you wonder why some things happen. When they do it really makes me wonder why it wasn't me instead of you. All it takes is a mistake to ruin a second chance. Sometimes we never see that warning.

Johnny P. - Poor Side Of Town single review
Poor Side Of Town the wholesome single from Chicago singer Johnny P. This single gave him his wholesome image in the world of R&B. The single is a blend of funk and contemporary R&B/soul uptempo dance tunes. If you enjoy New Edition, Tevin Campbell, Whitney Houston, Sam Cooke, Patsy Cline, Jackie Wilson, Patti LaBelle, Marvin Gaye, or Bobby Brown, you will definitely this single!
You may remember Johnny P as the man who sung the hooks for Do Or Die’s songs or Scarface's Smile. This man has got one of the best voices to come out of Chicago next to R. Kelly, Chaka Khan, and Miki Howard. Johnny P (John Pigram) was one of Chicago’s most underrated singers who did not get the recognition or shine truly deserved. Sadly he never received any mainstream recognition.
Johnny P covered Johnny Rivers - Poor Side Of Town on the song Poor Side Of Town. On this cover version of Poor Side Of Town is a funk soul version of that song with a mixture of funk. This version is much different from the original pop-soul version from 1966. Uncannily his voice sounds similar to an early 80s Michael Jackson. Honestly if Michael Jackson sang this song, it would have been bigger thus becoming a #1 pop hit on the BillBoard.
How can the woman Johnny is dating tell him how much she misses him? The last time Johnny saw her, she wouldn’t even kiss him. That rich guy she has been seeing must have bought her love with money. To him she was nothing more than a little plaything. It was not much more than an overnight thing. To Johnny she was the greatest thing he had ever found. It's hard to find nice things on the poor side of town.
Johnny welcomes the girl who was dating the rich guy to the poor side of town at the end of Verse 1. “So welcome back baby/To the poor side of town”
Johnny can't blame her for trying as he is trying to make a living on the poor side of town. However there is just one problem as he has got one little hang up. Johnny can’t make it without the girl he once dated.
He asks her, “Are you gonna stay now? Will you stay now? Will you stand by me, girl?” He proceeds to tell her, “They can't keep us down with you by my side. Together we can make it from the poor side of town, baby. Baby, baby.”
(So tell me how much you love me)
(Come be near to me and say you need me now)
Oh, with you by my side
This world can't keep us down
Together we can make it baby
From the poor side of town
Please Say You Want Me is a cover of The Schoolboys - Please Say You Want Me. However this version is more slow tempo than the original doo-wop version. On Please Say You Want Me, Johnny P sounds very similar to an early 80s Michael Jackson.
Johnny tells a girl to please say, “You want me to be your guy.” He has always wanted her to be his love. When there's stars up in the sky, then she will realize that she should belong to Johnny.
He has cried so much for her. Johnny hopes she does decide to be his love and to realize that her and him belong together. He tells her “Please say you want me. Please say you want me to be your love.” “Please say that you love me. Please be mine. Please say that you care for me. Then I'll stop this crying over you.”

Zoogz Rift - Son Of Puke album review
Son Of Puke was Zoogz Rift’s eighth album which was released in 1987 on the SST label. The album was a “cassette only release” not available on vinyl. Any CD pressings you see of this album are bootlegs and are not official. Those CD-r pressings you see pop up online every now and then are unofficial pressings. This Zoogz Rift album is considered a rarity that is difficult to come by.
Anyway, his whole album is 45 minutes of insane tape manipulation that will drive you out of your skull! To put things simply, the whole album is a sound collage which uses countless samples and snippets. Think synth pop from the 80s using bit crushed distorted sound blips over an electronic soundscape. Zoogz Rift sounds will drive you insane due to the maddening layers worth of instrumentation used.
His word plays and puns are quite humorous. The phrase "If we MEAT you...We will EAT you..." on the cover is clever and hilarious wordplay.
Side A is a hodgepodge of countless samples and snippets of spoken-word and instrumental bits. The mixing samples are offbeat. He plays samples from his collection all seemingly at random. The album caters more towards electronic music though.
Side B is a bootleg of The Transients album. Now The Transients appear to be some sort of smooth jazz group that was a female vocal group which covered Beatles songs on their album. The band also covers some obscure solo Beatle songs on Side B. Their cover of Revolution No. 9 is sped up and unbearable to listen to.
Zoogz claims The Transients cassette tape was rescued from a garbage bin out back behind Denny’s on Sunset Boulevard by Highway 101 in Los Angeles, California. What’s interesting is that Side B has nothing to do with Zoogz Rift but is entirely something different.

C-Stud Vill - Payback EP review
The Payback EP by C-Stud Vill has those eerie G-Funk sines and heavy bass over banging hard hitting beats for those whom are fans of rap music overall. Fans of San Antonio rap will truly appreciate the sound coming from this single. Gangsta rap at its finest.
Payback is an EP/single that legendary rapper C-Stud Vill dropped on cassette in 1995 on Mystic Records that sold over 33,000 units in its first year. The Payback EP was a demo C-Stud Vill recorded in 1990. C-Stud Vill, Papa C, Anthony Jasper Sr., and Anthony Jasper Jr. were responsible for promoting and producing this EP. Legendary songs C-Stud Vill Trick-uh-Treat (radio version and street version) and Payback are included on this EP. Songs included are Trick-uh-Treat (radio version and street version), Payback, and 1 to 10.
C Stud Vill recorded a song called Trick-uh-Treat in 1993. Papa C engineered and mastered the song. Soon enough, Trick-uh-Treat became a hit with the underground and received some radio play in San Antonio. The hit single Trick-uh-Treat exploded producing sales of over 30,000 copies alone in 1993. The single had sold over 33,000 units later that year. This success gained the attention of an independent record label called Mystic Records operated by Anthony Jasper Sr., Anthony Jasper Jr., and Papa C.
Due to his lack of knowledge of the music business, C-Stud Vill was left with an unlicensed and non copyrighted cassette master to the demo EP and lost contact with Papa C. After searching for 3 years, Papa C was found and released those full masters to the 4 song EP in 1995 soon after the EP was licensed and copyrighted. Mystic Records released the 4 song EP on cassette only. There was never any CD version.
Due to inexperience of the music business, C-Stud signed a 2 year contract with Mystic Records without a legal review of the contract which entailed the release of all his music rights to Mystic Records. Due to financial strains within the record label, C-Stud Vill was released out of his contract and given back all his music rights.
Now this tape was released back when niggaz and eses in San Antonio were trying to be in that gang shit. That’s why are so many disses and signs of disrespect towards other gangs.
The song Trick-uh-Treat is gangsta rap at its finest. Trick-uh-Treat has an eerie gangsta rap sound over grimey beats. Perfect for halloween. Real eerie sounds similar to PKO, K-Sam, Natas, and Esham.

Papa C engineered and mastered the song. Anthony Jasper Sr. and Anthony Jasper Jr. did the final mixing for this song.
The song Trick-uh-Treat is an example of gangsta rap due to the set tripping and neighborhood rivalries with enemy gangs. New Light Village is Blood territory. East Terrace Gangsters (East Terrace Gangster Crips/East Terrace Courts Gangster Crips/East Terrace Crips from East Terrace Courts) and Skyline Crips from Skyline Park are enemies with New Light Village Bloods and Blood Stone Nation (Blood Stones). Skyline Park and New Light Village have a neighborhood rivalry with each other due to gang politics.
A judge says, “Plea bargain denied. I find you, Mr. Villian, guilty of all charges. I now sentence you to 15 years in the state penitentiary.”
The East Terrace Gangsters want to fuck with C Stud Vill. He doesn’t think so. Not today. Coming straight out of the penitentiary headed straight for San Antonio, Texas. Ready to bust a cap on mark ass niggaz. Making a swift decision. He smokes a motherfucker leaving the body in a plastic bag undiscovered. He loads up the .45 to smoke a snitch. C Stud Vill is down with the Dog Gang (UNLV/New Light Village Bloods). You better think twice before fucking with C Stud Vill. Because C Stud Vill is the crazy motherfucker that took your homie’s life.
He be slanging that cocaine. Holy shit. The 5-0 is on his back tracing his path. So now he has to bail out. Niggaz get the fuck out. He is headed back to the jailhouse if he gets caught. Now he is getting his serve on as he gang bangs.
At the 2:49 mark in the song is where C Stud Vill begins to engage in sexual activity. He’s got a young bitch and an old bitch. He puts both of them to the test to see which one of them can really handle that dick. Oral sex ensues. It quickly turns into a gangbang session. He wants his dick sucked and his butt licked.
At the 3:01 mark in the song is where C Stud Vill introduces members of UNLV/New Light Village Bloods. Lil Red is in the click. Then you got C Dogg chilling with the AK. Then you got T Dogg chilling with the 12 gauge. Swerving around the corner, he sees members of East Terrace Courts Gangster Crips. Lil Red lets off a round of bullets. Shot the fucker in the head. Them niggaz straight up insane.
C Stud Vill disses neighborhoods East Terrace Courts and Skyline Park right at the very end of Trick-uh-Treat. That was diss to those neighborhoods.
Payback has a deep dark eerie underground sound with reduced treble and highly reduced bass. C Stud Vill claimed to be the craziest motherfucker out of the SA streets in the 90s with his finger on the trigger looking for fools to slip. What C Stud Vill gave people in the 90s is the payback. Another song perfect for halloween time.
The song begins with several gunshots heard from a far distance. C Stud Vill says, “I told ya’ll crab hoes.” Crabs is a derogatory term aimed at Crips. This part of Payback is aimed at East Terrace Courts Gangster Crips and Skyline Park Crips.
C Stud Vill is Mr. UNLV and he’s great. He is the craziest motherfucker in the hood. Niggaz always come to him with some of that hoe ass shit. Keep talking that shit and you’ll die that quick. C Stud Vill is quick to grab the trigger. The ex-convict is up the house. What C Stud Vill gave people in the 90s is the payback.
So now he’s kicking up some of that dust. You’ll die fucking with him. See the red color he is sporting. He set trips. C Dogg is in the car serving as the getaway driver. C Dogg laid one fucker down. He has no love for crabs. So C Dogg gave East Terrace Courts Gangster Crips ass the payback.
Niggaz on the corner are about to set trip. These motherfuckers are dressed in flue (blue). These people are either East Terrace Courts Gangster Crips or Skyline Crips. They are staring him down. C Stud Vill has the biggest get. These motherfuckers got caught slipping off guard on their block. He popped them in the chest. One them handed over gold chains and earrings. This included fresh Nikes. C Stud Vill is wearing red about to do another jack.
1 To 10 was a short (55 seconds) less than a minute freestyle rap with gangsta rap lyrics. Gangsta rap meets freestyle rap on 1 To 10. Honestly 1 To 10 was too short of a track should have been extended even longer. The song was recorded in 1993 and was recorded again in 1995.
