DJ Jubilee - Get Ready, Ready EP review

DJ Jubilee - Get Ready, Ready is an EP which Take Fo Records packaged as a single in 1997. Jubilee exploded onto the scene again with his EP Get Ready, Ready which sold over 60,000 units in the timespan of just less than a year. New Orleans bounce music can heard all over this EP. Perfect for dancing to and rocking your booty to.

The song Get Ready, Ready was the #1 club dance song in the United States back in 1997 which led this EP to become a hit record overnight. However the song did not become a hit nationally but was instead a regional hit in Louisiana despite debuting at #7 on Billboard Top 100. Still to this day, Get Ready, Ready is one of those songs that are still played at block parties and reunions across the Third Coast. Now this version is the radio version.

Get Ready, Ready uses a tempo of 99 BPM and uses the G Major key. The song is sped to a quicker rhythm in order to get people moving. Of course this made people rush to the dance floor. DJ Jubilee is the king of fast paced rhythms and upbeat songs.

Here is something for the public. You may not understand any of these lyrics if you are not from New Orleans or have ever partied in New Orleans. Hopefully you get a better understanding when you read the lyrics or listen to the song. So take a look.

Many think the lyrics in Verse 5 are referencing Magnolia Shorty - Monkey On Tha Dick or are paying homage and tribute to her. However that is not the case. Monkey on a Stick is a dance where you go up and down while gyrating.

[Verse 5]
Monkey on a stick, monkey on a stick
Monkey on a stick, monkey on a stick, yeah
Monkey on a stick, monkey on a stick, yeah
Monkey on a stick, monkey on a stick, yeah
Monkey on a stick
Now serve it, serve it

Now lyrics to Verse 3 are a reference to walking backwards and hovering like a dog. This dance requires very little leg gyrations.

[Verse 3]
Walk it like a dog
Walk it like a dog
Walk it like a dog
Aww, woof dog, woof dog
Walk it like a dog
Walk it like a dog
Walk it like a dog
Now take your dog for a walk

Lyrics to Verse 4 involve twerking. Dances in this song involve different moves.

[Verse 4]
A walk it like a serve it
Like a bounce it like twerk it like
A walk it like a serve it like a bounce, it like yeah
A walk it like a serve it
Like a bounce it like twerk it like
A walk it like a serve it
Like a bounce it like a serve

At the end of the song is where Jubilee calls for everyone to scream out their school’s name. School pride is a huge part of New Orleans culture which is considered to be very interregnal.

The song Where You Wanna Be heavily relies on the sample of Miss Jones - Where I Wanna Be Boy. Lyrics to the songs remain the same minus DJ Jubilee’s shout outs and chants. The instrumental of the original song is taken out and replaced with a twist of New Orleans bounce rap. Uptempo beats overlap both Jubilee’s vocals and Miss Jones also. The toms and snares are surprisingly thin. Jubilee adds his own lyrics throughout the song.

Here are the lyrics as what’s being said and sung. These lyrics are sung by Miss Jones from her song Where I Wanna Be Boy.

[Chorus:]
This is where I wanna be boy
This is where I wanna be boy
This is where I wanna be boy
This is where I wanna be boy

[Verse 1:]
I wanna take a moment to talk to you
'Cause I'm about to turn away and give up on our thing
But you remain a sweet reminder of where I wanna be boy
In the arms of a man that's strong and wants to give it to me
Boy I'm really trying but givin' up's so hard to do
Listening to my friends tell me I'm a fool for you
You're the type of guy that dreams are made of
I wanna be what you want when you want and whenever you need me baby

This is where I wanna be boy
This is where I wanna be boy
This is where I wanna be boy
This is where I wanna be boy

[Chorus]

Where I want to be
I'm right here and you're with me
Yeah, yeah, come on, come on

[Verse 2:]
I'm lookin for a reason and I already know the deal
Time and time again I try to ask myself
"Is my baby for real?"
Please won't you level with me?
Because I want to let you know that
I finally made up my mind
And it's where I wanna be
Right here by your side
Giving you the friend you need
You know I try
I do all I can just to make you happy
Won't make no demands on your time
And once you get it, boy
I'm sure that you will find that this is

Do the 2 Sweet is a song which female rapper 2 Sweet would perform at concerts. Do the 2 Sweet is 2 Sweet’s take on the 2 step dance. Instead of do the 2 step you do the 2 Sweet. Doing the 2 Sweet is doing a 2 step dance to an upbeat tempo at a fast pace.

Get Ready, Ready (Live In Concert) is a live performance of Get Ready, Ready during a concert. The treble significantly lower than a regular song. Treble settings on this song are practically muffled. Vocals overlap the beats.

Now this version of the song is more explicit than the original. The lyrics have expletives in them. Many of the lyrics have been altered and are much different from the original version. Look over and analyze some of the examples below.

One example is the lyrics to Verse 2. The lyrics to Verse 2 are altered but are not all that different from the original version. The original version doesn’t use the word “shit”. What you have here are obscene lyrics that have profanity in them. Below are the lyrics from the Live In Concert version.

[Verse 2]
Talk that shit, now roll with it
Talk that shit, now roll with it
Talk that shit, now roll with it
Talk that shit now
Walk it like a dog

Here are the lyrics to Verse 2 from the original version.

[Verse 2]
Talk that stuff, now roll with it
Talk that stuff, now roll with it
Talk that stuff, now roll with it
Talk that stuff now
Walk it like a dog

The lyrics to Verse 5 are more sexually explicit and definitely more provocative in nature than the original version or the radio version. Below are the lyrics from the Live In Concert version.

[Verse 5]
Monkey on a dick, monkey on a dick
Monkey on a dick, monkey on a dick yeah
Monkey on a dick, monkey on a dick, yeah
Monkey on a dick, monkey on a dick, yeah
Monkey on a dick
Now serve it, serve it

Here are the lyrics to Verse 5 from the original version.

[Verse 5]
Monkey on a stick, monkey on a stick
Monkey on a stick, monkey on a stick, yeah
Monkey on a stick, monkey on a stick, yeah
Monkey on a stick, monkey on a stick, yeah
Monkey on a stick
Now serve it, serve it

DJ Jubilee Presents The Bounce Squad ‎– Bouncing All Over The World album review

DJ Jubilee Presents The Bounce Squad ‎– Bouncing All Over The World was DJ Jubilee’s first compilation album on the Take Fo Records label released in 1999. New Orleans bounce music can heard all over this album. It’s a gangsta bounce album.

Who They Want? is Back That Thang Up (Back That Ass Up) revisited. The song has that upbeat New Orleans bounce sound.

The chorus involves twerking. Dances in this song involve different moves. Shout outs to different artists are given during the chorus. Anky is a dance where you gyrate your arms in a slow motion.

[Chorus: Bigg Ramp]
Who they want (2x)
I say them girls want Kooly ya dig
I say them girls want Kooly ya dig [Who they want (2x)]
I say them girls want Twerker
I say them girls want Twerker [Who they want (2x)]
I say them girls want Anky ya dig
I say them girls want Anky ya dig [Who they want (2x)]
I say them girls want Will ya dig
I say them girls want Will ya dig [Who they want (2x)]

DJ Jubilee yells his usual chants in the song.

[DJ Jubilee]
They must be talkin' bout me! [Who they want-2x]
They must be talkin' bout you! [Who they want-2x]
They must be talkin' bout him! [Who they want-2x]
They must be talkin' bout us! [Who they want-2x]
They must be talkin' bout me! [Who they want-2x]
They must be talkin' bout you! [Who they want-2x]
They must be talkin' bout him! [Who they want-2x]
They must be talkin' bout us! [Who they want-2x]

Cash, Cash Mo Money is a Cash Money/Take Fo collaboration where different members from both labels rap a different verse. UNLV is featured on the song. This is one the gangsta rap songs off the album. Gangsta rap on Cash, Cash Mo Money.

Bigg Ramp tells us at the beginning that we have to get our money right because no one is going to do that for you.

[Bigg Ramp]
Wusup, wusup look, man you got to get yo paper right
Get yo money right, you heard me, nobody ain't gonna do it for ya
You gotta get up and hussle, strap up and do yo thang
Bigg Ramp, Tec-9, Lil' Ya Rest In Peace Yella and
The "U" gonna do this how ya love that

Bigg Ramp lays down on a ride in them fancy car's of his. He tries to come up. He ends up paying for the car. His mother can't put the house up for sale as they are only renting. They might get evicted. The money is spent on the bad habit that Bigg Ramp has got.

He was taught right from wrong as a small child. But he was a hard head who wanted to ball. Bigg Ramp started hanging with the wrong crowd. He started runnin' with the dope fiends. His mother loves him but she kicked him out of the house they were renting. Of course he know he’ll be back in 48 hours (2 days). Bigg Ramp is coming up trying to get 5 grand ($5,000). Three heads were busted in the process.  So he can shine  like them nigga's on the end of his street.

He is often sick and tired of being broke. Bigg Ramp explains this during the chorus.

[Chorus]
Where the Cash at Mo Money Mo Money
I'm often tired of bein' broke, dog that ain't funny
I got to strap up and hit the streets
Handle my business, handle my business
What would you do if you was me
[2x]

Lil Ya of UNLV regularly flexes in his Lexus while he is on his cellular phone. 55 inch rims turning burning rubber. His click consists of niggas all about they Luci. He, too, used to dream. So he started to scheme and became rich. Moved out of town and started fuckin' Bill Gates bitch. In his bedroom is a marble dresser.

Hater's can't fade Tec-9 as he’s burnin' at 400ºF degrees. He done laid the law down. Money makes the world go round. That should be easily understood. Tec-9 is not afraid to share the history on some of his criminal past. Analyze these lyrics.: “I’ma ex-crime commiter, ex-wig splitter/No need to be bitter, I'ma hot girl go getter”

Freeze da beef uses a Mannie Fresh styled beat which is very dope. You’ll automatically think of Cash Money or Juvenile when you first hear this song. Old school New Orleans rap at its best! The South has good rap music. It’s just hard to find.

Frantix ‎– The Frantix E.P.  EP review

Frantix ‎– The Frantix E.P. is a hardcore punk EP with a thrash sound. The EP uses horrid sloppy instrumentation which those distorted unfiltered guitars. All of the horrid sloppy instrumentation makes it hard to hear or decipher the lyrics. Their lyrics are substandard and nothing to write home about. You may remember the band from their only other release called My Dad's A Fuckin' Alcoholic which was their famous first album. That was their debut album. For those who didn’t know or don’t remember, here is what Frantix was. Frantix was a punk rock band from Denver, Colorado who had a small following back in the 1980s.

Ariel - Webber Translation album review

Ariel - Webber Translation is an abstract electronic album with unique instrumentation arranged and produced by Ariel Stewart himself. His entire album has an ambient sound and nature which considerably soothing. In fact this entire album is both ambient and abstract. These songs are instrumentals. Ariel covers a couple of Andrew Lloyd Webber songs on his album which is why you can hear his influence all over the place. Most of the music was written by Andrew Lloyd Webber.

The piano you hear on this album is not an actual piano but is actually Ariel’s personal Yamaha keyboard. Ariel Stewart and Toni Stewart were responsible for production.

Ariel performs a wonderful rendition and cover of Phantom Of The Opera. The whole song is an electronic orchestra performed using Ariel’s personal Yamaha keyboard. The song uses an array of electro synths. String arrangements on this song are perfect. The organs are electronic instead of harmonic pipes.

Not only that! Ariel performs an electronic cover of Julie Covington - Don't Cry for Me Argentina. The horns on the song are laced with electric synths hence the electro sound. The mood is ambient and so is the sound. You can hear the perfection in their production. The whole song is an electronic pop opera.

Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Jesus Christ Superstar was covered by Ariel. The whole song is an electronic rock opera almost similar to his cover of Phantom Of The Opera.

Ciara - Ciara album review

Ciara’s self-titled album from 2013 is what revitalized her singing career and relaunched her back into the mainstream spotlight. This album is what made her relevant again back in the 2010s. This album is a more conceptual album which has songs that promote the empowerment of women and independence. Which is exactly why the album has strong songs such as Keep on Lookin’ and Body Party. She and LA Reid reunited on this album also.

Both Ciara and Nicki Minaj give their everything on I’m Out. Nicki Minaj gives I’m Out that New York City rap flair. Ciara encourages the ladies to get out on the floor and get sexy on the song I’m Out. Ladies, it's your song. Not even MC Hammer can touch this. It’s the ladies anthem.

I’m Out should have served as the closing track of the album due to its given title. Not so much because of its upbeat sound and nature. For some reason, Ciara and/or her label decided to place the song at the very top of the tracklist instead placing at the very bottom of the tracklist. Either way, the song is great and deserves much radio play.

Read My Lips is a catchy culinary-inspired song with a touch of sex. The song is sexually provocative in nature. Ciara tells her lover that she would rather stay at home and have a home cooked meal than going out to eat. She implies not so discreetly that she likes things on the down low. She implies not so subtly they stay home and have sex.

Verse 1 explains whoever is dating Ciara will want seconds.

[Verse 1]
So we’re stayin in tonight
Everybody’s goin out
Can we sit this one out, baby?
I got something else in mind, close the blinds, dim the lights
And you better bring your appetite
I’ll make you something real nice
If you like a lot of heat
Better come up in my kitchen, baby
Got everything that you like, why don’t you have a little taste?
Don’t let nothing, don’t let nothing go to waste

You got a home cooked meal right here. This is all for you. Ciara knows this meal is your favorite dish but you gotta savor the flavor and calm down. You ain’t leavin til you eat it all up. There’s nothing else like this in town. This is explained in the pre-chorus.

[Pre-Chorus]
Down down, but you gotta savor it, savor it
I know it’s your favorite dish
Down down, you better put yo feet up
You ain’t leavin til you eat it all up

Tonight it’s going down on the kitchen floor. There ain’t no slowing down when Ciara turns her over on, baby. That’s how it’s going down tonight. Boy I got that sugar that can make you fall down.

Ciara decided to go old school and use a sample in Body Party. Body Party samples Ghost Town DJ’s - I Wanna Be Your Lady.
