Kerri Chandler ‎– Purple Wall EP EP review

The Kerri Chandler ‎– Purple Wall EP was one of the slightly instrumental electronic garage house EPs that got overlooked during the rise of electronic music which was growing in the 90s. Kerri Chandler exhibits his raw talent and production on this EP. This time Kerri decided to go in a different musical direction by using a more disco-influenced sound. Obviously Kerri was influenced by disco was he produced the EP. The entire record is excellent!

Disco In Da Ruff uses a rough mixture of electronic, disco, and garage house. The song is an upbeat disco instrumental. Worlds In Fear uses bit of disco influence and tribal beats. The tribal beats comprise the garage house sound on Worlds In Fear. Bongos used on this song are so soothing. Two words to describe this song are soothing and repetitive.

Lasgo - ‎Some Things album review

Lasgo’s debut album ‎Some Things took electronic music by storm with the upbeat and unusual Europop sound and Eurodance sound back in 2002. This was way before Europop took over and trance music was popular with musicians such as Darude, Crazy Frog, and Sylver. The album catapulted Lasgo into international stardom with songs such as Something, Alone, and Pray. The album incorporates dance music into upbeat electronic instrumental music with the pop sound.

Peter Luts and David Vervoort were the producers for this album. Peter Luts and David Vervoort do some fantastic work on producing electronic and trance music. Both producers mange to balance out the sounds of Europop and Eurodance on the album while blending in the trance sound. Futuristic trance music is used in songs such as Something, Alone, and Pray. Peter Luts and David Vervoort produced those songs. Electronic music from Belgium never fails to disappoint people. You can expect to hear many love songs and soul searching songs on this album.

The album starts off with an instrumental that is an electronic soundscape. Intro serves as a presentation and precursor to Something. The song slowly transitions into a trance. Key and synths are angelic, breath-taking, and futuristic sound. The keys and synths copy some of the musical notes from Something.

As for the trance portion of this song, here is how the song slowly transitions into a trance. First you have the keys and synths. The keys and synth practically looped for nearly a minute. Right at the 0:56 duration mark in the song is where the song transitions into a trance. Angelic synths start to kick in here. Trance does not occur right at the 0:57 duration mark as some people will have you believe.

Something was their trademark song which became an international breakout success in 2002. The song ruled the charts for the 2002-2003 term. The song incorporates dance into electronic thus creating a Europop trance fusion with the loud electric synths, thumping heavy bass, thick beats, and angelic chorus. Something is known for its angelic chorus and loud electric synths along with the thumping heavy bass and thick beats. Most notably the angelic chorus, loud electric synths, and Evi Goffin’s vocals.

Too bad Europe does create or compose trance music such as this anymore. You don’t hardly every hear trance music like this anymore which is sad.

Something is about having strong feelings for someone. It could be someone you love, cherish, or admire. You want to hold that person in your arms and never let go of them. You need them. Your feelings for them are still strong. However there is something that they hide from you. You see it in their eyes. Is there a reason why?

Lyrics to the pre-chorus detail how you need that person by you.

[Pre-Chorus]
Hold me in your arms
Hold me in your arms
And never let me go
Hold me in your arms
'Cause I need you so

Blue uses a bit of Europop, dance, and trance. The song has some upbeat dance sounds despite the title. Of course anything that is dance or Europop is bound to be upbeat. That goes for nearly anything trance related too. Heavy synths and beats lace the track.

The song Blue is about true love which has a theme of hurt and desperation. The song shows how powerful true love is.

Nothing seems to hurt you when you are close to the person you love. No one else can touch you like the way they do. You wish a love such as this could last forever for both you and that person. However in reality such a love cannot exist. Both you can see each other feeling blue. Feeling sad and desperate for each other. Longing for one another while in love. Both of you are feeling blue. Tears keep on falling when they cry. Tears keep on falling when you cry. You still feel their love for you is true. That is the power of true love.

Alone was their second single which captured the international music market by storm due to the upbeat and unusual Eurodance sound. Alone uses a wide array of electric synths and beats over upbeat electronic and dance music. The song definitely upbeat uses electronic and dance sounds.

Alone has similar subject matter to Something. However this song has a vibe, feeling, and tone of loneliness. Loneliness is the theme for Alone.

If you had one more chance to change your life, then you would never let go of the person you love. All you friends keep telling you that you should leave that person for a while. So you must show your love to them. The short lyrics to Verse 2 explain this. “All my friends keep telling me/That I should leave you for a while/So you must show your love to me/And tell me what you feel”

You even thought that person had feelings for you too. You know you were wrong. Of course you know you’ll be by their side when they do care.

And now you stand here alone in the dark without them. There is nothing more that you would want but to be with them. Now you can’t stop thinking of them or thinking about them. You’re life is suddenly filled with darkness as you stand alone without them.

The chorus gets dark and lonely.

[Chorus]
And now I stand here alone in the dark
Without you
There's nothing more that I would like
To be with you
I close my eyes, but I can't stop
Thinking of you
And now I stand here alone in the dark
Without you

Searching is a song which calms down the mood for the album due to the trippy guitar sound and trippy nature. A flanger effect is used on the guitar notes. Flanger helps the guitar notes reverb with a slight echo. Searching has similar subject matter to Something and Alone. This song has a vibe, feeling, and tone of loneliness. However this song is not about loneliness. The song is about soul searching. Loneliness and soul searching are the themes for Searching Alone.

You ever have that feeling that you’re never going to find what you’re looking for? Well that is what the song Searching is about.

You ever have that feeling that you’re never going to find what you’re looking for? Well that is what the song Searching is about.

You’re searching for this place where you don’t need to worry about anyone or anything. Searching for this place for where you don't feel sorrow. Don't need to think about tomorrow. A little time to yourself is what you need to change your mind. You need to be on your own. This loneliness feels strong deep inside of you.

A few of the lyrics to Verse 1 use words that rhyme such as “sorrow” and “tomorrow”. Notice how the ‘-orrow’ suffix is used to make both words rhyme with each other. “Where I don't feel sorrow/Don't need to think about tomorrow”

Verse 2 gives us a clue where the loneliness lies. Verse 2 also explains how deep the loneliness really is.

[Verse 2]
I need a little time
So I can change my mind, yeah
I need to be on my own
This loneliness feels strong
Deep inside of me

You’ve been searching for a long time but you’re never gonna find what you’re looking for. This is all you need and want. Won't ask for more. You don't really mind to leave this all behind. It doesn't feel like home.

Ugh. Yes. I Wonder is yet another love song. However this is where the mood for this album gets all hyped and upbeat again. The song quickly transitions into upbeat dance and electronic music in less than 4 seconds. At the 0:03 second duration mark is where the electric synths and thick beats instantly kick in. I Wonder is driven by a kick drum, snares, and an array of processed electric synths.

You’re sitting in your room. Looking through the window seeing raindrops falling down and hearing the wind blow. Here are the things you that go on inside your heard when you think about the person you love.: “I wonder where you are.” “I wonder what you do.” “I won't make it on my own. I need to be with you.”

You wonder these things, “Was our love not strong enough?” “Was our love not strong enough to keep us going on?” “To make you fall like I'm falling for you.” The big question is “Was our love not strong enough to keep us going on to make you fall like I'm falling for you?” .

Days are passing by. You can’t forget about them. The teardrops in you eyes show that you miss them dearly. You wonder where they are.

Follow You serves as a follow-up to I Wonder and picks up where that song left off. Follow You is about wanting to be that person you love.

You wrote a letter hoping the person you love will the way they make you feel and what they really mean to you. You dream of the person you love every night. You be with them wherever they may go. You want to follow them.

The first half the song explains how so.

[Verse 1]
I wrote a letter
And I hope that you will see
The way you make me feel
And what you really mean to me

[Pre-Chorus]
Every night I dream of you
I wonder where you are
I look outside, into the sky
I see you waving on a star

[Chorus]
I wanna be with you
I wanna follow you
I wanna be with you wherever you may go
I wanna be with you
I wanna follow you
I wanna be with you wherever you may go
I wanna be with you
I wanna follow you
I wanna be with you wherever you may go
I wanna be with you
I wanna follow you
I wanna be with you wherever you may go

You try to call and patch things up with them. They say making up is not easy to do. Verse 2 gives us some insight about the phone call.

[Verse 2]
I tried to call
And make it up with you
But you keep on saying
It's not an easy thing to do

Cry is another song which calms down the mood for this album. A theme of sadness is what is inside of the song Cry. The song explains the deep feeling of love.

You still wonder why did the person you love say goodbye. They let you stand here all alone on your own. The pain inside you heart is tearing you apart.

Verse 1 explains the pain of being alone.

[Verse 1]
Now I still wonder why did you say goodbye
You let me stand here all alone
The pain inside my heart, it's tearing me apart
Cause now I stand here on my own

Now you cry yourself to sleep. Only that person is what you need. “We can make it if we try.” That is what you tell yourself. It’s to the point where you are nowhere without them. You don’t know what to do. You don't understand why they left. You still wonder why.

Pray is a spiritual love song about how you pray for the one you to be at your side. This is where the mood for the album gets all hyped and upbeat again. The song quickly transitions into upbeat dance and electronic music.

It makes you cry. So many things you have to know because you still care about that person. You miss following them. So you get down on your knees and pray for them. You pray that they were there lying in your arms instead of being far away.

The praying starts during the chorus. Read these lyrics.

[Chorus]
Now I pray on my knees and I look at the stars
That you would be here laying down in my arms
I pray on my knees for you
Now I pray on my knees and I look at the stars
That you would be here laying down in my arms
I pray on my knees for you

[Chorus 2]
I pray on my knees
I pray on my knees
For you

You uses more beats and less synths. However both the beats and synths manage to stand out at the same time despite being played at different paces and different times. True electronic music fans will appreciate the lush sounds of this lovely futuristic electronic soundscape.

You might think that Heaven is another song which calms down the mood for this album. However that is not the case. The song is an upbeat electronic song. The song sounds very similar to a Moby song. Of course Lasgo was influenced by the sounds of dance, pop, and electronic music when writing, composing, and programming Heaven.

Here is the breakdown of how the instrumentation arrangements are laid out. Now the first 38 seconds consists of a drum kit and electric synths. For the first 14 seconds, the song is driven by snares, a kick drum, and a cymbals kit. Angelic electric synths start to kick in at the 0:16 mark in the song. Bass and shakers come into the mix after the 0:43 mark.

Sometimes it’s hard to find out that person who you thought loved you did not love you. That person has used you. They didn’t care about you. This leaves you to wonder were you right or wrong. Still you need them forever. Not just for a night.

That person you love is an angel sent from heaven above. They took your pain away. Still you feel lonely and empty inside.

Don’t Belong 2 U uses more synths than of the other songs on this album. The song is about anguish, being hurt, and emotional pain.

Cloud Surfers uses a handful of vocal samples of an electronic soundscape which is composed of synths, beats, bass, guitars, and shakers. The song is an instrumental. True electronic music fans will appreciate the lush sounds of an electronic soundscape.

Feelings serves as the emotional closer for the album.

Lasgo - ‎Far Away album review

Lasgo’s sophomore album ‎Far Away also took electronic music by storm with their unusual and upbeat Eurodance sound back in 2005. The album helped Lasgo achieve even more international stardom thanks to songs such as Surrender, Still, and All Night Long. This was before Europop took over and trance music was popular. While not as successful as their debut album, the album still managed to chart internationally.

Peter Luts and David Vervoort do some fantastic work on producing electronic and trance music acting as producers for the album. Both producers mange to balance out the sounds of Europop and Eurodance on the album as they always do. The album incorporates dance music into upbeat electronic instrumental music with the pop sound. Mix the sounds of electronic, dance, pop, trance, and electronic. The results are this album by Lasgo. An international megamix of many genres. The Belgian trio never fails to disappoint or amaze audiences. Electronic music from Belgium never fails to disappoint people.

This album has a more sentimental mood with songs such as Only You, Still, and Deep In Your Heart. The trio took a turn in a slightly different musical direction on this album. You can still expect to hear many love songs on this album.

Surrender served as the upbeat electronic opening for Far Away. The song is perfect to work out to during exercise due to the upbeat tempo along with the electronic and dance sounds. Surrender charted in the single digits in the peak chart positions of US Dance and Belgium Ultratop 50. The charted at #1 on the US Dance charts and #6 on the Belgium Ultratop 50 charts.

The song deals with surrendering your emotions to the person you love and letting that person come into your life.  Every time you’re near that person you start to lose control. You don’t know if you can trust them.

Maybe you should try to find your strength within yourself. It's only a matter of time before you will surrender to them. People say love sometimes can be unkind. When temptation comes along, you can hide or fight it. Feelings inside are getting strong. Leave your fears far behind.

All Night Long is a non-discreet sex song. The song is about making love and having sex all night hence the theme of romance.

Deep In Your Heart is a song about longing for another person’s love.

Life's been hard for both of you, my love. Day by day you feel you’re getting closer to that person. Both of you decided to take it slow and let your feelings grow. You won't let that person slip away. Deep in your heart you are longing for love. That's all you want from them.

Here is what you are thinking. “Deep in your heart you are longing for love. I know you want me too. You feel the way I do. And I keep longing to be with you.” You have tried to run from love. Deep down inside you want them in your life. All your fears are gone. You are longing for love. Nothing more needs to be said.

Only You is a sentimental song about past memories. Yes, Only You is another Lasgo love song.

You remember those times of chasing hearts in the night. So many times love was gone within the morning light. I remember. You were always in control of what came your way. Heaven knows your life changed out of the blue. Since the day that particular person caught you eye and came into your life, you are not the same. The door has opened inside. They've won your heart, baby! Like an angel through the night. You could make it through life on your own. You’ve been living alone. Always got by. Then that person came. So emotions start running wild inside your head faster then the speed of light.

Still is another sentimental love song. The song also deals with past memories.

Time goes by. Still you care about the person you love. Love can be tough. You give and you take. That is what you have learned. There's no way around it. You may not know the things you should say. You may not know that your heart is in the right place. You ask your lover, “Do you still feel the way I do?” “Can you forgive me? I know that we can make it right.”

You hurt them in the past. That’s something you learned the hard way. That was wrong of you to do. You say, “Still I have to know. Do you still feel the way I do?”

True is a song about true love. The song shows how powerful true love is. These lyrics capture ‘living in the moment’. “Lying in your arms/I hear you breathing/I try to capture the moment/That I share with you/“ Can this be true? I belong to you? You belong to me?

Who’s That Girl is another love song that is backed by an acoustic guitar.

City lights are so bright tonight. Those city lights bring back your memories from the past. Pictures of that night. You were holding your lover tight. Now your lover is so far away from you.  Sometimes you feel your lover by your side. They are a part of you. You feel that in the night, they will return to you.

Remember how both of you danced into the light. You remember like it was yesterday. Remember ow it felt to hold them tight? I remember. You want to know one thing. Who's that girl? Because she is driving you insane. I'd like to know her name.

Yesterday served as the reprise to Who’s That Girl. The lyrics are identical and very similar to each other. That is because the song copies all the lyrics from that song into this song.

The title track Far Away shows a light of hope. With lyrics such as these you can tell there is going to be hope in the song. What's going on? Read these lyrics below.

Far away beyond the sky
Whenever I cry
Far away and anywhere
You hear me call when shadows fall
Your light of hope showing me the way
Venite Spiritu et emitte caelitus
Venite Spiritu et emitte caelitus
Venite Spiritu Venite Spiritus
Far away beyond the sky

Wherever I go
Far away and anywhere
Time after time you always shine
Through dark of night calling after me
And wherever I climb
Far away and anywhere
You raise me high beyond the sky
Through stormy night lifting me above
Venite Spiritu et emitte caelitus
Venite Spiritu et emitte caelitus
Venite Spiritu Venite Spiritus

Lying is known for its strange tempo over electric dance synths. The tempo and electric dance synths are what stand out. There is a faster version of this song which exists.

You’ve been feeling lately that something is on your mind. Friends don’t like you. You wonder what they've said today. The stories that they are telling are lies. Those people only like to see you blue and sad.Let's move on. Don't think about them. You know that they're wrong. You got to hold on. No matter what they say. Your heart ain’t lying, baby. You can believe me. Love is true.

Tell Me is a tale of foolish love. Sometimes you’re to blind to see how foolish you are when you’re in love. You are a fool to keep waiting on that person who love someone to love you. That is what the lyrics “Instead of her, you could have me/And maybe I'm a fool/But I keep waiting for you” mean.

What stands out about the song Tonight are the small amount of lyrics. This song has less lyrics than any of the other songs on this album. In fact most of the lyrics to this song don’t even cover an entire page.

Tonight
Tonight

When someone hurts your feelings deep inside
Please don't care 'cause I will hold you tight
It's up to you
Tonight
It's up to you
[x3]

Tonight
Tonight

Some people may think due to the title that the song is a slow jam. However that is incorrect. The song starts off with a selection of violins playing a brooding tune of uncertainty. Distorted bass starts to kick in at the 0:45 mark. A kick drum comes into place at 0:59 after a cymbal clash. More drum beats are added at the 1:15 mark. This is where the tempo of this song picks up.

Hold Me Now is about a happy memory from the past which is a picture of a couple that is pinned to a wall. The couple is laughing. With love and it all. The song serves as the closer for the Far Away album.

Verse 1 explains the story behind the picture nailed to the wall.

I have a picture
Pinned to my wall
An image of you and of me and we're laughing
With love and it all.
But look at our life now, we're tattered and torn
We fuss and we fight and delight in the tears
That we cry until dawn

Sadly life has taken a turn for the worst. All the couple does now is fuss and fight. All they want is to love each otters unconditionally. They’re two of a kind. Both are searching for some perfect world they know they’ll never find that.

Kerri Chandler -‎ Night Time EP EP review

Kerri Chandler’s‎ Night Time EP is one of the many EPs that slipped away from the public eye during the end of the 2nd millennium. This EP is one of Kerri Chandler’s‎ electronic deep house releases that did not receive hardly any media attention or any reviews from music critics. Kerri experiments with many genres such as Latin and electronic music on this EP. It’s not the just the standard electronic music as is the case with many of his releases.

No More Sun is driven by heavy congas, a marimba, techno beats, heavy bass, synths, and some good old finger snapping. No More Sun samples Rinder & Lewis - Anger. The sample, heavy congas, techno beats, and finger snapping are what stand out on the song. The song is an instrumental.

Kerri was inspired by Latin music when he wrote Latin Love Affair. That is why you hear such beautiful tribal beats and a loud grand piano in the background. The song is driven and backed by tribal beats, a flute, a loud grand piano, diluted electric bass. All 4 instrument layers stand out due to the loudness from the volume setting. Kerri is a genius when choosing the right instruments for certain genre of music. Shuu Hirose mixed the song. Latin music lovers will love the song Latin Love Affair. The song is an instrumental.

Monster Under My Bed is a deep house drive electronic song.

Choppa - Straight From The N.O. album review

Choppa’s Straight From The N.O. album was very underrated for its day. Straight From The N.O. is one of the lesser known obscure No Limit albums which did not receive as much promotion or acclaim as deserved in spite of having a hot buzz single called Choppa Style. Add the mixture of bounce music with Southern rap and the result is this Choppa album. Most of these songs are booty shakin’ music perfect for the club. Ex-No Limit protégé Curren$y is all over this Choppa album also.

However some of the subject matter is old rehashed music we’ve heard before such. Some of the songs deal with materialism, partying, socialization, money, and crime. That isn’t exactly new subject matter that is new or considered fresh, but back in 2003 those topics were hot in the world of rap music.

Take Fo Records collaborated with No Limit Records in 2003 to release this album. No Limit had just signed with Universal a year before this album was released which is why you see their logo on the back cover. Universal was their distributor in the early 00s. A couple of songs from the Choppa Style album appear on the Straight From The N.O. album.

The song Choppa Style was already a breakout smash hit and big song in the street of New Orleans, Louisiana and the South before Master P signed Choppa to No Limit Records. The song was originally released in 2002 on his debut album of the same name. The song was #1 for 3 months. Many non-New Orleanians tend to believe Choppa is referring to firearms and motor vehicles. Choppa is actually referencing how women love his charm and style. That is what the song Choppa Style is about.

This version of Choppa Style is not the same version from Take Fo Records. The No Limit version of Choppa Style is remixed with better audio quality.

The song Choppa Style saw a revival in popularity in 2018 when it was chosen by the New Orleans Saints football team to become the anthem for the team. This song was played for the team made at the Super Bowl during a Super Bowl run before losing in the NFC Championship. The city of New Orleans adopted this song as well.

At the beginning, Master P tells Choppa his intentions of remixing and adding the No Limit flavor to his song when he raps the line of, Yo Choppa, this P/I’m Uptown right now/I'm on my way to the Westbank to put a twist on this thing, ya heard?”

Now he don't mean to sound rude or intentionally hurt anyone. Choppa wants an independent woman working. He wants a slim, fine woman with some twerk with her. He wants a big fine woman with some pop in her. And all my independent women, ya heard me?

Some No Limit fans think Master P had the wackest verse towards the end of this song. Some thought his raps were wack. Some of the lyrics in his raps do not follow any rhyming scheme meaning some of the words don’t rhyme with each other as they would in a typical rap song. Here is an example below of how the lyrics don’t follow a rhyming scheme.

I'm in that new hummer with spinnin' wheels
And aww man, check out the grill!
Money, Gucci sandals, strip leather
I'm lookin' for that ghetto Cinderella
Choppa call me up, it's off the heezy

Brick Jungle is a song where Choppa represents where he’s from. He makes references to local rappers and nationally known rappers throughout the song.

Everybody gather around as Choppa has something to say. Choppa introduces himself to the audience. He is not new to the music game. He is from the brick jungle called Marrero, Louisiana. He was raised to clock dineros there. Marrero to him is like California to 2Pac. That is what the lyrics “Marrero to me, like California to 2Pac” mean.

Choppa was born in Harvey, Louisiana which is a town east of Marrero. Marrero is where Choppa was raised. Big Ramp of Take Fo ate the game up in Marrero. In Marrero, you ride or get rolled on. Steal or get stole on, slip up then so long.

There was a time when people did not support Choppa, but suddenly since Master P signed him to No Limit, everyone wants to be down with him. The following lyrics below highlight that.:

Now everybody wants see me, coming down they block
Now I remember, when you wasn't fucking with the Chop
Came out of nowhere, and put the whole South on lock
We got it locked dog, you know we are not smoking Billys
Represent Marrero project, down to Silver Lilly
We in the Platinum club, posted like it's our block
Ya'll know my pedigree, Choppa until the chest off

Choppa samples and makes a reference to MC Thick - Marrero (What The Fellas Are Yellin’) in the lyrics, “Cruising down the street/real slow/What the fuck are they yelling, (Marrero) talk to me now” MC Thick was a local emcee from his hometown who performed Marrero (What The Fellas Are Yellin’) which was a local hit in the 90s. His song is a reference to his hometown.

Choppa added some gumbo funk flavor to the track Dirty Dirty. You can hear the old dirty south rap sounds in Dirty Dirty. One of those perfect songs to play in the club.

Choppa added some gumbo funk flavor to the mix in this song. Some of the lyrics highlight this. Verse 1 makes light of this reference.

[Verse 1]
Now I'm a dirty old south boy
And you can tell by the way I spit it out my mouth boy
I'm hot and spicy with a clout boy
A Westbank representin' is what I'm bout boy I’m bout boy
You can catch me ridin down on your block on dub deuces
Right through that magnolias where they love

Holla At Me features ex-No Limit protégé Curren$y. It’s a New Orleans collaboration. He reps his city throughout the whole song.

Choppa wants people to holla at him. He comes from Marrero, Louisiana which is near New Orleans. Choppa himself is also representing the Boot State (L State). The murder rate is sky high in New Orleans as people ain't afraid to shoot. People are jacking on a constant grind.

But Choppa strayed away from the crime which plagues New Orleans. Choppa stayed away from crime as he was motivated, patient, and was focused. Now that's why he stacks money like pancakes. Choppa performs at shows and receives love from his fan base.

You can feel the elements of bounce music as you listen to the track Represent Yo Block. Represent Yo Block is similar to Juvenile - 400 Degreez. The track features BG of the Hot Boys. Only downside to this Choppa song is overuse of the word “nigga”. That gets tiresome after a while.

The two bonus tracks at the end of this album are With Me and What’s Happ’n. Both bonus tracks are not given song titles on the back cover and credit insert.

With Me is served as the first bonus track. Soldiers from the No Limit army featured on this bonus track are Master P and Curren$y.

Now Choppa be marching like a soldier with No Limit army right behind him. On that Westbank is where you might find him. He’s all about getting that dolla. He can pull a Prada model, t-shirt holla wobble wobble.
Later during the beginning of the song is where Choppa is at the club. He pops a bottle at the bar. The henny is turning green after being mixed.

We in the club pop a bottle, at the bar
Tell your girl stop tripping, she could holla at a star
Hypnotic in the car, is all I need to get mean
We could mix it
Like one say, left to the right right, to the left left, to the right
Let me see you bounce with me, East to the West
North to the South, back to the house, come blow a ounce with me

[Hook - 2x]
All my soldiers with me (yeah)
All my whodis with me (yeah)
If you hustle hard for a nigga praying (yeah)
My soldierettes with me (yeah)
My independent women (yeah)
Them hoes hatin' cause you looking good (hell yeah)

Things gets wild like New Orleans during Mardi Gras on the second verse. Read the lyrics below.:

Everybody throw your dranks up, soldiers throw your tanks up
Hit the flo', wild out, everybody drink something
It’s your set, throw it up, show me where the fuck you from
What you drinking mix it with this, hit this weed and have some fun
Girls got they butts up, y'all know what's up
We drinking this straight out the bottle, whodi put them cups up
I'm from the home of the Queen, that they call Anna

Who’s up next? Curren$y is! Curren$y came to represent New Orleans, Louisiana. He at gets a chance to showcase his lyrical skills.

Curren$y pulls up in a big truck on a set of twenty three's (23 inch rims aka 23’s). He has $20,000 of cash in the pocket of his P. Miller jeans. Playa hatas are mad as they wish they could rid of him. He is always on the radio. He keeps the burner with him as he never on the streets without it. The women form a crowd around the limo as Curren$y hops out it.

And my money hell-a-long, cause I just got a check from P
Huh bitches to Hot Spitter, you fuck around if you want
And watch how quick a nigga, send you to the hospital
Stick this biretta to your braids, me and my soldiers
Sticking together like Franky Beverly and me

Choppa makes several cultural references and names drops celebrities on What's Happ’n. He mentions celebrities such as P Diddy and Sly Stallone when he namedrops. Read some lyrics of this to understand.:

When you see me, you know I got at least a zone
And my shirt off, bulging like I'm Sly Stallone
Choppa puff mo' daddy than Diddy gone
Throw an ice cream party, boogoo chicks in thongs
This the New No Limit, we ball to the end
Gotta send a shout out, to all my dogs in the pen
All my thugged out niggas, bout to spin em a bend
I done signed with Master P, now we in it to win

Choppa - Choppa Style album review

Choppa’s Choppa Style album was very underrated for its day in spite of having a hot buzz single called Choppa Style. Most of these songs are booty shakin’ music perfect for the club. Add the mixture of bounce music with Southern rap and the result is this Choppa album. 2002 was a good year for New Orleans music.

Many non-New Orleanians tend to believe Choppa is referring to firearms and motor vehicles. Choppa is actually referencing how women love his charm and style. That is what the song Choppa Style is about.

The song Choppa Style was already a breakout smash hit and big song in the street of New Orleans, Louisiana and the South before Master P signed Choppa to No Limit Records. The song was originally released in 2002 on his debut album of the same name. The song was #1 for 3 months.

This version of Choppa Style is not the same version as the No Limit version. This is the Take Fo Records version of Choppa Style without Master P.

Now he don't mean to sound rude or intentionally hurt anyone. Choppa wants an independent woman working. He wants a slim, fine woman with some twerk with her. He wants a big fine woman with some pop in her. And all my independent women, ya heard me?

You're the One was a rap love song that was produced by DJ Jubilee. The subject matter was similar to One Mo' Chance and Love Me Like You Did.

That Bounce S**T serves as an ode and tribute to New Orleans bounce music. New Orleans was huge on the bounce music tip at the time this song was released. Heck even Cash Money and Mobo Records released bounce music at one point.
