N.I.S. - N.iggas I.n S.in album review

N.I.S. - N.iggas I.n S.in is one of Saginaw’s most overlooked horrorcore rap albums to date next to Damion The Demon Seed’s self-titled album. This album is a long forgotten album that is super rare as the album was only released in Saginaw, Michigan back in 1996. Their album was only released on cassette. The themes of death, crime, and the occult are prevalent on this album. The album reflects the grimness and griminess that plagued the streets of Saginaw during that time. All of these songs have a dark vibe not to mention chilling. Notice the fat bass and eerie synths. There are only 4 songs which are Evol Azz Niggaz, I Can Die, Fuck Em, and Sell Yo Soul.

Their sound and style of music is similar to Esham, KGP, Kobane Boyz, Bone Skanless, Damion The Demon Seed, Natas, Crunchy Black, Tommy Wright III, Lil Corb, and State Of Cykosis. This album is highly recommended for you if you’re a fan of Bone Skanless, Esham, Natas, Crunchy Black, Tommy Wright III, or Lil Corb.

Ghetto Devil produced the whole album himself with no help from any in-house producers. He decided to produce N.I.S.’s album by himself.  Brian Kapalias (Kap) had nothing to do with this album. Ghetto Devil already had separated himself from Mentality Records and split.

N.I.S. aka N.iggas I.n S.in was composed of Ghetto Devil and his brother. Ghetto Devil served as a producer and rapper for the group. N.iggas I.n S.in was also known as Niggas In Sin. The group shortened their name to N.I.S. for political correctness among other obvious reasons. Plus N.I.S. holds more weight than N.iggas I.n S.in and is less ambiguous. The group was wicked.

Evol Azz Niggaz an eerie ass horrorcore rap songs whiny synths and distorted crunches over gruesome lyrics. The theme of death is a common element in this song. 90s horrorcore rap can’t get any better than this. Evol Azz Niggaz is wordplay on “evil ass niggas”.

N.iggas I.n S.in are composed of 2 evil niggas which are Ghetto Devil and his brother. They’re coming to fuck up your head. They are grave diggers. There’s a hole in the ground that is your resting place. This is a representation and symbolism of a burial. These evol azz niggaz have evil rhymes for you everyday. These niggaz have “evol rhymes” in this case. Evil lives where they stay. N.I.S. can be seen standing at Jones School/Jones Community Center on Cherry Street where the pushers are with fat pockets. Ghetto Devil stays posted up.

Something evil is traveling from your body to your head. Ghetto Devil is the prince of darkness. He plays with the dead. He runs through the grave sites hearing himself screaming loud. If you fall asleep, Ghetto Devil will pop up in your dreams. Ghetto Devil is not Freddy Kruger but he will hunt you like Jason. (Notice the horror film reference.) You can’t enter hell without a full application. Ghetto Devil is crazy in the head. Some people say he’s loosing it. He’ll fuck you up badly and sorely. Don’t ever step to Ghetto Devil because he is an evol azz nigga.

Say your prayers. They are digging you a holy grave. A copy of the Holy Bible is burned in the process. Do you believe in Jesus or wicked niggas in sin? Your choice has been made. You lay on this crucifix. Your soul will burn in hell. They douse you with gasoline and light a match to watch your body burn.

The themes of the occult and death can be heard on Sell Yo Soul hence the dark gruesome vibe. Religious figures such as the devil and Satan are mentioned throughout the whole song. You can tell that Ghetto Devil had his hands in writing this song. Sell Yo Soul is similar to Chat Chat - Cry In Hell. Sell Yo Soul is N.I.S.’s most horrifying songs.

The song deals with selling your soul for the devil to keep. Ghetto Devil plays the role of the devil in this song. His brother performs some of the raps. Ghetto Devil playing the devil was the best idea for this particular song given the mood and theme. Souls are sold to the devil and Satan. The song also deals with the dark side of Hell where the devil dwells.

The death themed song I Can Die is N.I.S.’s most horrifying songs due to the given title. Ghetto Devil produced the song himself. The lyrics also deal with murder.

This album isn’t really considered ”an album” due to there being only 4 songs. N.I.S. was a good group with talent that should have released 2 albums by now. It’s truly shameful the group never released a full album.

Swift D - Swift D album review

Swift D’s album from 1997 is considered to be a lost album. Possibly only less than 7 copies of his debut album were issued onto ADAT tape. His entire album was recorded at Boomin Studios on Dort Highway in Flint, Michigan. His deepest tracks were "Mr. 12 Gauge" and "Amerikkka".

A total of 17 songs were planned to be recorded for his debut album. Swift D’s debut album is an unreleased album. The reason this album was never completed as Swift D’s focus was on 211. This led to his album to be only halfway completed. Sadly Swift D committed suicide on the date of 10/07/2002. So there will be no more music from him. Swift D is greatly missed and we loved him. He was a very talented young brother.

Mr. 12 Gauge deals with the issues of gun violence. Take it from Swift D as he lived and died on Flint’s rough hardcore streets. Mr. 12 Gauge is considered to be one of his deepest tracks on his solo album. DJ Clay and his staff at Boomin Studios were blown away by the level of his political awareness and social awareness.

Amerikkka is another one of his deepest tracks where he shows off his political awareness and social awareness. He exposes the racism in America. We Americans still are divided by racism. Swift D also calls out the government for being corrupt and failing its citizens. You can tell by listening to the track and the track title itself that Swift D has developed distrust towards the American government.

*Swift D was Dwayne Kevin Gurley III according to his death certificate.
*Swift D was in a rap duo called 211 bka Two Eleven with Young Breed from 1991 to 2002. They recorded several songs in the 90s in several studios around Flint. They mostly went to Bangtown Studios to record their songs and music. Sometimes they used Boomin Studios to record but not often.
*Swift D was featured on the track "Mind of A Cyko" which was on the self-titled King Hood Cykoz album from 1992. The song was later recorded again in 1993.

Chat Chat album review

The demo of long deceased Flint, Michigan rapper Chat Chat is a cassette that has been long forgotten. Chat Chat is a product of 90s Flint rap. Not too many people remember this rapper which is a tragedy because he left behind what could have been a career in music.

Chat Chat’s demo was recorded and engineered by Steve Pitts at Black Jack Studios in Flint, Michigan in 1994. Steve Pitts produced the entire demo himself. The songs included on this demo cassette are Somethin to Think About, Cry In Hell, Crazy Thought, Death Wish, and Lookin For A Gank. Chat Chat’s demo came out around the time King Hood Cykoz released their first album which was in 1994.

Chat Chat was influenced by the sounds of gangsta rap, electronic music, and horrorcore. Not only that, Chat Chat was influenced by the sounds of The Dayton Family, King Hood Cykoz, 211, Esham, Natas, Evol, and Variety of Sinz.

For those of you wondering what happened to Chat Chat, an explanation is provided below. It was a tragedy to what happened to Chat Chat. Here is what happened to Chat Chat:

Chat Chat was killed in 1994 around the age of 27. He killed with a gun which resulted into death was by gunshot. Chat Chat was murdered over a woman. One day, Chat Chat was killed in his car by his homeboy. He was dating some woman his homeboy was all behind his back. When he found out about this, he killed Chat Chat out of anger for what had happened.

His death was a shock. Chat Chat had left his child behind at the time of his death. His death was a tragedy that was not observed by Flint as a whole. His death remained overlooked and unnoticed. Robert Towne was Chat Chat the rapper. He was a rapper who was part of the Revelation Family on Revelation Records during the mid-1990s. He lived in King Hood on Dayton Street & Mason Street.

Chat Chat gives the public and us listeners something to think about on the song Somethin to Think About. The mood gets very dark quick as Chat Chat himself gets very deep on this song. He shares his thoughts on how life really is for him living in the ghetto.

The song starts off with some spooky ass eerie synths produced by Steve Pitts. Lyrics to the song start off with “Way to go/How close can I really get?/Didn’t want to find out/That’s why I don’t know”

Chat Chat talks about how hard it is to get a job when you’re from the ghetto. The trouble starts when a person from the ghetto submits in an application/resume only to have the employers throw it in the garbage. Who wants to hire a thug? No one. Not anyone in his community. Unemployment is the reason why Chat Chat joined a gang (on the set). He feels that he is unemployable due to being from the ghetto. People think he’s a fool but he’s making a profit in the middle of nowhere. Flint is just a place covered in cement. Living in the city is a pity.

You should have known who not to fuck with. That is Chat Chat. Police are locking niggaz up as they are coming up. If Chat Chat didn’t have an attitude, he would care about death. But he doesn’t. Death knows no color as death happens to everyone. Death has no boundaries. Chat Chat could care less. He sees more dead brothers as each day goes by.

You should know that Chat Chat has changed with the time. Change with the times so you won’t be left behind. Chat Chat says people don’t understand a black man like him. That’s something to think about.

Despite the negative vibe you get from listening to this song, Chat Chat has a message. His message is “Change with the times so you won’t be left behind.” That way you can adapt to change as time progresses forward.

Now the song has some of the best most prolific yet memorable lyrics which “Didn’t want to find out/That’s why I don’t know” and “Way to go/How close can I really get?”.

Cry In Hell (Death Wish) is similar to Crazy Thought as the song has dark subject matter. Cry In Hell is a death themed rap song where he gets very dark. The song has a dark eerie vibe similar to Something To Think About and Crazy Thought. The thick heavy bass blends in appropriately with the eerie vibe. His style of rhymes are wicked. References to wiccanism and satanism are mentioned throughout the song also.

On this song Chat Chat plays the role of a soul seeker who kills people out of meanness because he is evil. Evil possesses him to kill people.

Life’s a bitch. That’s why he stayed packed. He keeps a gat in his pocket for these niggaz in Flint or any other person. What’s worse is a person getting hurt. It’s time to get a soul. The soul is out cold.  He is mental as he is an individual who is sick in the head because he lives like a criminal.

It’s time to get a soul. He went out to take someone’s life at 12 during midnight. He doesn’t give a fuck. Now he’s busting people and watching them being brutalized. You only feel what a person feels if you look into their eyes. He murders people by giving them 2 bullets to the head. Chat Chat is loosing his mind as it is filled with evil. He is a soul seeker. Down in the basement is where the devil dwells. Your soul is required in hell. Your soul will be crying in hell.

He had a flashback as he looked at wrist. He remembers committing suicide by slitting his wrists. This is legit because he was suicidal at one point in his life. He lives his life in sin as he thinks about taking lives with his .38 revolver.

Chat Chat talks about doing hit and runs with his car. He gets violent as talks about running people down with his car. By running people down in his car he is killing them. For instance he stopped a truck driver on Clio Road and shot that truck driver on West Mott Avenue where Clio Road & West Mott Avenue intersect.

Chat Chat is Robert Towne’s split personality as he gets chatty. You don’t want to get introduced to his split personality. Chat Chat lives like a criminal.

Chat Chat is coming to get you. Watch him get hectic when evil thoughts lurk in his mind. This Sagittarius needs some wine. He needs a drink of wine. Insanity is what he thinks about. He does what he wants to do. So fuck what you think. He’ll get you. So don’t try to fight or run. He’ll play with your mind. Do a little voodoo. Chat Chat is satanic. He does damage when he is on the mic. Coming with he realness as he packs his steel. You better check yourself because if you don’t you might get killed.

Crazy Thought is a song which delves into the crazy mind of Chat Chat. The song has a dark eerie horrorcore vibe. Vinyl scratches used on this song blend in with the horrorcore element very well.

Time after time, Chat Chat feels crazy. He can’t get himself together. It’s gotten to the point where he is about to lose his mind. He needs to chill as he always has these crazy thoughts. By living in this hellhole, he knows he’s lost. Chat Chat feels as if he has no place to go. He doesn’t give a fuck about anyone. Chat Chat feels like grabbing his gun to kill someone. Like a crazy motherfucking G.

At the 0:51 timestamp is where he talks about killing his family. Here is how he killed his family: He shot his mother in the temple. He left her dead on the bathroom floor. His brother was an eyewitness to this killing. Chat Chat attacked his brother using a butcher knife. He stuck his little nephew in the freezer.

Homicidal business is what he is always thinking about. He smothered a little girl by kidnapping her. Nobody had a clue what happened to her. 2 weeks later, Chat Chat is attending her funeral. Now the song gets crazy at this point. He kills her father by putting a bullet hole in his head. Now he’s 6 feet under.

The ending of Crazy Thought is where the tape sounds like it's getting eaten up. Chat Chat's voice comes on the speakers saying, "Turn the tape off devil worshipping muthafuckaz!”

The album closes with the song Looking For A Gank. Looking For A Gank was produced by the legendary Flint producer Steve Pitts. Production work started in 1993 and ended in 1994. A perfect example of G-Funk.

Chat Chat is looking for someone to rob. He is looking for a gank. He starts by robbing a man for his link and dookie rope (gold rope). He put the barrel of his gun the man’s, clicked the trigger, and his head exploded. Now he goes to see Ronnie Johns. He has a .44 caliber handgun. Chat Chat realizes he has his sawed off shotgun.

He soon finds another person to rob. Money and dope were taken. Chat Chat left a bloodbath. Cops are after now after him. They want to fuck with his as they have an APB. Chat Chat runs to his house. A police car was on his grass. He turns the otters way to avoid being seen. Obviously he is paranoid. He is ooted up. Now he is smoking a Newport.

Chat Chat is broke and needs money. A nigga got jacked for a load of crack. He is on a rampage with his 12 gauge putting people on the front page newspaper.

Skeezoid ‎– Acid Breaks EP review

Skeezoid ‎– Acid Breaks is an EP full of breakbeats and repeated vocal samples over acid styled house music over heavy beats. The whole EP is electronically processed and filtered. Most of the songs are repetitive loops though however. Nearly all of these songs are instrumentals. The EP is a perfect tool for DJ’s to play at a rave or a club.

Gimmie Some More is perfect for a night club due to the rave sound that is incorporated. A handful of vocal samples are sprinkled over the song in various places. Some of the vocal samples are very orgasmic.

Make Some Noise is an upbeat electronic song which uses distorted electronic bass over a barrage of electronically filtered beats from a machine. What the bass lacks is a reverb because a delay filer has been used. Make Some Noise is another song perfect for a night club or the dance floor.

Say What is similar to a Lasgo song due to the flanger effect that is used. You can feel the intensity on this song.

Abstract Tribe Unique - Showtyme album review

Abstract Tribe Unique - Showtyme is a timeless classic from LA’s best lyricists. Every song is perfect production wise and lyrically. The production is perfect despite what other music critics say. Abstract Rude does more than enough to stand out on this ATU as you can hear his vocal presence all over this album. Not surprising since he does all the bulk of performing raps.

All Day is about daily living and the struggle. Here Abstract raps about life in the rat race.

All Day should have been the chosen as the opener for this ATU album because mood fits in perfectly for an opening track. A settling subtle flute sample is all over All Day. This flute gives off a vibe of a new beginning, freshness, uncertainty, and sadness all in one setting. Now the flute is what gives this song a very promising opening.

The rat race and the paper chase are a part of daily living and the struggle. We feel the weight, strain, aggression, and hate. You've been dyin' to have a session for you and your homies to just kick it all day. Some homies is nine-to-fivin’, but off this music you'll be vivin’. Stayin' hustlin' and strivin' all day just live everyone else. Can't be wastin' no time.

I know you on the grind all day. Money has been on you mind. Now you go off to party because you have been working all day. Music is on your mind.

Coolin’ is about having fun. Just relaxing. That’s what this song is all about. Imagine cooling out under the sun having big fun. Soaking up all the heat. It's hard to work on a sunny day. Skate on to the pier Ferris Wheel and chill as the waves crash in.

Flow and Tell is hip hop/rap’s take on Show and Tell. Abstract Rude shows off his lyrical talent and skills on this song. He certainly has improved as a lyricist. Abstract Rude does more than enough to stand out on his own as you can hear his vocal presence all over this song.
