Lil Yo ‎- Youngsta's On A Come Up album review

Lil Yo ‎- Youngsta's On A Come Up is one of the most sought after cassette tapes in Memphis rap. The album is impossible to find especially with the original cover still in place. Many copies that still are in existence have no cover intact. The album sells for astronomical prices when sold online by hundreds and thousands of dollars.

The dark atmosphere, his triplet flows, snap music, and gangsta sound are what make this album great and enjoyable to listen to. The best songs on the album are "Creepin" and "On My Way To Texas”. Lil Yo had a dope killer rap flow on this tape with his triplet flows as he was spitting heat. DJ Sound and Kingpin Skinny Pimp produced this legendary album on the local production label called Gimi Sum Productions. The sounds of snap music and gangsta rap are truly dope.

For those who did not know, Lil Yo is Yo Gotti. Yes, Lil Yo and Yo Gotti are the same people despite what some people believe or have you believe/think. It’s Yo Gotti before he became Yo Gotti.

Yo Gotti started rapping under the name Lil Yo in 1995 and had recorded this album in 1996 when he was 15 years old. This album was released on cassette only in Memphis, Tennessee on a local production label called Gimi Sum Productions. He was leagues ahead of his time the way he mastered triplet flows in his raps. He was the dopest teenage rapper out of Ridge Crest in Memphis, Tennessee at one point. Crazy how Lil Yo went from this to Unplugged. Hard to believe this is Yo Gotti.

People say Lil Yo was biting Three 6 Mafia, Tommy Wright III, Gangsta Pat, Lil Gin, Kingpin Skinny Pimp, and whoever else from Memphis. That is false as it’s a Memphis flow period. The Memphis flow is what he uses in his raps with the fast pace of triplet flows. People have compared him to xxxtentcion interestingly enough.

Many Memphis rap fans seem to favor Yo Gotti’s older style of rapping from when he went by Lil Yo than his new style of rapping as a national artist. Many Memphis rap fans like Yo Gotti better when he was a local artist especially old heads. They wish they would hear him rap like this now because he lost his Memphis flow and beats when he became a national artist. Old heads and haters consider Yo Gotti to be garbage now. People seem to like or dislike Yo Gotti these days in terms of popularity. Either way, people should respect his hustle as he has a family to feed. Times and situations change. That is why he changed his name, his beats, and flow.

Creepin is one of the dopest songs on the album that is still a classic to this day. The song has that dark grim gangsta rap vibe that was trending in the Memphis underground during that time. The song Creepin is one of his best works on this album and of all time. This song will take you on a trip down memory lane.

He killed this song by mastering triplet flows in his rapping by rapping 3x times fast. That is a true Memphis flow.  He was way ahead of his time with this song. The production of Creepin was inspired heavily by the horror film Psycho which is why you can hear a mixture of horrorcore rap, snap music, soundtrack, and gangsta rap.

Creepin has been sampled in new school rap songs such as Bodyguard - Fatal and Lil Ramsey - Magnolia. The most notable example of Creepin being sampled in a new school rap song is Bodyguard - Fatal. A vocal sample from Creepin can be heard at the 0:38 duration mark. The other samples that are included on there are start to kick in after the 0:38 duration mark plays.

On My Way To Texas is a classic. The song has that dark grim gangsta rap vibe with those raw beats produced by Kingpin Skinny Pimp and DJ Sound. On My Way To Texas is similar to Creepin. Lil Yo also uses triplet flows here. People say Lil Yo was biting Three 6 Mafia and Tommy Wright III. That is false as it’s a Memphis flow period. His raps are brutal either way.

Now the sample used on this song used is from Geto Boys - No Nuts No Glory. That is where the lyrics “been selling out the same dopehouse since the age of 16" come from. That song has been sampled a countless number of times. The Geto Boys also had an influence on Memphis rap and snap music. That is where the scary tune sample comes from also. That is why this song has got that Houston-Memphis vibe.

On My Way To Texas has a strong influence of 8-Ball & MJG. Lil Yo was inspired by the sound, style, and influence of 8-Ball & MJG that was trending and becoming popular in Memphis at that time when he wrote this song. That is why the 8-Ball & MJG influence is heavy and strong on the song On My Way To Texas. The  production was inspired heavily by the horror film Psycho which is why you can hear a mixture of horrorcore rap, snap music, soundtrack, and gangsta rap.

Not only was he influenced by 8-Ball & MJG. He was also influenced by Three 6 Mafia. One can tell Lil Yo was obviously influenced by Three 6 Mafia when he wrote and recorded On My Way To Texas. Ironically he used to talk shit about Three 6 Mafia back in the 90s. As for his feud with Three 6 Mafia, he had beef with Three 6 Mafia and was arguing with them at that time over who was the better rapper. He did not want join Three 6 Mafia after that beef/feud.

Wicked Hearted uses a small layer of beats and a single bass line which plays only a few musical notes. The song is about how Lil Yo is a cold hearted wicked person. Lil Yo is the first person to rap and Mr. Yack is the second person to rap.

Wicked Hearted was heavily influenced by the Geto Boys and MC Eiht as this song samples clips of their songs. The song Wicked Hearted samples Geto Boys - Be Down and MC Eiht - Def Wish III. The vocal sample of “I’m taking my nine” comes from MC Eiht - Def Wish III. Many people have wondered where that vocal sample came from. Not many people know this but Memphis rap was heavily influenced by Geto Boys with horrorcore oriented gangsta rap sound and edge. Geto Boys also had an influence on rappers such as Lil Yo and MC Mack.

Amazing Murder is a horror film inspired gangsta rap song which uses a sample from the movie Natural Born Killers. His raps about a brutal murder that took place in Memphis, Tennessee. Lil Yo and Lil T went the hardest on this song with their verses.

Now what stands out about this song is the sample that is used. The sample at the beginning of Amazing Murder is from the movie Natural Born Killers. The sample comes from the sub climax of the film which opens with the journalist interviewing Mickey Knox. That is also where the song begins. Actor roles for the characters are as follows: Robert Downey Jr plays the journalist character. Woody Harrelson played the character Mickey Knox in Natural Born Killers.

The case of this murder is an unsolved mystery. Everyone is wondering who killed Ted. Ted was an innocent citizen who wound up dead as he was murdered. He was murdered in the projects. There are no leads to any suspects. Ted was 21 years old when he died.

His family is constantly going to court. Tears were shed. There is nothing sadder than hearing tears of sorrow. The funeral was so sad. This brother had plenty of knowledge, edumacation, and skills.

Already 3 days later and someone else wound up dead in the same projects. It's the same old shit everywhere we look. Death and destruction. Killing over nothing. Everybody is suspicious. Wondering who is committing these murders. They found another person on the curbs already. Detectives have no evidence. So who could it be? Your guess is as good as mine.

The song Ridge Crest is about an apartment complex called Ridge Crest Apartments. Ridge Crest is a classic song which has that old school Memphis sound with the dark vibe, thick beats, and eerie sound. Now this verse is raw. “I don’t go to high school cuz I go to school high" Nobody out of Ridge Crest was as raw as Lil Yo was. If only he was still this way.

The title track, Youngstas On A Come Up, are about how young black males are coming up and earning that cash by committing crimes. People do what is absolutely necessary for them to do in these streets. Throughout the song he commits multiples time flows about crimes all over the city of Memphis, Tennessee. The gist of Youngstas On A Come Up is mainly about teenagers doing crime(s). Lil Yo uses the triplet flows when he raps in the song.

Tommy Wright III - Runnin and Gunnin album review

Tommy Wright III - Runnin and Gunnin is a testament to underground rap. Underground rap is so much better then mainstream rap. Everything from gangsta rap to horrorcore is included on this album. The sounds of Memphis rap are dark and raw. This album is no exception. Now this album is his most gangsta rap oriented rap album to date with songs such as Runnin and Gunnin, On Da Creep, Homicidal Ride, and One Man Gang. Memphis rap fans will surely dig this album. Runnin and Gunnin is his most gangsta album to date.

Homicidal Ride samples Ice T - The Tower. That is a perfect sample for a haunting track such as this one. Memphis has been on that haunted shit for a while now. The song uses snap music beats from a drum machine. Notice how the beat drops at the 0:06 mark.

Life In FCP uses a soulful and gangsta sound in one song. It’s nothing but pure Southern funk on Life In FCP. Think soul rap. Now the song has a slow vibe similar to a DJ Screw song. Life In FCP samples Usher - Can You Get Wit It, Led Zepplin - Stairway to Heaven, OJays, and Jodeci.

Still Pimpin’ is one of the songs that features the legendary Princess Loko and Mac T Dog. Still Pimpin’ is a pimping and pandering type of track. Princess Loko and Mac T Dog rap a majority of the song.

Princess Loko is pimping till the end. Making that green. Its just a game to get sum up for a pocket full of cheese. Coming on the scene with the Tommy Hilfiger. Bitch please, motherfuckers ain't stopping her. Now Loko never goes for the niggas on her dick. Niggas get broke for the end trying to pimp her out of cash or weed. She be playing all these boys like toys.

Notice on Verse 2 how Mac T Dog’s verses are much shorter than Princess Loko’s verses. His verses are the shortest verses on this song. Read and analyze the lyrics below to get a better understanding.

[Verse 2: Mac T Dog]
Bitches got to recognize the game I spit, I'm Mac T Dog
Make a hoe any minute trick, next that hoe coming out them draws
Hotel bound, we get silly bitches up on the [?]
Then I call my nigga Lil Mike, with the clique gone pay the court
Got that hoe in the back with my niggas in the front
If the bitch get out of line, I locking this slut in the trucks
V.H.S. camera on my motherfucking shoulder pads
Taping this stupid ass bitch at the hotel while she blowing up Tommy's ass
Lil Mike flat out dicking that bitch got that hoe backbone broke
Plus my nigga ave shovin dick all down the bitch them throat
Now ya know the 4 corner clique trick so motherfuckin wild
Put that fuckin bitch in the house while we still pimpin hoes in style

Now compare Mac T Dog’s verse to Princess Loko’s verse on Verse 3.

[Verse 3: Princess Loko]
Let me teach a lesson to you stupid hoes in Memphis Ten
Get your paper, boots, utensil, don't forget your fucking pen
First of all I'm sick of you bitches
Saying your man do this and that
Lyin' just trying to keep your friends when you know all they do is hit that cat
Wearin' your mother's ring claiming this what lil Tommy bought
Knowing if he ever heard you lie like that he smack you in your fucking jaw
Hickeys on your neck but then you say you got some more that's bigger
Yeah I bet they is between your legs from fifty other niggas
Freaky-deeky bitches fucking on niggas that they barely know
Then they want to get mad when niggas call they slutty and some hoes
You might say you run a busta but you know he's pimpin' you
Bitches got you fucked up in the mind and in the pussy too
Trying to be a player but you can't cause you a freaky bitch
The only playin you doing is with your hair, you hoes can't be too slick
Let these niggas have they way because he said he love you bad
Yeah he show you love with your pussy and your cash
Bitches just don't know about the game, the niggas popping hoes
But Loko gonna stay hip
Cause I never buy no niggas no clothes
Niggas try to run their sad ass shit expecting me to go along
I don't trust these cowards so I tell them to take they ass home
Do I look just like your mammy
I hope it's me you tryna gank
Bitch, you better run you're ass back to the bank
Cash a fucking check or something
And fall up out my fucking face
Taking me for a dumb hoe
I think you got your fucking bitches misplaced
Love ain't shit but a nothing false mistake for a long relationship
Fuck that lovey, dovey player cause I'm a motherfucking pimp
Loko just ain't fucked up about no nigga trying to fuck me over
Boy you better it combated, trick my meal in ninety-four

Runnin-N-Gunnin is an action packed gangsta rap song which gives us details Tommy Wright III’s run in’s with the law and the escapades that follow. The bold and daring Runnin and Gunnin does not fail to disappoint. Runnin-N-Gunnin serves as his story of how he committed a 1st degree murder. One can expect the song to get violent and gruesome.

Tommy Wright III started out with six bullets but ended up with zip. So he fucked around and bounced. He gave his Glock 17 to his road dog (roadie) fully loaded. Creepin' never sleepin', duckin' and divin' as Tommy does his thang.

Tommy tells us exactly how his gang got raided at the shack they were at in these lyrics. “Left my gang at the shack, some of my niggas was left on the track/Boomin' dope, never soap, but them folks set up a raid/All them dealers dropped they dope and got my cousin caught that day”

He left his gang at the shack. Police had the shack set up to be raided so they could catch criminals. His cousin got caught in the raid that day. He got charged for 40 rocks. Police discovered his cousin had a gun and took him into custody. Now he’s serving time in the penitentiary. Down in 201 is a reference to doing time in penitentiary or the county jail.

So Tommy has his Glock with six shells. Finna break his cousin out of jail. Drivin' down the highway, mane. You know someone is from Memphis when they say mane. He got off at the Union exit. Tommy is now scoping out for police cars. He ain't scared 'cause he’s hard.

So Tommy walked up to the door and broke out running past the checkout cop. The metal detector went off because he shot froths chrome glock. His cousin is located on the fourth floor. Tommy finds his cousin and escapes jail. The jailbirds escaped with them. Police put out an APB. Now they run deep through downtown. They get into the hooptie, but for some reason the car is not working. All they need is to find a car that works.

They went into a bank. Tommy shot the security guard while his jailbirds stuck up all the bank tellers. All the jailbirds jumped in the back with the money sacks. Now he is down to four bullets but had to use the fourth one. He saw blue lights in the rear view mirror ahead. So he punched the gas and drove off. Memphis Police Department blocked off the street. So everybody ran on foot through the woods. Duckin' and dodgin' from them folks.

NFTP - Scandalas demo album review

The NFTP - Scandalas demo was released on Cut Foul Records, distributed by INDI, and distributed by City Hall in 1993. Think gangsta rap meets old school hip hop with this album when you listen to this album by NFTP. Many cars in Flint were playing NFTP, DOA, and The Dayton Family at the time this cassette came out.

NFTP is Niggaz From The Park from Dewey Park on the East Side of Flint, Michigan. NFTP was from Moore Street as was Took-N-Bone. Dewey Park was a hood not to be fucked with back then as Dayton Street was. NFTP made it very clear they did not like snitches. NFTP was a group composed of gang members from the city of Flint during that time period. Most members of the NFTP were Crips and some were Vice Lords. NFTP was a group composed of nine members. Big Dane, The Mac, Lil Mac, Big Rock aka Big Roc, A. Bone, Mackee aka The Undertaker (Mackeef), and others were members of NFTP.

The Lurk is about Big Rock's life of street hustling and dope smuggling. Big Rock would rather roam the streets and sell drugs than to prefer being in school and getting an education to better himself so he can become a contributing member of society. The dark grim realities of street life do lurk on this song. The song shows us no solution to end the problems of the United States drug epidemic.

One thing is for sure! NFTP made it very clear that they did not like snitches. That was what the song Uah Snitch was all about. The Mac can't stand the fact that there are too many snitches in Flint due to the fact that Flint is a small city of 100,000 people. NFTP had beef with many snitches as well as many local Flint gangs such as Flint Bloodstones, Spanish Cobras, Dayton Mafia, and Selby Hood. NFTP was cool with Took-N-Bone and DOA while almost no one else in Flint was at that time.

The productions styles and sampling are very underground and bass heavy. The Slick Rick samples are phat and off the hook! Let me put it that way.

Big Rock's Ride was the dopest cut! A lot of NFTP fans and Flint citizens can agree with that. Most cars in Flint were playing this and The Dayton Family at the time. Big Rock's Ride will remind you of the song Cruzin' by the DOA during the same year.

The Undertaker's Dozen (13) is a short two and a half minute interlude about how The Undertaker killed 13 people and why his nickname is "13 Booties in a Basket". It's a never ending saga of The Undertaker committing random killing of unsuspecting victims. The Undertaker starts his first murder related killing on Friday the 13th. He killed women, men, and children. The Undertaker's Dozen (13) is about why Mackeef is The Undertaker. The mood of this interlude is very dark, sinister, foreboding, and brooding.

Next up is the title track of Scandalas. Most cars in Flint were playing this and The Dayton Family at the time as I had said before. This track is filled with pure gangsta ass dopeness. Being "scandalas" is about living that criminal lifestyle as a rebel to society and the moral standards set in place. It's clear that NFTP was pissed off about some shit when they recorded this track. Fools were still having beef in the 90s. There is still chivalry in the 90s that is mentioned in the beginning of the title track. The productions styles and sampling are very underground and bass heavy modulating pounding keynotes. NFTP was the most "scandalas" rap group from Flint!

Mackee (The Mac) has a raspy distorted voice on Behind The Mac. I love the heavy bass and drum beats on Behind The Mac. Mackee made it clear he did not like Slobs (Bloods or in this case Flint Bloodstones) because he was a Crip. (Not to mention Spanish Cobras, Dayton Mafia, and Selby Hood.) Big Dane was a Crip too. It's a straight gangsta song!

While DFC was the most funkiest rap group, while Took-N-Bone were the dopest, The Dayton Family was the most hardest gangsta rap group, DOA was the most deadliest rap group, you had Ruff-N-Rugged which was the most rugged rap group in Flint, Top Authority was the most authoritative in Flint, Guttt Control was the most gutsiest sexually suggestive out of all the Flint rap groups at that time, while FOD was the rawest, and Artfull Dodgers was the most artsiest,. NFTP was the most scandalas rap group from Flint!

It's too bad NFTP didn't make 4 more albums after this one. A lot of rap groups from Flint only dropped one or two albums for some reason. The reason that a lot of rap groups from Flint only dropped one or two albums was due to lack of finances, lack of resources, lost interest, creative differences, contracts, and criminal lifestyles at most. So that's why NFTP only released one cassette. NFTP was the most gutta! NFTP lyrics were def not wack unlike them Took-N-Bone.

Lil Louis & The World ‎– Journey With The Lonely EP EP review

Lil Louis & The World ‎– Journey With The Lonely EP was an EP that was issued on vinyl only in 1991 which wholeheartedly was used to promote his then and upcoming album called Journey With The Lonely which was released on Epic Records in 1992. This Lil Louis EP is a collection of deep house music mixed with electronic sound that was prevalent around Chicago, Illinois throughout the late 80s and early 90s. Although this Lil Louis EP is more electronic and jazz oriented in terms of sound. Its sophisticated production stands the test of time.

These days this Lil Louis EP goes for hefty prices. Sometimes the EP sells for more than $100 dollars on Discogs, GEMM, or eBay. But this EP is worth the purchase for any Lil Louis collectors willing to buy this vinyl EP. Many underground house classics are included on this vinyl such as Dancing In My Sleep, You’re My Reason, Blackout, and Funny How U Luv. Perfect for a picnic, prom, homecoming, or a pool party.

Dancing In My Sleep came from the 1992 album Journey With The Lonely. Joi Cardwell was the lead vocalist who wrote this song. Lil Louis himself did not write this song. Her vocals are sung in perfect harmony. Lil Louis produced the beats himself. Dancing In My Sleep is one of the lesser known songs from Lil Louis.

Dancing In My Sleep is about awakening to a new world with eyes wide in search of something new. Reaching for our dreams. The first verse highlights this at the very beginning. Take a look.:

[Verse 1]
Once upon a time
When things were new
Our eyes wide
We saw the world anew
We sang our songs and we danced along
Reaching for our dreams
Now it’s been so long since our view was clear
And our dance we walk through like sleep

Imagine dancing in your sleep. You toss and turn trying to break the mold. Someone lovingly reaches out to you. Pushing you to grow. Others tell you not to change and to stay the way you are. Now it’s time to ignore them and shake to a different dance or groove. Verse 2 highlights the encouragement of growth. Take a look.:

[Verse 2]
Oh
Fitfully
I toss and turn trying to break the mold
Lovingly you reach out to me
Pushing me to grow
Others tell me not to change
to stay the way I am
But I’m itching to move
Time to groove
Time to shake to a different dance

Now the chorus explains how to shake this mood by watching for something new. Read the chorus to find exact details.:

[Chorus]
I’m dancing in my sleep
Waiting for something new
I’m dancing in my sleep
Waiting for just for you
I’m dancing in my sleep
Waiting for something new
I’m dancing in my sleep
Waiting for just for you
I’m just dancing
Trying to shake this mood

Do U Love Me is the bonus track for this EP that can also be found on the album Journey With The Lonely. Do U Love Me samples Taana Gardner - HeartBeat and Freedom - Get Up And Dance. Joi Caldwell’s vocals were sublime on this song. This song is perfect for a wedding.

This is a wonderful piece of house music which can be considered a classic deep house song with a bass line that will get you every time you listen to this song. The kick drum kicks in after the first verse and the snare drum that kicks in after the second verse. The bass and drums will have you bounce around. It is both hypnotic and melodic. The song is nothing short of emotionally tugging.

The song explores regret in seeking confidence from a friend. Read Verse 2.:

[Verse 2]
In my soul I always knew
That I dared to ask of you
Who’s a friend, I would regret
So I live with my secret
Somewhere singing signs of spring
Whispering a melody
But before I’ll spread my wings
Will you answer candidly

[Chorus]
If you love me
Take me higher and higher (x2)

The fifth verse seeks for truthfulness. Read Verse 5.:

[Verse 5]
Hold me baby
Here’s what I say to you
From my soul (From your soul)
I’m asking you (Just be true)

Blackout came from the 1989 album From The Mind Of Lil Louis. The song Blackout has a deep house sound mixed with electronic music and dance. Back in 1989, the song was played around the world in nearly every club and at every party. Its uplifting vocals are what really energize the song. The song Blackout utilizes a time signature of 4|4.

However Lil Louis gets in touch with his religious side by quoting some scriptures from the Christian Old Testament book. Such as mentioning The Lord is my shepherd from Psalm 23. Psalm 23 is the 23rd psalm of the Book of Psalms.

The first verse quotes the beginning of from the Christian Old Testament and Book of Psalms.

[Verse 1]

The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures
He leaded me beside the still waters
He restoreth my soul
He leaded me in a path of righteousness
For His name's sake
Yeah
Though I walk to the valley of the shadow of death
I will fear no evil, for thou art with me
Thy rod and thy staff comfort me
Thou preparest a table before me, in the presence of my enemies
Thou anointest my head with oil, my cup's runneth over
Surely goodness and loving kindness
Shall follow me all the days of my life
And I will dwell in the House of the Lord
Forever

In the middle of the song is where Genesis 1:1-10 is quoted. Revelation 6:12 is quoted as well. These are the scriptures listed below.

[Genesis 1:1-10]

In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth
And the earth was without form and void
And darkness was above the face of the deep
And the spirits of God moved upon the face of the waters
And God said "let there be light", and there was light

[Revelation 6:12]

And I beheld when he opened the sixth seal
And Lord there was a great earthquake
And the sun became black a sackcloth of hair
And the moon became as blood
And the stars of heaven fell to the earth even as
A fig tree casts her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind
And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together
And every mountain and island were moved out of their place

The message at the end of the song tells us to seek out the truth. The message at the end of the song is “The truth is now, don't wait, too late to wake up” .

You’re My Reason came from the 1992 album Journey With The Lonely. The song is a mellow tune since the pace is very mid tempo. The song is Chicago house music at its finest. You’re My Reason is one of the lesser known songs from Lil Louis. The instrumentation uses a mellow piano, bongos, and a small shaker selection. The bongos are what give the song a soothing mellow vibe along with the piano that is used. This song is perfect for a wedding.

The first part of this song explain how this woman is yearning for a kiss and be closer to her man. She wants him to be by her side so she can desire him more. Read the lyrics below to get a better understanding.

In the morning when I wake hope I’ll overstay from your loving
One kiss is just for crying and my soul is true to fire from your loving
From your loving
you know there'll always be somethings I want to get I want to give
A special a special kind of harmony for your love I want to be
Wanna be close to you baby
Cause you're my reason
Wanna be close to you boy
You're my reason to believe
If I strive to survive but I will to realize
Close to you boy
Cause you're my reason
You're my reason
(delay)

Clap Your Hands (Heads Radio Mix Main R&B Extended) can also be found on this vinyl EP. Clap Your Hands samples Freedom - Get Up And Dance. The song utilizes a time signature of 3|4.

Funny How U Luv came from the 1992 album Journey With The Lonely. Funny How U Luv is one of the lesser known songs from Lil Louis. Not many people know this but Lil Louis is the person who you can hear whistling in the background. The song has that Lakeshore Drive groove. Incidentally the song samples snippets of a Lakeside song.

Nomad - Ruff’n It/Spiritual Environment single review

Nomad (Jay McIntyre) gives a 4 track single that has a down to earth subtle Quiet Storm vibe called Ruff’n It/Spiritual Environment. Both tracks have that smooth subtle Quiet Storm/soul sound to them. Ruff’n It/Spiritual Environment is a lost soul gem from the 90s era. Black Market Records dropped the ball by not promoting this single the right way it should have been. Still this single is a rare release from the legendary Black Market Records. This single is similar to KRS ONE, Lakim Shabazz, Steffon, Black Eyed Peas, and Me Phi Me.

Ruff’n It sounds similar to song title about romantic rough sex, but that’s not the case with this song. Ruff’n It is a smooth mellow soul song with an Afrocentric touch and a slightly romantic R&B touch. Afrocentric beats are used in this song. A tune such as this one is quite heartfelt. Nomad proves to be rough in it on Ruff’n It.

There are 2 versions of Ruff’n It. This is the original version of Ruff'n It. The original version of Ruff'n It is much different from the version on his 1996 album Paths We Walk.

All you environmentalists and people who love Mother Earth will love this song as Nomad gets in touch with Mother Earth here. In this song he talks about escaping the fast paced hustle and bustle of working a 9 to 5 by looking for spiritual freedom.

Nomad talks about how he had to break from the typical rat race routines such as working a 9 to 5. He sold some of his material possessions. He travels far away where the nearest town is 30 miles away. His journey begins in the open wilderness. Here he thanks the Lord for what’s bestowed down up on him. Damn it feels good to begin again in life. That is how looking for spiritual freedom feels when you leave the city.

All you environmentalists and people who love Mother Earth will love this song called Spiritual Environment. The Spiritual Environment song was dedicated to people who are down for peace with Mother Earth. This composition/song was written as an effort of peace. Nomad gives us a spiritual awakening by taking us on a spiritual journey through Spiritual Environment. Also Nomad attempts raise spiritual awareness inside of Spiritual Environment.

Nomad discusses the trials and tribulations of his nomadic lifestyle on a daily basis while searching for spiritual freedom. His roots travel deep into the Earth like a sequoia. He is free like the wind. Feeding off rain and sunlight.

The song has deep lyrics. “Knowledge of my world travels far and beyond/signs that are deeper than the deeper ponds” “Silence falls over my surrounding with a solitude/Night creeps in with a chill and a dark hue/Everything is calm in the cypher that I represent/These conquers all that are in my spiritual environment/Close your eyes and tell the people what you see”
