DJ Sneak ‎– Beetz-N-Noizez EP EP review

DJ Sneak ‎– Beetz-N-Noizez EP is one of the many underrated and under appreciated releases from Chicago disco house legend DJ Sneak. Only DJs know about this DJ Sneak release. This EP showcases some of DJ Sneak’s earlier works from the 90s. DJ Sneak blends the genres of electronic, dance, and hip hop/rap on one record. This EP is a perfect vinyl tool for DJs.

Bitch Betta Have is backed by dance beats over the vocal sample of AMG - Bitch Betta Have My Money. The song has an explicit arrogant vibe that is quite misogynistic. This song can get annoying to some though but that does not prevent the song from being a banger.

Groove Patrol incorporates the genre of dance and electronic on one song. The song uses infectious kicks, claps, clavs, and hoots. What stands out about this DJ Sneak song is the loud pounding kick drum which is repeated looped throughout the song until the end. The kick stops around the very end.

DJ Sneak - EP EP review

DJ Sneak’s DJ Sneak EP is a deep house EP which uses tribal sounds and techno. Techno meets the sounds of tribal house and disco on this DJ Sneak EP. Now DJ Sneak was in his prime when he was signed to the  electronic label Strictly Rhythm. Although he may not have been as popular as the rest of their roster, DJ Sneak being on the electronic label Strictly Rhythm proved to be a good fit for him as electronic music ruled much of the 1990s.

Throw Your Hands is good to start your house set with. The song uses a percussion sample over a thick, hard kick drum. Thick beats are what stand out on Throw Your Hands. The lady that keeps repeating, "Throw your hands up in the air!" is actually a sample and not an original vocal recording. The sample is actually a disco sample. Most the song is repetitive sample based music.

Compute is a techno oriented song being that this is the techno portion of the EP. The song uses a wide array of blips and synths. Some synths used bit crushed distortion.

Dancin uses a percussion sample over a thick and hard kick drum. A disco sample is used. The song also uses an 8-track mixdown.

Mind Destruction uses a bit of distorted techno sounds. Notice the blips and synths. Mind Destruction samples Aphrohead - In the Dark We Live. Surely enough, Mind Destruction will have you left in a trance. The song is that wonderful.

The Music Is In Me uses dry hats all over the place. Most the song is repetitive sample based music. Now what stands particularly about the song The Music Is In Me is that the song uses a 48-track mixdown.

The Diamond Dogs ‎– The Conception EP EP review

The Diamond Dogs ‎– The Conception EP is a dub techno EP which uses a minimal amount of electronic music. The beats are hard hitting and will surely enough rattle your speakers. Each track is definitely a banger and a dance floor mover. Techno from Canada can’t get any better then this. The genre of techno certainly has improved over the years.

Velvet Driveshaft uses more tribal house oriented beats and drums then the usual electronically processed beats you would normally hear in electronic music. Sure enough those beats alone rattle your speakers. Those hi-hats and snares really stand out. The song is characterized by a deep, repetitive bass line with maximum percussion.

Jak Stat is known for its chords and loud thunderous beats. This song uses extremely loud percussion and loud thunderous processed techno beats. The song is infectious and favorable which is why you will keep coming back to listen to this song.

Debrice King Featuring Linda Hood ‎– Debrice King E.P. EP review

Debrice King Featuring Linda Hood ‎– Debrice King E.P. is some really weird deep garage house sounds. That is where those deep garage vibes come from. Different genres of music are used such as electronic, soul, and easy listening. The EP has that fresh sound that is bumping. You have romantic songs such as Midnight Review, I'll Give You All My Love, and I'm Falling In Love.

Midnight Review is a climatic yet orgasmic house track that will make you want to wet yourself. That track is that good. The song uses heavy beats over soft luscious piano keys over a calming romantic electronic instrumental soundscape. The shakers have a bit of static to them but that does not stop the romantic theme from being climatic or orgasmic. Midnight Review is perfect for a love making session.

Movement uses some really weird deep garage house sounds over super heavy bass and a quiet horn selection. The song is quite wonderful and calming due to the nature sound effects.

I'll Give You All My Love uses a lovely flute melody over a house styled vocal sample. This song can do numbers on the dance floor. Lovely is one word to describe to this song. Linda Hood sings in such a lovely voice and follows the harmony perfectly.

DJ Sneak ‎– Da Pimpdoggy single review

DJ Sneak ‎– Da Pimpdoggy is a disco house record perfect for the dance floor. These are undoubtedly some upbeat dance floors cuts. DJ Sneak was in his prime when he released this EP in 1995. He practically ruled disco house in Chicago back then.

DJ Sneak uses his signature Sneak-y style on All Over (My Face)! by sneaking a couple of borrowed vocal samples over a set of tribal drums. The song starts off with an extremely long intro which turns quickly into uptempo beats and chords. Here the intro uses a lot of buildup. The song uses a groovy guitar track which is where those groovy chords come from. The bass is very low. You will dance your ass off to this on loop. Some people think the song starts off kind of boring as the intro is too long and bothersome. That is their interpretation. However that does not prevent All Over (My Face)! from being a top house banger.

Because Your Love Ain't True powered by a loud thunderous pultruding kick drum beat which is backed by the occasional muffled jazzy saxophone. However the vocal samples can hardly be heard and are inaudible. But that does not stop this song from being a house banger.

Che-Chez Fame is an old school house tune which is a classic banger to this day. This song used to do numbers on the dance floor in Chicago. This song will bring back those good memories of those good times on the dance floor. A faint piano sample can be heard playing faintly in the background. A French vocal sample is used also.

DJ Sneak ‎– Smokémon album review

DJ Sneak ‎– Smokémon was a parody of the popular children’s anime series and franchise Pokémon released on cassette in 2000. Smokémon is a nice funky house mix from one of Chicago’s best disco house DJ. The groove keeps going all the way through. DJ Sneak uses his signature Sneak-y style by sneaking a couple of borrowed vocal samples over a set of tribal drums, Latin music, and the style of jacking. The style and sound of this album are reminiscent to Derrick Carter and Terry Mullan.

Hoes N Disco is a percussion driven electronic song which is quite repetitive and bouncy. However the song gets annoying and repetitive rather quickly. The song uses that catchy deep house sound which captivates listeners to enjoy the song.

DJ Sneak pays homage, tribute, and respect to the New York City electronic scene on the song East Coast Stompin. That is where the New York City electronic sound comes from. Heavy bass can be heard pultruding and pounding in the background. The song also uses that catchy deep house sound.

Lil Sin - My Life album review

Lil Sin has been gaining notoriety and respect with his new album called My Life as of late 2020. The album has certified street bangers such as Now Life Matters and Knew Dat. You will not want to miss out on purchasing this album as each track is a classic. His album is what’s trending in San Antonio rap these days. His album is blazing on these streets.

The album has that new school rap sound very much similar to the drill music coming from Chicago. Trap beats meet the sound of southern rap.

Life Matters is a song where Lil Sin expresses the desire to change as a human being. Lil Sin expresses the desire and will to change Now life matters. Make the change that is necessary when life matters. The concept and message of this song is that all life matters.

Lil Sin expresses the desire and will to change in these lyrics. Read the words to his lyrics below.

Now life matters
Now I must do and must be willing
To do the change that is necessary
I must be willing to change
Make the change that is necessary when life does matter

Leave Me Alone is about Lil Sin’s experience in the music industry. The mood for the song Leave Me Alone is quite mournful. The song has a soul sampled used.

Lil Sin has experienced the fame, fortune, greed, lust, and betrayal in the music industry. He’s suffered enough. The road has been rough since the first day of his career. He has been independent since the beginning. Day by day, poster by poster. Fans get closer.  He gave the music industry everything he had including his love and blood. Lil Sin fell in love with music at first sight. He thought he would never leave. In the middle of the song is where Lil Sin claims music to be downfall. He left his children to take long trips and tour across the world.

At first his vision was kind of blurry. Now he sees clearly. His life is good and he’s living free. Nothing but family and homies. Ain’t got no enemies.

Knew Dat is a rap song filled with trap beats over the new school rap sound very much similar to the drill music coming from Chicago. Trap beats meet the sound of southern rap on Knew Dat. Knew Dat serves as a bragging rights song similar to Come On Man. It represents his status in the music game. He’s been doing music for a long time now.

Twinspan - Erratus album review

Twinspan - Erratus is a heavy electronic rock filled album with 16 new fresh breathtaking tracks for December 2020 on all digital platforms. Twinspan has definitely improved their sound and craft since their first album. The production sounds more polished and less distorted. This album leans more towards an emo metalcore sound than their last album. Each track is insane. Stasis is one of the singles and best songs off the album. However the band calls this album a very sad album as there are many sad songs such as Proclamation Emaciation, Lobotomized, A Rift in the Cluster, and Plastic Faces. There are little surprises sprinkled here and there.

Stasis is driven by hard edged electronic rock. Twinspan tells us everything will be alright during the song. The song seeks a change for better things. Stasis also deals with growing up.

How many nights spent up in that attic before the band can say they’ve had it? A thousand nights in makeshift bedrooms with thousands minds with little headroom. They now live with regret. Smokeless nights with shadowed tears. It's been like this for several years. These lyrics search for a change for the better. “Singing/Woah to shameless me/Maybe once for history we can all change to be/The end of misery.” The end of misery is the theme for this song.

These lyrics explain how things have been going on for years now. “Maybe once for history we can all change to be/Smokeless nights with shadowed tears/It's been like this for several years/And I was almost done/Before it had begun”

Stasis was the first song Twinspan wrote after getting back together from a lengthy hiatus. They just felt Stasis was a strong first single which is why they shot a music video for the song. Stasis was the first single they made.

Proclamation Emaciation is lead by a fiery lead guitar. Proclamation Emaciation deals with mental abuse, corruption, and self-destruction. You can feel the angsty vocals.

You can also feel the anger within their lyrics. These lyrics explain that you can’t fix something once you’ve destroyed it. “You can’t diffuse a bomb/That’s already gone off/You can’t prepare something that you’ve destroyed” No coincidence here.

Satyrs on Saturn is led by high energy sound and hard metalcore. You can feel the angsty vocals. This song also could have been a single as well.

Prelude to the Autopsy of a Smooth Brained Vertebrate opens up with a few old fashion bells which quickly transition into a treble reduced and distorted electronic soundscape. Notice how those synths are very much distorted. Various vocals samples can be heard towards the very end.

Melo-D ‎– The Turn Fable album review

Melo-D ‎– The Turn Fable is a classic hip hop album which consists of turntable maneuvers, percussion, and breaks. You will love his scratch styles on the turntables he uses. You can tell that Melo-D is musically inclined due to his great ear for timing. He puts on his own touch of hip hop flavor. One could call this album a turntablist cassette tape. The sound is not laid back at all. It was to get mixes like this back then. Beat Junkies are the best!

Various ‎– Scion Summer Sessions CD Sampler album review

Various ‎– Scion Summer Sessions CD Sampler was a free CD given out at the Scion display during the 2003 International Auto Show in San Francisco, California. The CD was packaged in a cardboard sleeve. URB Magazine was responsible for releasing this sampler. The album included everything from tech house to downtempo future jazz. The beauty and sound of this sampler has been very much overlooked. Scion was coming with some good CD samplers during the early millennium. Scion Audio/Visual opens up a path that connects creative artists and avid listeners.

Jazzanova - That Night is a calming slow future jazz composition. One way to describe this song is truly fantastic. Zero 7  - Distractions (Madlib's Ynq Remix) uses a mixture of future jazz and tech house. The song uses such a perfect balance and combination.

Aquanote - True Love is one of the most beautiful songs off this album. Zoe’s vocals are what make this song beautiful. The feeling of this song will take you away. The song uses such lovely bongos and violins. Not to mention electronic beats. The rhythm of this song is so sexy.

Charizma & Peanut Butter Wolf ‎– My World Premiere single review

Charizma & Peanut Butter Wolf ‎– My World Premiere is one of the most rawest yet lyrically fierce hip hop/rap singles of 1996. Peanut Butter Wolf was in his prime when he produced this Charizma & Peanut Butter Wolf single. The beats coming from this single super dope, phat, and fresh! You do not want to miss out on a chance of owning this single. If you love Big L, then you will love this single. The single includes the competitive battle rap songs My World Premiere, Top Notch Competitor, and Methods (Fresh For '86).

Now most of these songs were recorded prior to 1995 and did not get released until 1996 when this single came out. This was the first release from Stones Throw Records which would pave the way and make a blueprint for their hip hop groups and artists to follow in the future. Yes, this was first release on Stones Throw Records.

My World Premiere is one of Charizma’s best battle rap songs and the most rawest yet lyrically fierce hip hop/rap song of 1996. The song is known for using trademark signature thick hard boom bap beats and having that live sound. Noise in the background adds to the dopes of this battle rap. Charizma sounds very much similar to Big L on this battle rap song with his flow and rhyme scheme.

The song begins with the memorable classic lyrics “Fly Sporadic/Let’s get dramatic because I’m new with no static/New with no static”

The echo drop at 1:08 is what makes the song dope. The echo drop gives this song an edge of suspense and climax. Here is how the echo drop begins. “In a B-Boy stance/I’m in the smog all alone/Alone, alone” The word "alone" echoes twice faintly. His echo lasts for 5 seconds until the 1:13 mark when he starts the second verse with the lyrics “When I didn’t have a mic I rapped on headphones”.

These lyrics are what make Verse 2 so dope and thrilling.

In a B-Boy stance
I’m in the smog all alone
Alone, alone
When I didn’t have a mic I rapped on headphones

Now the way he says "peace" at the end is just absolutely amazing. Nobody will ever pronounce that word as good as he did, the way he did.

Now these are the words and lyrics which sure enough make My World Premiere a classic and memorable battle rap song.

Fly Sporadic
Let’s get dramatic because I’m new with no static
New with no static

In a B-Boy stance
I’m in the smog all alone
Alone, alone
When I didn’t have a mic I rapped on headphones

Attention ladies and gentlemen
It’s hard for me to swim
So I don’t dive in

I put two hands together like 12 o'clock
So applause
Cause we all came to see Charizma throw

If rappin' was pool, I'd hit the 8 ball in off the break!

You can enjoy some sweet sounds of classic hip hop as Methods (Fresh For '86) uses beats smooth and groovy like peanut butter. The song has a psychedelic feeling because the song uses trip hop beats. Now these are some psychedelic trip hop beats. This song was way ahead of its time! Charizma was so def and strong on Methods (Fresh For '86).

Methods (Fresh For '86) is known for these classic yet somewhat memorable lyrics.

Who said that real hip hop don't sell?
Me and my whole crew bought two copies of Raising Hell
They talk about Kobe, but Kobe ain't got nothing on me

Top Notch Competitor is one of the most lyrically competitive battle rap laced with such fierceness over a looped clarinet sample. A looped clarinet sample what gives this song a classic old school hip hop feeling and edge of jazz hop. The looped clarinet sample might be annoying to some but that does not prevent this song from being a dope battle rap. The lyrics are on point. Peanut Butter Wolf produced and recorded Top Notch Competitor with Charizma in 1992 at a dub studio.

These lyrics from Charizma showcase his rhyming ability as a lyricist and battle rapper. “I get enough static from the old records in the attic/And I collect dough from what I’m pickin’/Yo, I’m not in a fraternity/So don’t step to me at a show”

Now Top Notch Competitor has lyrics that are similar to the battle rap My World Premiere. There is much similarity with the lyrics. One can that Top Notch Competitor was an early demo for My World Premiere. Here are some examples in comparison to how the lyrics and words are similar to each other for both songs.

I am sorry, my friend
I left my rhymes in a shoe box
A week later I opened and it was Timberlands

Fly Sporadic
Let’s get dramatic because I’m new with no static
