Play - Us Against The World album review

Who remembers the album Play - Us Against The World? If you were a child, tween, or teen during the beginning of the 21st century, then you will probably remember the female Europop group Play. Play came from Sweden, the breeding ground for tween/teen Europop groups such as ABBA, A-Teens, Supernatural, and Ace of Base. The album is nothing short of sweet pop sounds and love ballads with that early '00s sound. This album is a nostalgic trip from the early part of the millennium. Play - Us Against The World was released to the world in 2002.

If pop ballads and love songs are not your cup of tea, then this album is not suggested for you. The album is nothing too special as these love songs have material similar to what you have before by love songs from other artists and musicians. Female Europop group Play takes the cake on their own album.

Hopelessly Devoted is a non-discreet love song about how a girl is in love with a boy only to have her heart broken by him. She ends up being hopelessly devoted to him.

There's no gettin' over that boy. He broke this girl’s poor heart. She cried her eyes out. Now she is heart broken. There's no gettin' over that. She is just a fool who's willing to sit around and wait for him. Can't you see? There's nothing else for het to do because she hopelessly devoted to him. There's nothing to hide she he pushed her love aside. Her heart holds on to the end.

Play lets us know it’s them against the world on the song Us Against The World. The song has that early 00’s pop sound and vibe. Play's 2001 hit song Us Against the World was featured virtually everywhere in the early '00s. The song was featured in the Mary-Kate & Ashley film Holiday in the Sun and Disney's TV show Lizzie McGuire.

There is nothing better than to talk to you. If you have a problem, Play will be here for you as it’s them against the world. There is no one else that can say this. It's us against the world. They wonder if we are meant to be. The song is a testament of true love. No wonder this song became a kid pop sensation.

Disco Hippie was written in the year of 2000 before their debut album Us Against The World was completed. This song is where Europop meets disco. The song is a man whom Play refers lovingly to as “disco hippie” who is electronic gadget freak that is obsessed with electronics.

To these girls, disco hippie is a cute man. The disco hippie is a man who is an electronic gadget freak. Lyrics from the chorus “Disco hippie got a world in his hand” refers to how he always has an electronic gadget in his hand.  Play makes a reference to this when they sing, “It's the same/So strange like a game or a boy/You really got me going” This is also referenced in the chorus as well.

CHORUS:
Disco hippie got his head in the sand
Disco hippie got a world in his hand
Suppa sonic technotronic machine
Disco hippie you're da man

The girls of Play want to dance with him. They make this vocally clear when they sing at the very beginning of the song, “C’mon, girls!/Let's dance!” Disco hippie, you're the man.

I Don't Get Down Like That is about how a girl tells a boy that she is taken and is already dating someone else. She does not get down like that or play any sort of games. Yet somehow this boy can take ‘no’ for an answer and constantly keeps on bugging her out in the world.

These lyrics explain how this girl don’t get down like that.:

I told you the scenario
I made it crystal clear
I spelled it out from A to Z
But which part of no don't you hear?

I told you I'm already taken
And that's a move I won't be makin'
I made a vow I'm never breakin'
It's a matter of fact that I
Don't get down like that
Ya know I've got a one and only
And you don't really even know me
But every day you try to phone me
And I never call back cause I
Don't get down like that

The boy made a move at the movies where she and the girls were at. He tried to call and paged her too. She was already getting tired of him at this point. She don't play and never strays. You'd best believe as it's not her way to deceive.

These explain clearly what happened during that event.:

At the movies with my girls and me
You made a move, thought I didn't see
Then you look surprised - Don't you even try
You tried to call and ya paged me too
I think I'm gettin kinda tired of you

I'm Gonna Make You Love Me was their song which featured Chris Trousdale of Dream Street. The song was a moderate hit single for the group in 2001. This song has that early 00’s pop sound. This song is about a girl who does everything in her power to make a boy love her. She does everything for him to show him that her love is true. She’ll sacrifice for him and always do what's right for him. This girl is going to shower him with love and affection.

Is It Love is a short but sappy love song. It’s nothing special of what you’ve heard before or already. The lyrics are simple and very kiddy. No wonder this song became a kid pop sensation.

Remember To Forget is a forgettable love song that holds no weight compared to the rest of the songs on this album. The lyrics are simple and very kiddy. Remember To Forget and Is It Love are the worst songs off their debut album.

Conga Squad ‎– XXX Superstore EP EP review

Conga Squad ‎– XXX Superstore EP is a primary example of dirty disco house music due to song titles songs as Cumshot and Mr. Big. Those songs are what make this EP provocative and explicit. Who knew that Belgian electronic music could be so explicit or provocative? Electronic music from the country of Belgium never fails to disappoint. Each song is a guaranteed house banger! You not want to miss your chance on listening to this vinyl EP. Porno house meets disco house on this Conga Squad EP.

Cumshot is a dirty disco house music song with climatic feeling and provocative nature. The title says it all. A looped vocal sample from a female having an orgasm during sexual intercourse used randomly is what makes this song so explicit, provocative, and climatic. Around the 3:30 mark is where you can hear a couple having sexual intercourse. Cumshot is some real porno house. Porno house meets disco house on the song Cumshot which is why you can feel a sense of euphoria when you listen to this song.

A handful of congas are used over processed dance beats and uptempo electronic synths. Conga Squad is known for using multiple layers congas in their songs.

Mr. Big is an example of some real porno house. Here the title says it all. A looped vocal sample from a female having an orgasm during sexual intercourse used randomly and the vocal sample from explicit, the first episode of the first season of Get Smart is what makes this song so explicit, provocative, and climatic. Four words to describe this song are explicit, provocative, climatic, and funky.

The intro to this Conga Squad song uses a vocal sample from the first episode of the first season of Get Smart. "Mr. Big" is the first episode of the first season of Get Smart which originally aired on September 18, 1965. That is why you can feel an old school retro vibe.

A man named Mr. Big asks another man named Max what is happening with their next movie. Mr. Big also asks Max about where the large voluptuous breasts on a woman who happens to be in their next movie are. This woman has a shapely curvaceous figure which include voluptuous breasts. Max asks Mr. Big to clarify on what he means about “big tits” before he gets interrupted by Mr. Big.

Here is what was said during the intro.

Max: Hello?
Mr. Big: Max, Max. It’s Mr. Big.
Max: Yes.
Mr. Big: What’s happening with our next movie? Where are her big tits?
Max: What do you mean “big tits”? We didn’t talk about big-.
Mr. Big: I mean “big tits”. Big big tits.

However this is one of the more funky songs off the EP. More funky horns and beats are used in this particular Conga Squad song. A handful of congas, bells, tambourines, and shakers are used over processed dance beats and warm bass.

Alien Disco Fever uses heavy auto-wah features and several vinyl scratches all over the place. One thing is for sure is that Alien Disco Fever is a quirky disco house song.

Conga Squad ‎– The Revenge Of Dr. Gonzola EP EP review

Conga Squad ‎– The Revenge Of Dr. Gonzola EP is a funky upbeat disco with songs such as the mellow provocative Let Me Phonk 2 U, futuristic bass driven dance-oriented The Nice People,

Let Me Phonk 2 U is a funky upbeat disco house song is warped warm electronic bass and guitar chords. Let Me Phonk 2 U is wordplay on the terms “let me talk to you”, “let me make love to you”, and “let me fuck you”. Who knew that Belgian electronic music could be so provocative? However the song is not too explicit as some other disco house songs are. This is tame in comparison to those other disco house songs.  Of course the song gets annoying quickly as the same vocal samples used over and over again. But this is electronic music so that can be expected.

The Nice People uses groovy bass from a funky guitar. That groovy bass is reminiscent of 70s groovy bass. Now this song will remind you of some of Daft Punk’s earlier works from the 90s and 00s. The Nice People is a futuristic bass driven dance-oriented electronic house song.  Surely this song can do numbers on the dance floor.

Juicy uses several congas all over the place since this a Conga Squad song. Congas over lively electronic synths are what is used throughout the song. A handful of flanger effects are used between the 1:29 mark and the 1:55 mark. Surely this song can do numbers on the dance floor. Juicy uses interpolations from Junior Jack - My Feeling.

Satin Jackets ‎– Back In The Days EP review

Satin Jackets ‎– Back In The Days is one of the more overlooked EP’s from German music producer Tim Bernhardt. This EP did not gain much notoriety or recognition. This EP got overshadowed by other electronic releases during the early half of the 2010s decade. 'Back In The Days' is a great piece of modern disco, funk, and electronic house.

The synthesized horns are what make the Original Mix of Back In The Days even better than all those other remixes. Rich grand piano chords is what makes this song have such a beautiful heavenly lounge vibe. Also there is a perfectly executed break-passage at the 1:45 mark with the drum. Funk meets the heavenly sounds of jazz, electronic house, and disco on Back In The Days (Original Mix) which is why you can hear all of those funky guitars and rich piano chords. A bit of reverb is added to the brass sections. The track gets especially good once a slight reverb is added, elevating the track to a whole other scale.

Days Like Candy (Salta Mortale Remix) is one of those songs that will send you into a deepened trance that is everlasting. Overall Days Like Candy (Salta Mortale Remix) is a perfect piece of modern disco, rock, and funk. Those electronic keyboards chords hit with pure perfection along with a classic violin selection.

The original version of Days Like Candy [Days Like Candy (Original)] is just as good and almost as perfect as Days Like Candy (Salta Mortale Remix). However this original is not as upbeat or eloquent as the Salta Mortale Remix is. However this song can still manage to do numbers on the dance floor or in a lounge. Days Like Candy (Original) has a perfect lounge vibe.

Bumbaye includes a handful of distorted crushed synths over bass notes, Afrocentric based drums, and a horns selection similar to 70s jazz over a looped acappella. Bumbaye has that beautiful Afrocentric sound from the motherland. Rick wanted us to get up dance to this song.

Can't You See is a mixture of sultry 70s soul, deep disco house, and lounge jazz. Those funky guitars, Afrocentric drums, lively vocals, and rich piano chords are what make this Rick Wade song perfect. Those rich piano chords have a lively lounge jazz vibe to them. Rick Wade ‎– The Angry Pimp EP EP review

Rick Wade ‎– The Angry Pimp EP is fill with sexy grooves and deep house vibes. The EP showcased the more slick and sexy side of Rick Wade. Songs such s Angry Pimp, Players Theme, and Prime Time.

Angry Pimp is a unique deep house song due to the key progression and chord progression which is used. The keys and chords transition from B minor to a A minor and revert back to B minor on a BAB form. The song is played in B minor for the most part. Angry Pimp uses the same chord progression as Lil Louis & The World - I Called U (A Series of Events). A whirly smokey keyboard uses some of the keys and chords from that Lil Louis song. Rick Wade used a sample of Poinciana by Milton Hamilton on Angry Pimp. The key progression and chord progression are copied from that song also.

Players Theme uses a sexy sensual deep house groove with those bongos, dubs, synths, violins, and bass. Those violins were key to the groove as violins made the groove classic. Some of the synths sound similar to Lipps - Funky Town.

The way Rick Wade uses those smokey electronic synths from a keyboard are sick! Some of the synths are looped throughout various parts of this song. That is why this song has a smokey feeling. Prime Time was included on the 2008 release Harmonie Park Revisited 2.
