Daniel J. Lewis ‎– Four For The Floor EP EP review

Daniel J. Lewis ‎– Four For The Floor EP is a beautiful yet underrated UK garage house EP. The beats used on this EP had a tremendous presence to them. Most of the synths are quite hypnotic and repetitive. There is a bit of static used in some of the production which gives an edge of garage house.

That's Right uses some of the heaviest garage house beats which have a tremendous presence throughout the song. Although some of the beats sound a bit fuzzy and have static to them of course. Most of the synths are quite hypnotic and repetitive on this song.

Sax Life is a beautiful jazzy UK garage song backed by tribal house beats and a jazzy saxophone. That jazzy saxophone is super jazzy, climatic, and sexy. You can hear a barrage of djembes, congas, bongos, and shakers inside of those tribal house beats. UK garage meets tribal house and jazz on Sax Life. The song uses syrupy fusion of jazz, house, and garage.

Danny J Lewis ‎– The D Sound EP EP review

Danny J Lewis ‎– The D Sound EP has that classic Danny J Lewis sound! And no, the D Sound I am talking about is not Detroit techno. The D Sound I am talking about is that deep garage house with a jazzy sound and timbre.

Language Of Love has that classic Danny J Lewis sound by having that deep garage house with a jazzy sound and timbre. Language Of Love is deep garage house at its finest. Those keyboards chords are super thick. Such a lovely garage house song. Unity is one of the deeper deep garage house songs on the EP due to how the pitch shifts with the electronic keyboard chords. The song asks for people to come together in unity.

Mood II Swing Productions Presents Wall Of Sound – Penetration EP review

Mood II Swing Productions Presents Wall Of Sound – Penetration some of the most futurist intrinsic house tracks to date. This Mood II Swing stands out particularly because a handful of dubs were used on this EP. Highlights on this EP are Penetration and 8 Ways To Knock Down The Wall.

Penetration uses a mixture of pure deep house and dance as the song played at an extremely fast tempo. This is one of those deep house tunes that gets better with every listen. Penetration uses some of the heaviest house beats which have a tremendous presence throughout the song. The song Penetration was engineered and mixed by Balo. Mood II Swing fans call Penetration the very best of the best.

8 Ways To Knock Down The Wall uses some slightly distorted shakers over super thick house beats and ethereal synths. The tempo for 8 Ways To Knock Down The Wall is 123 BPM. Now this song is played in D#min which is D minor sharp noted performed at a higher in pitch by one semitone.

I Need Your Luv (Right Now) (Lem's Church Mix) one of their more subtle lo-fi songs as the volume is set to a more subtle level and not as vibrant. Obviously a dub was used. Nevertheless the mix stands out as there is a pure deep house presence throughout the song. This mix of I Need Your Luv (Right Now) uses some sick filtered bass.

I Need Your Luv (Balo's Banji Dub) uses an echo chamber filter which has an angelic presence. You known what they say, there's nothing like 90's house.

Jovonn – Deep In 2 The Ground EP EP review

Jovonn – Deep In 2 The Ground EP is one of the lesser known and forgotten releases from Jovonn which has been sorely overlooked. The songs on this EP will want make you shake your ass and dance. Gotta Party has some infectious keyboard chords and notes. The semitones are not too sharp either. The chords and bass are what specifically make Gotta Party a wonderful Jovonn song. Walkin Bass uses some super thick groovy and heavy bass over a muffled dub filter of sorts.

The Drifters – The Struggler single review

The Drifters – The Struggler is a sweet and short soulful 45 stomper out of Gary, Indiana. This 45 single was released after their long-lived tenure with Atlantic. Sadly the single was not distributed properly due to a lack of distribution. Which is why the single did not chart. Now the single is worth owning and purchasing if you are fan of old school doo-wop.

Point Blank - Bad Newz Travels Fast (1999 version) album review

Not many people know this but the original Point Blank - Bad Newz Travels Fast album was supposed to be released by Commerce Street Records on June 1999. Sean Tompkins financially backed the album and owned the album title. Mike B produced a majority of his album. Point Blank recorded different music for that version of Point Blank - Bad Newz Travels Fast instead of the 2000 version of Point Blank - Bad Newz Travels Fast which is why the tracklist is different.

However the 1999 version of Point Blank - Bad Newz Travels Fast was not released on Commerce Street Records. Point Blank wanted to release that album on Commerce Street Records but realized he still owed Big Tyme Recordz an album as stated in his contract. So Point Blank and Russell Washington of Big Tyme Recordz had to pay Sean Tompkins for the album title and name. Point Blank took a few of the songs he recorded for Commerce Street Records with him. Such as Wrecking and Go Live were recorded for this album. That is why Point Blank - Bad Newz Travels Fast was released on Big Tyme Recordz.

However Sean kept most of the songs he produced for Point Blank. Sean used some of the tracks on those Doc Holliday mixtapes and other on compilations from Doc Holliday Productions during the 2000s.

Go Live was also put on a compilation called Young Southern Playaz ‎– Dirty 3rd which was released in 2000. K-Sam of P.K.O., Point Blank, Down and Dirty Clique (DDC), and UNLV all had guest spots on that song. The song has that fast paced New Orleans bounce sound. It don’t get no liver than this. Mr. Joshay sure knows how to get people listening with his raps and his smoothness. He has finesse and that Texas swang. Lil Ya gives the song that New Orleans bounce sound and Dirty South sound. Happy Perez and RicĂ© engineered the song.

Death Wish Incorporated album review

The Death Wish Incorporated album is one of the best Flint rap albums of 1997 that never got released. Only those who recorded at Boomin Studios off Dort Highway in Flint, Michigan know about this album. The album displays a wide variety of dark horrorcore grotesque rap songs such as Lifelinez, Visionz 96, War Gamez, and To Die For. You have songs such as the dark morbid Lifelinez, insane insanity in Visionz 96, and the rock influenced song To Die For. Death Wish Incorporated is Marc Steele, Titan, Randy J, and Leathaface.

Lifelinez is one of the more darker morbid Death Wish Incorporated songs. The song has a grim sound and vibe to the fact that this Death Wish Incorporated is death themed. The song uses samples from the movies Blade Runner, Pulp Fiction, and Akira. This song was recorded in 1996.

The song starts off a sample from the movie Pulp Fiction which asks us, “Oh I’m sorry. Did I break your concentration?” Leathaface goes first. Leathaface is bringing pain to your brain from the cells that he crushes. He remade your mind from his lyrics like angel dust. Leathaface is goin for broke. That’s why he busts on niggaz. He’s out cold because his temper is about to explode. 17 rhymes is what he unloads. You the music he makes because he makes. You’re scared of his style because he is a deadly lyricist.

Evil like a reptile. He’ll mutilate your whole body and burn it up in a lake. It’s a must that he makes muthafuckaz believe. Only God he trusts. His lifelines are past time. There’s no remorse or grief. Best believe his body is numb. So all he does is smoke weed in a room by himself and asks the Lord for forgiveness. Leathaface is an alcoholic doing devious shit such as murderous shit. That is what the lyrics “devious shit like murderous shit” mean. Now they’ve got Leathaface locked behind bars. Now his eyes bleed tears from the permanent scars.

T-Gram would rather be dead. It’s his wish. He is lead by the blind. So can you hand him his head? He wants to feel you from inside. Ride his lifelines. Then we play suicide. T-Gram wants to die. Would you die for him? Close your eyes. T-Gram is a mystery. He wonders how much time it will take to leave this crazy place.

He would rather lose himself to find himself but he’s still lost all by himself. Ovadose asks Heaven to send him an angel. He is goin thru a thang. Weird and insane is what he is. T-Gram is never the same. He needs some therapy. He’s been in therapy but therapy is not helping him. He would rather be alone since he’s been alone. Don’t leave him home alone. There’s something really wrong. Look at him in a coffin where his body lays.

What would life be without a real life rhyme? There would be no cold crushin’ or no disfunction. But he is still here. He got AIDS and a child on the way. He asks the Lord to take him as he doesn’t want to be here. He honestly doesn’t care as he won’t survive. You haven’t got a clue what he’s going through. What would life be without a real life rhyme? What would life be without lifelines?

T-Gram asks for his death wish to be granted. The song ends with samples from the movie Blade Runner and a flat line.

Visionz 96 is a follow-up to the King Hood Cykoz classic Visionz of Insanity from 1993. The 1996 version of Visionz of Insanity uses much heavier bass and reverb. The 1996 version features Bruce (Leathaface), T-Gram (Ovadose), and Randy J.

Visionz 96 begins with the 1993 version of Visionz Of Insanity.

The 1993 version Visionz Of Insanity is the song which calms down the mood down for this album. This is the song which calms the album down. Visionz Of Insanity is surprisingly calm and tame compared to the other songs on this album. The flute ensemble is what gives this song a calm vibe.

The song is about how the members of King Hood Cykoz are having immoral thoughts about visions of insanity. Visionz Of Insanity is a posse cut with all members included. The song Visionz Of Insanity is similar to Geto Boys - My Mind’s Playing Trick On Me which is not a surprise because King Hood Cykoz was highly influenced by the Geto Boys and Scarface. Gangsta rap meets the sounds of horrorcore rap on Visionz Of Insanity. The song uses a bit of reality rap.

The song starts off with some static over thunder, lighting, and rain. You can hear low quality sound in the static yet the production has a high value. DJ Clay knows how to give a low quality song a high value in production.

Lunatic is having visions of insanity. It’s so clear to that he is not a normal man. He is going crazy. Wondering if he will live to see the next day is something he often thinks about. It might be a fatal reaction to the lives he took or a harsh punishment for not living by the book. Lunatic is slowly turning into a mad man.  He needs some help. No one goes to check on him. Who gives a fuck about a though with a half deck?

A deranged maniac is what he feels like. Suicidal is something he feels too. He describes himself as an insane maniac. Hazardous to his own health.  He’s not a normal man. A vision is what it started off to be. The only way to get out of this insane life was to slit his throat.

Titan was 19 when he wrote his verse for Visionz Of Insanity. Titan wonders if his father is his kin or worst enemy. He was kicked out his parents house because he wasn’t going to school. This happened when he was 19.

Flashbacks of suicide attempt back in 1991 are what made Titan want tear up his whole house to find a gun. He wanted to end his life. He prays for death. Him and his girlfriend were fighting constantly during that time. Their only method of communication was by phone. So he would often drink heavily. This is his way of coping. There was no way to get out this insane life for Titan.

So he grieves. Titan rolls up his sleeve. He cuts his wrist. Tragedy occurs as Titan shot himself in the head as he committed suicide. 4 cykos are staring down at Titan wondering what had happened. T-Gram died on wax from insanity.

Cocaine and thoughts of seeing his father in the morgue are what’s giving Bruce Moore visions of insanity. Cocaine has affected his brain. It seems like he’s all alone. He went through so much in his life. Every other second he sees an image of him dead. He hears voices calling him. Bruce tries to ask for help but his family doesn’t seem to care. His family calls him a crazy lunatic.

Bruce talks to himself in the cemetery. He asks his father for help but his spirit can’t hear Bruce. Bruce is staring at his father’s tombstone. There’s no more hope left. Bruce has to face reality. The reality of his father not coming back from death.

Marc Steele had visions of bungee jumping into Niagra Falls. Suicide was on his mind. Marc asks the Lord, “Why does thou vest me with the life that I could never live? You give the things I take and take the things I want to give.” Sometimes he wonders what he is living for.

The lyrics “I’m having thoughts of bungee jumping into Niagra Falls” are a reference to how suicidal he was when he was alive. That’s why he was having visions of suicide and suicidal thoughts. He goes to sleep at night and prays he does not wake up no more. He has a father who does not love him. His mom is a bitch who sells her pussy for cocaine. Marc had no money or food. The only reason he went to school was to eat food.

His girlfriend hates him because she lost him to another man. He wishes he could tell her he loved her. He doesn’t care about nobody else. What has become of Marc?

Bruce Moore was dead at birth with a murderous ambition. He’s legally insane and manic depressive. Doctors want to keep him away from society. He spent 3 long months in a mental asylum. Thoughts of a suicide are in his head. It started in the year of 1989 when his father Keystone “Kimosabe” Moore died.

He grabs the 12 gauge to let the pain out. He proceeds to blow his brains out. Of course he is alone as he kills himself. Bruce grabs the chainsaw and takes his insane rage out on somebody else because his mother never helped him out when she should have helped him.

Bruce has the mind of a psycho (cyko) and a serial killer. Bruce’s life is a seesaw. His best friend is a chainsaw. He uses the chainsaw and takes his anger out on somebody else. This is all because his mother never really helped him out. She would sock him in his mouth whenever he would mention his father. Bruce stays away from his family to keep their lives out of danger.

Bruce tells everyone at the end that their visions are to have immortal thoughts and to kill you next. They also have immoral thoughts. King Hood Cykoz in this bitch.

After the 1993 version of Visionz of Insanity ends, the 1996 version kicks in with some super haunting heavy bass and reverb. The first line of the song starts off with T-Gram saying, "My minds playin tricks still in 1996"

The 1993 version of Visionz Of Insanity samples Funkadelic - Mommy, What Is A Funkadelic and Geto Boys - Mind Playin’ Tricks On Me. Most of the song relies heavily on the Geto Boys sample though.

The song To Die For was hugely inspired by Italian gangsterisms and rock music which is what the group was aiming for. The song uses a rock sample from Guns N Roses. Gangsta rap meets rock on the song To Die For.  Honestly this is the best Death Wish Incorporated song next to War Games, Lifelinez, and True To The Game.

Not many people know that Randy J got into an accident while on a police chase. Randy J got into a high speed chase with police and wrecked his Eldorado which T-Gram rapped about in his verse on To Die For which went, "If it ain't one thang, it's another in Flint/Randy J got into an accident"

The most memorable lyrics to this song were as listed below. Marc Steele and T-Gram had the most memorable and quotable lyrics in their songs.

(Marc’s lyrics)

True to the game
Get the money
Fuck the fame that I’m gaining
Still out here slangin’
Ain’t complaining
Nuts been hanging since birth

It’s do or die
Why did you lie and tell them cops where I stay?
I took you in
Trust you like kin and at the end I’m betrayed
There’s no way you can get back the respect you stole
That’s why you died to me like a cop and violate your parole

I heard you talked a lot of shit but never brought it my way
Round Table Ballers be shot callers

Still out here slangin’
Ain’t complaining
Nuts been hanging since birth

(T-Gram’s lyrics)

Got me playing with life
There’s nothing better to do

Meanwhile Popa Preach keep your nose clean
As figure of speech

I’m loosing all faith
I said I wanna die but now keep me safe

I ain’t got it all
Sometimes I feel like I’m a disappointment to ya’ll
Truth goes slow and low
It’s hard to tell I exist
Nothing that illegal holy water won’t fix
Vengeance toys, dangerous games me and my boys play
If I really wanted this I would move the barrel away
I try to hide my vibes, close my eyes to realize I’m still

Add complicate and confusion with my conscience, get it?
If it ain't one thang, it's another in Flint
Randy J got into an accident
Do you remember my soul?  Wishing I wasn’t born
Got me fighting a storm
Titan could die in a storm
For what? To die for my poems and demos

Got me playing with life
There’s nothing better to do
Who with the desire to play with fire these days
Unafraid of AIDS, razorblades, and thangs
I’m flyin to heaven in Legz El dawg
But before I go there where’s the graveyard?
Meanwhile Popa Preach keep your nose clean
As figure of speech because he knows I blow freaks
So pass the grass and let me hit it
And go flow on fantasies with No Limit, ya dig?

By hope
I can’t cope
You can’t cope
Different strokes for different folks to die for

True To The Game was recorded as a diss track aimed towards Project Born in 1997. Project Born wrote "Fuck King Hood" on the walls of Boomin Studios. Bruce flipped out when he saw that and recorded True To The Game at Boomin Studios off Dort Highway.

Porsha - s/t album review

Porsha’s self-titled album was another R&B/soul album with an urban edge. Her singing leaves much to be desired. Included on this album is the soulful song Nothing Stays The Same and Someday.

Here is how Porsha’s self-titled album came about.

She landed her first local record deal with Royal Records, which set the platform for her signing with No Limit Records. Porsha discovered a love for music at an early age performing in her community. She landed her first local record deal with Royal Records, which set the platform for her signing with No Limit Records in 1997.

No Limit Records was dabbling into the R&B/soul market after the success with Sons of Funk and Magic. They decided to have Porsha (Keryl Silas) release an album since she was already singing hooks and choruses for other artists on the label. The album was executive produced by Master P and others. She wasn’t well-known in the mainstream, but she was known in her hometown as The Porsha, a nickname given to her by her coach, Master P.

She was slated to be the first true R&B singer on the record label under the stage name Porsha. However this did not happen. Porsha’s self-titled album was another No Limit album that never was. Her self-titled album was supposed to be released on No Limit Records on July 20, 1999 but never got released. This was because other albums from other No Limit artists were being pushed and promoted. Her debut album was simply just not a top priority for the label. Sadly No Limit dropped the ball by not dropping this album. Master P should have expanded his No Limit R&B/soul roster as they had some much talent. Honestly Porsha should have dropped an album.

Unsurprisingly lot of No Limit albums that were advertised didn't come out during that time for whatever the reasons were. A lot of these covers were designed before the albums were even recorded. Master P was putting out albums like an assembly line. Porsha’s self-titled album was one of those albums that was constantly advertised in No Limit albums throughout 1997-1999. Her album was no longer a priority for the label as No Limit stopped advertising her album in No Limit albums by 2000 despite being the main female vocalist on almost every No Limit album from 1997-2000.

However there are some people out there who claimed the album dropped and was sold underground on the down low. There are some people who they have heard and previewed her debut album.

Porsha is currently married to a football player and coach named Stephen Silas. She remains out of the limelight and social media. Today she runs two company called Claim It Productions and BEQUEST MUSIC LLC which inspire young people to follow their interests. Porsha is now Keryl Silas.

The soulful song Nothing Stays The Same features production and sultry vocals from label mate O'Dell. Both of them had energy in their vocals. You know the saying, “Nothing stays the same on a lonely road.” Nothing Stays The Same is a powerful song with a strong message. The song serves as a beautiful understanding about love.

Nothing Stays The Same was one of the most played music videos of 1999 on BET and was advertised in the Billboard Magazine. This song was one of No Limit’s greatest R&B/soul hits.

Nothing Stays The Same came from the platinum 1999 soundtrack "Foolish" and the 1999 soundtrack Hot Boyz. The song was also used in the movies Hot Boyz and Foolish. Now some of you may remember this song which played at the end of the Hot Boyz movie when Kool was reminiscing about the memories of his girlfriend Lashawna whom he had lost.

It's foolish to hide the pain because nothing can shield from the rain. We all know nothing stays the same. So stop holding it in. Don't play no games.

Everytime O'Dell closes his eyes, he starts fantasizing about Porsha and him being all alone. All of their hesitation gone. O'Dell loses control more each day. These feelings just won't go away. He’ll give Porsha what she needs. Love, touches, and ecstasy. He can’t go another day like this because it's foolish.

Everytime O'Dell closes his eyes, he starts fantasizing about Porsha and him being all alone as evidenced during Verse 1.

[Verse 1: O'Dell]
Everytime I close my eyes
I just start to fantasize about you and me all alone
All our hesitation gone
Let's stop the foolish games we play, we play
I lose control more each day, each day
These feelings just won't go away
I'm screaming just to make you stay
All give you what you need
Love and touches, ecstasy
I can't go another day like this
Cause it's foolish, foolish

Both O'Dell and Porsha realize it’s foolish to hide the pain. They know nothing stays the same. Their pain cannot be hidden.

Porsha wonders why she should hold her feelings inside. It's hard for her to realize that. She has to stop wasting time if she wants to make O'Dell all hers indefinitely to a new level of fidelity. It's hard to look him in the eyes. Porsha cannot hide her feelings. She had felt a sense of chemistry when they first met.

Porsha sung the most poetic lyrics in her verse which went as follows:

When we first met I felt a chemistry
Like it could be more between you and me
It's hard to look you in the eyes
Cause my feelings I cannot hide

Someday is a sad heartbreaking breakup song. Porsha sings about how someday she will break up from her current relationship with her lover. Someday she will take her love back. This is because her lover does not know how to treat here. She will take her love back. She tried to save their shared love. However he acted like he didn’t care. She asks her herself everyday. All they do is fuss and fight. She was his only friend who stuck beside him through thick and thin.

Now someday Porsha will be gone. Then he will realize how she tried to save the love they both shared. However he acted like he didn’t even care. She asks herself why she stays every day. Every day she asks herself this. All they do is argue, fuss, and fight. Someday Porsha will fly away because her current lover does not know how to treat her. She will travel to a place far away to reclaim her dignity that was stolen from. Her dignity was stolen from him. She was his only friend who stuck beside him through the thick and the thin.

Someday is a song which was produced by Ke'Noe and had featured Ke'Noe. The song uses calming 90s R&B/soul style of instrumentation in the production. Ke'Noe is a genius producer due to his production style.

CCA ‎– One Life 2 Live album review

CCA ‎– One Life 2 Live is one of the tightest gangsta rap albums from Gary, Indiana and is one CCC’s best albums. CCA is the truth. From Chicago to Indiana. The songs Coke and We All Gotta Die are highlight tracks. Sadly CCA’s success was short lived in their tenure as they all were incarcerated for various crimes each ember had committed.

Concord Affiliated (CCA) explains how callousness and ruthless of street life on No Luv. The streets have no love and no mercy for anyone. This goes for everyone. Here is an example of the most memorable lyrics to this track:  “I’mma catch a case before I catch a ride in a hurst/So fo' sho' you gots to go cause I'm dumpin' first”

Coke deals with the drug usage of cocaine. That white powdery substance. Not too many people know this but the song Coke was used by Gary Law Enforcement to bust members of CCA (Concord Affiliated) for conspiracy to selling cocaine which is why C-Mack and E.G. are currently incarcerated for conspiracy to selling cocaine. The beats and synths are raw as hell.

The song We All Gotta Die explains how death is inevitable and why catching any dream you’re after is nearly impossible to chase. CCA is the truth. This is one of the realest CCA songs ever made. Here is an example of why catching any dream you’re after is nearly impossible to chase: “It’s nearly impossible to catch the dream ya chasing after/for every step forward feel like a hundred backwards”

Master P - Ghetto Postage album review

Aspiring No Limit artist and basketball player Master P released another solid effort of an album called Ghetto Postage back in 2000 even thought the album was lacking in lyrical ability. While there were some catchy bangers, the skits were awful and unnecessarily needed. Most of the featured artists held down his album with their own ability and creativity. This album is not as sophisticated or whimsical as his previous albums were as the album gets too hedonistic at times. Highlights for this album his are Bout Dat, Golds in They Mouth, Soulja Boo, Always Come Back to You, and Doo Rags.

Included on this album is the bouncy tune Soulja Boo. The song has a catchy chorus with those super hyper New Orleans bounce beats with a touch of rap.

The way Master P makes Erica feel make her want to run with him. Every single day. She loves the way he makes her feel. Erica needs a soulja boy ready to go to war. A fire boy with 20's (20 inch rims) on his car. She needs a ride or die thug that can work. When Erica needs some love he won't be far. That’s why this soulja girl is gonna keep it real.

Master P is the soulja boy that will never let you go. If you gotta man, he ain't got to know. So tell your friends keep it on the low, ya heard? You and your girls come follow him. Master P is the ghetto Bill Gates. He’s got a couple diamonds with a mouth full of gold. Platinum on the wrist and a Bentley in the drive. He learnt in the bricks how to slang and survive.

Master P was clearly ripping off the Hot Boyz hard on the song Doo Rags by copying and mimicking Mannie Fresh’s bounce beat patterns and staccato drums.

Pockets Gone' Stay Fat showcased the last glimpse of the old Master P before he switched up style in 2001 on his Gameface album. There is speculation floating that Pockets Gone' Stay Fat was a diss specifically aimed at Big Tymers.

Snubnoze - Pimp 4 Ever album review

The Snubnoze - Pimp 4 Ever album has some of the hardest most sophisticated beats over haunting dark soundscapes for a Memphis rap tape from 1995. The music has shit that will get you hooked. Blackout produced this pimpin’ ass classic. Blackout was killin' that Korg X3 on this Snubnoze album. He does no wrong with his production. The best songs on this Snubnoze album are Guice & Eli In This Bitch!, Kick It, Ain't No Love, and Still Smoking.

Ain't No Love has some deep dark bass over chilling haunting G-Funk synths. Notice those whines. This is honestly one of the best songs off the album. This is one of the more whimsical sophisticated street-savvy songs off the album.

A motherfucking pimp. A nigga with a mastermind coming at you one time at the county line of Selby County. Watching drug fiends smoke crack by the ounce. The Eastside is the land of the OGs. The only niggaz making money was the Snubnoze Click. There ain’t no love in the motherfucking city or street. Niggaz acting shitty. So blaze up a Swisher Sweet.

Thug From Around The Way one of the darker climatic tracks which gets annoying very quickly. The hook line constantly repeats "once was a thug from around the way" over and over. This exact phrase explicitly makes this song annoying quickly. Some of the most memorable lyrics to this song are “Pop goes my 9” and “Pop goes my 9 and you drop to the concrete”. The phrase “Pop goes my 9” is an example of classic gangsta rap.

Blackout used some the best laid back beats over chill calming vibe on Still Smoking. The rhythmic bongos he used fit in appropriately with the vibe and sound. Blackout does no wrong with his production.

Guice killed it with his fire lyrics on Guice & Eli In This Bitch!. The most memorable lyrics to this song are “T-H-U-double G, thats what I be/And I get paid cuz I’m true to the game”. Guice & Eli In This Bitch! was produced by Blackout.

Ski Mask Troopaz ‎– Ski Mask Troopaz album review

Ski Mask Troopaz ‎– Ski Mask Troopaz is a classic Memphis rap album which constantly gets overlooked often. This album leaves everything to be desired from the triplet flows to creepy lo-fi synths to the thick beats. Unsurprisingly this is one of those darker Memphis rap albums. Ski Mask Troopaz are one of the hardest underground rap groups out of Memphis, Tennessee known for using untypical distinctive flows. Talk Yo Ass Off, Change Of Plans, and Sticc Up are highlights from this album.

Ski Mask Troopaz marked their way onto the music scene with one hell of an esoteric intro. They clearly give away any indications of them being killers who wear ski masks and act as a troop. Such brutal honesty here. There is no guts, no love, no murder, and no glory here.

Ski Mask Troopaz are blasting murder assassins. They are gonna make you crush your skull and blood be soaking up the floor. Ringing shots out from the Glock and leave the victim in the cut. A bullet has gone through your temple. Hollow point ballers rush the scene.

Playa Dre the crooked type killer aka the Black North Memphis Rambo is a nutcase. Lemons are in Dre’s scope. Prepare for the evilest look in his eyes. He’s dragging a body away from the robbery he committed to fill them up with holes. These niggas must die.

Gimisum Productions is leaving your body numb with their music and bullets. Strapped with the Tommy guns. Niggas be actin' like bitches. So these niggas must die. Killamac is feeling so high off the fry that he smokes when he is blowin' that dope. There is no guts, no love, no murder, and no glory here. Killamac plans to go buck on a bitch.

The beats and heavy synths at the beginning of Sniperz will give you heavy chills. The song uses a breakbeat sample from Scarface - Sosa's Theme. Of course those warm synths from beginning to end give this song a haunting foreboding vibe and nature. Those warm synths blend in perfectly with the bass. The Ski Mask Troopaz are snipers that out on a mission to kill, murder, and slaughter.

Shit is about to hit the fan as the Ski Mask Troopaz are snipers that out on a mission to kill. They have berettas which do anything it takes. Time has come to detonate a bomb. So a bomb is placed outside a bank which Ski Mask Troopaz plans to rob. Ski Mask Troopaz walked into the bank and said, “Welcome to Vietnam!” It’s do or die. One of the hostages screamed and pulled off a mask. They attempted to make a run for it. So fuck the police. Don't make Ski Mask Troopaz act a motherfucking fool.

Talk Yo Ass Off is one of the most violent and lyrical songs of theirs which is notable for having thick drum patterns and untypical distinctive flows. The message which Ski Mask Troopaz conveys in this song is “Talk yo ass off, we gon blow yo ass off”.

Oh shit! Here comes Rez dropping them bombs full of that redrum. Creeping up on behind you is a nigga with that motherfucking shotgun. Playa hatin' niggas make him mad. That's why every night he make some bitch stare into his ski mask. He laughs from the motherfucking gun blast. So prepare to meet your maker in that motherfucking body bag.

Rez was clearly into that gang banging shit as shown in these lyrics below. The North Side of Memphis is what he claims. If you are not from North Side of Memphis, then Rez will break your fucking neck.

I'm from the north so nigga claim your motherfucking set
If you ain't from the north then I'ma break your fucking neck

Z-Dogg claims them Hill Top niggas ain't shit to be fucked with. Hill Top niggas are sticking up and stabbing you bitches. Making hoes real quick. Hill Top niggas are on the block selling quarter pounds of that weed. That fire ass weed. So stand your ground. Playa hatin' niggas better not come around. Them Hill Top niggas don't fuck with you playa haters. Z-Dogg's in the house kickin' it with the Gimisum Productions clique. The Hill Top click is in this bitch. They will leave you in a ditch. They’ll smack you like a punk ass bitch.

Z-Dogg, them Hill Top niggas, and Gimisum Productions are going all out by wearing flashy expensive clothing. Read these lyrics underneath.

We sportin' them gators, and makin' that shit get greater later
We tote non stop we sportin' them Locs, big boy blunts we smoke
We on the track we sellin' that crack, keepin' our pockets fat

AK is that real nigga stepping in to your front door strapped with the 9mm cocked back just in case. He loads up the 9 with the hollow tips and 16 round pistol extra clip ready to kill. He called up the killers from the Gimisum Productions clique. Step on up. You're next in line.

Next he ends running through the crowd shooting things in the air with his 16 round pistol speaking loud and clear. Look in his eyes and you'll see there is no fear. Your ass will end up lost with the rest of your body in a ditch. He will leave your body in a ditch.

The rhyme scheme is perfect as the words at each end rhyme with each other. “AKA speaking loud and clear, look in my eyes you'll see no fear”

That nigga So Serious is on a mission like a soldier with a bulletproof vest all across his chest. His trigger finger shaking ready for the timing to release a slug to your neck. No crosses or no losses. Redrum milla killa hangin'.

Playa Dre is about to place a 9mm handgun at point blank range to the middle of your eyes. He shoots to kill like a 50 tec with a hollow tip grip. You better use the police as a shield when he strikes. Shot after shot clip after clip round after round. He finna die let you know you can't skip a real trill motherfucker. Ain't no rushin' at me when you're fuckin' with So Serious and the Ski Mask Troopaz Buckin' at them duckin' and dodgin' fraudulence. So Serious gotta touch and bust them hoes cause there's always a body fillin' up another ditch. So Serious never shows anyone mercy.

Things get nihilistic on Change Of Plans as the song is very evil sounding and just plainly grim. Nihilism and realism meet each other on Change Of Plans. Vocal samples from the Blood In Blood Out movie give the song an even more graphic touch. Calling this song dark would be an understatement.

One thing that stands out about Sticc Up is the opacity and density of those snares. Kingpin Skinny Pimp produced and killed those beats. The bass line is up to synchronization with those snares you hear.

Mayne these niggas done fucked up. They need to pay Lil Debo his fucking cheese (money). Evil shit is in his mind currently. Too many folks done crossed him. He could be concerned less about serving jail time as he more concerned about making money.

Lil Debo goes out to murder somebody. He drags their ass out to the fucking cut. Then he takes the body out to the ditch. The Homicide Squad from Memphis Police Department is looking for evidence. However they didn't find any fingerprints. Eventually police catch up to Lil Debo to apprehend and arrest him for his crimes.

Lil Debo’s mother is sitting in the courtroom feeling sad. His mother brought him into this world. She wish she never had given birth to Lil Debo. A gangsta baby boy living in these fucking streets trying to make ends meet. Living day to day experiencing poverty. Every day some shit ain't right for him. Every time he look around a young brother's gettin' harassed by these crooked corrupt cop ready to blast on a nigga's ass. Just waiting for a case of police brutality to happen.

Ski Mask Troopaz - Let's Go To War album review

Ski Mask Troopaz recorded a follow-up album to their debut album called Let's Go To War which was released in 1997. Let's Go To War was released on cassette only and CD later. Mista Dre from Doom Shop Productions produced Let's Go To War. Sadly the audio quality and production is in poor low quality compared to their first album. Quality of the audio is what sets this album apart from their debut album. Ski Mask Troopaz – Let's Go To War was a flop compared to their debut album. Yet unique songs such as Cheeze In My Pockets and Live To See Another Daywhich help make this album stand out.

Cheeze In My Pockets is one unusual Memphis rap song due to the usage of a steel drum which is played throughout the song. Cheeze In My Pockets is one of the more unique songs on the album due to choice of instrumentation used. This is one of the higher quality songs on the album.

The song Live To See Another Day explains the dark roads which lead to death. However the shortness of this Ski Mask Troopaz song leads to a sense of incompleteness. There are so many killers and drug dealers in Memphis. They just don’t know how to clean up their act. This man became a victim to alcoholism. He was robbing and sometimes mobbing on people. He was not thinking about falling down the dark road leading towards alcoholism. Inevitably he started drinking excessive alcohol. Death was soon inevitable for him as death would catch up to him sooner or later.

The song Puttin In Work uses some unique gangsta beats over dark roaring bass. Of course the vocals and lyrics are difficult to decipher due to the low quality.

Carmike - Comin At Yo Ass album review

Carmike - Comin At Yo Ass is one of the hardest and darkest Memphis rap albums from 1994 next to Tommy Wright III - Runnin And Gunnin. This is classic Memphis rap music from Prophet Entertainment rapper Carmike. 90s Memphis rap scene was straight up horrorcore and gangsta shit. DJ Paul and Juicy J made some cold beats back in the 90s. Now Carmike raps mostly about life growing up in Memphis as nearly most rappers from that city do. The highlight hunts on this album are Let's Run A Train and Comin At Yo Ass.

Gangsta Shit is a wonderful gangsta rap track filled with action packed drama and true horror. Gangsta Shit explains how Carmike turns winter season into glock season which for Carmike is open season.

Carmike has got a nine-millimeter handgun in his drawers. So think before you step up to the pimpster. Don't let that be the motherfucking reason you got killed. Carmike quickly turns winter season into glock season which ultimately leads winter season to become killing season. Which for Carmike is open season. Kingpin Skinny Pimp got the funk in the trunk. Carmike be dicking down on every last one of you hoes. Putting his foot dead in your ass,

The song and title track Comin’ At Yo Azz is one of the catchier songs on the album. The song explains exactly how Carmike is coming for/at your ass.  His rhymes kick like mantras. DJ Paul and Juicy J made the dope ass beats for the title track.

The song and title track Comin’ At Yo Azz is one of the catchier songs on the album which uses catchy lyrics during the beginning which go as “Carmike, Carmike, comin’ at yo ass, comin’ at yo ass”.

[Intro]
Carmike, Carmike, comin’ at yo ass, comin’ at yo ass
Carmike, Carmike, comin’ at yo ass, comin’ at yo ass
Carmike, Carmike, comin’ at yo ass, comin’ at yo ass
Carmike, Carmike, comin’ at yo ass, comin’ at yo ass
Carmike, Carmike, comin’ at yo ass, comin’ at yo ass
Carmike, Carmike, comin’ at yo ass, comin’ at yo ass
Carmike, Carmike, comin’ at yo ass, comin’ at yo ass
Carmike, Carmike, comin’ at yo ass, comin’ at yo ass
Carmike, Carmike, Carmike
Carmike, Carmike, Carmike

Carmike compares himself to the king of boxing, Muhammad Ali,  at the very beginning of Verse 1 with these lyrics of his.

[Verse 1]
I floats like a butterfly, I sting like a bee
I’m as rough and rugged as a motherfucking tree
One, two, three and don’t forget four
Niggas that I flex, have them wrestled to the fucking floor
One pop, two pop, sweat starts to pop, then I drop

Carmike floats like a butterfly and stings like a bee. He is as rough and rugged as a motherfucking tree. Carmike has niggas that he flexes on wrestled to the fucking floor. Kingpin Skinny Pimp kicked in the door and he started to wreck shop on them hoes. Was that psychic shit that 2-1-1 must’ve hit? Kingpin Skinny Pimp picked Carkmike up for another 211. He goes “Are you alright, my nig, my nigga, my man?”

There goes Mrs. Claudine. She likes Carkmike in that pimp riding. Now pimp riding ain’t for fuckin’ shorties. That pimp riding is for certified playas and macks. These bitches are constantly choosing and using.

Carmike drop off smooth spleens on your portrayal of your defense. He really doesn’t like Christmas because he is the damn Grinch. It’s easy to break you off something foul. His foot broke off in your ass. His rhymes kick like mantras. Carmike is that gangsta, realsta, and the pimpsta. You’re dealing with the mack, jack. So roll up another endo sack and buy another pint of yak. Welcome to the underground in the cells where Carmike dwells. Better be down with this motherfucking pimp sound.

Let's Run A Train is one of those junt that everyone bumped back in the day.  This is that song that you play when you are running a train. The way Carmike and Noid put their flows on one beat is just sick.  Juicy J made those dope ass beats.
