Mateo & Matos ‎– Images EP EP review

Mateo & Matos ‎– Images EP possibly the best EPs and releases from Mateo & Matos. The Images EP is one of the most overlooked Mateo & Matos releases which did not receive the attention truly deserved. Which is sadly the case with a majority of Mateo & Matos releases. This Mateo & Matos uses a more tribal house sound blended within the influences of world music.

Searchin' uses a tribal house based sound backed by some world music. The song uses beautiful shaker swhich fit in appropriately with the tribal house sound. This Mateo & Matos song did not receive the attention which was truly deserved.

Feel It (Dark & Deep) is one their more darker and deep songs hence the title. Feel It (Dark & Deep) also uses a tribal house based sound backed by some world music. The song uses beautiful shakers which fit in appropriately with the tribal house sound. This Mateo & Matos used processed beats through an electronic filter of some kind. The melody comes in at the 1:34 duration mark. The way those electronic chords hit are pure perfection and serenity. The part where male vocals sing "Sunshine" pitched down begins at the 3:21 duration mark.

To The Limit is another one of those lesser known Mateo & Matos songs which hardly got any notice. This Mateo & Matos song uses mach harder beats than any of the other songs on the EP. A bit of Rhythmic Noise is used.

YMC – The Last Stop E.P. EP review

The Last Stop E.P. is a YMC EP is uses a more techno based/oriented sound. That’s how this YMC release stands out from the rest of those YMC releases. Songs such as Transatlantic, Subway, and Last Hour are highlights for this EP. This is a perfect example of smooth deep house music.

X-Con - Back On The Block album review

X-Con - Back On The Block was one of the widely known upcoming No Limit albums from the 2000s which was advertised in 504 Boyz - Goodfellas. Back On The Block had the old school down south flava. X-Con to showcases his original style and interesting wordplay with his very own album. X-Con was fire. You’ve got you deep realistically conscious tracks such as Life Goes On, It Don’t Get No Better, and Still Holding It Down.

The album was originally supposed to be X-Con - Back On The Block but was later changed to Black Felon - Back On The Block to avoid confusion and copyright infringement from another artist by the same name. That X-Con had a minor single called Who Lil Mama. Master P came up with the name Black Felon. The album was scheduled to be released in 2001 during the 2001-2002 fiscal year by No Limit Records with distribution through Priority Records which was their distributor at the time. However the album remained unreleased. Here are the reasons why.

Master P was busy trying to get his son Lil Romeo's debut album off the ground and shift his focus towards promoting that album. That is why X-Con - Back On The Block and Samm - Enemy Of The Street went unreleased. X-Con was no longer a priority for the label. Timing was the issue with X-Con’s Back On The Block album.

"I was finally ready to make my solo debut and at the time, Master P was busy trying to get his son Lil Romeo's project off the ground. I felt like it was time for me to move on and it was a mutual agreement, we didn't beef." explains X-Con.

The message of It Don’t Get No Better is to stick together no matter how tough the circumstances may be and to not quit easily. Master P displays some great storytelling skills with his raps.

Master P has see a lot of thugs and souljas lose their boots in the mud. For example, he explains the case of 19 year old serving prison time for a drug related case in Verse 1. He used to rhyme. Once your gone, dawg, your gone. Master P seen lil momma in tha club shakin’ that ass everyday. Now she telling Master P  she needs some milk for her children. See some of these hoes are bitches too.

X-Con’s definition of riches is much different for the average person. He is vicious like a 200 lb Rottweiler? Who’s gonna stand in front of this 200 lb Rottweiler? His mission is to kill all the competition to where there is no competition. To kill them all like roaches. Make it hard to swallow. No Limit all some soldiers. Black Felon still yellin habitual offender. Ya'll niggas better keep a distance from the wrath of this blender.

X-Con and Lil Flip explain how and why it’s their time on Itz Our Tyme. X-Con and Lil Flip came with a brand new sound as both of them show how people do it in the South. X-Con showcased his original style and interesting wordplay. The song is played in tune of Soul II Soul - Back To Life.

X-Con leaves his hometown of Baton Rouge, Louisiana to head straight to Houston, Texas to meet Lil Flip. He grabs a box of Black and Mild. Then he puts gas up in the whip. X-Con discusses how Lil Flip’s The Leprechaun album sold 130,000 units underground. He goes on to boast about Lil Flip’s underground success. X-Con makes it understood that they are not going anywhere. He makes his own rules in the game. He keeps it gutter. X-Con is so old school.

There ain’t no rules to the dope game. Lil Flip paid his way. He is pulling up in a Jaguar jeep. There are a couple of hoes and a couple of gats. Drugs are in his vehicle. So don’t get out of line.

X-Con is so outrageous. He goes to the mall to spend every dime of his. What’s the use of not ballin when the money is made? He’s got the money to spend. His spending spree will not stop until his last dollar is spent. That’s what’s going down.

Deez Streets is a heartfelt all too realistic song about the casualties of random street violence.  There are too many soldiers getting murdered on deez streets. Krazy of 504 Boyz makes an appearance.

Two For One - Let’s Go To War album review

Two For One - Let’s Go To War is one of the many albums which were advertised in No Limit’s album through the 1990s all the way until 2000. Their entire album was produced by KLC of Beats by The Pound as many No Limit albums were during that time. These ladies went hard on their tracks. The Mirror Don't Lie is one example.

Two For One - Let’s Go To War was one of the many unreleased albums from No Limit Records which is highly remembered by No Limit fans. The reasons why Two For One - Let’s Go To War was never released and remains unreleased is because Beats By The Pound left No Limit Records due to contract disputes over royalties and Master P selling part of the No Limit Records catalog to Universal Records. Two For One - Let’s Go To War currently belongs to Universal Records as they hold the rights.  No Limit fans were still interested in hearing the album even after 2001 when the album stopped being advertised.

Two For One was similar to New Orleans rap twin duet Ghetto Twin. Two For One was a duet which consisted of two sisters who are Rechelle Davis and Rechonda Davis. Two For One was known as 2-4-1, 2 4 1, and 2 For 1.

The Mirror Don't Lie explains how Two For One is the hardest rap twin duet on the tank. The Mirror Don't Lie also talks about coping with death. Are you down to die when its your time to die? The Mirror Don't Lie was recorded in 1997 for the Mean Green Presents Major Players Compilation.

Are you down to die when its your time to die? The mirror don't lie. Can't you see it in your eye. The mirror don't lie till the day that you die.

Two For One is harder than a rock and triller than a mobb. Two For One will get you slapped. Step back two steps as they came to rap. They often rap. Not to mention singing and modeling. To the eyes obscenity is mental. Control it gently. No watered down hoes. Two For One is them twins that know anything goes when fucking with them. Two For One ain’t down with no bustas, and they ain’t down with no hoes. Before you fuck yourself, you better slow your roll. TRU soldiers bust caps and lead. Yell and take charge.

Two For One tore up Nobody Make A Sound with Mac, Magic, and Fiend. We got 2-4-1 up in this bitch. You know what I'm sayin'? These No Limit Soldiers committed a robbery during the song.

And if any of you motherfuckers move,’ y’all gon get your fuckin' heads blown off. Ya heard me? Alright. Nobody move and nobody dies. Don’t think about breathing as they bring forth a line of fire to your ass. Everybody's gonna die tonight. Magic patted the victims down. 2-4-1 duct taped the victims. And if anybody moved Fiend disintegrated them.

Magic says, “Alright, I'ma pat everybody down. So keep your heads to the floor. Whoever in charge of this bitch better point me to the door! I'm lookin' for the loot, so me and my people can leave. But any noncooperation and one of you bitches gon bleed. Now I want the rest of y'all to watch them motherfuckers bleed. Throw down your rollex, your Gucci's, your Versace, your new Jordan’s and your cellphones. And anything else that cost over a hundred dollars.”

They call him Magic because he is known for making his victims disappear. He is about that kind/type of drama. He’ll tell you, “I'm 'bout that drama.” Magic tells everyone, “Now everybody lay it down, nobody make a sound! I got fifty fuckin' rounds!”

Lights are beaming and people are screaming. 2-4-1 is dumpin' in the clip with the triggers. 2-4-1 is gonna do your ass like Jason or either like Freddy. So you better get ready. The time has come.

The time has come. Niggas better know this ain't no motherfuckin' game. Mac got the M-1 wh eh borrowed from Big Ed. Don't got much time to tell about the murder tale to each one of y'all. You got what Mac wants. Either you give it up or he’ll split ya.

Nu Mood Orchestra - Nite Food EP is one of the most beautiful and underrated tech house EPs of 2001. Each of these tracks are essential bangers. The title track Nite Food will take you on a peaceful journey through tech house. The track has a nice groove and sick filtered bass line which is thumping. Deeper Moods is a very chill and blissful track due to the relaxing shakers, synths, and beats. Sadly this EP got overlooked and overshadowed due to the success and popularity of Daft Punk.

YMC Presents Nu Mood – YMC Presents "Nu Mood" E.P. EP review

YMC Presents Nu Mood – YMC Presents "Nu Mood" E.P. is one of lesser known releases from Nu Mood Orchestra and YMC. This EP got overlooked somehow. Even by YMC fans. The EP is filled with groovy smooth bass lines, thick kicks, futuristic blips, and heavenly ethereal synths. This YMC EP uses a jazzy touch of jazz. Orange Lady and Gibraltar are highlights of this YMC EP. YMC is so underrated.

Orange Lady is one of the most ethereal jazzy songs on the EP with futuristic blips and thick kicks. The bass is definitely thumpin’. Orange Lady is a perfect example of tech house. Jazz meets tech house on Orange Lady. Notice the saxophone sample?

Emanelle is continuation of Orange Lady as Emanelle picks up where Orange Lady left off. The song is back by thumpin’ bass lines and luscious handclaps which makes everything seem hypnotic.

Gibraltar is another one of those ethereal jazzy songs on the EP with futuristic blips and thick kicks over tribal and electronic beats. The bass is definitely thumpin’ and lively. Jazz meets tech house on the song Gibraltar. Notice the saxophone sample? Not so hard to miss.

YMC – Essentials album review

YMC – Essentials is an essential and quintessential piece of deep house that every fans of house music should own. A bit of acid jazz is used. The album is out of this world and will instantaneously blow you away. YMC’s sound is futuristic and ethereal. This is clearly some next level house music. You can expect to hear some top quality deep house production  from the Swedish deep house duo YMC on this album. YMC is so underrated and an  amazing overlooked deep house duo.

Shimmery keys and windy beats are make the track Last Hour stand out in such a beautiful manner with such perfection. Heavenly is one word that can be used to describe this song and that’s an understatement. Overall this song is incredibly deep. Fans call this YMC song a gorgeous house song.

Pheedback is a bit lo-fi for a YMC track but that’s just my opinion. The song will take you on a psychedelic journey. The delays on the piano are set at a perfect pace. Not too overdone.

Phuture Vibes has some futuristic vibes and sound hence the title. Quite similar to lounge music and dance music. Many YMC fans love the song Phuture Vibes. The song is played at a tempo of 124 BPM and is performed in G♭ major.

Bluesless has a sense of sadness for such an upbeat fast paced house song. The vocals fit in with the song perfectly. The lyrics are simple. Could this be my remedy? I was feeling bluesless. You're allowed a part of me around him with a shark net.

Steve Poindexter - The State Of Shock EP EP review

The State Of Shock EP by Steve Poindexter one of the lesser know acid house releases from Chicago, Illinois which is very much overshadowed. The EP uses some groovers that are perfect for the dance floor. A bit of techno is used in this acid house release. State Of Shock is hip house sounding track while Mental Problems is a very acid house sounding song. Highlights include Happy Stick and State Of Shock.

Happy Stick uses a beautiful set of toms and congas over bleak lo-fi synths and muffled electronic horns. The song also uses an interesting set of clavs. Now this song is an instrumental which does not use any vocal samples or lyrics whatsoever.

State Of Shock uses hip house beats produced by Steve Poindexter which has the raw basement sound precise as manic Acid Trax. State Of Shock uses a higher quality electronic soundscape than all of the other songs included on this EP which is why this song is a highlight along with Happy Stick.

Mental Problems uses a low quality retro sounding electronic soundscape. This song is not as much of a banger as State Of Shock and Happy Stick.

King JC - Ninety Six / The Supernatural album review

King JC - Ninety Six / The Supernatural is a legendary but forgotten Memphis rap album which people hardly even known about. The drums and bass are extremely clear despite the low quality production. King JC knew definitely what he was doing when he produced this album. King JC got skills on the synth. He put it down for the Southwest (Albuquerque, New Mexico) and Memphis. Nothing of his matched this level of darkness. One can see why the entire city was in love with this shit. Sadly this tape hardly went past the Memphis underground and remained unnoticed.

Moe The Terrible - Be Afraid album review

Moe The Terrible - Be Afraid is one of the most overlooked Flint rap albums of 1995. The album has a level of darkness and versatility not everyone can get with or understand. The beats and bass are extremely clear fitting perfectly with the high quality production. Moe (The Terrible) - Be Afraid is considered as very rare and obscure. The album Be Afraid was produced by Moe & Derrick F. If you’re a fan of underground hip hop/rap from the mid '90s (especially from Michigan), then you’ll love this album. Moe The Terrible sounds similar to Esham and Natas.

The opener, Another Bad Seed, was a song Moe first wrote after he served a 5 year sentence in jail. He explains what he does with in his hustles after being released from jail. Your typical gangsta rap from the 90s with a funky twist.

Another Bad Seed uses a hodgepodge of samples which include Prince - Let's Go Crazy, Zapp - More Bounce To The Ounce, and Tweedy Bird Loc - 187 Ride By. All these samples are used over some ghetto raw bass and unfiltered synths.

The opener Another Bad Seed begins with Prince’s song Let's Go Crazy. After the Prince sample ends, Moe explains that he is fresh out of jail from doing a 5 year sentence. The reason why he was in jail because he shot a motherfucker for talking shit. Getting his hustle on is a must. First he needs some pussy on his dick. He saw a crackhead bitch hanging up some paper. He plans on raping this crackhead bitch and then bailing. Then he heads to the North Side of Flint where he resides. Someone got shot. He doesn’t give a single fuck or regard to life as he is out to get paid.

He caught up with is cellmate from the penitentiary. They get high by smoking bud and drinking Night Train. Moe does his dirt by himself. Moe suddenly comments a drug related homicide by doing a forced entry of a fiend’s house and murdering everybody that was inside. That fiend was killed in the dark along with everybody inside.

Moe sounds like a Too Short wannabe on These Nutz. Moe must have been influenced by the Oak Town sound when writing this song. These are rhymes for your mind. The song is by some play heavy bass and groovy guitars which were interpolated from a James Brown sample. Now the song seemed to have been produced in a brusque rushed manner given how short its duration is.

Saturday Night Special is a more calm laid back and mature song which calms the album’s mood down. The song uses a jazz piano one would hear at a club, lounge, or even an orchestra. Moe decided to do something different by using jazz rap in this song of his which for him is very unorthodox. Saturday Night Special serves as an interlude and prelude to Pussy. Saturday Night Special used the piano sample from Digital Underground - Packet Prelude.

The song Pussy is another song which has a more calm laid back and mature vibe. And calms the album’s mood down. The song is backed by a delayed jazz piano, single horn, and organ. Moe decided to do something different by using jazz rap in this song of his which for him is very unorthodox. For some reason Moe uses a double delay feature with his vocals in this song of his. The song is provocative and sexually explicit of course. Moe talks about his experiences with having sexual intercourse.

Death Wish is the death themed song of the album. He talks about killing a person as a sacrifice. Clearly Moe has a death wish hence the title. For some reason Moe raps in a soft whisper as the beats are much louder than his vocals.

911 is the Scarface influenced gangsta rap song by Moe. The beats are so dark and the atmosphere is gloomy. Nothing of his matched this level of darkness. At least as a solo artist in Flint during that time. Darkness is what makes this song so fucking awesome. Dope is one word to describe this song. That’s how it is.

Life is a crime. So Moe rhymes on the edge. The hammer in his grammar packs like a sledge. Moe is closer to the ledge than he thinks or even realizes. He is always on the brink of becoming extinct. Niggaz die when they try to live fly. Slanging crack is the way to get by. The streets are mean. He has seen this several occasions. Niggaz get killed by fucking with a triple beam. Friends turn to foes. Gangs turn to cliques. Hoes turn to tricks.

Never will Mo slip if a nigga wants to nut up. Step in his face and get yo assed fucked up. Moe lives in a state of infamy  and has no love or regard for the enemy. You kill his homie, he’ll kill your whole family. Moe is crazy and he is aware of this. Don’t make him have to show this. He’ll blow up shit like a terrorist. Morris is his name and terrible is his game. He’s got a problem with life that won’t go away. Sometimes he just wants to blow motherfuckers away for no real reason. All because he likes squeezing the trigger of a 9 leaving stank hoes screamin’. Call 911.

Money and pussy is his only weakness. I think you outta peep this. Moe needs a hoe that is true to a pimp. Who won’t try to scam or extort him. Who won’t play him like a wimp. He puts bitches in bodybags. Call 911 because Moe The Terrible has a gun. One for fighting and one for fun.

Some of the most memorable lyrics to this song can be heard in Verse 1 which basically the entire verse.

Life is a crime
So I rhyme on the edge
The hammer in my grammar packs like a sledge
Closer to the ledge than I think
I’m always on the brink of becoming extinct
Niggaz die when they try to live fly
Slanging crack is the way to get by
The streets are mean
Many times I’ve seen
Niggaz get killed by fucking with a triple beam
Friends turn to foes
Hoes turn to tricks
Suspicion is wise
Gangs turn to cliques
Never will I slip if a nigga wants to nut up
Step in my face and get yo assed fucked up
Cause I take lives
I use guns, not knives
If you got a crew with you, no one survives
I live in infamy
Got no love for the enemy
You kill my homie, I’ll kill your whole family
I’m crazy and I know this
Don’t make me have to show this
Blow up shit like a terrorist
Morris is my name
Terrible is my game
Death and me are one of the same
I got a problem with life that won’t go away
Sometimes I want to blow motherfuckers away
For no real reason
Because I like squeezing the trigger of a 9 leaving stank hoes screamin’
Call 911

Some of the most memorable lyrics to 911 are these lyrics. Peep these lyrics out.

Life is a crime
So I rhyme on the edge

Life is a crime
So I rhyme on the edge
The hammer in my grammar packs like a sledge
Closer to the ledge than I think
I’m always on the brink of becoming extinct

Never will I slip if a nigga wants to nut up
Step in my face and get yo assed fucked up

I’m crazy and I know this
Don’t make me have to show this
Blow up shit like a terrorist

Slanging crack is the way to get by
The streets are mean
Many times I’ve seen
Niggaz get killed by fucking with a triple beam

I live in infamy
Got no love for the enemy

Am I homicidal or am I suicidal?
Niggaz walking up on me, you’re dead on arrival

Blow up shit like a terrorist

I think you outta peep this

Moe takes them out cold with his lyrics on Out Cold. People are scared of Moe’s unbearable style. He has a point to make with his lyrics. The beats are basic early 80s hip hop beats produced on an antiquated drum machine. The snares are on point though.

Tell 'Em Who Sent You uses Esham’s style of acid rap with the heavy reverb on the bells and piano. The song deals with Moe’s perception of reality. He discussed topics such as death, racism, violence, and American politics. Moe dares to speak the truth. Dark is one word to describe this song. That’s how it is.

One of the hardest yet most realistic hard hitting lyrics on the song are, “I dare to peak the truth/But to you it’s like a nightmare”, “Out time on Earth is coming to an end at a speedy pace/Death is in the air”, “You couldn’t possibly fell me/I’m on some other shit”. Those lyrics as just as relevant now as they were in 1995 when Moe wrote this song. He is sick of being depressed.

He also explains his current state of mind, thought process, and mentality with these lyrics of his. “I’ve got a fucked up mentality and personality/Which is far away(?)/From my perception of reality” These lyrics explain how far gone he really is.

Causin' Damage is one of the hardest songs on the album due to the loud beats, fast upbeat tempo, and Moe’s lyricism. This is a definitely a highlight for the album. Moe destroys everything within a 10 mile radius with his lyrics. This is not your typical rap song.

Somebody call the circus because Moe The Terrible is about to clown. He’ll  bring his tech and fuck up the whole town destroying everything within a 10 mile radius. He is not your stereotypical brother. Test him if you want even though you will end up being killed. Moe The Terrible is that rapper from the streets of Flint tearing shit up to the full extent.

Some of the most memorable lyrics to the song are these lyrics.

Somebody call the circus ‘cause I’m about to clown
Bring my tech and fuck up the whole town
Destroys everything within a 10 mile radius
Morris is my name
Terrible is my alias
Not stereotypical

Morris is my name
Terrible is my alias

Not stereotypical

Somebody call the circus ‘cause I’m about to clown

I may be short in size but I’m quick to scrap
I don’t give a fuck
I shoot a nigga in the back
For no real reason
Just something to do

I’m that rapper from the streets of Flint
Tearing shit up to the full extent

Moe gets deep on the song called This World. Moe dives into topics such as mass incarceration, prostitution, gambling, respect, money, lust, drugs, slavery, and political corruption. The song uses a looped piano sample over funky guitar chords which have a sad mood to them. A handful of soul and jazz samples are thrown in throughout the song.

Kill 'Em All is similar to Esham and acid rap. The song basically revolves around Moe The Terrible killing people. The production is quite mediocre but uses a sick ass bass line.

The closer and title track Be Afraid is one of the darker songs on the album.  He also explains his current state of mind and how his thought process works. Especially with his mentality. Moe dives into topics such as poverty, racism, political corruption, mass incarceration, prostitution, and drugs. He wants people to be afraid. Be very afraid.
