Tape Five - Tonight Josephine! album review

Tonight Josephine! is one of the more risqué and provocative albums from Tape Five which contains adult themes and suggestive situations. Titles such as Pantaloons, Bad Boy Good Man, Pousse L’amour, Dixie Biscuit, and The Flappers Delight are examples which prove how provocative the album is. Nevertheless Tape Five always comes in swinging with these beautiful electro swing masterpieces.

A Cool Cat in Town is about this lady who after a man who is a cool cat in town. She never stops because she loves chasing the dogs around. Notice how jazzy the chords, melody, and instrumentation sound. Tape Five intended for this to happen. The chords, melody, and instrumentation are what make this song great.

It's late at night while the dogs are sleepin’. You know what they say. When the dogs away, the cats will play. This foxy lady goes outside.  She's leaving the cave and the wheels are turning. People are dancin' on ice but the temperature is rising. She steps in the club and the walls are burning. There's a cool cat in town who never settle down because she loves chasing the dogs around.

There's a new kid around and she knows she is bound to be the leader of the whole rat-pack. She won't wait for the return of the mack. One day she's even heading for the crown.

The mice are playing when the cats are away. They're messing around unil they all start swayin'! Down in the club where the joint is jumpin'! The birds, the bees, and the hip chicks are swingin'! Believe me. There's a cool cat in town. She won't wait around for a new dog. She won't wait for a new dog who don’t likes some cats in town.

Bad Boy Good Man is one of the saucy provocative songs on the album. Bad Boy Good Man is about a bad boy who is a good dancer. Mr. Dmitri on the person on the solo clarinet.

The ballroom is packed with cocky girls wearing satin frocks and shining pearls. Ladies swoon as this bad boy clicks his fingers because this bad boy is the hottest dancer in the room. The ladies in the house are sayin' caramba! He’s a bad boy who needs to dance. If you don't dance, then there is no romance. He feels like dancing. So dance with him. First dance is always free.

Bebop is sliding down his back. He is never alone when he hits the sack. Swing's a thing with a ringa-ding-ding and he get wings when he sings. Ragtime, Rhumba, mambo, latin, samba, reason, and rhyme. He’s the reason you're divine.

The song Madame Coquette is about a young lady named Madame Coquette. Madame Coquette is a famous ritzy dancing queen from Charleston, South Carolina who has a dream to be a dancer.

Madame Coquette came from Charleston, South Carolina. She's doing the toot-toot. She was fantastic due to the elastic dance moves she made with her body! Now she is like a summer holiday living from day to day. She was young and had a dream to be a dancer. She was a famous ritzy dancing queen! Then a real big spender wearing a tuxedo comes into her life. Red lights were flashing and so were red flags. Champagne was floating. Her animation was a new sensation!

The song Pantaloons is about a female flapper named Josephine who wanders who is the fairest chick of them all is by asking her magic mirror who's the fairest chick of them all. The magic mirror tells Josephine to try something keen by telling her to get off her pantaloons. The subject matter of this song is quite provocative and suggestive but somehow Tape Five manages to keep the song from being to raunchy, obscene, or too explicit.

The song Pantaloons is an example of Dixieland jazz of the 1920. Similar to the jazz of New Orleans. Fans of Dixieland jazz will love this song.

Josephine wanders who is the fairest chick of them all is. So Josephine asks her magic mirror, “Magic mirror, on the wall, who's the fairest chick of them all? Is it the chick who is swinging dobedoo – do the do like Betty Boop?” The magic mirror said, “Tonight Josephine, try something keen! Soon get off your pantaloons! Get in your step-ins and then you will feel alright. A brand new cologne. Don't tie your skirt too tight! It makes you shake your leg to the magnetic waltz. Magic ballrooms won't play no schmaltz!”

The magic mirror tells Josephine to take off her pantaloons off in order to try something keen with her tonight. The magic mirror tells Josephine to get in her step-ins and then she will feel alright. The magic mirror tells her to put on a brand new cologne and not to tie her skirt too tight. Doing what was instructed will make her shake her leg to the magnetic waltz. Magic ballrooms won't play no schmaltz!

Josephine wanders who is the fairest of them all trying hard to be a jazz age baby. So Josephine asks her magic mirror, “Mirror, mirror up on the wall, who's the fairest of them all? Trying hard bedoo-bedee, be a jazz age baby?” The magic mirror said: “Tonight Josephine, stay on the scene! Real soon, get off your pantaloons!” The magic mirror tells Josephine to stay on the scene and get off her pantaloons real soon at high noon.

Dixie Biscuit is about trying cocaine. A “dixie biscuit” is a 20’s slang term for cocaine, which means that one is being asked to try cocaine as they have nothing to lose.

Come on everybody. If you're running low you know where to go. Let’s feel alive. I'm jumpin' jive. Gogo with the flow down to "basement joe" with your greenbacks and your Cadillacs. The latest craze of the dance floor days is right here. It’s “dixie biscuit”. There are things that can give you wings but will give you a rocket. Come and try dixie biscuit. You can't lose. So why not risk it?

When the lights are low but you've got the glow. Let’s do the Lindy Hop until we drop. The fillies fly when you feel this high. Just standing room at the boogie saloon. No jelly beans on the mezzanine don't hit the pipe if you ain't ripe. So blow your wig if you really dig, let’s lose control and let the good times roll. It’s all around the sight and sound. Fun is free if get dizzy with me, Don't put up no resistance. Come and try dixie biscuit.

A Bossa Love is a bossa nova jazz styled love song. A moonlight serenade starts playing in her head. The beauty of creation passing by. A sentimental journey with the sunshine in her hand. Wonderful reflections in his eyes. They dance until they hear that distant melody. A carnival of colours fading in. That special vis-a-vis in a seaside restaurant. Tonight she is flying high.

The Flappers Delight is about lady who wants a gentleman to be a ballroom blitz for her and is looking for romance. A rendezvous lead a flapper to a swanky place. She hears the sound of violins. Now let romance begin! Come on, darling. Sway with her. Waltz with her. Be a ballroom blitz for her. Shake her banana skirt. Big brass won't make a fuzz. Let's only care about the Flappers Delight! Ride with her. Get down on your knees for me. Get her in the mood for love. Fly her high up to the sky!

Tape Five - Vintage FM album review

Tape Five - Vintage FM has that vintage big band sounds mixed with that contemporary electro swing. This album is more upbeat than their other albums. This Tape Five album is a radio friendly sonic journey which takes us through selected decades of the 20th century.

Play Me Friday Night is a jazzy electro swing song for those searching for a dapper style. This is the tune that rocks your bonе.

If dapper style is what you’re looking for, flapper girls join in and scream for more! Step in and find someone to adore! If you wanna make a move or get lost in the groove, you can rely on Two-finger Joe when he unlocks the door!

The wrong time might be misery. Timing is everything. Monday’s out of sight. Tuesday just ain’t right. Wednesday’s out of tune. Thursday hits the doom. Play me Friday night! Come on folks, play it!

Now you’ve found what you’d been looking for. You got the key that opens up the door. Speak easy and don’t call out for more. Because you know what hits the score. It is written in the stars and sent from heaven above. It’s pure astrology. No real mystery!

English jazz meets electro swing on Somerset Freshness. The 1920s old English impressions give that away. Thus giving it that vintage jazz sound. This song sums up the Edwardian era in a poignant manner.

Play Me Friday Night has a lively horn selection which has its own essence and bravado. Tape Five manages to give the song that classic electro sound. Now the chords and melody resembles A Cool Cat In Town. Clearly Tape Five intended for this to happen with the chords, melody, and instrumentation. Just to listen to the production.

Tape Five - Swing Patrol album review

Swing Patrol incorporates the ragtime jazz of the 1920s, swing of the 1930s, and big band sound of the 1940s in one album. Ragtime meets swing and big band with a touch of modern electronic production. Tape Five always comes in swinging with these beautiful jazz masterpieces.

Geraldine’s Routine explains how this Italian male immigrant named Romeo fell in love with this dame from out of town named Geraldine. Geraldine was a stripper. Geraldine’s Routine is an extension of the reference to Romeo, who’s eponymous play was set in Verona, Italy. At the turn of the 20th century, millions of immigrants flooded America from all parts of the globe, including Italians.

There was a cat from Brooklyn by the name of Romeo. His folks came from Italy many years ago. One night, he met young Geraldine, a dame from outta town. When Geraldine was dancing she would bring the ballroom down.

Geraldine would wave those paws in the air and spin around like Fred Astaire. Then she would slip Romeo five and they jived. She lifted those puppies off the ground. She did swing those hips and shake them down to that snazzy jazz. That was Geraldine's routine.

Geraldine’s mother was a stripper and so was Geraldine She learned to strip at Mardi Gras, way down in New Orleans, Louisiana. Romeo was wacky. He was dizzy for this dame Geraldine. He learned a dance and got the chance to be Geraldine's new flame.

I Spy You is about this woman who has been spying on a man who she has her eyes set on.

This woman has been spying on a man who she has her eyes on for a long time. He spies on her back. This woman was the spy who never was but wanted to be. But if he never tries being a spy, then he’ll never be one. That is what the lyrics “But if you never try it, you'll never be” mean exactly.

Now she is watching him and everything he does. Naturally this man has been showing some resistance. She is working undercover. So he better not tell anyone including his brother and mother.

He acts under the disguise of a movie star since he has got a fancy car. That's what the people see but is that really who he is? He is really a spy doing a  covert operation for the United Nations at a secret destination and a classified location.

This woman sees him when he is home. She bugs his telephone. She got a message jammer and a little hidden camera inside of his home. However she does know he has got a lover. But he might need another. What this woman will do is go in undercover and eradicate the other lover. She’ll act as his double agent. She’ll work on correct intuition. The greatest spy will never compromise a mission. Now he’ll never be alone.

City of Lights is about this man who is lost in this city of lights because he has never seen such a beautiful girl on such a beautiful night.

This man lost his mind. He is all alone in the city of lights. Like a dream where there are beautiful people and beautiful lights. What a scene. Everything is good here, right? Not exactly true. His luck will change with the roll of one dice. He’s gonna lay a bed on her because he thinks she's in his range. Now he is blind and can't see in the pale moonlight. All alone in the city of lights.

He has never seen such a beautiful girl on such a beautiful night. But with the coming of the dawn he can clearly see the lights they walked in. The city scene is no place for him. He knows that he can't be alone in her company. He needs to be on his own. The city of lights is not a place for him.

Tintarella Di Luna (Moon Tint) explains how candid a love and the moon is. A little tanned reddish red moon covered in all patches. A little reddish red moon are the girls who take the sun. But there is one that takes the moon. They live above the roof like cats while drinking on milk-colored tinctures all night on the roof. And if there is a full moon, she becomes candid. That milk-colored tincture makes her skin white and makes her beautiful among the beautiful. And if there is a full moon, she becomes candid.

Celso Fonseca – Rive Gauche Rio album review

Celso Fonseca – Rive Gauche Rio has of the most beautiful downtempo bossa nova jazz from Brazil. Some of the songs are sung in English and some of the songs are sung in Portuguese. Downtempo bossa nova jazz meets Latin music on this album.

Delicate is about how gentle love can be.

They might kiss when the are alone and nobody is watching. They might take it home. They might make out when nobody's there at home. It's not that they're scared. It’s just that love is delicate.

So why do she fill his sorrow with the words that she’s borrowed from the only place she has known?
And why does she sing Hallelujah? If it means nothing to her why does she sing with him at all? They might live like never before. How can they ask for more when there's nothing to give? They might make love in some sacred place. The look on her face is delicate.

Don de Fluir (Gift of Flowers) is about a man wanting to see a lady dance and enjoy her company.

The two speakers outside the music on the balcony are falling down the sidewalk in loud gushes. Someone bring this man a drink. Now someone wants to talk this man at the balcony. The man just wants this lady to look as he watches her spin.

This lady wears her hair down with sandals on her feet and a purple dress. Everything fits her. The lady offers him a smoke. So he says yes to everything in order to see her dance. He just wanted to see her dance. He would like to see her turning and looking at him

This man that quiet guy with an air of intellectualism who looks at her from the side just to hide the fact he cannot dance. So he explains to her, "Thanks, but no, I don't dance. Maybe next time. I have clumsy knees. Why you have fast feet. I just want to see you dance."

The way she is dancing is like a gift of flowers. The way she dances seems so easy. He tells her, "Musicians don't dance. You've already heard. Thank you anyway. And thank you for insisting".

The River Behind is about the love a man behind when he left without his woman. The cloud lets the hill appear. Changing the light right at the end of the day. From the plain the sea changes color by reflecting the image of the bay. Where is he going? He is going without her and it leaves the fragile feeling like floating in outer space and getting lost in the directionless blue. He leaves the river behind when Arpoador lights up. I just have to confirm that beauty is sad without love.

Tape Five - Soiree Deluxe album review

Tape Five’s Soiree Deluxe incorporates the ragtime jazz of the 1920s and the electro swing of the 2020s. Ragtime jazz meets electronic music on this album.

Step Into My Time Machine takes us back to 1924 when swing and ragtime jazz was popular. Step Into My Time Machine incorporates the ragtime jazz of the 1920s and the electro swing of the 2020s. Tape Five manages to keep things sound vintage while being modern at the same time on this song.

We all have our time machines, don't we? Those that take us back are memories. And those that carry us forward are dreams!

Here is the experience of the time machine from a storytelling perspective.

This gentleman was born in 1924. The sound of swing was beating at the door. Shining shoes on the ballroom floor. He stepped into his time machine and had danced onto a different scene beyond his very wildest dreams.

Strolling down the main street. He was tapping in time to the doghouse beat to many dames that he would like to meet. All those folks are looking so stressed. He is the only person who is over dressed. If you can’t have fun then forget the rest.

If you’re never gonna make it in the real time baby then you’re never gonna make it at all. If you wanna make a line for the swing time, baby, then we could all be having a ball. Money can’t buy class. Class won’t get you ass. Don’t need to talk your trash if you can dance.

Here is the experience of the time machine is from the gentleman’s perspective.

I was born in 1924. The sound of swing was beating at the door. Shining shoes on the ballroom floor. I stepped into my time machine and had danced onto a different scene beyond my very wildest dreams. So step into my time machine.

Strolling down the main street. Tapping in time to the doghouse beat to many dames that I’d like to meet. All those folks are looking so stressed. I’m the only Joe who’s over dressed. If you can’t have fun then forget the rest.

Lyrics to the chorus manage to keep things modern while still having that vintage charm.

[Chorus]
Password and fingerprints
Legal highs and spiked drinks
Electric cars and push up Bras
Step into my time machine
Online Porn, Secret code
Honey Money shot and a hot download
The smartest phone and a flying drone
Time machine, time machine, step into my time machine
Time machine, time machine, step into my time machine
Oh ah oh ah

So do these lyrics.

Trigger men with top hats
Pitching woo with white spats
Clip Joints and cool cats

Hush Hush Magazine is about the glamour of the paparazzi.

Snap your feet to the beat because it's sweet. Paparazzi's are on the street. Newspaper boy, won’t ya give it a shout? Sex and crimes is what it's all about. Extra extra. Read all about it. In the Hush Hush Magazine. Latest news for a curious team. Hush Hush Magazine has crazy news for a curious team. Everybody wants to get in. But things ain’t always what they seem.

These lyrics exemplify how fame and being famous are not all what it’s cracked up to be. “Everybody wanna get in/But things ain’t always what they seem”

Hush Hush Magazine heard about the baker and her sons. But they don't even need their Tommy guns. Hell lights burning like gasoline. Everybody wants a piece in the Hush Hush Magazine. Things ain’t always what they seem.

She’s Undressed to Kill is about a sexy male assassin with a passion for fashion who mets his femme fatale who is a Russian spy.

A sexy male assassin with a passion for fashion is out on a secret mission. These Cold War days have gone by. He met his femme fatale. She was a Russian spy. She looked divine and was dressed so fine down to her toes.

She was a weapon of mass destruction wearing all the hottest clothes. He took a chance on a wild romance. Now having a sexual relationship with a Russian spy was considered scandalous during this time. Not to mention torrid. But she wouldn't let him go. She's undressed to kill with a license to thrill!

She distracted him from making good decisions because her “honey” so great that he was willing to sacrifice himself. The sexy male assassin got his hands on a secret plan.

She's undressed to kill! He has written his will. He chased her to the Lido and to the Ritz. The Lido and Ritz were both fancy glamorous hotels where fashion shows were often held. Unsurprisingly he lost control and sold his soul. Each fashion show would go from Rome to Tokyo. If she was armed, then he wold be harmed. Cat and mouse in the fashion house. That agent was a pro.

He restates she was playing hard-to-get to drag him to all these different shows with these lyrics. “Cat and mouse in the fashion house/That agent was a pro” She was playing hard-to-get by dragging him to all these fashion different shows.

The Magic Slapstick is about a dancing magical fairy lady who’s gotta get her swing on.

This magical fairy lady has gotta swing her thing. What she does when she is dancing is shuffle those feet and spin on those heels!

Something happens when the sun goes down at night. This magical fairy lady uses her power, which is a magic stick to make things right. She ain't no pornstar with a fast car eating caviar. She ain't no kingpin, kaiser, or political advisor.

She’s gotta swing her thing with everything she can! Hit you with the magic slapstick. When you need a little voodoo, she’ll be your midnight guru until the sun comes up. Set the dance floor on fire. The flames are dancing higher. So dance the night away!

Now you see, she always had this magic stick here with her everywhere she goes. Like a family needs a singer. A sin needs a sinner. This magical fairy lady is the psychedelic swinger at the show. Ain't no prophet or a pope or some creature selling hope. She’s gotta swing her thing. Ain't no shaming on a swing.

Codeword Marlene is a tribute to Lili Marleen in electro swing format.

This man who was a sailor took his suitcase from Berlin, Germany and went back to the provinces. But the longing was only enough for a little prince. The sailor's last words were Reeperbahn, a street and entertainment district in the St. Pauli district of Hamburg, Germany. Buenos Aires, Argentina was the next destination the man was on board to after that. The war took him away from his lady Marlene.

The rainbow has no end but here and now is the moment. Eternity doesn't matter. Marlene was there for her lover. Marlene wants him to make himself comfortable and come to her. They were strangers in the night who had the last dance in the moonlight. There had to be glamor and pompous on top of that the enraptured look in the sky stars stand in the firmament. Man is a musician, but life is a conductor.

Marlene wishes she could invite her lover over for another glass of wine. But he was already ready to go off to fight in a war. Now is the moment she wishes she could have spent more time with him. The zeppelin goes around the world goes in circles. And that's how the big scream came about. The wind blows at night. The century was done. A new era had to come and history had to be made.

Klischée – Bend The Rules album review

Klischée – Bend The Rules is one of the lesser known jazz albums from the country of France. The album leans more on the electronic side than jazz honestly.

You Want More is about this woman who is playing hard to get with this man that really wants her.

When this man sees this woman walking down the street, she always on the run. There is no way she is slowing down her speed. No one can hold her down. The man knows what’s going on. It’s just somebody else somewhere in between. You can’t deny it. It’s so exciting.

She wants more of this feeling she adores but won’t admit it. She is playing hard to get with this man. It’s the thrill of getting more that turns the man on to her. She has got skills and knows how to play but is addicted. She can’t admit that she is afraid. This feeling is something she adores. The love needs to be tried.

And whеn he sees her walking down the street, she don’t know where to go. It’s like a beat that’s running on repeat. She puts her heart on hold. He knows it won't be long when he sees that she is blue and sick until the next big thing is on her list. It can’t be overlong. You can’t deny it’s so exciting.

Man on the Moon is a Veronica Fusaro and Klischée song about a man on the moon.

There's a man on the moon. At least that's what they said on the news. Do you know if it's true? But ain't nobody's killin' for the proof. Veronica Fusaro and Klischée don't wanna hide. She’s got words on her mind. See the other side. If there's a man on the moon, we should throw a party up there soon.

Veronica Fusaro says there's a man on the moon looking down on us crazy fools They shot headlines from the roof. Bringing black to dreams to the youth. What if you realize they were all telling lies just to light up the night?
