Jamie Berry - Swing It EP review

Jamie Berry - Swing It is one of the lesser know swingingest electro swing EPs filled with classic classical jazz for all to enjoy. Standout tracks are Jerky, Wing It, and Old Records.

Old Records pays tribute and homage to jazz of the early 20th century. Particularly jazz from the 1920 to the 1930s through the 1940s. The song uses upbeat swing jazz and big band jazz instrumentals over modern electronic production. So get those old phonograph records and enjoy them.

Get out those old records. Those old phonograph records. The ones we used to play so long ago. Kitten On The Keys and Lola on the old wind-up Victrola phonograph record player. But if they sound scratchy the tunes really were catchy. Those old phonograph records will melt your heart away. They were wonderful then and are still wonderful now.

Jamie kills it with his production styles and techniques on the song Jerky. Those infectious hand claps and foots stomps are the foley effects which make the song captivating and desirable to listen to. You can tell he put in a lot of footwork into the production on this song of his. Jamie kills them with positive vibes.

These lyrics bring such positive vibes to the public.

(Watch this!)
Bom-bo clap
Bom-bo clap

(I'm a hit, not the public)
Bom-bo clap
Bom-bo clap
(Kill them with positive vibes)

(Are you ready?)
Bom-bo clap
Bom-bo clap
Clap, clap, clap

Wing It uses some warped electro chords over big band orchestration and contemporary beats. The song uses production from one of those old phonograph records.

Atom Smith - Bright Like Hollywood EP review

Atom Smith - Bright Like Hollywood is a 4 track EP which focuses on electro swing and that jazzy big band sound on FRESHLY SQUEEZED’s highly respected BLUE COVER SERIES. The EP boasts a uniquely energetic West Coast sound with Atom Smith fusing swing with bass and beats. Comin’ Up Swinging and Stickup Kid are the highlights of this EP.

Comin’ Up Swinging uses a mixture of big band jazz and swing music. But just remember this one thing. If you pushin' me around or try and knock me down, I'm comin' up swinging.

When you're the talk of the town and everyone gathers around to hear what you have to say, you better say it loud. Then everyone disagrees refuse to see how you see. It always talking and talking about it until your ears bleed. Most people forget to be the change that they wish to see. They just don't know how to ask for what they really need.

But when my friend are in need or even my enemies. I'll see them through if I can. But I'll say what I please. And you can comе to my house and sit on my couch. But just remember this one thing. If you are pushin' me around or try and knock me down, I'm comin' up swinging.

Most people don't seem to see how dangerous it can be to want to act violently when they just disagree. Whatever you might believe, we’re basically 6 degrees from where we all want to be. We eat, drink, and sing.

Stickup Kid is a story about the 2 Six Shooters including Atom Smith and DJ Fresh. The story takes place in the Wild West and revolves around 2 Six Shooters and the DJ Fresh.

Everything got kinda blind sided when it all started. The law done had enough of the rich tryna rob the poor. Atom Smith done had enough of the rich tryna rob the poor also. So Atom walked in the spot with not a plan or a thought. It was word and he heard his share.

They didn't want to pay so he said, "This is a stickup, everybody get face down! Left me no choice, everybody on the ground! I don't want the whole stack nah I ain't taking your money I just want mine back, yeah!" So they put it in the sack.

It's when he turned to leave that the guard let his son crack. It was self defense. Now Atom Smith is on the road with a price on his head.

A thousand yard stare caught his glare so he is headin' right toward that. He pulls up smoothly at a new saloon takin' whiskey shots, Then Atom heard a whistling tune. But this gutless dude tried to make his move. Then the last man standing need a damn thing changing. 2 Six shooters and DJ Fresh wander the West.

Special guest Miss Emmma pulls off an original and specially recorded big band orchestration with contemporary beats scored by Hollywood heavyweight Elliot Deutsch on Not Sorry Charlie. Not Sorry Charlie is backed by big band orchestration which consists of a horn section heard during a cabaret, drums, and super thick bass lines behind some infectious finger snapping.

David Federmann – WATER'S EDGE album review

David Federmann – WATER'S EDGE is a beautiful dreary downtempo future jazz album with sounds of broken beat incorporated in the production. Coco Jonza sings the backup vocals as she does on David Federmann other projects.

Ring Road is about getting into a hypnotic trance late at night. David Federmann takes full control of this song by himself for the most part.

Let's go fast before it's too late. There’s one hour left. Is it a matter of fate? A swirl of smoke what you smell.  A swirl of smoke and the car radio are the sights you see as you drive off into the night.

You take the ring road. There’s no other way to go. You are jumping far into the night. All the city lights mystically reflecting off in the night. You drive down a one way street hypnotic trance. You're dying with sleep but could you just give it a chance.

Awa Sy explains the specifics of what likes to dream about at night on Dream It.

Awa likes to dream at night because she can be whoever she want to become. She can do what she wishes to do. Her nightmares are cool too.

Her boyfriend hates that situation because when she asks him to go to bed it's never for that sweet temptation but always for what's gonna be in her head. What she wishes to do. If only she had known about it.

Awa wishes she could have stayed that magnificent in the morning. She wants keep those green eyes. Let her be as brilliant as in that dream. Let her be that way even if it's unwise. So Away sets the alarm for one hour later. Then she snoozes it one more time as she can fly a little more. Beautiful counting rhyme. Every night in every corners of the globe.

Aka seeks happiness with these lyrics to the song: “Automatic, happiness seeker/Down through the ages, throughout the world”

She dreams it. The day she walks in town and the night she rule the world. But each time a loved one passed away,  she was waiting for the night to meet again. They danced and laughed through a shiny day. Please let her be that way.

133 is feeling the vibe and feeling inspired.

When you dream about heaven, it makes you wanna die. You gotta feel the vibe. But you will play it down. You were the talk of the town because of your inspiring jibes. You're inspiring jibes because you're a bit strange. That is what these lyrics mean. “Was the talk of the town/You're inspiring jibes, cause you're a bit strange”

You gonna live at night and you gotta make it right. You gotta live in the moment. You're a flood of light like a water spirit. That's right. You gotta make it right and reach the sky. That is what the lyrics “And you gotta make it right/you gonna reach the sky” mean. Ask for the 7th destination. But do it on the sly because if your mum sees you smiling, she will keep you by her side. A sense of hope abounds. She ain't gonna cry on the high seas of loneliness. The curtain drops as the one who reached the shores of a strange new land.

Water's Edge is about a woman who commits suicide by drowning herself when she knows fully well that she can’t swim. All because she is gripped by a loneliness without her man in her life. Karen Luke sings the backing vocals while David Federmann plays the baby grand piano and drum programming.

A woman went to the water's edge. All ready to jump in. This woman forgot she couldn't swim. She saw the water shimmer. She heard the wind howl when she saw her own reflection. Now she just can't see it.

Her man said it's the way of the world to somehow co-exist. That eventually life unfurls a path to happiness. So she whisper hid little secret and repeats it under her breath. She’ll save it for him in her heart in case they both forget.

She wishes he could wrap himself around her. She’d be released in his tenderness. Now clearly she is gripped by a loneliness. She went to the water's edge and saw her life eclipse. Then felt herself slip. She dreamed that she was floating. Just coasting until she grew fins. She wants to catch this tide back home and feel him again.

Butterscotch Stanley - Rejection Tour album review

Looking for some 90's indie punk rock? Well Rejection Tour by Butterscotch Stanley is the album you’ve been looking. The album is good for a road trip. You can enjoy this album when you are on a road trip. The album has songs with several songs which have a patriotic theme to them such as Geography, The River Delta, Fargo, and United States.

The song “United States” celebrates American culture with a sense of patriotism hence the patriotic theme. References to American cities and American products are made. This song is as American as it gets.

The White Sands, cowboy shoes, Catacombs, and Texas toast are examples of what makes American culture great. New England Pride is what also makes this country great.

Notice how the rhyme scheme of these lyrics are relevant with the patriotic theme of this song. “Catacombs and Texas toast/Carbondale and Peter Berg/Cattle Ranch, Salem's Ghosts/Powell's Books, Quaker Oates”

Butterscotch Stanley believes that the country of the United States has been doomed from the start with these lyrics: “Perhaps we've been fated from the 1770s” It's just too damn big and beautiful to be one thing. It may be your land. It may be mine too. But Butterscotch Stanley say we should break it up. That’s what Butterscotch Stanley would do. Perhaps in their geographical dreams.

Geography teaches us think about geography. The message of the song Geography is to think about your ancestry, your heritage, and to think of philosophy.

Wisconsin killed Otis. The lyrics “Wisconsin killed Otis” are a reference to in a plane crash near Madison, Wisconsin which Otis Redding died in on the date of December 10, 1967. That was a tragedy which many mourned over.

These lyrics cover the famous musicians and artists who died in plane crashes in the United States.

Wisconsin killed Otis
Tennessee, Patsy
Bakersfield, Owens
San Pedro, Bukowski
New York killed Lumet

These lyrics cover the famous musicians, film directors, and artists who died in plane crashes across the world.

Wisconsin killed Otis
Tennessee, Patsy
Bakersfield, Owens
San Pedro, Bukowski
Faro killed Bergman
New York killed Lumet
The U.K. killed Kubrick
Romeo killed Juliet

It's not where you want to live. More where you want to die. Think of geography. Think of philosophy. Think of your ancestry. Think of your reasons why. Where do you see yourself giving up all your pride? A pretty girl in the summertime. The first movie to make you cry. The first movie that made you cry. Where do you see yourself with no more tears to cry? Your favorite bar before closing time. A piece of your grandmother's chicken pot pie.

A song called The River Delta has gritty raw edge inspired indie punk rock sound especially with the guitars. The distortion and wailing from the guitars are what make the song sound great.

Avril Lavigne - Avril Live Acoustic EP EP review

The Avril Lavigne - Avril Live Acoustic EP an acoustic extended play that was only released in Target stores located in the country of the United States on July 1, 2004. For some strange reason the EP was not sold in any other countries. Quite interesting. Anyway… The EP features songs from her albums “Let Go” and “Under My Skin”. All the songs were recorded live during Avril’s North American Mall Tour.

Avril Lavigne’s My Happy Ending single was the second most heartbreaking song and single in rock history for 2004. My Happy Ending is a song is about a turbulent relationship which went misconstrued. The relationship doesn’t work out for both people. She shows disappointment towards the relationship as both people have to deal with saying goodbye to all of the memories they had shared together in the relationship. Both people have to goodbye to the relationship they once had.

He was everything that Avril wanted. They were meant to be and supposed to be together but somehow they lost it all. And all of their memories so close to Avril now just fade away. So much for her happy ending. Avril realizes she is living a lie and now reality has overcome her. Now Avril wishes to escape from a broken relationship. The relationship isn't far from behind her.

She tells him, “It's nice to know that you were there. Thanks for acting like you cared and making me feel like I was the only one. It's nice to know we had it all. Thanks for watching as I fall and letting me know we were done.”

Don’t Tell Me about being strong. There’s lot of guys out there who just want to take girls out to dinner just to have sex with them and all that shit. Guys can pressure them into doing anything. There’s a lot of pressure for girls these days. Avril is not like that girl who gives it all away.

Don’t Tell Me is also is about a relationship that doesn’t work out. A relationship is easily breakable. The song also deals with both people having to say goodbye to all of their precious memories held together that both people in the relationship once had. Even the biggest lovers can turn into strangers in a matter of days. That’s how love works sometimes.

Avril shows that she is fearless and will step up to any man in order to call them out for their behavior with her lyrics in Verse 2.

[Verse 2]
Don't think that your charm
And the fact that your arm is now around my neck
Will get you in my pants
I'll have to kick your ass to make you never forget
I'm gonna ask you to stop
I thought I liked you a lot, but I'm really upset (Really upset)
So get outta my head, get off of my bed
Yeah, that's what I said

The song He Wasn’t is where Avril dumps a cheesy guy she dated after finding out he wasn’t exactly what she wanted personally. She did not expect this. So she bashes him throughout the entirety of this song. He Wasn’t showcases the punk rocker side of Avril Lavigne.

As cited in the chorus, Apparently a guy not getting the door for her really gets on her last nerves.

[Chorus]
He wasn't what I wanted, what I thought, no
He wouldn't even open up the door
He never made me feel like I was special
He isn't really what I'm looking for
(Hey, hey, hey)
(Hey, hey, hey)

Take Me Away was derived from 2001 B-Sides album. Except this version of Take Me Away is a much more dark vivid version than the version on B-Sides as it is a metal track. That version was a much happier version than the version released on Under My Skin. Take Me Away was originally meant to be on Let Go but didn't make the final track listing for whatever reason.

The song has a basic sequence of F#m-C#m-D–E as its chord progression. Her vocal range spans from B3 to D#5. Although her vocals range stays mostly in the B3 at moderate tempo of 99 BPM.

Take Me Away deals with Avril wanting someone to take her away from confusion going on inside her head. Avril cannot handle all the confusion going back and forth in her head. She cannot find a way to describe it. It's there inside. All she does is hide. She just wishes that it would just go all away. What would you do if you knew? What would you do?

Avril cannot handle the confusion at all as evidenced in the chorus.

[Chorus]
All the pain I thought I knew
All the thoughts lead back to you
Back to what was never said
Back and forth inside my head
I can't handle this confusion
I'm unable; come and take me away

Avril feels all alone by herself and has to get around this. Her words are cold. No one understands her. She’s going and getting nowhere. What would you do?

Nobody’s Home talks about a girl who has a lots of problems unresolved in her mind and how she is not getting anywhere. She obviously is on the wrong path. She wants to go home, but nobody's home. She’s broken inside with no place to go.

Nobody’s Home has a catchy hook in a conversational tone. The song spoke to all the social outcasts in the world especially young girls and women trying to find their place in the world. The song showed that Avril was a force to be reckoned with as she understood the harsh realities of her fanbase. She was wise beyond her years with this dark song of hers.

These lyrics to Nobody’s Home hit hard and hit home. Especially lyrics to the bridge and chorus.

[Verse 1]
Well, I couldn't tell you
Why she felt that way
She felt it every day
And I couldn't help her
I just watched her make
The same mistakes again

[Verse 2]
Open your eyes (Open your eyes)
And look outside
Find the reasons why
You've been rejected (You've been rejected)
And now you can't find
What you've left behind

[Pre-Chorus]
Be strong, be strong now (Be)
Too many, too many problems (Strong)
Don't know where she belongs (No)
Where she belongs

[Chorus]
She wants to go home, but nobody's home
That's where she lies, broken inside
With no place to go, no place to go
To dry her eyes, broken inside

[Bridge]
Her feeling she hides, her dreams she can't find
She's losin' her mind, she's fallen behind
She can't find her place, she's losin' her faith
She's fallen from grace, she's all over the place
Yeah

Sk8er Boi is a pop punk love song that was a classic. The whole song has a punk rock vibe with such angst. The whole song was pretty much a pop song at best. Pop meets rock thus creating a combination and fusion of pop rock.

Sk8er Boi is what also launched Avril into stardom among the song Complicated in 2002. In fact, Sk8er Boi almost outmatched Complicated in terms of sales figures. However both singles reached platinum status going more than 2x platinum worldwide.

Swing Republic - Midnight Calling album review

Swing Republic - Midnight Calling is one of the more swingingest albums of 2012. That album has that vintage swing jazz sound backed with modern electronic production thus creating an electro swing fusion. This Swing Republic album again includes the jazzy vocals of Karina Kappel. Many people have called Midnight Calling the best electro swing album.

High Hat styles of jazz music from the big band era of the 1920s and 1930s in a style that fans will recognise from the band's highly acclaimed debut of remixes and covers. The song starts off like Mambo Number 5.

The song “Mama” is about not listening to your mother because you are/were hard headed, stubborn, and young. Mama uses contemporary jazz and electronic. Mama used to tell me but I wouldn't believe her. Mama always told me go to church on Sunday. But I'd rather do my hair. She didn't see me jump out the window. She thought I was in bed. Mama didn't see me hold hands with Jimmy. Mama didn't see me make out with Timmy. Mama didn't see me skinny-dipping with Vinnie in the pale moonlight.

The 187 Family - One Eighty Seven album review

The 187 Family - One Eighty Seven album is one of the tightest underground Memphis rap junts of 1999. Lo-fi synths, eerie soundscapes, whines, triplet flows, and low quality drums are what make the album brehsive and desirable. Any fan of Memphis rap will enjoy this junt. The 187 Family album is much different and unique from any other Memphis groups or rappers.

Glock uses an incredible beat which sets the mood for the album. The song has a nice dreary vibe and is suitably slow to fit the tempo over an Aesthetic sample. DJ Zirk produced the brehsive eerie dreary instrumental. Playa Co (Primo) sounded like Playa Fly because that’s all he was listening to at the time this song and the 187 Family - One Eighty Seven album was being recorded and produced.

The bass and whines on Player Haters will sure enough send chills down your spine. The samples used were 2Pac - No More Pain & Snoop Dogg - Gz and Hustlaz. Now this is another example of eerie Memphis rap that was popular in the 1990s. The snares and bass lines are tight.

Everyday Routine is about getting money selling cocaine to dope. The everyday routine for 187 Family is after 2:15 PM when they go to sell cocaine to the drug fiends. Stacking them greens is another part of their everyday routine too. The instrumental is fucking cold!

Lyrics to the chorus go as follows.

After 2:15
Our everyday routine is selling rocks to the fiends
We stacking them greens!
After 2:15
Our everyday routine is selling R-O-C-K to the D-O-P-E fiends
We stack our own green!

Real Niggas Thick is about how robberies are committed. Real Niggas Thick uses thick ethereal beats produced by DJ Zirk of II Thick Family. The snares and bass lines are tight.

Sonny Fodera - Disco Biscuits EP review

Sonny Fodera delivers the house music goods with his 2010 disco EP called Sonny Fodera - Disco Biscuits. Disco meets house music on the Disco Biscuits EP. This is massive disco shit, baby. The song and title track Disco Biscuits uses some serious disco madness. Notice how stompy those beats are. Those are stompy beats. Let It Roll uses some 90s hip house flava and 70s funk.

Avril Lavigne - Sk8er Boi - EP EP review

The Avril Lavigne - Sk8er Boi - EP is one of the more popular EP from Canadian artist Avril Lavigne. The Sk8er Boi - EP was a promotional deluxe single used to promote the Let Go album in 2002.

Get Over It was featured as the second track on the Sk8er Boi CD single. The song was available for free download in MP3 format for a limited amount of time. Get Over It is one of Avril Lavigne's B-sides from her debut album Let Go. It was also the bonus track for the tour edition of Let Go and was on the B-side of the CD single of Sk8er Boi.

Nobody’s Fool is about being yourself and sticking up for yourself. Be cool. Nobody’s Fool is mainly about being yourself and no one else. During the process of writing of the Let Go album, Avril had to deal with a lot of pressure from her management Nettwerk and other songwriters who were trying to turn her into someone else in order to be more marketable. Avril wanted originality and to be original instead. The record labels (Arista Records and Nettwerk) wanted to turn her into someone that she’s not. Avril had to fight with the record labels to be able to write her own songs and create her own image.

The song Nobody’s Fool should have been a single and should have gotten a music video similar to Sk8er Boi, Complicated, and Losing Grip. Nobody’s Fool is one of the most overlooked songs from the Let Go album.

Avril is not afraid to let her colors show in her songwriting and lyrics. Here is an example of when her colors flow listed below.

And I'll go
Because I flow
Better when my colors show
And that's the way it has to be
Honestly

Avril has seen it enough and is not down with people among her into being someone else. She has had enough of that. Don’t try that or attempt it with her.

Once people tell her they don’t like Avril for who she is, she’ll leave them and find a new group of friends who actually befriend her for who she is. She doesn’t like acting fake. Unlike the people who she thought were her friends do.
