C-Roc - Rock It Up album review

The album C-Roc - Rock It Up is one blazing hot crunk album from the streets of Memphis, Tennessee. The album has some blazing hot electronic beats and crunk snaps. You can feel a sense of crunk and suspense. This one of his best albums next to Dramatized Minded and Mental Illusions.

The album C-Roc - Rock It Up was originally slated to be released in August 2001. However this did not happen because the masters to that album were stolen in a home invasion that happened in 2001. C-Roc - Rock It Up is one of the Street Smart Records releases that were stolen when several masters to the Street Smart Records albums/releases got stolen in a home invasion. So this led the album release date to be cancelled and the album to be shelved for at least 10 years. This was a setback for the label, C-Roc, and Tommy Wright III. Street Smart Records falling apart didn't help the situation either.

Some of you might remember that the album cover had C-Roc in a bright red colored background holding a wine bottle in his left hand. The cover was designed by Street Level Graphics in 2000. This album cover was advertised in several Street Smart Records albums and releases throughout the early 00s. The album cover was redesigned by IAP Graphics in 2012.

C-Roc - Rock It Up was released 11 years later in 2012 as C-Rock - Rock It Up. That album was one of the very select few Street Smart Records albums/releases to be reissued later with new tracks. So fans actually got to purchase that album. C-Roc - Rock It Up is one of the Memphis rap albums that got overlooked but is well-appreciated by Memphis rap fans across the world. That makes sense as Rock It Up was an underground album with a limited amount of pressings which makes the album difficult to find. Unlike Mental Illusions there are no old tracks at all.

C-Rock rocked it up on his blazing hot crunk song called Rock It Up. Honestly it’s good to hear and see C-Rock back on some new shit with fresh material.

C-Rock and Tommy Wright III had some fire verses on the song All Hang Out. Tommy Wright III came back better than ever on this song especially. His fans knew his verse was fire. Honestly it’s good to hear and see Tommy Wright III back on some new shit with fresh material.

Not too many people know this but the song with C-Rock and K-Rock called Some Niggaz was a diss song. There was a diss that was played in reverse that was aimed at Juicy J and DJ Paul. The song was used on the album Manson Family - Blood On Da Wall.

Ruff Draft - 601 Ridaz album review

Ruff Draft - 601 Ridaz showed that ruggedness, delivery, and essence Mississippi rap has. DJ Paul produced their entire album with those dark beats of his. This album served as an example of gangsta rap from the Dirty South. The album showcased Street Smart Records connections and ties to the state of Mississippi. That makes sense given that Mississippi was their second biggest market (now fourth biggest market). Tupelo, Mississippi was doing it major during the mid-1990s. Ruff Draft and Gangsta B were the first ones to put Tupelo, Mississippi on the map.

Ruff Draft - 601 Ridaz is one of the lesser known obscure albums from Street Smart Records that hardly anyone mentions or talks about. Sadly not too many people know about this obscure album.

Constantly Thinking (Gangsta Walk) (DJ Paul Remix) is quite spooky and creepy due to the production by DJ Paul. The audio quality is unbelievable for a song recorded in 1996. You can’t beat that old school rap sound or that Memphis sound. One thing that stands out is those hard snares.

One thing that stands out about Pretend To Be Pimps is those hard snares. The quality of the song is beautiful due to the production by DJ Paul.

Alesha Dixon - The Alesha Show album review

Alesha Dixon - The Alesha Show is a series of jazz-influenced concert songs with a huge incorporation of cabaret music divulged. The album is similar to a Lou Bega album but is more extravagant with more vibrance, extravagance, and pizzazz. Alesha attempts to become extravagant and noticeable even if she is trying too hard at times. Nevertheless her singing is on point. Upbeat is one word to describe this album although that may be a bit of an understatement. Of course the album is a little risqué with songs such as Italians Do It Better and Ooh Baby I Like It Like That. The sounds of pop and swing meet each other on this album.

The Boy Does Nothing is a song explained how Alesha’s man is a bad dancer with two left feet whose rhythm's go go go. His bad dancing drives her up the wall with much annoyance.

Alesha has got a man with two left feet who can’t dance. When he dances, he dances not to the beat. Alesha really thinks that she let him know that his rhythm's go go go. He never cleans up his dancing rhythm and syncopation. He never brushed up.

I saw you at the corner, Her vibe kicked in when she saw him at the corner in a real nice suit. She asks him for a dance. He said yes. She’s gonna feel the beat within her soul. Alesha needs a man to take control. If the man can dance, he gets a second chance. Everybody hit the rhythm. It's on tonight. Let the melody blow you away.

Chasing Ghosts is a deep emotional and spiritual swing jazz song where Alesha believes ghosts are haunting her soul inside. She sings about she has been chasing a ghost that doesn't exist. The story to the song is like a dark fantasy.

Hide Alesha Dixon from the glitter, glitz, glory, and fame. The part of her that can dissolve because she doesn’t wanna feel bitter and taste it deep within her soul. Alesha Dixon is just a girl who dreamt of singing. Who wants the adulation most? What is she trying to conform to? Why is she making friends with ghosts? There are so many questions that need to be answered.

It's haunting her soul. She is scared and alone. Alesha has been running away because there is no way to resolve this problem she is facing. How did she get here? How can she get home? The story is written before she could breathe.

Sometimes she drifts away and melts into another place. It's a fraction of her mind. She meditates. She finds the light. It is part of giving time to get the best she can in life. No more turning back now because Alesha is where she should be. No longer is she lost in a dark fantasy.

Shake explains how Alesha likes to take control and be in charge in a relationship. She likes to be in charge of her man in their relationship. The only time her man can tell her what to do is when they are dancing together. Control and dominance are the themes of this song.

Alesha Dixon is a little lady with electric fever. All the guys run and hide because they're afraid of this pioneer. She is an irrepressible little lady who walks on dangerous ground.

Alesha tells her man to stop bossing her around. She tells him the only time he can tell her what to do is when they are dancing together. She tells him, “The only time you can tell me what do is when we're dancing. Take this chance right now to be my leader.” Then Alesha convinces him to take the lead while dancing and to take this chance right now by saying, “Take this chance right now to be my leader. Lay it on me now. Make me smile from ear to ear. Shake me up and break me down. I've got my dancing shoes on so make me move 'til I cry out like a hound.”

[Pre-Chorus]
The only time you can tell me what do is
When we're dancing

[Chorus]
Take this chance right now to be my leader
Lay it on me, wow, make me smile from ear to ear
Shake me up and break me down
I've got my dancing shoes on so make me move
'Til I cry out like a hound

Alesha wonders if she can relive her life and release all the pain inside because she wants to love again. In other words, she wants to be in love again. That is the synopsis of Can I Begin.

Alesha has been holding on pretending like nothing's wrong. There's many things she wants to seem. However life's getting colder since she broke up with her previous lover. Can Alesha begin to relive her life and release all the pain inside of herself? She wants to be love again. Everyday is a different vibe. Up and down like a fairground ride. Overdone now. How can she begin to love again?

I’m Thru explained how Alesha was through with love. The song really captured her true feelings and emotions about love. She explains why she is through with love.

In terms of lies and filth, Alesha doesn't amount to much. Her soul is sugar sweet with an angelic touch. Alesha would like to give every single boy who thinks she is worth a try one punch in the eye. She has had enough of giving. Now she is on the take. Alesha is changing her religion for her poor heart's sake because she had it up to here with love. She’ll take a running jump if any boy comes near. Alesha is through with love. It didn't do much for her. As if you really care.

She had the chance to think about the whole shebang and come to the conclusion that love is not her thing. A word to the wise, keep out of sight. Her bark ain't worth the bite. It seems that cupid's arrow always hits the board. Alesha plans to boldly go where no girl's gone before. She is packing up and heading out the door.

All Out of Tune is about her relationship with a man that has gone all wrong. To leave a good man is hard. That’s what some ladies say. She explains why she and her man cannot be together.

Alesha really wants to love her man but she don't know how. Can't he hear how it's playing? Like guitars with broken strings. There's never any harmony. They both know the sounds of a long goodbye. She doesn't have to say it. Just listen to the words of this song.

The truth is that their relationship never should've gone this far. And their relationship never would've been this hard. But Alesha was never in love. Now it's all out of tune between Alesha and her man. She’ll be leaving him soon because it's all out of tune. This is the end.

Can't you hear the lyrics, the words, and melodies? They're sharp and cut too deep. The sound is piercing. His heart keeps breaking and she can't take it. The song's still playing but they’re both all out of tune.

She doesn't wanna break his heart anymore. But she can never give him what he is asking for. He has never done Alesha wrong. To leave a good man is hard. It's harder if they stay here and just deny. They can't be together and they both know why.

Alesha gets in touch with her musical roots with these lyrics.

[Bridge]
See, I don't really wanna sing this part
All I wanna do is make it stop
But the song plays on, the song plays on and on and on and on...

[Chorus]
Now it's all out of tune, between me and you
Can't you hear the music?
I'll be leaving soon, cause it's all out of tune
Can't you hear the lyrics, the words and melodies?
They're sharp and cut too deep, the sound is piercing
And the song keeps playing, your heart keeps breaking
And I can't take it, the song's still playing but we're all out of tune

Ninjula - Bass ’n Honey EP review

Ninjula - Bass ’n Honey is an extreme swing n glitch EP where the sounds of electro swing and glitch hop both meet each other. The sounds are swinging. You’ll hear some of the phattest glitch sounds on the EP as this EP has some of the hardest and phattest bangin’ bass and beats ever. Ninjula is known for his phat glitchy swing sound.

Rat Trap has some of the hardest and phattest bangin’ bass and beats ever for a swing n’ glitch song. Those kicks and claps accompany the song perfectly. The kicks follow those bass lines, glitches, synths, and chords. Those beats really help the song stand out and prosper.

Not to mention the most catchiest piano lines and trombone ensemble. The vibe is so pure. It is so good. That is not surprising since Ninjula is known for his phat glitchy swing sound.

St. James Infirmary is a cover of Louis Armstrong - St. James Infirmary Blues. The sample in this song comes from Louis Armstrong - St. James Infirmary Blues. Many of the lyrics are variations of/on the original lines as well.

I went down to St. James Infirmary
Saw my baby there
She was stretched out on a long, white table
So cold, so sweet, so fair

Let her go, let her go, God bless her
Wherever she may be
She can look this wide world over
But she’ll never find a sweet man like me

When I die bury me in shoes,
I want a Boxback coat and a Stetson hat
Put a twenty dollar gold piece on my watch chain
So the boys will know that I died standin' pat

It was down in Old Joe's barroom on the corner by the square. The usual crowd was assembled and big Joe McKinney was there. His eyes were bloodshot red. He turned to the crowd around him. These are the very words he said: "I went down to the St. James Infirmary. I saw my baby there. She's laid out on a cold white table. So so cold, so white, so fair."

Bryce Kulak - Tin Can Telephone album review

Bryce Kulak - Tin Can Telephone was the soundtrack to dark cabaret music. The album uses a mixture of cabaret music and jazz music. That makes sense given that the album captures the essence of cabaret. His album filled with love songs to songs that are just plainly absurd. Many of his songs are driven and backed by a grand piano which gives his songs a swing of cabaret and jazz.

Sad Victoria was a song which explained why a 8 year old girl Victoria is the happiest when she is sad. She finds happiness in sadness. This is why she is known as Sad Victoria. She’s Sad Victoria.

Sad Victoria’s almost 9.  She worries her father, but she says that she’s fine for she’s the happiest when she’s sad. She’s Sad Victoria. That is why she is known as Sad Victoria. Sad Victoria’s right at home when she pulls her hair with a fine-tooth comb. Not much matters without a care for Sad Victoria.

The Moon howled in its grief and every tree dropped every leaf for Sad Victoria for they loved her for the sad girl that she was. They loved her crooked teeth. She makes a face which she makes instead of making friends in a real place.

Sad Victoria’s in her room. She looks outside at the flowers in bloom and makes a note in her dreary brain. She’ll have to arrange for a drizzling rain. The Sun burned without relief and every tree dropped every leaf for Sad Victoria for they loved her for the sad girl that she was. They loved her crooked teeth and all because she’s Sad Victoria

Sad Victoria takes a walk. She stops a while at the tower clock and gazes up at its dingy dial. Sad Victoria is that clock. At the top a face. At the bottom a lock. All the ticks without the talk. The stars shone in disbelief and every tree dropped every leaf for Sad Victoria.

Aquamarine divulged into why a man named Mr. Maligne has an obsession with the color aquamarine and had hated every color that was not aquamarine. This man is austere and concise in the color that is his favorite.

Bryan knew of a man named Mr. Maligne who hated most shades of blue and of green. Mr. Maligne was not fond of red, yellow, purple, or orange. His favorite colour was Aquamarine! His furniture such as the sofa, the table and chair are aquamarine colored. Even his drapes are aquamarine. His cane and his hat too. And even his long underwear. The whole of his house as far as could be seen was painted a vibrating Aquamarine!

What was his obsession with Aquamarine? A rainbow of colour on constant parade. But he chose the one over each other shade. No plum, and no peach, and no bland tangerine. Everything had to be Aquamarine! His friends knew his wardrobe was more than a mess. They even tried helping him dress and undress. They bought him a vest in a brown velveteen. However he exchanged that vest for a vest that was Aquamarine! Mr. Maligne was incredibly skinny. Every last inch of his person was thin. He was bound to remain so lanky and lean as he only ate food that was Aquamarine!

Mr. Maligne could not kick his habit of obsessing over the color of aquamarine. In fact, he was happy the way that he was. The happiest ever. That was because he had no attachment to drab aubergine. He said, “Hang all the colours but Aquamarine!”

Mr. Maligne was dressing in his chamber at a quarter after 1 PM. He was dressing for a party. (To be honest, he was dressing up for fun.) He had donned his jacket, vest, and pants. Now he was nearly done. When he noticed that his hat had been left sitting in the sun. O the horror! O the moaning! O the tragedy, the scene! When that poor man found his favorite hat was no longer Aquamarine, a bluish-green tear made its way down his cheek He turned to the glass and took one squeamish peek.

And the grimace his face had contained was dissolved. Mr. Maligne found his problem was perfectly solved. After all of his previous fussing and noise, he discovered his new favorite colour was Turquoise. How ever could he have liked Aquamarine? That colour was nasty. A garish blue-green. While Turquoise was truly a soft greenish-blue. A flattering colour that was considerably exciting and new. This was the colour for Mr. Maligne!

Old Buildings deals with the concept of urban renewal and the negative consequences of a city loosing local charm that made the local landscape scenery unique in the first place. An example of urban renewal is when they tear old buildings down and put condo units up for sale. The song deals with the negative consequences of gentrification too.

When they tear old buildings down. It’s funny, ‘cause you know they’re sold and going. But then they seem to stick around and you wonder if they’ll ever really do it. Condo units up for sale. Fences up are erected around the lot and building. Everyone has long moved out and now the building’s simply waiting for it.

When they tear old buildings down and put condo units up for sale, that is an example of urban renewal and revitalization. Everyone has long moved out due to the demolition of old buildings as part urban renewal policies. But still the building’s there waiting for new tenants. Hoping for new tenants.

Many months go by. You still hope they’ve changed their minds. Maybe the old building’s really staying. Hoping it’s still there. Maybe they won’t kill the vines growing up its sides, but signs are saying, “Condo units up for sale”.

Then one day the building’s gone. You had meant to take a lot of pictures of its yellow doors and vines climbing up the bricks and round the windows

These condo units have better views, better light, and better heating. Stucco will be pink and pale. Parking will be underground but not free. However these condo units are reserved for people over 30 that make $80,000 a year or more. Occupation’s set for this September. These are the negative consequences of gentrification.

Maybe as you think and watch the bulldozers clear the rubble. You manage to sneak a brick and wonder about these future tenants while cradling the old building’s remnants.

These lyrics to the song deal with the negative consequences of gentrification.

Condo units up for sale
Only for professionals over thirty
Making eighty grand a year
Occupation’s set for this September

Fences up around the lot and building
Everyone has long moved out
And now the building’s simply waiting for it

Ganksta Gank - Me And My Killaz album review

Ganksta Gank - Me And My Killaz is one of the most overlooked Detroit rap albums in existence that is hardly ever mentioned whenever Detroit rap is brought up in a conversation. His album is laced with ultra thick heavy bass and those thick beats over explicit hardcore street rap lyrics which leave a long lasting memorable impression in people’s minds. In other words, those ultra thick heavy bass and those thick beats are what make the album stand out along with the lyrics. His album also has that tight eerie Detroit sound as every single song has those gritty G-Funk sounds. This is that gritty dirty Detroit shit from Plymouth Road.

You will find such a gloomy and realistic atmosphere on each corner in the song Old Beef. The song is about getting and seeking out revenge on rivals in an act of vigilante justice. This is just an example of reality rap. Certainly the sound is definitely appealing.

Those jungle beats on Murder Ain’t No Game with former 90s Detroit rap Gank Move absolutely insane and too dope with high levels of brehsiveness. Those gorilla chants in the background which are played throughout the song are what help make this song dope. Those ultra thick heavy bass and those thick beats are what make the song stand out. You can hear two 15 inch subwoofers bumping hard to this shit in the background also. This is some kick ass OG gangsta shit (ganksta shit).

Knuckles Of Manson Family - Manson Maniac album review

Knuckles Of Manson Family - Manson Maniac is one of the Memphis rap albums from 1999 that got overlooked and flew under the music radar. Knuckles Of Manson Family - Manson Maniac is one of the lesser known obscure underground tapes (albums) from Street Smart Records. Knuckles uses a bit of more a bit of reality rap style than the typical Memphis rap artist because he uses a bit of more a bit of reality rap style than crunk, snap, or gangsta rap.

Maceo was killing it with his prolific production and beats. Maceo is Memphis top producers for certain. His production is one of a kind. So don’t underestimate this tape by the rapping and production.

There is a backstory behind this album. Now for whatever reason, this album was never released until 2009 when Maceo produced a few CD-r’s that he sold to fans in 2009 and 2010. Tommy Wright later made cassette bootlegs of Knuckles Of Manson Family - Manson Maniac.

Life Is Short is one of the grim reality rap songs which explains how life is short and quick. The song is a death themed reality rap song. For example, here Knuckles raps about how fast people (niggas) die with these lyrics of his, “Real niggas who die young/So I’ma give you a minute/Nah fuck that shit I’ma give you a quick second” You can see and hear how he raps with such talent. The breakdown is insane and definitively the shit.

Lil Sixx - Devil's Mind album review

Lil Sixx - Devil's Mind is one of those albums people listen to for guilty pleasure due to its devilish demonic satanic content and lo-fi eerie production. Clearly Lil Sixx was deeply inspired by Koopsta Knicca, Lord Infamous, Lil Corb, Darkside Click, and MC Mack because he raps about the occult due to the fact many of his junts have occult themes. For example, he raps about dealing with the devil on the junt Devil's Mind. He also raps about satanic themes and Satan on Hit Em' 4 Tha Stash. Junts such as Bloody Glock, All About My Hogg, Stik' Up Time (Intro), Broke Hoez, Hit Em' 4 Tha Stash, and Stik Up Man are gangsta rap oriented.

Memphis, Tennessee has the best gangsta rap and horrorcore rap period. Memphis rap fans call this album one of the best albums from Memphis, Tennessee. Lil Sixx is so underrated. He does not get enough credit that he truly deserves for his music.

Lil Sixx - Devil's Mind was one of those underground tapes from the 1990s released by Real Nigga Records on cassette locally in Memphis, Tennessee only. His album was respected in the streets of Memphis. M.D.B. produced Lil Sixx’s entire album. M.D.B. is such an underrated producer who does not get enough credit for his work.

As for the album cover, there was never any album cover for the Lil Sixx - Devil's Mind album. There was never any album cover for the Lil Sixx - Devil's Mind album and there never will be any album cover for that album as Lil Sixx has decided not to repress the album. His “album cover” a title on a blank cassette. This album was distributed on consignment by Select-O-Hits and was sold out of the back of Lil Sixx’s box chevy (chevy thang) in 1995 when he was 16 years old.

Lil Sixx about dealing with the devil on the junt Devil's Mind. This is one of his junts with occult themes. This is an example of the best horrorcore rap from Memphis, Tennessee. Devilish vibes and satanic vibes are this junt has.

Lil Sixx uses that infamous triplet flow on Stik Up Man, mane. This shit sounds so way ahead of its time due to the use of that infamous triplet flow and those crazy beats. His triplet flow will leave you saying, “Damn this shit buck!” You can feel the phonk on this junt. This is an example of the best gangsta rap from Memphis, Tennessee.

Kingpin Skinny Pimp - The New Beginning album review

Kingpin Skinny Pimp - The New Beginning is one of the many underrated and overlooked Memphis rap albums that are out there. Not too many people even know about this album. His album has rough edge of gangsta rap energy with songs such as Another Riot. His album has got a couple of bangin’ junts. Multi-platinum producer L.A.J. produced a majority of his 1998 album.

Kingpin Skinny Pimp is showing no mercy as he is breaking laws like Three 6. Gimisum Army got his back with the infrared on them gats. Don't stumble or fall. We cracking jaws when we rumble throwing your head thru the wall. Guests walking backwards in the crowd screaming "Yall ain't no killas!" Multi-platinum producer L.A.J. got 'em crunk. Thugging and swinging at your mug like on Jerry Springer. All races yall invited stomp stomp on the floor.

Big Ballin showcased how Kingpin Skinny Pimp was living an expensive flashy lavish lifestyle. Kingpin Skinny Pimp uses clever, witty, and whimsical street smart lyrics on this junt. He’s got game from years of experience. Kingpin Skinny Pimp is in the house.

Kingpin Skinny Pimp want more chips than Lays. Now peep him close if you don't know. 20,000 on Black Jacket on MGM Casino. Limos and fine hoes wait for him to exit. Cool as full of Cristal cuz that's the way they kick it. Once again it's now pass that dome to the Kingpin. More mail for room sales. His gals be making ends. He pimps his favorite bitches. Now picture Kingpin Skinny Pimp front row at the Tyson fight. Moscino down and everything is feeling tight. Them cock gaze got him scoping all the high whores while he is high rolling and negotiating with big boys. Iced down with diamonds and Bogets. His nigga Forty got all the side bets. Yes this shit is phat. Look at Vince in the Freaknic. Rich players and tricks. It’s private business. Movie stars and entertainers acting out. Living large. Kingpin Skinny Pimp is in the house. He’s got game from years of experience. And all your fantasies legal or illegal. It doesn't matter. Get richer mane. Fuck them laws. And best in the best Skinny Pimp big ball.

Kingpin Skinny Pimp uses clever, witty, and whimsical street smart lyrics such as these on this junt.

I want more chips than Lays
Now peep me close if you don't know
20,000 on Black Jacket on MGM Casino
Limos and fine hoes wait for me to exit

Fat paper I'm paying the cheese so watch you save her
It's gets greater been legit and intelligent
Player I got women from every state of the continent
I swing by staying high and fry til I die
Millionaires we idols I done witness homicide

These lyrics explain how people change once you become successful and start having things. “Over petty change homies don't act the same when you start from having thangs” “And it's true no more friends when you start falling”
