Soldierz At War - S.A.W. album review

Soldierz At War - S.A.W. is a Chi-Town jewel produced by members of the Nation of Islam and FOI  members (Fruits of Islam) in Chicago, Illinois. This album was not sold in stores but on neighborhood street corners. This album was sold along with the The Nation newspaper and those delicious baked bean pies which were home-cooked. The S.A.W. album was a success on the Chicago streets! It sold over 100,000 units alone in physical format back in 2000!

S.A.W. is a great conscious hip hop album with no profanity or obscene language considered to be offensive. Its lyrics are both politically and socially conscious Soldierz At War is more focused on this album than many of their other albums.

Big Ed from No Limit Records, Killah C, Newsense (the girl from Psycho Drama), and Mo Mike are the most featured artists on the album. Killah C and Mo Mike are featured all over the place on this Soldierz At War album.

The track Soldierz At War is a funky ghetto tech rap song that features Big Ed from No Limit Records. This track itself is the highlight track. Soldierz At War is about being focused both politically and socially conscious speaking. Its lyrics are very insightful.

Miss You Homie is a sad heartfelt rap song dedicated to the dead homies that passed on. The song itself has a blues feel to it.

As-Salaam-Alaikum (Peace be onto you.)

White G single review

Who is Kapitol G? KGP? Kapitol G is the Stephen King of acid rap. The roots of KGP can be traced back to this cassette. White G (KGP) began his career as a gangsta rapper in 1993 when he dropped he is first single "Neva Afraid" on Laraza Records. Laraza Records was an independent record label based in the local Saginaw, Michigan area in the 1990s. Timothy Houser and Darryl Turner were the brainchildren behind Laraza Records.

Laraza Records was only interested in gangsta rap at the time. The producers told KGP to do gangsta rap or nothing else. KGP was young and anxious to record and release music. So he agreed on these terms. He accepted the contract, but later regretted his decision. Laraza Records pretty much owned KGP as an artist.

However KGP wasn’t a gangsta rapper nor was he a gangsta. His fans knew that too from the jump. This led KGP he was unsatisfied with Laraza Records and decided to create his own record company called Mentality Records in 1994.

This single was not a huge success but was a minor success in the Saginaw rap scene in the early 90s. 256 copies of this cassette were sold. No CD single was ever put out. The cassette tape is out of print and considered a collectors item among Saginaw rap fans. Fans of acid rap will definitely enjoy this cassette.

Never Afraid is song about not being afraid of death. Which is why the song is given the title it has henceforth. The song itself very much death themed. White G is not afraid to stand up to what he believes in or conquer his own fears.

Middle Finga is where White G gives big “Fuck you!” to all the haters everywhere. White G also gives a middle to the devil.

Decimation – The Dark Embrace album review

Decimation – The Dark Embrace is a dark gory heavy metal album that released on cassette in 1991.  Though not one of Cleveland's best known bands, Decimation holds a place in Cleveland metal history as one of the town's first and true thrash bands!

Destitute is about being skewered by fate and being rendered helpless. The theme of helplessness relents here. The theme of isolation prevails here only to add to the element of loneliness.

Here is what the message for Deception Of Faith is about.:
"Controlled by the powerful, wealthy, those in authority and religious zealots, the oppressed make their way through life, naked, stripped of dignity, skewered by fate and helpless, down the winding path towards The Dark Embrace." “Raped in lust, consumed in greed.”

Poi Dog Pondering - Volo Volo (Promo Copy) album review

Volo Volo was released on Columbia Records in 1992. This album was done when Poi Dog Pondering was still in Austin and before they moved to Chicago in 1995.

Lackluster is an ironic song because of the way Poi Dog Pondering was supposed to make it big and didn't, but other than that it's an OK song. I can hear both the grand piano and Jazz piano in the background of the vocals. WXRT Chicago spun this all the time back in 1991.

The Hardest Thing is love, which proves to be the hardest topic on the song The Hardest Thing. It's about lovers dictating each other and dictating other peoples lives. Think about them arguing and fighting. Consumation as well. Love can be about getting to the truth behind all those lies.

Jack Ass Ginger is a funny song. A single and music video were produced for this song in 1992. The music video received moderate airplay on MTV.

Be The One is a skip. Be the One has an undeniably loud chorus similar to those sing-along choruses heard in children’s music.

Collarbone to me is more of a Jazz Rock song. Meaning that the song Collarbone is a crossover of Jazz and Rock. I can hear both the grand piano and Jazz piano in the background of the vocals. Get Me On is about getting to the truth.

Blood and Thunder is a heavy guitar ridden song where guitars compromise the ensemble. The song itself will remind you of stadium rock.

Tall and Building should have been one song together call Tall Building. I've Got My Body is a good song. Te Manu Pukara is fast playing banjo song which to me sounds like a Spanish Country song. Entrance should have been the first song as the intro. Endtrance is fine where it's at. Get Me On sounds like Latin Rock. Ta Bouche Est Tabou is another love song.

Here is how I think the tracks to Volo Volo could have been laid out… Entrance should have been the first song as the intro. Tall and Building should have been one song together call Tall Building. Be The One should have been omitted. Volo Volo should have a crossover album with Jazz and Rock being called Jazz Rock. I've Got My Body should have been about record companies owning peoples souls or a sexual track about intercourse.

I hate the way Poi Dog Pondering got screwed by Columbia Records. Poi Dog Pondering was supposed to make it big yet they didn't. The album Volo Volo was supposed to prove to be their big break, but I guess shit didn't pan out for whatever reason.

Now the promo copy on cassette that was black is nothing special. It has the exact same tracks as the retail edition sold in stores. So Save your money if you were expecting something special.

Earl Sisco - S.O.MMM Presents: No Bridges - EP (“No Bridges” The EP) EP review

Earl Sisco - S.O.MMM Presents: No Bridges - EP (“No Bridges” The EP) is a new digital EP from ex-Flinstoner Earl Sisco which was released online on April 20, 2018. This EP is available on iTunes, Apple Music, Google Play, Spotify, Amazon Unlimited, etc. The EP features production from Buff Billions, 1000, Sterlyn Reynolds, and more! The EP was mixed by Sterlyn Reynolds at Reynolds RAPP Studio in Nashville, Tennessee. Much of this music is considered to be modern R&B/Soul music.

Long 4 You was produced by Buff Billions and mixed by Sterlyn Reynolds at Reynolds RAPP Studio in Nashville, Tennessee. The song is played in formation of a single acoustic guitar and the mood is quite calming. The song itself has a short duration time of 2:49.

The song Long 4 You is about missing a person you loved along with the memories together regardless of reaction. Earl Sisco is reminiscing on all the good times that they’ve had. He is not sad. It’s not a clear 20/20 vision on the outside. He sees that. It’s hard to believe you’re gone. He deals with it by moving on. He can’t take back all the mean things he said in the past.

Boyz 2 Men was produced by 1000 and is the lead single for this EP. Its sound is uniquely futuristic. The song’s subject matter is in regards to progression of boys becoming men.

Keep Your Head up (The People Cafe Version) is a sad drooling downtempo piano song with lyrics. Keep Ya Head up is a cover of 2Pac - Keep Ya Head Up except this version is a piano cover. The song was dedicated to his sister Sha.

Alright (A Paean) is a song of praise and worship. For those who didn’t know a paean is a song of praise and triumph.

A majority of the songs included this EP are 2 minutes long on average. If you are looking for longevity in terms of duration, then this EP is not for you. The EP could have been much longer. The EP itself is filled with fresh new material.

Too Hard Too Hype ‎– It's Possible / I Have A Solution EP review

Too Hard Too Hype ‎– It's Possible / I Have A Solution is a hard to find EP on vinyl full of Chicano hip hop music from San Antonio, Texas. The old school hip hop sound is prevalent on this EP. The production has an extremely fresh sound from J I Productions/G Unique suited to your ears.

Too Hard Too Hype was one of the first Chicano hip hop/rap groups from San Antonio and Texas. In fact, Too Hard Too Hype was one of the first Chicano hip hop/rap groups period overall.

Let It Drop is a percussion heavy hip hop song with dope rhymes. The percussion was programmed electronically from a drum machine. Lyrics are rapped over a looped guitar sample that can be heard repeating over the song. Mixin’ Mando is responsible for the scratches.

I Have A Solution was a song about suicide, love and pain. That is why this midtempo song has a theme love and suicide. The song itself is a midtempo slow jam. The message of this song is that love hurts. However the song is not too graphic. Local record stores and music shops had to take it off the shelves cause there were too many suicides to this song.

What I Write is dope fresh rap song. Hardcore poetry, rhymes, and rhythms are what compose the song What I Write. San Antonio classic right here!

Al Jay - Running On Empty single review

Al Jay’s Running On Empty single is a uniquely interesting and humorous single with the song Running On Empty being the most humorous of the 4 songs included. All of these songs were included on his Smooth and Sensuous album. The single has a touch of blues rap included. The front cover has Al Jay standing out on a freeway in a rural setting by his car with his Star Tyme “Thumpolumpus” bass guitar.

The single itself was an indie project released as a cassette single from JAY TYME Productions in 1998. Al Jay produced half of the single by himself while Allan Hayes produced the other half.

Running On Empty (The Gasoline Mix) is a humourous blues rap song featuring Cazearei on his all new unleaded lead guitar while Al Jay plays his Star Tyme “Thumpolumpus” bass guitar. Blues meets a touch of rap on the song Running On Empty.

In fact, a humorous warning sticker was issued on the back of the cassette single for the song since it was such pure fire. Here is the exact description of what the warning said.:

WARNING: Do not play the Gasoline Mix around open flames, matches, or explosives, because it’s the bomb and it will explode.

Is It A Dream features rap from the street poet Lil Kaos outta Los Angeles, California. The song Is It A Dream contains a melody written by Latimore. Yes the Kenny Latimore. The song itself has a street rap sound that meets soul music.

I’m Through Crying (It’s Your Tyme Now) is an explicit heartbreaking love song filled with rejection. Yo Yo is featured on here.

Danny Boy - It’s About Time album review

Danny Boy - It’s About Time is one of those perfect albums for when you and/or your lover is a romantic mood. Danny Boy is known for his soulful romantic mood ballads as that is what he was primarily known for back in the 90s. The Jodeci styled production sound can be heard all over this album which is no surprise because DeVante Swing produced 3 songs on this album. The mood for this album is relaxing.

Death Row Records and Suge Knight really dropped the ball on promoting South Carolina artist Danny Boy properly. Better promotion was needed for this album to prosper. It was due to Suge Knight's crack addiction, sheer stupidity, changes in musical styles, and his piss poor marketing skills. The album was constantly pushed back and remained unreleased for 15 years until 2010 when WIDEAwake acquired the album rights from the Death Row Records company for a high bid from a 2008 auction when the company’s assets were being sold to various record companies such as Koch Records, Interscope, and E1.

If Death Row had released this album in 1998 when it would have gained more popularity and recognition,  then it wouldn't sound as old.We need his voice in R&B/Soul today because most R&B/Soul sucks today. The New Jack Swing era was long over at the time this album was released. Sadly the album did not meet up with the success of other Death Row albums during their heyday and popularity. Dr. Dre should have been a producer on this album.

The album features pre-recorded songs from the 1990s with contributed production from DJ Quik, DeVante Swing, and Dimitrius Shipp. Songs from this Danny Boy album were recorded from 1994-1999. Jodeci member DeVante Swing produced songs such as If U Don't Mind, It's All About You, and Just Ride. DJ Quik produced the Come When I Call (Remix) with George Archie.

It’s Over Now was a smooth R&B solo hit for Danny Boy back in the 90s. It instantly won him over many fans on an international scale across the globe. It was included on this album, the Gridlock’d soundtrack, and It’s Over Now. Babyface had also co-wrote this song.

The song is about a smooth man comforting a female. This is song is so comforting towards females whom had been done wrong in some many ways and a guy is there for them. He motivates them to move on from whatever the situation is at hand. Three words to describe this song are comforting, smoothing, and motivating.

Come When I Call is an original Danny Boy song with a Michael Henderson.  Come When I Call samples Michael Henderson - Let Me Love You. Come When I Call was used on the soundtrack for the 1994 movie Murder Was The Case.

Come When I Call is a perverted love song about a girl who has sex with all the guys. She is on a date and this guy is trying to get with her.

Slip N Slide is a syrupy slow jam accompanied by uptempo beats. Yet the song feels so midtempo. Slip N Slide is an original Danny Boy song.

Danny Boy - Advance album review

His Advance CD was a promo CD issued to promote his Danny Boy album that was supposed to be released in 1996. It was 1 of the 3 unreleased Danny Boy albums Death Row was going to release, but never did for many reasons.

He motivates them to move on from whatever the situation is at hand. Three words to describe this song are comforting, smoothing, and motivating.

Beautiful Lady was produced by Devante Swing of Jodeci. The song was beautifully arranged and sung. Danny Boy did a wonderful job singing with K-Ci. This song was a hit which won him over many fans on an international scale across the globe.

The song takes place in March of 1995. Danny Boy was high. A beautiful lady spoke to Danny Boy. She then turned and walked away. He hasn’t seen her since that day. Danny wonders where she went as he hope it’s near and not that far. Hey beautiful lady.

He thinks about her everyday. Your body and your face. Sex is not the only. He’s not all about just sex.

Come When I Call is an original Danny Boy song with a Michael Henderson.  Come When I Call samples Michael Henderson - Let Me Love You. Come When I Call was used on the soundtrack for the 1994 movie Murder Was The Case.

Some of the songs on this album appeared on the It’s About Time album from 2010. For instance Slip N Slide, Come When I Call, and It’s Over Now.
