This is Michael Mixerr. Today I will review The Maytals - Straight From The Yard (An Hour Live). This album was released in 1990 on cassette.
Their spiritual sound is rooted in Jamaican gospel and American gospel. The Mayatals are notable for their ‘straight from church’ style of singing in the Ska music scene. Roots reggae is one way to describe this album and The Maytals. The Mayatals had a small recognizable fanbase during the Ska era. The Mayatals have had a firm grasp on reggae since 1962. Many songs on Straight From The Yard (An Hour Live) are hot and ready to knock the audience off their feet. Most of this album is a live recording from the Sunsplash concert.
