The history of Saginaw Music started in 1974. Bands and groups were very popular at that time. Solo artists came later. Soul was the music.
The history of Saginaw Music started with Bill Wegner in 1974. Bill Wegner opened up his Records and Tapes Galore shop in 1974 in Saginaw, Michigan. Bill Wegner and Judy Wegner run the business. Records and Tapes Galore was the very first record shop in Saginaw to accept local artists on commission while others didn't. They still accept artists with open artist from all over the place. 1974 was the first year music became a way of life in Saginaw.
1979 was the year music was becoming more prevalent in the Saginaw Valley community. B.A.D. Was the first Saginaw band to gain national attention from record labels such as JC Sinban Records and Motown Records. n the 1980s, Soul bands such as B.A.D., S.O., and ILLStreet were becoming very active.
In the 1990s Hip Hop/Rap had a burgeoning scene in the underground with all the rappers with artists such as Bone Skanless, Daddy Madd (now known as Napalm), Dirty Jerk, Hasan Da Sinister, Dangerous D, Mack Tha Jacka, and Gee Pierce.
In the 2000s and 2010s, Hip Hip/Rap became even more prevalent in the Saginaw underground music scene with artists such as Astray, Agony, Young D, Skeem, Trigga Tre, Footy G, AG, Lady Assassin, Prozak, Madame Dane, Dangerous D, Napalm, Dirty Jerk, Bedlam, Mack Tha Jacka, and Skeem.
Rap-Rock artist Prozak has become a Saginaw film actor icon and music icon both locally and nationally ever since 2010.
To sum it all up Saginaw music has got local, national, and international attention from the news all over the world yet Saginaw music is so very much overlooked. The Saginaw music scene does not get the attention deserved even now.
