Mixerr Album Reviews #1,505

This is Michael Mixerr. Today I will review Avril Lavigne - B-Sides.

B-Sides was a promotional album released in 2001 by Nettwerk Management for Avril Lavigne's debut album Let Go. This album contains rare tracks, outtakes, leftovers, and demos from the recording sessions of Let Go. Many of these songs were released onto other singles. Most of these other songs remained unreleased though.

This album was released under Nettwerk after Arista sent her to of Nettwerk in the attempt to fit her image and attitude with her voice. In the end Avril didn't like the pop sound. So none of these songs were chosen to be included on the Let Go album.

There are things that Avril will never do and things she will never say on the song Things I’ll Never Say. This version of Things I’ll Never Say is a demo version with lyrics entirely different from the one on the Let Go album. The same amount and usage of acoustics are used. Things I’ll Never Say was produced by The Matrix.

This version of Things I’ll Never Say has a light pop vibe that is similar to Faith Hill. Some say the song was Faith Hill inspired. The demo of Things I’ll Never Say has a pop beat to it.

Headset is about why Avril is wanting to leave her small town and pursue big dreams. The limits of a small town frustrate her brain. Avril grew up in a small town called Napanee, Canada where no one ever leaves. She has her head set on California. She will send a big postcard just to piss you off. No matter what, she has her head set on California. She is headed for fame and stardom.

The song was produced by The Matrix while Cliff Magness co-produced the rest. The production staff at Nettwerk obviously were hands-on with this project.

The song Why written by Avril Lavigne and produced by Peter Zizzo. It was the bonus track included on t the Japanese edition of Let Go and the B-side of the Australian edition for the CD single of Complicated. It was also included in the bonus CD on the My World documentary DVD. This was one of the three songs that Avril sang for L.A. Reid before he hired her for Arista Records.

Why was the first professional composition that Avril Lavigne wrote and the first song written for Let Go, although in the end it was not included in the album originally. The song is played using a simple acoustic guitar and Avril's voice. Why is about when you realize how much you miss that person.

The song Make Up has a relaxed chill pop vibe to it. The song Make Up is about Avril not hiding who she is by not wearing any make-up or any other cosmetics. It also showcases the average day in life of Avril Lavigne.

During Verse 1 is where Avril is laying on the couch just hanging with her boys. They’re chillin’ at the house tonight. She is being herself and nobody else. That is what they do. Avril is not hiding who she is by not wearing any make-up. She is just being honest with herself once again.

At Verse 2, Avril is strumming her guitar with her shoes off whilst singing songs about her life. She is happy in her skin.

The version of Take Me Away is a much happier version than the version released on the Under My Skin album from 2004. The version on Under My Skin is a much more dark vivid version. This song is about being unconcerned with daily reality and having fun in life.

Get Over It was featured as the second track on the Sk8er Boi CD single. The song was available for free download in MP3 format for a limited amount of time. Get Over It is one of Avril Lavigne's B-sides from her debut album Let Go. It was also the bonus track for the tour edition of Let Go and was on the B-side of the CD single of Sk8er Boi.

Falling Down was recorded during the Let Go sessions. The song can be found on the Sweet Home Alabama soundtrack.

The song I Don’t Give is about overcoming a bad relationship and not allowing the boy to hurt you again. This version is the explicit version. The explicit version was included in the soundtrack of American Wedding. It was included as a bonus track on the CD of Let Go and you could listen if you put it on the computer. It was also included as B-side of the single CD Complicated.

I rate this album, B-Sides, 4/5****.
