Mixerr Album Reviews #1,707

Leeds, UK rock band The Dunwells released a breathtaking album called Light Up The Sky which was released in 2016 on the Austin record label Playing In Traffic. This album has even more powerful melodies than their last album Follow The Road. The elements of British pop and British rock are prevalent on this album. The band stays true to their British roots on this album of theirs.

However this time the band has gotten away from the Americana sound they had been labeled with. This was done by stripping back on the usage of acoustic guitars. Not only has this band evolved as songwriters, they’ve developed as artists as well. If you enjoy the sounds of Bon Iver and Damien Rice, then you will enjoy The Dunwells. Yet somehow this album flew under the music radar. Many fans slept on this album.

Light Up The Sky was produced by James Flannigan and Steve Harris. Mixing was done by Manny Marroquin. It was not just James Flannigan and Steve Harris who produced this album. The band worked on producing this album as well.

Lucky Ones was the first single to be released from this album. The song is a favorite among fans and the band especially during the bands last headline UK tour. Lucky Ones was their anthem for 2016.

The band does not want to forget what makes them important. They want to stay true to their roots. In the blink of an eye, The Dunwells will be lost from peoples minds due to how fast paced the music business is and because we live in the information age where news is accessible by our fingers. Fortunately the band is well aware of this fact of life.

The band explains how they are the lucky ones who have what they want in the chorus. They explain in lyrics how lucky they are. They hope people of the world will change their lives for the better. Also they want people to open their eyes. This song is about the desire for more. The chorus explains all this.:

[Chorus]
We are the lucky ones
We have just what we want
We see just what we can't
We are the lucky ones
We have just what we want
We see just what we can't
Hope hope you change your mind
Hope you change your life
Open your eyes to save some love for the lucky ones
Hope hope you change your mind
Hope you change your life
Open your eyes to save some love for the lucky ones

Communicate was written during the day of the 2016 Super Bowl which was a snowy day. The band had a day off. The band spent the whole day in a hotel writing this song. Communicate is a four part melody with heartfelt lyrics. Honesty of this song is heartfelt and legit.

The song is about two lovers who haven’t seen each other for a long time. They were always on the run. They had waited for this moment to just communicate. Both of them took this all for granted. Now there were good times. Both of them wonder if they should leave the good times behind. Should they leave the good times where they left off? The song ends with a resolution of one of them letting the other go, “I should let you go/you should let me know”

The song Hurts is about it hurts when you fall apart and how not learning from your mistakes can hurt other people including the ones around. The song deals with sadness and struggles with everyday life. Hurts shows a ray of hope at the very end.

Here you are on your knees. You can't get out the words that you wanna say. You said it once and twice. But you never take advice. You faults are our only mistakes. However you never learn from own your mistakes.Yeah it hurts sometimes when you fall. It hurts when you fall apart. (Sometimes.)

When you fade right there in front of me, it hurts sometimes. By doing that, you show no remorse hoping you'd prove me wrong. You still trying to heal still time for all you deserve.

It hurts sometimes, but everything will be alright. Don't ever think you can't come clean because one day I'll be the one in need when I'm hurt some time. This can happen to everyone. You’ll need to help someone else that is in need. We all hurt sometimes. We experience hurt in our lifetimes.

Best Is Yet to Come is a four part melody of happiness and hope. This song teaches us the best is to come when you least expected it.

We all have been scared of pain. I'm exactly the same. Listen up if you have enough stand up and seize the day. Take whatever happened to the old you and throw it away. It erodes you. I’m telling you it's time for something new. The best is yet to come. The best is to come when you least expected it.

Will You Wait for Me is an electro-infused soft pop song layered over instrumentals with a soothing choir acting as the background vocals. The choir performing the vocals are quite sultry in nature. The snaps make this song sound very much similar to a doo-wop song from the 1950s. Will You Wait for Me is a song of sadness and hope. However this song has more of a sad mood than having a mood of hope.

Will You Wait for Me is about a person who fixed another person’s house which was broken. That person fixed the house by rebuilding the walls. Sadly the person died and was taken away. The other person asks the person who died, “Will you wait for me?” Time stands still for no man. So keep moving on.

Verse explains the events of what happened.

[Verse 1]
This house was broken
You fixed it up rebuild the walls and gave it hope
And on that morning you were taken from me
The angels said they'd set free
Woah woah woah woah ohh ohh
Woah woah woah woah ohh ohh

Verse 3 is where signs of hope are vocalized and shown.

[Verse 3]
If you look down here then you will see
I'll make you proud make you proud of me
And on that morning when they set you free
The angels said that you'd wait for me
Woah woah woah woah ohh ohh ohh ohh
Said you'd wait for me
Woah woah woah woah ohh ohh ohh ohh
Said you'd wait for me
Woah woah woah woah ohh ohh ohh ohh

Sometimes it’s never too late to take comfort in the little things. That is what the song Never Too Late tells us. It's never too late.

I rate this album, 5/5*****!
