History of Cedar Creek Intermediate School in Austin, Texas explored and explained.

Cedar Creek Intermediate School is one of the many forgotten schools of Austin, Texas. The history of this school has not been well preserved by Eanes Independent School District (Eanes ISD) or has been saved in documentation.

Cedar Creek Intermediate School was established by Eanes Independent School District (Eanes ISD) in 1975 as a middle school located on 3301 Pinnacle Road in Austin, Texas. A single story stone building was built on 3.3011 acres of land. All of the land was already vacant and flat thus becoming an ideal location for a school building. Construction of Cedar Creek Intermediate School took approximately 3 years. The construction period lasted from 1975 to 1978. During that time is when additional acreage was purchased by Eanes ISD. A total of 5 acres was acquired.

Cedar Creek Intermediate School opened in 1978 and had served students enrolled in grades 5 through 8. Cedar Creek Intermediate School was a school which served as the second middle school of Eanes ISD before West Ridge Middle School existed. A majority of students walked to school or rode by bicycle. Bus transportation was available for those who needed it. Of course the school was within walking and biking distance as the Stoneridge neighborhood is located close by. Students from Austin, West Lake Hills, and Rollingwood attended this school.

By 1981, Eanes ISD board members referred to Cedar Creek Intermediate School as an “intermediate school” of sorts. The growth rate of the student population continued throughout the 1980s. The school would soon require expansion.

1986 was a year that brought forth important changes to the school. New programs were now being offered at this school along with building improvements. The school had expanded in 1986. It has been expanded twice since then. Cedar Creek Intermediate School provided English as Second Language instruction by 1986. The campus had instilled a full time Gifted and Talented program (GT program) for students who participated in independent study in advanced placement classes (AP).

Cedar Creek Intermediate School was and has been referred to as Clear Creek Intermediated School in the past. Maps dating back to the mid-1980s have Cedar Creek Intermediate School identified as “Clear Creek Intermediated School”.

In 1987, West Ridge Middle School opened. This led to the closure of Cedar Creek Intermediate School as this facility was no longer needed to educate middle school students. The year West Ridge Middle School opened is when Cedar Creek Intermediate School became Cedar Creek Elementary School. Cedar Creek Intermediate School had downgraded into an elementary school called Cedar Creek Elementary School. Cedar Creek Elementary School was planned to be a K-5 school as it is currently today.

Cedar Creek Intermediate School is now the present day Cedar Creek Elementary School. Today Cedar Creek Elementary School is one of six elementary schools in the Eanes Independent School District in Austin, Texas. Cedar Creek Elementary School currently serves as a K-5 school for students enrolled in grades Kindergarden through 5th grade. Cedar Creek Elementary School has been named as one of the Exemplary Schools out of the top rated schools in Texas. (Ref: https://hulafrog.com/austin-west-tx/cedar-creek-elementary-school-b/)
