Mixerr Album Reviews #1,855

Simken Heights - Smoke Box is a long forgotten classic Lansing rap album filled with horrorcore, gangsta rap,  and acid rap. The album has that early 90s sound you would expect to hear from a rap album that was released in 1992. Of course their album has some wicked shit! Overall Smoke Box is an excellent rap album. The rough brash gangsta rap sound (along with the horrorcore) gives this album an edge.

Far warning. 3 of the songs on this album/EP came from their first album, Ashtray Junkees, which was released in 1991. Those 3 songs are Blast Blast, Smoke Box (Smokebox), and Lead Rain. On the cassette version of Smoke Box, the A Side is the Loonie Side and the B Side is the Zombie Side. Smoke Box uses the same name scheme for both sides on the cassette version.

If you are a fan of Esham, Natas, Mastamind, Mars, Twisted Insane, Twiztid, or any horrorcore rap artist, then you enjoy Simken Heights. You can't really go wrong with Simken Heights as they are true horrorcore heroes of acid rap!

Simken Heights first made their way through the Midwest in 1991 with one of their most well-known songs Blast Blast. Simken Heights began building a loyal fanbase immediately with this song. The song appeared on their debut album from 1991 called Ashtray Junkees.

Simken Heights first made their way through the Midwest in 1991 with one of second most well-known songs Smoke Box (Smokebox). Simken Heights began building a loyal fanbase immediately with this song. The song appeared on their debut album from 1991 called Ashtray Junkees.

Overall Smoke Box is a great song to burn a blunt and get high to. Despite its calming title, the song has an upbeat sound and uses an upbeat tempo. Its uptempo sound is what stands out. The sound quality is not perfect and is very low budget. Vocals play more on the right speaker than on a balanced stereo setting. This song will bring back memories.

Lunatics in the Hall is a song where both the sounds of horrorcore and acid rap are utilized. The raw distinct vocal blend of Cap One’s voice blended in perfectly with the horrorcore vibe. So does the voice of Mass. Lunatics in the Hall takes you into the mindset of a serial killer. No filler material here.

Cap One raps the first verse.

Beechfield Drive in Lansing, Michigan is where Cap One dwells. He’s clocking Gs and making cash. Cap One sits on his smoke box and takes a blast. Paranoid like a fiend, he starts to hear voices in the background. He looks to see who's talking but there is no one around. His mind is playing tricks on him. He feels possessed and prays for homicide. So he grabs the pumps and the shells. Now it's time for drama!

Stalking victims in the night like Jeffrey Dahmer. You can't escape a killer. Three pills of Prozac is the main ingredient to detonate this maniac. His goes for his first victim using a pump shotgun. Somehow he misses. So he grabs a machete instead. He can't take it anymore. So Cap One tries another hit of the hydroponic smoke before making his next move.

Cap One is on a hunt like Michael Myers but this ain't Halloween. The next place Cap One goes to is Belmont Park Apartments on Reo Road. Belmont Park Apartments on Reo Road soon turns into a murder scene. He goes to apartment 306 and killed residents.

Then he glanced out the window and saw someone jump the fence. The person climbing the fence stumbles and falls. So Cap One takes the opportunity to chop this person up into pieces. Blood and guts are all over the street. Cap One is a cannibal. Some say he’s sick. And deranged in the halls was a crazy lunatic.

In the tunnel of confusion with evil in his eyes, hunting for his prey, the victim slowly dies. As the bodies start to fall, the lunatic lurks in the hall.

Mass raps the second verse and hook.

Unwilling to escape from the world that Mass is trapped in. A voice starts to speak in his mind. Unconsciously it tells him to go create a disaster. He crosses the Styx River and follow shadows in his sleep. Psychologically, he's lost it for good.

Isolation is building from the pressure inside him. He can't manage. Walking down the hall, looking for his prey. He put his hands around their neck and commences to doing the damage. There is no understanding this chaotic individual. Of course he likes to watch them scream.

Tied to this lunacy by bonds of fate. His head gets to spinning quick and now he's full of hatred. And the spirits keep on whispering, "tear them at the seams!"

While sneaking down the corridor his blood starts to boil. Now he begins to devour his next victim just stepping in the door. Then he buries them in the soil after he watches them gurgle up on their blood. He sits beside the body on the floor where it lay.

Cap One pleads insanity in the second verse. Cap One is not your everyday crook. He has a schizophrenic habit of cannibalism. Body parts is what he’s after.

Notice how he uses the suffix “-ing” in his rhyming scheme. The rhyming scheme Cap One uses is similar to the ABAB rhyming scheme.

Insanity's what I'm pleading
On the flesh that I'm eating
Evil grin on my face as the bodies start bleeding

A chainsaw is his murder weapon of choice. Cap One skins his victim like a hunter would a deer. From the front to the rear. He kept their heads for souvenirs. Blood is on his face.

As his brain starts to swell, he begins to see visions of Hell. Cap One feels as if he were trapped in the Village of the Damned.

Cap One did a drive-by on 58 innocent victims at random. Even people who he knew. His mother, his boss, his cat, his brother, and his kids. Now the damage is done. His mind is at peace. He proceeds to blow his brains out. The lunatic is now deceased.

War Horse follows up where Lunatics in the Hall left off. The song is a story of revenge.

Yeah! Once again it’s Simken Heights and Cap One. Grand Avenue and Simken Heights is where the group is from. These niggaz used to roll the streets on Cedar Street and Baker Street.

Mass is one shady ass character who has got the knack for serving out the punishment. It’s another bloody night in the Village of the Damned. Mass is a nigga who's a warhorse. And his brain is feeling heavy off that reefer that he smokes. Police have warrants on his ass and his license got suspended a long time ago for several violations.

But it's time to settle a beef. So it's time to go for broke.Time to sacrifice at another ceremony. Destruction on his mind. So he grabs his gun quickly.

He is prowling the night for revenge. However Mass is outnumbered five to one (5 on 1). The beef is uneven. This causes him to come up with a different plan. So he pulls up in his car a block away from where his enemies kick are located at. They are standing in the kitchen. He sneaks up to the side of the house, peeked into the windows, and with no hesitation, he cocks his ammunition unloading shells. Now it's time for the kill.Blood is about to spill.

The blood drips from the tables and the chairs. Oozing in the sink and down the kitchen stove. Looking to the sky for the very last time. Now he takes his last breath and his body turns cold.

Cap One jumps into his jeep. He grabs his gun plus a fifth of E & J. He is headed for Willow Vista. Time for some drama. Simken Heights ain't no joke. Niggas tripping off the hit of hydroponic smoke. Cap One kicked open the door and caught people in their sleep. He blasts out a full magnum round.

Six niggas dead with hollow points in that ass. One nigga got away out the window. So Cap One ran through the back looking for that nigga. At least that's what he thought.

He gets into the car and goes down the road. He made a left at Chestnut and drives toward Saginaw Street. That nigga would have got away but not tonight. Cap One is right behind the fool so he pulled out his heat. Put a slug in that ass on Saginaw Street. "Please, oh please, oh please don't shoot me anymore!" Cap One put the barrel into that nigga’s mouth like a dick. The last sound heard was his trigger going click.

Deteriation Piece is diss song aimed at rival neighborhoods in Lansing. Simken Heights had a handful of beef and rivalries in the 90s with certain neighborhoods. For instance there was time when Pinebrook Manor had beef with Simken Heights. The song Deteriation Piece is perfect example of gangsta rap.

Cap One raps on Verse 1.

The west side gots the drama. The west side of Lansing seems to have beef with Simken Heights. Cap One knows it’s time to settle the score. The neighborhood runners in the hood got things hot right now. Ain't no love for those that want to run up or jump up. They get their serve on in the spot that Cap One pumped up. He is taking no losses. Cap One handles his business with hollow points then bails out.

Then he moves onto Shepard Street with four deep in a jeep on a creep. 17 shots in the glock for the holdup. The rocks are floating in his smoke box. You best to clear his path as he loads up. And when the lead hit your body tell me do it burn as you lay on the concrete your body squirms. They called the paramedics. They arrive on the scene, try to give you anesthetics, And CPR. Paramedics are running out of time. As you take your last breath, your body is stiff and then you flatline. Now death takes control. Steppin' on his toes is a result of gun smoke.

What can I say? He loves blood and guts. And he won't hesitate to take a motherfucker's life.

Demonstrating complication hypnotized by the fire from the cannon. Taking the body in a devastating way. Burning in a storm that still will create. The holder of this will respond and destroy them. Now they lay deceased.

See him coming at him in a frenzy of powder. Reaching his target in a final situation. Silent on the hit. That's the method of the Beast. Now the body is ready for deteriation.

Running for cover and shelter is the best solution. Running to stay alive is what happens. Running for shelter to escape the heat. Running to believe only to be caught up in the possible. They stumble to the ground. Now they bleed and feel pain. Nobody stands tall after the incident. The aftermath is very indecent. Tearing in the cavity while blowing out the organs and sending the receiver to be judged by Christ. Coming at him at a speed that he can't imagine. And now he digs 7 holes for another sacrifice.

5-0 (police) is on Cap One’s trail by Verse 3. He tries to maintain and keep his head right. He takes a hit of Hennessey and then I commences to light twelve blunts of skunk.

He takes his victims, dips them into cement, and drops them in Lake Michigan. As they sink to the bottom they begin to lose oxygen.

Cap One’s going after his rivals holed up in the Pinebrook Manor Apartments on the Southwest Side of Lansing, Michigan. That is what the lyrics “Retaliate on they crew up in Pinebrook” are referring to. Pinebrook Manor and Simken Heights were rivals with each other. Infrared beam on that ass. Another life is took. Cap One gots the lead, the ammo, and the buckshots. Leaving dead bodies laying in the parking lot. Murder one. Cap One is not a killer not for hire.

His next plan is to torture some people through methods of electrocution. He ties his victims up in some water and live wire. Finally he proceeds to electrocute motherfuckers with many volts. Your best bet is call up the military to get some help because this shit is gettin' scary! You don't believe me? Take a look at this hostage.

I rate this album 4/5****!
