Red Carpet Motel is one of Oak Hill’s motels that have been long forgotten next to Western Hills Motel, No Tell Motel, Old Stumble Inn, and Heart of Texas Motel. Red Carpet Motel is one of the long forgotten motels of Austin, Texas as well too. Red Carpet Motel went under the names Red Carpet Hotel and Red Carpet Lounge.
Raymond Klingermann and Esther Atwell Klingermann opened Red Carpet Motel in a single story brown rectangular building across Old Bee Cave Road directly facing Jerry Dixon Automotive. Red Carpet Motel opened in 1971. Their phone number was 512-288-1611.
Red Carpet Motel was located next to Country Grocery and Market at the “Y” in Oak Hill. Both businesses shared the same address. Red Carpet Motel was also located next to the Flea Bitten Motel. Both of these motels were located in Oak Hill’s “red light district”. A lot of prostitution went behind these hotel walls.
However the Red Carpet Motel would not operate throughout the 1980s as the couple had planned. The date of June 26, 1981 marked the end of a "tradition" in Oak Hill as that is when the couple closed down Red Carpet Lounge. They were devastated to announce the news and make the decision. “After many years of serving as a meeting place, the Red Carpet lost the lease on its building and will soon be replaced by a washateria. Many long-time friends of the Carpet gathered to help put her to rest. Raymond Klingermann and Esther Atwell will remain in Oak Hill running the tire store and the service station.”
