Double Horn School started off under the names of Francis Chapel aka Frog Pond School with William H. Holland as its first teacher in 1855. The school was later renamed to Double Horn School. Double Horn School was located along the Colorado River. Double Horn School was moved near Grid Iron Creek and then to Double Horn Creek. Double Horn School had its own school district called Double Horn School Independent School District which was established in 1923. Double Horn School Independent School District operated until being consolidated into Spicewood Common School District in 1950. This school district was also known as Double Horn School Dist. No. 32. The Double Horn School was still shown on the 1932 Burnet County highway map, but all traces of the community were already gone by the second half of the 20th century.

Double Horn School was consolidated into Burnet Independent School District and Marble Falls Independent School District in 1950. Double Horn School was already being used as a community center in 1954. Birthday parties and celebrations were held here often. Double Horn School House was the longtime gathering place. Double Horn School was a abuilding that was once one of Burnet County’s country school houses, in the old days prior  to students attending schools in Marble Falls Independent School District and Burnet Independent School District. Double Horn School now serves as the home for Lacey Profitt and Nita Proffitt. Lacey Profitt and Nita Proffitt now own the Double Horn School.
