A dam for the former McKinney Mill called McKinney Mill Dam is still channeling water from Costley Spring into the Colorado River after years of being inactive as of 2021. The dam is still extant despite years of no renovation. There are several cracks in the bottom foundation and top layer. It includes the mill foundation and 2 dams. Mill walls have collapsed yet the dam is still intact.
The mill foundation next to McKinney Mill Dam right before the waterfall can be seen while staring into the water of Costley Spring. You can see where the mill walls have fallen into. The mill walls have collapsed into and behind the dam.
Terry Creek begins north alongside Highway 71 (SH 71) going westbound. From here, Terry Creek pours over the 30 foot McKinney Mill into a beautiful fern lined pool which leads to a grist mill and transcends into the Colorado River. The sluice channels water from Costley Spring and Terry Creek into the Colorado River.
The historic McKinney Mill Dam is now abandoned. Keller Family Investments are now the owners and investors for McKinney Mill Dam. Keller Family Investments continues to take full ownership and mineral rights of this land and mill. This investment group is responsible for maintaining and managing the land.
McKinney Mill Dam is located at 2903 Ellon Road, Del Valle, Texas, US 78617.
