History of a long forgotten trailer park in San Antonio, Texas visited. The former Green Tree Village Trailer Park.

Green Tree Village Trailer Park is a long forgotten trailer park which once existed in San Antonio, Texas from the mid 60’s to early 80’s. Not too many people knew or aware this trailer park even existed. This news article will explain why this trailer park vanished.

The Garrett Brothers developed a partnership which evolved into a trailer park which would become Green Tree Village Trailer Park at 4615 Walzem Road in 1964. Green Tree Village Trailer Park was first advertised in the San Antonio Express in 1964. Green Tree Village Trailer Park boasted a beautiful swimming pool and community club over an area of 25 acres and had space for 175 mobile homes. All the streets were paved. “It is in the extreme northeast section of the city. Garrett Bros, builders and developers announce formal opening of this beautiful Mobile Home Park this weekend and the public is invited to attend the showing of this new concept in mobile home living at 4615 Walzem Road. Greentree Village, which boasts a beautiful swimming pool and community club rambles over an area of twenty-five acres and will have space for 175 mobile homes. A shopping center will house a laundromat, drive-in grocery, beauty shop and service station. There is a large recreation and picnic area. All streets in Greentree Village are paved and each space has a private, individual driveway on a large tastefully landscaped lot. There is mail delivery to each site and all city utilities have been installed. A Garrett Bros. development, Greentree Village is situated in an area bounded by Austin Highway 81, Loop 410 and Walzem Road.”

“Exceptionally quiet in this hilltop locale, Greentree Village offers a panoramic view of the countryside and is swept almost constantly by cool southeast breezes. Landscaping and beautiful fencing, with stone colonades, make the front entranceway especially attractive. The entire area is lighted with gaslights.”

The phone numbers for Green Tree Village Trailer Park were OL 5-3331 and 512-655-3331. Bill Peterson was the first manager. Double G Inc owned the Green Tree Village Trailer Park. Charles E Garrett and Thomas Garrett owned and operated Double G Inc.


The San Antonio Express wrote about the new concept of mobile home living in an article titled New Village Built For Mobile Homes back in 1964. (Ref: https://www.newspapers.com/newspage/29701357/)

“Actually the address of this new concept in mobile home living is 4615 Walzem Rd off the Austin Hwy The new mobile home village brambles over 25 acres and includes a community club, drive in grocery, beauty shop, service station and even a picnic area. Greentree Village is located within an excellent residential area inside the city limits of the city of San Antonio. Despite its urban locale, Greentree Village enjoys a panoramic view of the countryside and is swept almost constantly by cool, breezes from the southeast.”




Green Tree Village Trailer Park was sold to Interchange Park Office in 1982. The rest of the land for Green Tree Village Trailer Park was sold in early 1983 to become office buildings for Interchange Park Office and Walzem Road. This led Green Tree Village Trailer Park to be shut down and ultimately vanish. (Ref: Bexar County Deeds, Volume 2741, Page 234)


Interchange Park Office later sold the property to an insurance company called State Farmers Insurance Company in November 1986. This insurance company would own and operate hereon this property for 5 straight years until 1991. (Ref: Bexar County Deeds, Volume 3889, Page 1889)

Interchange Park Office purchased the property back in 1991. However Interchange Park Office abruptly sold the property to Gill Savings Association in 1991 to become a federal credit union. (Ref: Bexar County Deeds, Volume 4996, Page 924)

Interchange Park Office purchased the property back in 1998 and still continues to own the property today. All other parts of this land have been auctioned off and sold to various conglomerates over the years. (Ref: Bexar County Deeds, Volume 7782, Page 112)

Green Tree Village Trailer Park was located at 4615 Walzem Road, San Antonio, Texas, US 78218.
