A look at the small St. John Vianney Church in San Antonio, Texas. An abandoned Catholic church.

St. John Vianney Church is and was one of the many Catholic churches scattered across San Antonio, Texas. Not much history is known about this Catholic church. This news article will explain and explore some of the history behind this church.

The property and building served as headquarters for Meadow Wood Acres Community Council Inc. and Meadow Wood Acres Water Supply Corporation for nearly 22 years from 1974 to 1996. (Ref: https://opencorporates.com/companies/us_tx/0027328901)

Meadow Wood Acres Community Council Inc. voluntarily deeded the land to Bexar County in 1996 on a warranty deed therein by and through its duly authorized officer. (Ref: Bexar County Deeds, Volume 6328, Page 2051)

Medina Valley Independent School District acquired this property and building in a sheriff’s sale under Tax Suit No. 95-TA2-0128; Medina Valley Independent School District vs. Meadow Wood Acres Community Council Inc., et al. in 1998. Medina Valley Independent School District gained full ownership of property rights by 1998. (Ref: Bexar County Deeds, Volume 7809, Pages 16-18)

Medina Valley Independent School District received $9,653.86 from the acquisition of the sheriff’s sale Tax Suit No. 95-TA2-0128. (Bexar County Deeds, Volume 7736, Page 1566)

However Medina Valley Independent School District conveyed this building and property to the Edwin C Meyer Trust on the date of December 16, 1998 on a special warranty deed and trustees deed. On May 8, 2000, the Edwin C Meyer Trust deeded the building and property to P F Flores, Archbishop of San Antonio, and his successors in office.  F Flores, Archbishop of San Antonio, would convert the building into a Catholic church called St. John Vianney Church aka St. John Vianney Catholic Church. The church operated here for several years. (Ref: Bexar County Deeds, Volume 8422, Page 794)

P F Flores, Archbishop of San Antonio, still owns this property and church building. Although, however, the church seems to be no longer used and has been abandoned for an extended period of time. The reasons as to why this church is abandoned remain unknown.
