The Herrera-Ripps Ranch one of the lesser known ranches of both San Antonio and Von Ormy. This article will explain a short summary about the Herrera-Ripps Ranch.
The Herrera-Ripps Ranch was established in 1810 by Blas Herrera, Adolf Herrera and his family. The ranch was originally 20 acres and later expanded to be 120 acres. In 1820, Adolf Herrera a part of his ranch to the Ripps family. Adolf Herrera and the Ripps family owned the ranch on a domestic limited partnership for many years. The land was used for grazing cattle, graining wheat, and growing corn. However the land was mainly used for grazing cattle and and growing corn. (Ref: Bexar County Deeds, Volume 1, Page 120)
Blas Herrera transferred ownership of the Herrera-Ripps Ranch to Adolf Herrera sometime around 1870. The exact date or year is unknown. Herrera-Ripps Ranch continued to operate throughout the 19th century.
Herrera-Ripps Ranch was still owned by Adolf Herrera and the Ripps family by the summer of 1900. Adolf Herrera continued their partnership through the 20th century. Herrera-Ripps Ranch was located in what was known then as Medina Crossing and Garza's Crossing on Somerset Road. Adolf Herrera transferred ownership of the Herrera-Ripps Ranch to Reed Ripps and the Ripps family some time around 1970. Today the Herrera-Ripps Ranch is owned by the Ripps family.
