In-depth short history of Lajitas Catholic Church explored and explained.

Lajitas Catholic Church is one of the many forgotten churches in the State of Texas. Only so much history is known about this church. This news article will dive into the in-depth history of Lajitas Catholic Church.

Lajitas Catholic Church first opened northwest-bound of the Mariposa mine by FM 170 in 1900. Lajitas Catholic Church was located in to the side of a school called Lajitas School. Mass was often celebrated at noon at Lajitas Catholic Church by the Reverend. Lajitas Catholic Church (Lajitas Mission) was built in 1901 by McGuirk. English and Spanish was taught at Lajitas Catholic Church from the beginning to end. Lectures were taught in Spanish also. Classes were held in the church.

The Lajitas Catholic Church was reconstructed in 1978. That is the year when stained glass was installed. A new door was installed, then shortly thereafter replaced with the stained glass and arched entrance. When the arches were added to the top of the facade the square door no longer looked appropriate. The wooden door had been replaced well prior to the reconstruction.
