A look at the abandoned Point Judith Fisherman's Club in Narragansett, Rhode Island. One of Rhode Island’s overlooked abandoned places.

This article will explain some of the details behind the abandoned Point Judith Fisherman's Club in Narragansett, Rhode Island. Camp Cronin is one of Rhode Island’s overlooked abandoned places which not many people are aware of or known about.

Point Judith Fisherman's Club was established as a fisherman’s club around 1899. The exact dates of when Point Judith Fisherman's Club was established and incorporated are unknown. In 2012, Hurricane Sandy caused extensive damage to the area surrounding Camp Cronin and washed out a portion of the access road that runs from Ocean Road to the jetty. The breakwater repair project was performed by the US Army Corps of Engineers in partnership with DEM, and included construction of a 70-foot wide, 480-foot long hybrid stone revetment to stabilize the shoreline and restore safe public access to the fishing area. The project also included repairs to the adjacent East Shore Arm Breakwater of the Point Judith Harbor of Refuge. The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (DEM), in partnership with the US Army Corps of Engineers held a special ceremony to mark completion of a restoration project at the Camp Cronin Fishing Area in Narragansett. However Point Judith Fisherman's Club was not harmed during Hurricane Sandy. (Ref: https://www.ri.gov/press/view/31815)

Cleanup around the Point Judith Fisherman's Club property was performed by volunteers on October 29, 2017 during the International Coastal Cleanup at Point Judith Fisherman's Memorial Beach in Narragansett, Rhode Island. (Ref: https://volunteer.savebay.org/need/detail/?need_id=452197)

Several cleanups around the property have been performed and executed. For example the most recent cleanup was on July 26, 2019, which was Point Judith Fisherman's Memorial/Camp Cronin - Narragansett Cleanup. Litter is ugly and dangerous to wildlife.
