History of White Pass and Yukon Route Hospital in Skagway, Alaska revealed.

White Pass and Yukon Route Hospital was established as a private general hospital with 15 beds and a maximum capacity of 25 in the year of 1897. Dr. W G Gable was superintendent. White Pass and Yukon Route Hospital first operated out of the Hawkins residence on 11th Avenue and Broadway Street. Dr. W G Gable served as superintendent of White Pass and Yukon Route Hospital during much of beginning of the late 19th century.

On September 9, 1899, patients in the White Pass and Yukon Route Hospital were moved operated out of the Hawkins residence on 11th Street and Broadway and into a new building. This was because the Hawkins residence was not entirely satisfactory with the surgeons. The patients were moved onto a special train. Dr. W G Gable served as superintendent of White Pass and Yukon Route Hospital during much of beginning of the early 20th century until being replaced by Dr. H. M. Berge.

An X-ray laboratory was established inside White Pass and Yukon Route Hospital in 1926. The first of its kind in the State of Alaska. Dr. H. M.
