Short history behind the Goliad Apartments in San Antonio, Texas. An apartment complex which fell victim to urban renewal.

The Goliad Apartments is one of the many forgotten apartment complexes of San Antonio, Texas that came and went. Only so much history regarding this apartment complex has been archived online and offline. This news article will explain the history of Goliad Apartments in a short detailed summary.

The Goliad Apartments were erected and constructed in 1951. The Goliad Apartments were erected and constructed entirely out of wood. Here the Goliad Apartments opened in 1951 with close to 20 single family units. The apartment units were small and cramped in terms of size. That is why there were kitchenettes. The tenants of Goliad Apartments were primarily Mexican-American (Hispanic).

A garage facing Arroyo Alley was located behind Goliad Apartments on Goliad Street. The rear of the Goliad Apartments were behind and next to a brick house. (Ref: https://digital.utsa.edu/digital/collection/p9020coll4/id/668)

However Goliad Apartments fell victim to urban renewal in 1968. The Goliad Apartments were demolished to make way for HemisFair in 1968. The demolition of Goliad Apartments was a result of the urban renewal program in the HemisFair area for Urban Renewal Project 5. All tenants were forced out or evicted prior to demolition. Many tenants were displaced afterwards. (Ref: https://digital.utsa.edu/digital/collection/p9020coll4/id/682)

The Goliad Apartments are now the site of HemisFair. No trace of this apartment complex remains today or can be unraveled.

The Goliad Apartments were located at 151 Goliad Street, San Antonio, Texas, US 78204.
